President Obama is mad. Spitting mad. One might even say irate. And it’s all because he hates finger pointing. Hates it with a passion he normally reserves for bankers, Wall Street moguls, doctors, the insurance industry, auto company executives, taxpayers, Christianisty, patriotism and, of course, capitalism in general.
CBS News has the details of the digit:
The president seemed genuinely angry today, on a beautiful spring afternoon in the Rose Garden. Having watched him on a daily basis for about a year and a half, I’m confident he wasn’t faking it.
He seems deeply upset about the growing calamity in the Gulf, about the environmental damage, about the irresponsibility of the companies involved, and about their efforts to shift the blame.
“I did not appreciate what I considered to be a ridiculous spectacle during the congressional hearings into this matter,” he intoned. “You had executives of BP and Transocean and Halliburton falling over each other to point the finger of blame at somebody else.”
Of course, President Obama has done a bit of finger pointing of his own. And we’re not even referring to his constant “blame Bush” refrain.
The thing is, President Obama’s finger pointing is usually done with his middle finger. The photo montage at the top of this story illustrates a few examples of the President’s digital dexterity. These thoughtful gestures typically occur when a political opponent is scoring points against his policies.
President Obama, we salute you.
