It will be a very cold winter without the West Virginia state rock.

It will be a very cold winter without the West Virginia state rock.

President Obama said he wants to bankrupt the coal industry. And coal is one of the great hobgoblins of the global warming fear mongers.

West Virginia Governor Joe Manchin, a Democrat, just poked a finger right square in all their eyes by naming bituminous coal the official state rock.

Coal is vitally important to the state’s economy and history. Only Wyoming produces more coal than West Virginia. Coal is a key source of energy to the South and East. And West Virginia gets more electricity from coal than any other state.

According to the West Virginia Gazette, “The resolution notes explorer John Peter Salley found coal near Racine in 1742 and named the Coal River as a result. George Washington observed a Mason County coal fire in 1770, and Conrad Cotts opened the state’s first commercial coal mine near Wheeling in 1810, according to the resolution.”

Henry Kissinger said, “A diamond is just a lump of coal that did well under pressure.”

Looks like West Virginia is doing very well under pressure.
