We haven’t heard how the concert turned out at last week’s Los Angeles fundraiser for Barbara Boxer and the DNC, but the pressure was clearly on India Arie to deliver one hell of a performance.
We have nothing against Ms. Arie nor her music. In fact, we like her combination of soul, hip hop, jazz and gospel. But how much does the girl have to ramp it up to justify the $35,000 price tag that Dems put on her appearance with the Greatest President In History?
C’mon, man, no one in their right mind would pay $35,000 to hear Barack Obama speak when you can hear him speak and speak and speak for free every single friggin’ day. In fact, we know people who might pay that much to shut him up, so the performance aspect of the night obviously rested squarely on Arie’s shoulders.
Of course, the real beneficiaries of this fun-filled evening were Barbara Boxer and the Democratic Party in California.
You might think that getting the Beatles back together (as hard as that might prove to be) would not be enough to save Boxer. But remember that this is California where NPR says “…unlike in other parts of the country, both Obama and Boxer could benefit from passage of the health care law. A Los Angeles Times/University of Southern California poll this month said California voters have a generally positive view of the health care bill. Forty-six percent said they would be more likely to vote for a lawmaker who supported the bill compared with 29 percent who said they would not be.”
We’ve heard of the earthquake that is supposed to separate California from the rest of the country. But it didn’t take anything nearly that drastic to separate the state from reality.
