Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain says he does not like to be called African-American.
We love Herman Cain. Unfortunately, there’s something gnawing at our gut telling us that he’ll say something to self-destruct even before the media has a chance to destroy him, but we love him nonetheless.
Bloomberg reports that the Republican presidential candidate does not like to be called African-American:
This is an American, not an African-American
“I am an American. Black. Conservative,” he said, punctuating each aspect of his self-identity. “I don’t use African-American, because I’m American, I’m black and I’m conservative. I don’t like people trying to label me. African- American is socially acceptable for some people, but I am not some people.”
What is it about the word “African” that the candidate doesn’t particularly appreciate?
“Most of the ancestors that I can trace were born here in the United States of America,” he said, hitting those last four words with a hammer. “And then it goes back to slavery. And I’m sure my ancestors go all the way back to Africa, but I feel more of an affinity for America than I do for Africa. I’m a black man in America.”
Far as we’re concerned, Cain is just getting this out of the way before the liberal media begins announcing that he’s not an authentic African-American because he doesn’t support all the typical liberal causes.
What could Herman Cain possibly know about being black? As we’ve learn in the last few years, you can’t be an authentic African-American unless you’re half white and were raised in Indonesia.
DOJ officials pressured the Dayton Police and Fire Departments to lower testing standards because not enough African-American candidates passed the written exam.
Looks like Eric Holder’s Justice Department has another racial fiasco on its hands. The Obama administration has decided that competence and qualifications are far less important to a fire department than racial quotas.
Please allow us to restate the problem: Competence and qualifications mean nothing. Race means everything.
When your house is on fire, don't you hope the fireman who shows up got an 'A' on his test?
Big Government has the smokin’ hot story:
Judicial Watch uncovered hundreds of documents from the City of Dayton, Ohio, showing that Department of Justice (DOJ) officials pressured the Dayton Police and Fire Departments to lower testing standards because not enough African-American candidates passed the written exam.
In a rational world, the candidates who didn’t pass would be told to study hard and try again next year. But this isn’t a rational world, it’s an Obamanation:
According to a report by Dayton’s ABC News affiliate on March 11, 2011, the ultimate compromise struck between the City of Dayton and the DOJ resulted in a lowering of test standards for Police Department candidates:
The Dayton Police Department is lowering its testing standards for recruits. It’s a move required by the U.S. Department of Justice after it says not enough African-Americans passed the exam. Dayton is in desperate need of officers to replace dozens of retirees. The hiring process was postponed for months because the D.O.J. rejected the original scores provided by the Dayton Civil Service Board, which administers the test.
Under the previous requirements, candidates had to get a 66% on part one of the exam and a 72% on part two. The D.O.J. approved new scoring policy only requires potential police officers to get a 58% and a 63%. That’s the equivalent of an ‘F’ and a ‘D’.
The equivalent of an ‘F’ and a ‘D’. In other words, the first and last letters of the world F-R-A-U-D.
We heartily disagree with former Vice President John Nance Garner. Joe Biden’s definitely worth that warm bucket of you-know-what.
Former Vice President John Nance Garner once dismissed the vice presidency as “not being worth a bucket of warm piss.”
We can’t help wondering if the man had a little Nostradamus in him and was having a psychic vision of the current bucket when he made that comment:
Joe Biden testing the only weapons we'll soon be able to afford
The vice president and second lady hosted a party for journalists at their Naval Observatory residence Saturday and weren’t shy about squirting their guests.
Jill Biden toted a very large Super Soaker and wore a disguise: a black wig, camouflage pants with a matching hat and a gray U.S. Army T-shirt with the sleeves rolled up.
The veep sported his aviators and went after reporters with his loaded Water Warriors Titan water gun.
Sounds like Sheriff Joe was indulging in a little fantasy, pretending to be Barack Obama leading a Navy Seals mission.
But we don’t begrudge the veep a little down time. After all, he works hard. He’s head of the Middle Class Task Force (remember that?), a top advisor on foreign policy (he’s really paid off in that department), overseer of stimulus spending (he’s the one who did the actual flushing) and premier advocate of high-speed rail (sitting on trains is something he’s REALLY good at.) And the sheriff just got a new gig: President Obama put him in charge of a new project with the lofty goal of increasing accountability and cutting waste (we can suggest a place to start.)
We heartily disagree with Garner. Joe’s definitely worth that warm bucket of you-know-what.
Debbie Wasserman-Schultz informs America’s unwashed and unlearned that they are also uninformed if they think we’re anywhere near a double dip recession.
Debbie Wasserman-Schultz, esteemed Florida congressperson and Chair of the DNC, put in a true tour de force Sunday on NBC’s Meet the Press. Getting two stupid clips from one program is rare, indeed, but DW-S is no typical politician.
In the first clip, she informs America’s unwashed and unlearned that they are also uninformed if they think we’re anywhere near a double dip recession. Hell, no. Barack Obama has turned this economy around, damn it.
In the second clip Meet the Press Host David Gregory asks Wasserman-Schultz why she initially sprang to Anthony Weiner’s defense by saying his dork-a-thon was strictly a “personal matter” even after Weiner’s ludicrous “stolen identity” claims.
Damn, it’s fun watching her squirm. Her tenure at the DNC is going to provide us with damn near infinite fodder.
Remembering a jazz concert and receiving a basketball before the age of two is nothing for a man of Barack Obama’s talents.
Barack Obama reveals to People magazine that he has a remarkable memory. A really remarkable memory. While talking to the puff piece publisher about parenting, the President told how his relationship with his birth father influenced his relationship with his daughters.
Mr Obama said he regretted not being present because of his own experiences in his troubled childhood.
‘I grew up without a father around I have certain memories of him taking me to my first jazz concert and giving me my first basketball as a Christmas present. But he left when I was two years old,’ he wrote.
A normal person might think that remembering a jazz concert and receiving a basketball before the age of two is a remarkable accomplishment. But it’s nothing for a man of Barack Obama’s talents. After all, he already told us that he remembers his own birth.
He also seems to have memorized Karl Marx’ Das Kapital and Saul Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals verbatim.
But even this remarkable man’s memory isn’t perfect. No matter how hard he tries, he seems to have a little trouble remembering the United States Constitution.
“Enjoy the Ride” is a commercial produced by the Western Australia Office of Road Safety. They abandoned the typical threatening and frightening approaches and tried to show drivers that there’s a better way to look at driving and life.
“Enjoy the Ride” is a commercial produced by the Western Australia Office of Road Safety.
They abandoned the typical threatening and frightening approaches and tried to show drivers that there’s a better way to look at driving and life.
Don’t get us wrong. We’re pretty sure everyone completely ignored this commercial and continued driving like maniacs, but we still like the way they turned the problem upside down and inside out and came at it from a whole new direction.
A woman was thrown out of a theater for sending text messages, she called the theater and left an angry voicemail, and now the theater has used the voicemail in their own ad.
The Alamo Drafthouse is a small, quirky theater chain down in the Lone Star State. It has a strict policy against texting during movies. The rule is simple: Text during a movie and we’ll boot your butt out the door.
This is where the story starts to get funny. Really funny. ABC news the #@$%! details:
About a month ago, Tim League [Alamo House owner] says, a woman was thrown out of one of the chain’s 10 theaters for sending text messages — and retaliated by leaving an angry voice mail on the box office phone line. League said he thought it was so over-the-top that it was funny. They used it as the public service announcement they play before films to encourage people to keep quiet.
“The reaction has been huge,” League said in a telephone interview with ABC News. “People love it in the theater.”
Now if you could just buy a popcorn and a Coke without having to mortgage your house, life would be perfect.
NOTE: In the interest of full disclosure, we must point out that the Administrator has been banned from most of the theaters in our town after an unfortunate incident in which he jumped three rows in a theater to silence another patron who wouldn’t shut up during a movie.
Here’s the Alamo Drafthouse’s public service announcement:
No one would be able to get to Chicago quicker than now. Only in America does anyone call a train that averages 45 miles per hour “high speed rail.”
What’s bigger than a breadbox and slower than a bus? Hint: Joe Biden fantasizes about it. Give up? New Geography solves the riddle:
The state of Iowa is being asked to provide funds to match federal funding for a so-called “high speed rail” line from Chicago to Iowa City.
High speed rail: Pissing away your tax dollars faster than any competitive system
Luxury intercity bus service is [already] provided between Iowa City and Chicago twice daily. The luxury buses are equipped with plugs for laptop computers and with free wireless high-speed internet service. Perhaps most surprisingly, the luxury buses make the trip faster than the so-called high speed rail line, at 3:50 hours. The trains would take more than an hour longer (5:00 hours). No one would be able to get to Chicago quicker than now. Only in America does anyone call a train that averages 45 miles per hour “high speed rail.”
For the sake of accuracy, that last line should read “Only in the Obama Administration…” as we don’t recall that idiot Bush proposing anything this “visionary.” Nor this hallucinatory.
By the way, fares are simply un-fair:
The state would be required to … [make] up the substantial difference between costs and passenger fares. This is despite a fare much higher than the bus fare, likely to be at least $50 (based upon current fares for similar distances). By contrast, the luxury bus service charges a fare of $18.00…
The plan will be workable once Obama decides the Commerce Clause empowers him to outlaw buses.
In the 1940s, F.A. Hayek wrote about “The Road to Serfdom”; now we have hi-speed rail to get there. Progressives are all about progress.
Even Democrat Senator Al Franken (Ugh. Just typing those words still makes our skin crawl) occasionally stumbles on an unavoidable truth.
Even Democrat Senator Al Franken (Ugh. Just typing those words still makes our skin crawl) occasionally stumbles on an unavoidable truth.
Fox News reveals Franken’s revelation:
Things might not be looking so good for President Obama in 2012, according to one of Washington’s most liberal lawmakers. Senator Al Franken D-Minn., forecast a potentially gloomy outcome for his party’s first-term president during a hearing about FBI director Robert Mueller, and the former comedian wasn’t kidding.
“I should note, President Obama could nominate a new director that would be there for ten years,” Franken explained. “In two years, he may not be the President. So I think that bears just a mention.”
While you’re at it, Al, it also bears a mention that you might not be a senator in four years.
But don’t give it another thought. We wouldn’t want too much reality to intrude on your socialist fantasies.
Last week the elder statesman of disgraced Congressmen offered Weiner some advice: Shut up. This week he comes to his defense in a tortured sort of way.
Unlike rational members of Congress, Charlie Rangel seems intent on injecting himself into the Anthony Weiner story. Last week the elder statesman of disgraced Congressmen offered Weiner some advice: Shut up. This week he comes to his defense in a tortured sort of way.
Democrat corruption comes in a variety of styles and colors
The Associated Press offers up Rangel’s latest idiocy:
U.S. Rep. Charles Rangel told reporters Friday that he still believes Weiner can be an effective lawmaker, “if the press gets off his back.”
He suggested that other members of Congress had done things more immoral than Weiner, who admitted this week to sending racy messages and explicit photographs of himself to women he didn’t know.
Rangel says Weiner, “wasn’t going with prostitutes. He wasn’t going out with little boys.”
Thanks to Congressman Rangel, we now know what sort of behavior the Democrats consider unacceptable. At least until the first Democrat in Congress is caught with a prostitute or a little boy.
He’s insane. What else would make a member of Congress think it was a good idea to take photos of himself while naked and holding his house member in the House Members’ gym?
He’s insane. What else would make a member of Congress think it was a good idea to take photos of himself while naked and holding his house member in the House Members’ gym?
Time for Weiner to stop hanging out in Washington.
This is just one of a dozen or so photos Weiner took of himself in the House gym. You can see the others – if you’re so inclined – at the TMZ link below.
National Institutes of Health (NIH), has spent $3,634,807 getting monkeys to smoke and drink drugs such as PCP, methamphetamine (METH), heroin, and cocaine.
Pardon us. We’re a bit embarrassed. We saw that headline and immediately assumed it had something to do with Florida Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman-Schultz. But, no, we were wrong.
Much to our surprise, the story about the dope smoking, menstruating monkeys had nothing to do with Debbie Wasserman-Schultz
CNS News has the latest installment of “Let’s Piss Away Your Money On The Stupidest Crap Imaginable”:
The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), a division of the federal government’s National Institutes of Health (NIH), has spent $3,634,807 over the past decade funding research that involves getting monkeys to smoke and drink drugs such as PCP, methamphetamine (METH), heroin, and cocaine and then studying their behavior, including during different phases of the female monkeys’ menstrual cycles.
The study also uses “interventions” as “treatment models” for monkeys who have been taught to use drugs.
Precursor research on drug-using monkeys, also funded by NIDA, discovered that after smoking cocaine monkeys exhibited “dilated pupils and slightly agitated, hyperactive behavior”—which helped researchers conclude that the “physiological effects” of cocaine on monkeys “were similar to those reported in studies of human subjects.”
Monkeys and members of Congress are reportedly lining up to volunteer for the next phase of the experiment.
Dick Durbin, the number two Democrat in the Senate, appeared on MSNBC and spoke that which has so far been unspeakable for Democrats.
With friends like this, who needs enemies?
Dick Durbin, the number two Democrat in the Senate, appeared on MSNBC and spoke that which has so far been unspeakable for Democrats. He admitted that this is now Barack Obama’s economy and the voters will rightfully hold him accountable for it.
Spoken like a man who doesn’t face reelection until 2014 and won’t have to worry about getting swept away in the coming 2012 landslide.
That gives him two years to make a comeback. And with the Republicans propensity to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, Durbin’s probably pretty safe.
Here is the dumbest comment of the week about Anthony Weiner and Weinergate.
A lot of stupid things – no, a lot of really stupid things – have been said about Anthony Weiner and Weinergate in the last week, but we think we’ve run across what may be the dumbest comment of them all.
It’s brought to you courtesy of the nimrods at CNN:
Pointing fingers of blame everywhere except where they belong
Sen. Mark Pryor of Arkansas and Reps. Allyson Schwartz of Pennsylvania, Michael Michaud of Maine, Mike Ross of Arkansas and Niki Tsongas of Massachusetts joined a growing chorus of Democratic voices that have called for Weiner, D-New York, to step down over sexually tinged online communications with several women that he then lied about.
A Democratic legislator familiar with discussions with and about Weiner told CNN that Weiner’s colleagues are telling him he should resign “to preserve his own dignity.”
“To preserve his own dignity”? Hah! That’s like saying Weiner’s porn star should resign to preserve her virginity.
This guy had no dignity before Weinergate and he certainly has none now.
Ali Bongo is the corrupt dictator of Gabon and, apparently, someone who finds the welcome mat out when he drops in at the White House.
Ali Bongo sounds like some kind of intestinal disorder: “Oh, my god. I came down with a bad case of Ali Bongo last night and I thought I was going to die.”
But it is, in reality, a man’s name. A very bad man. He’s the corrupt dictator of Gabon and, apparently, someone who finds the welcome mat out when he drops in at the White House.
Gabon "President" Ali Bongo looks exactly like Eddie Murphy's version of a corrupt African dictator in "Coming to America"
Naturally, we have to depend on the Daily Mail UK to report the story the American media has chosen to ignore:
The U.S. President will today have a coveted private meeting with President Ali Bongo of Gabon in the Oval Office despite his appalling track record.
Bongo’s family has ruled the impoverished African nation with an iron fist for five decades and have used its oil riches to fund a life of outrageous luxury.
Meanwhile one third of people in Gabon live on less than $2 a day and thousands starve to death each year or are forced to pick through garbage to find food.
Critics have pointed out that Gabon, with a population of 1.5 million, is the third-largest oil producer in sub-Saharan Africa.
They claim that the only reason Mr Obama has agreed to the meeting is that he wants to curry favour with an ally to secure America’s fuel supplies – regardless of who it is.
Yeah, that’s one way to go about it. Another way might be to allow American oil companies to drill domestically and to stop throwing roadblocks up in front of American coal miners.
But that’s just crazy talk. What were we thinking? Much easier to kiss the ass of a corrupt, third world, tin horn dictator.
t’s telling – very telling – that Weiner is more afraid of Hillary Clinton than he is of the President. Unfortunately, that’s not unusual…
Democrats are shunning Anthony Weiner. He’s become a laughing stock. Even his internet paramours have turned on him. But if you think it couldn’t get any worse for the New York Democrat, think again.
The Huffington Post tells the terrifying tale:
Hillary Clinton advises the unfortunately-named Huma Weiner
Rep. Anthony Weiner has lost nearly all support in Congress, sources told The Huffington Post, but the embattled New York Democrat has an even tougher audience yet to face: He has to explain himself to Hillary Clinton, the formidable secretary of state he has come to regard as his honorary mother-in-law, people who know the Clintons and Weiner said.
“It scares me, and I’m nowhere near Weiner,” said one Clinton-world insider. “I get nervous even thinking about it.”
Weiner’s elegant — and reportedly pregnant — wife, Huma Abedin, is beloved by the former first lady, who has kept Abedin as an aide for 15 years. Hillary Clinton even described her as a second daughter when Weiner and Abedin married last July.
In order to zig just when you thought we were going to zag, here’s our take on this story:
It’s telling – very telling – that Weiner is more afraid of Hillary Clinton than he is of the President. Unfortunately, that’s not unusual, because it appears that no one is afraid of Barack Obama. Especially our enemies.
No fear, no respect. The United States of America, 2011.
What the hell. If President Obama can take credit for the Navy SEAL success, we’ll take credit for Sarah Palin’s line on Sunday’s Fox News Sunday.
What the hell. If President Obama can take credit for the Navy SEAL success, we’ll take credit for Sarah Palin’s line on Fox News Sunday.
Yeah, we said this line. It was ours. It was a gutsy call on our part.
Here’s Sarah Palin on FOX News Sunday using our line about Barack Obama running for reelection:
The point is this administration has got to be honest and candid with the American public. The bottom line is their plans for bigger government, more federal control over our private sector, more regulations, and more burdensome mandates on our businesses and on our people, it’s not working. And we do need to shift gears and change course. It’s very noble of President Obama to want to stay at the helm and maybe go down with the sinking ship but I prefer and many Americans prefer that we start plugging the hole that we start powering up the bilge pump and start getting rid of some of the unsustainable debt that is sinking our ship. We don’t have to go the way of the Titanic.
We also wrote the Gettysburg Address, the Beatles’ song Yesterday, and the play Death of A Salesman. But Barack Obama helped us with the last one.
Obama just offered to borrow communist money we’re unable to repay to give to socialists who are unwilling to repay it.
While the media has busied itself with a Weiner roast, President Obama has quietly been focusing laser-like on the debt crisis. Not ours, the one in Greece.
While not one of the 57 states Obama needs for re-election in 2012, Greece is a “headwind” making his failing economic policies fail.
First official photo of the next generation trying to dig themselves out of the hole we dug for them
CNBC has the story:
President Barack Obama on Tuesday urged European countries and bondholders to prevent a “disastrous” default by Greece and pledged U.S. support to help tackle the country’s debt crisis.
Mr. Obama was quoted, “… we have pledged to cooperate fully in working through these issues, both on a bilateral basis but also through international and financial institutions like the IMF.”
Too many nuances there for our taste. Daniel J. Mitchell translates:
The story doesn’t have much detail, but it appears that Obama is willing to brutalize American taxpayers directly (which is what he means by “on a bilateral basis”) and indirectly (i.e., the reference to “international and financial institutions like the IMF”).
Brutalized by the IMF and we’re not even hotel maids. The 48% of us who pay taxes are used to that by now. And the money’s going for a good cause, right?
Another bailout will be a case of throwing good money after bad. And it will exacerbate the.economic damage by delaying the economic reforms that are needed to put Greece’s economy in better shape.
… the other insolvent European welfare states will look at what’s happening in Greece and conclude that they also can avoid necessary reforms and wait for handouts from American and German taxpayers.
“Ooooh, I have an idea,” Behar says excitedly. “How about if I blurt out something crazy about that photo Breitbart has of Anthony Weiner’s weiner.
We picture a pre-production meeting at The View. Barbara Walters gathers her co-hosts around a conference room table in her spacious office and says, “OK, Whoopi made the stupid comment yesterday, so I believe it’s Joy’s turn today.”
“Ooooh, I have an idea,” Behar says excitedly. “How about if I blurt out something crazy about that photo Breitbart has of Anthony Weiner’s weiner. Like maybe, ‘How do we know that’s not Breitbart’s weiner?’”
“That’s so crazy it might just work,” Walters replies.
Not to be outdone, Whoopi jumps in to kiss Walter’s ass. “And then, Barbara, maybe you can jump in and say how attractive Weiner’s weiner is in the photo.”
“Outstanding idea, Whoopi. That’s why I pay you millions of dollars a year to sit on this pathetic panel.”
We’re not sure if that’s how the pre-production meeting went, but that’s how it went on the air.
Columnist Richard Glover says it’s time for climate-change deniers to have their opinions forcibly tattooed on their bodies.
For some time now it has been the standard operating procedure for some on the left to equate “climate-change deniers” to Holocaust deniers. We’re not sure whose clever idea this was. We are sure that it really wasn’t all that clever.
As is often the case with the progressives this rhetoric could only exist for so long before it was no longer progressive enough. Now, it seems, there is at least one guy willing to ditch the talk of Holocaust deniers and fantasize about incorporating the tactics of the very guys that brought that particular horror about.
Global warming Nazis are on the march
Australian Broadcaster and Sydney Morning Herald columnist Richard Glover explains:
Surely it’s time for climate-change deniers to have their opinions forcibly tattooed on their bodies. Not necessarily on the forehead; I’m a reasonable man. Just something along their arm or across their chest so their grandchildren could say, ”Really? You were one of the ones who tried to stop the world doing something? And why exactly was that, granddad?”
On second thoughts, maybe the tattooing along the arm is a bit Nazi-creepy. So how about they are forced to buy property on low-lying islands, the sort of property that will become worthless with a few more centimetres of ocean rise, so they are bankrupted by their own bloody-mindedness? Or what about their signed agreement to stand, in the year 2040, lashed to a pole at a certain point in the shallows off Manly? If they are right and the world is cooling – ”climate change stopped in the year 1998” is one of their more boneheaded beliefs – their mouths will be above water. If not …
L.A. County is now demanding that Alan Fahey tear down his “unusual” home or face up to seven years in jail.
Alan Fahey started building his home 20,000 square foot home thirty years ago in Acton, California, a ramshackle community that sits on the sandy fringe of Los Angeles County. He calls it “Phonehenge” because it’s built atop pilings made of telephone poles.
Unfortunately, the county is now demanding that Fahey tear down the home or face up to seven years in jail.
Welcome to Phonehenge, located in lovely Acton, California
Yahoo News has the story:
A jury began hearing the county’s case against Fahey last week: He is charged with 14 criminal misdemeanor counts, including unlawful use of land. L.A. County deputy District Attorney David Campbell told the paper that Fahey repeatedly ignored city officials’ warnings that he was violating multiple municipal building safety and fire codes and thinks he is above the law.
“He has set up his own arrogant interpretation of the law,” Campbell told the paper.
Fahey’s lawyer Jerry Lennon says county officials were negligent in enforcing their own rules, leaving his client alone for two decades before deciding to crack down.
“This is an exceptional place,” an L.A.-area advocate for code reform, David Lewis, told the L.A. Times. “Most of the properties that are involved in code enforcement actions are not visually striking. It’s something the public can look at. It’s something special that shouldn’t be demolished.”
The Watts Towers, piles of junk that have been designated as a National Historical Landmark.
On the other hand, the city of Los Angeles honors an equally unpermitted and inelegant series of structures known as the Watts Towers. Here’s how Wikipedia describes them:
The Watts Towers … is a collection of 17 interconnected structures, two of which reach heights of over 99 feet (30 m). The Towers were built by Italian immigrant construction worker Sabato (“Sam” or “Simon”) Rodia in his spare time over a period of 33 years, from 1921 to 1954. The work is an example of non-traditional vernacular architecture and American Naïve art…
The sculptures’ armatures are constructed from steel pipes and rods, wrapped with wire mesh and coated with mortar. The main supports are embedded with pieces of porcelain, tile, and glass. They are decorated with found objects, including bed frames, bottles, ceramic tiles, scrap metal and sea shells. Rodia called the towers Nuestro Pueblo (which means “our town” in Spanish). He built them with no special equipment or predetermined design, working alone with hand tools and window-washer’s equipment. Neighborhood children brought pieces of broken glass and pottery to Rodia, some of which were added, but the majority of his material consisted of damaged pieces from the Malibu Pottery or CALCO (California Clay Products Company), located nearby. Green glass includes recognizable soft drink bottles from the 1930s through 1950s, some still bearing the former logos of 7 Up, Squirt, Bubble Up, and Canada Dry; blue glass appears to be from milk of magnesia bottles.
In other words, the Watts Towers are giant piles of junk, yet they were declared a National Historical Landmark in 1990. Perhaps Los Angeles County should follow the example of Los Angeles City and, instead of prosecuting Fahey, support a similar designation for Phonehenge.
As our reader Kimmy Queen said, “You decide: Should the government enforce safety measures or is the government out of control because it chooses to enforce NOW after 20 or 30 years of doing nothing? Hands up if you believe that they will throw the tax code book at him if he turns it in a museum and asks for donations.”
Now Barack Obama’s inability to speak in public without those trusty devices seems to have rubbed off on the First Lady.
Extemporaneous is not a word often used in the Obama White House. President Obama’s over-reliance on Teleprompters makes it look like he’s watching a tennis match when he gives a speech. Now his inability to speak in public without those trusty devices seems to have rubbed off on the First Lady.
The difference between delivering a speech and reading a speech
Politico reveals the details:
In a Newsweek profile published Sunday, the first lady’s staff members said the first lady will “spend hours and even days preparing for one appearance,” according to the article.
For major speeches, like a commencement address at West Point, Obama will edit drafts by hand, according to the magazine. “Staff will then drag a lectern into her office, where she will rehearse the speech with a teleprompter for days,” it said.
“She demands a lot of herself,” David Axelrod, President Obama’s former senior adviser, told the publication.
Well, that’s one way of putting it. The less charitable among us might say, “She has no confidence in herself.”
As expected, Reuters reports yesterday that the latest rise in jobless claims is “unexpected.” There are none so blind as those who will not see bad news during a Democrat administration.
As expected, Reuters reports yesterday that the latest rise in jobless claims is “unexpected.”
The number of Americans filing new claims for unemployment aid unexpectedly edged higher last week, stoking fears of a stalled economic recovery even as a separate report showed record exports in April.
Initial claims for state jobless benefits increased 1,000 to 427,000, the Labor Department said. However, economists polled by Reuters had forecast claims dropping to 415,000 from a previously reported count of 422,000.
There are none so blind as those who will not see bad news during a Democrat administration.
Cate Blanchett’s latest purchase might make one think she doesn’t believe her own line of global warming hysteria.
Can we call actress Cate Blanchett a Hollywood hypocrite? We think it’s a reasonable appellation, because while she may live in Australia, but her global warming hypocrisy reaches all the way to Tinseltown.
Sunset at Havannah Harbour marks that moment when the sun sets on Cate Blanchett's credibility
Blanchett’s latest purchase might make one think she doesn’t believe her own line of global warming hysteria:
The movie star-turned-eco warrior is believed to have recently bought a plot of land in Vanuatu, one of the countries hardest hit by global warming….
Blanchett is thought to have bought some waterfront property in or around the luxury area of Havannah Harbour during a visit last year…
Other sources said she bought property around Havannah Harbour, where the property market for international celebrities and other jetsetters is booming…
The Vanuatu travel and luxury magazine Pacifique breathlessly opined: “Cate Blanchett’s purchase in Havannah Harbour has everyone rethinking this tropical paradise.”
Far as we can tell, there are only two possible conclusions that can be drawn from this story:
1. Blanchett has made the worst real estate investment in history because her new purchase will soon be under water due to the global warming Blanchett rails against, or
2. Blanchett is just the latest in a long line of global warming hypocrites.
