Time admits that Obama and advisors are lying about exaggerating the need to attack Libya

The unabashedly liberal magazine admits that President Obama and his minions “exaggerated” a detail or two in order to bolster their case for going into Libya

Time Magazine just ran a story titled “Why the U.S. Went to War: Inside the White House Debate on Libya.”

It’s remarkable only in that the unabashedly liberal magazine admits that President Obama and his minions “exaggerated” a detail or two in order to bolster their case for going into Libya:

obama-rio
President Obama in Rio, praying that no one notices his Libyan "exaggerations"

President Barack Obama says he’s intervening to prevent atrocities in Libya. But details of behind-the-scenes debates at the White House show he’s going to war in part to rehabilitate an idea … the president and some of his advisers are so eager to rehabilitate the idea of preventive intervention that they’re exaggerating the violence they say they are intervening to prevent in Libya. “The effort to shoe-horn this into an imminent genocide model is strained,” says one senior administration official. That’s dangerous. Americans deserve an honest explanation when their leaders take them to war.

Obama and his aides know they are taking a big risk. “It’s a huge gamble,” says the senior administration official. The administration knows, for example, that al Qaeda, which has active cells in Libya, will try to exploit the power vacuum that will come with a weak or ousted Gaddafi.

Bush lied and people died, but Obama exaggerated and people were exterminated. Probably too long for a bumper sticker, huh?

There’s nothing Howard Dean loves more than a good war. A good Democrat war, that is.

Howard Dean told Joe Klein the difference between Bush’s war and Obama’s war. As you might expect, Dean approves of Obama’s war.

On Morning Joe, former Presidential candidate and former head of the DNC Howard Dean told Joe Klein the difference between Bush’s war and Obama’s war. As you might expect, Dean approves of Obama’s war.

"And then we're going to South Dakota and Oregon and Libya. Arrrrggggghhhhh!"

Even lefty Klein didn’t buying the spin.

Dean: I don’t think you stay out of these things. You can’t if you’re the most powerful country in the world . . . You have to take chances.
Klein: That’s not what you were saying in 2003!
Dean: That’s because we were lied to about what we were doing . . . we were lied to about the WMD.
Klein: We had the same situation as we do now, which is insufficient information.

This Libya thing is like going to a freak show starring anti-war Democrats as contortionists who shock the audience by twisting their beliefs in unimaginable ways.

Obama says he’ll fight to keep his Peace Prize

Imagine the hurt President Obama felt when he heard that his leftist compadre, Bolivian President Evo Morales, said the Nobel committee should revoke his Peace Prize.

But this brave, resolute man continues to look forward and responds to such suggestions with a determined, “Screw you.”

obama-sweating
"Give back my Peace Prize? I do declare you give me the vapors."

Politico reports on President Obama’s rousing defense of those who gave him an award he clearly didn’t deserve:

President Obama defended his Nobel Peace Prize on Tuesday …

“When I received that award, I specifically said there was an irony because I was already dealing with two wars,” Obama said in an interview with CNN from El Salvador. “So I am accustomed to this contradiction of being both a commander-in-chief but also someone who aspires to peace.”

Saying he is focused on ensuring that Libyans can “live out their own aspirations,” Obama defended America’s involvement in Libya, saying, “we’re not invading a country, we’re not acting alone – we’re acting under a mandate issued by the United Nations Security Council in an unprecedented fashion and with unprecedented speed.”

And he said again that the U.S. military has already saved lives there. “I think the American people don’t see any contradiction in somebody who cares about peace also wanting to make sure that people aren’t butchered because of a dictator who wants to cling to power,” he said.

Let’s review: Hasn’t pulled out of Iraq, ordered more troops into Afghanistan, and launched airstrikes on Libya.

Add ‘em all together and your Nobel Peace Prize becomes an ignoble peace prize.

Trump burnishes his birther credentials: “Show us the birth certificate”

The leftist harridans on the View did not take kindly to The Donald confirming his status as a birther.

“There’s something on that birth certificate he doesn’t like.”

Our newest theory: It’s not that it shows he was born in Kenya. It’s not that he was listed on the birth certificate as “white.” No, we after watching this guy in action for several years now, we believe his birth certificate says that Barack Obama was born female, because it’s clear that he has no balls.

But let’s get to a more important issue: What the hell is Whoopi Goldberg wearing? She looks like Jabba the Hutt in scrubs.

Andrea Mitchell confuses Obama indoctrination for an Obama Doctrine

In this segment of Albert Einstein Meets Stephen Hawking, Andrea Mitchell attempts to explain to Chris Matthews an Obama Doctrine that Obama himself hasn’t articulated.

You know you’re in for some strenuous intellectual calisthenics when Chris Matthews talks to Andrea Mitchell.

In this segment of Albert Einstein Meets Stephen Hawking, Mitchell attempts to explain an Obama Doctrine that Obama himself hasn’t articulated.

Under Mitchell’s imagined Obama Doctrine, we turn loose the dogs of war under three conditions: There’s a preventable humanitarian crisis looming, the benefits of intervention outweigh the costs and, finally, if there’s international support for intervening, we “go for it.”

She left out condition #4: If the media needs to support this President for actions it would have found unsupportable had any other President taken them.

Land of Lincoln? Illinois demands photo IDs for gun purchases, but not for voter IDs

An Illinois law that says you must show valid photo ID to purchase a gun is causing problems for the Amish because their religion prohibits them from having their photos taken.

Illinois may call itself The Land of Lincoln, but old Abe would be turning over in his grave if he saw this story.

An Illinois law that says you must show valid photo ID to purchase a gun is causing problems for the Amish because their religion prohibits them from having their photos taken.

amish Illinois gun photo
The Amish can vote without photo ID, but they can't buy guns

NBC Chicago has the details:

Up till now, the state had allowed them to obtain an FOID card without a photo, as is required of every other gun owner. But last month, the state police director reversed that policy, and said photos would be required of every gun owner, Amish or not.

The sheriff of Douglas County, considered to be the heart of Illinois’ Amish country, said many of them are rifle hunters to bring home food. If the new policy is enforced, many Amish would find themselves facing a tough choice – lose that source of food and protection, or violate their religious teachings.

The issue is complicated even further by the state attorney general recently ruling that FOID information can be made public. The Amish lead sequestered lives and strive to keep society at large out of their affairs. The possibility of making their photos public would make the whole prospect doubly offensive.

Irony alert: The same Democrats who believe the Amish should be forced to violate their religion in order to purchase guns feel just as strongly that photo IDs shouldn’t be required in order to vote. They voted down a law proposed by Republicans in 2008 that would have made voter photo IDs necessary.

An attempt to require Illinois voters to show identification before casting a ballot was rejected Thursday by Democratic lawmakers.

The proposal would have required an official ID in order to get a ballot. Those who didn’t comply could cast provisional votes that would be counted so long as the voter could produce an ID within 10 days.

State Rep. David Reis, a downstate Willow Hill Republican, modeled the Illinois proposal after an Indiana law recently upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court. Supporters said in a day and age in which ID is required with so many daily activities, it’s not out of line to add voting to the list.

“We have to prove who we are to get in this building,” state Rep. Tim Schmitz, a Batavia Republican, said of working in the Capitol. “At some point we have to take responsibility for who we are.”

Unfortunately, Rep. Schmitz, with Democrats in power that point is when you want a gun, not when you want to vote.

Ganging up on Obama: World leaders want Nobel Committee to revoke his Peace Prize

Now we understand why President Obama came out so strongly against bullying. He must have learned in advance that world leaders were going to gang up on him.

DigitalJournal.com has the bully pulpit:

The Bolivian President and a Russian political leader have launched a campaign to revoke Obama’s honour after the US attacked Libya.

revoke obama peace prize
The ol' Nobel Peace Prize Committee is looking a little foolish now, isn't it?

Liberal Democratic Party of Russia leader and Vice-Chairman of the State Duma Vladimir Zhirinovsky released a statement today calling for the Nobel Prize Committee to take back the honour bestowed on US President Barack Obama in 2009.Zhirinovsky said the attacks were “another outrageous act of aggression by NATO forces and, in particular, the United States,” and that the attacks demonstrated a “colonial policy” with “one goal: to establish control over Libyan oil and the Libyan regime.” He said the prize was now hypocritical as a result.

Bolivian President Evo Morales echoed the call: “How is it possible that a Nobel Peace Prize winner leads a gang to attack and invade? This is not a defence of human rights or self-determination.”

Morales won the Gaddafi International Prize for Human Rights in 2006.

To use one of the President’s favorite phrases, let us be clear: We’re positive that Obama never deserved the Nobel Peace Prize in the first place, but equally confident that Morales undoubtedly deserved the Gaddafi award.

Dear Congress: I’ll be out of town for a few days. Signed, Barack Obama. P.S. – I started a war yesterday.

The notification was part of the president’s “efforts to keep the Congress fully informed, consistent with the War Powers Resolution,” but it had the effect of a rather discomforting “While You Were Out…” note.

Damn, we love Jake Tapper. Day in and day out, he’s the most honest reporter in Washington, DC. Far as we can tell, he was never swept up in the Cult of Obama and continues to nail the administration whenever necessary.

Tapper’s blog offers the ABC White House Correspondent’s take on the war in Libya:

obama-tapper
ABC's Jake Tapper asks President Obama, "How do you cross your legs like that?"

Amidst claims by members of Congress that they were insufficiently consulted, and ensuing White House pushback, President Obama Monday officially notified congressional leaders that at “approximately 3:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time, on March 19, 2011, at my direction, U.S. military forces commenced operations to assist an international effort authorized by the United Nations (U.N.) Security Council and undertaken with the support of European allies and Arab partners, to prevent a humanitarian catastrophe and address the threat posed to international peace and security by the crisis in Libya.”

The notification was part of the president’s “efforts to keep the Congress fully informed, consistent with the War Powers Resolution,” but given complaints from both Democrats and Republicans in Congress, and the fact that the war started two days ago, it had the effect of a rather discomforting “While You Were Out…” note.

Bad-a-bing, bad-a-boom, bad-a-holy crap, Jake. Nice work.

Still crazy after all these years: Hugo Chavez says intelligent life on Mars destroyed by capitalism

We don’t know if capitalism destroyed life on Mars, but Chavez presents pretty good evidence that communism has destroyed all intelligent life in Caracas.

Hugo Chavez obviously thinks that Muammar Gadhafi’s days are numbered, because he’s now doing whatever it takes to officially replace the Libyan lunatic as world’s craziest leader.

Reuters has the demented details:

“I have always said, heard, that it would not be strange that there had been civilization on Mars, but maybe capitalism arrived there, imperialism arrived and finished off the planet,” Chavez said in speech to mark World Water Day.

Chavez, who also holds capitalism responsible for many of the world’s problems, warned that water supplies on Earth were drying up.

“Careful! Here on planet Earth where hundreds of years ago or less there were great forests, now there are deserts. Where there were rivers, there are deserts,” Chavez said, sipping from a glass of water.

He added that the West’s attacks on Libya were about water and oil reserves.

We don’t know if capitalism destroyed life on Mars, but Chavez presents pretty good evidence that communism has destroyed all intelligent life in Caracas.

Joe Biden believes President Obama should be impeached over Libyan war

In this interview with MSNBC’s Chris Matthews, Joe Biden clearly states his position that a President should be impeached for launching an attack on a nation that hasn’t attacked the United States.

In this interview with MSNBC’s Chris Matthews, Joe Biden clearly states his position that a President should be impeached for launching an attack on a nation that hasn’t attacked the United States.

Of course, the tough-talking Biden was only a Senator when this interview took place and he was speaking of President Bush, but one would hope that his argument remains consistent.

“I was chairman of the Judiciary Committee for 17 years or its ranking member. I teach separation of powers in Constitutional law. This is something I know. So I got together and brought a group of Constitutional scholars together to write a piece that I’m going to deliver to the whole Unites States Senate pointing out the President has no Constitutional authority to take this nation to war against a country of 70 million people unless we’re attacked or unless there is proof that we are about to be attacked. And if he does, if he does, I would move to impeach him. The House obviously has to do that, but I would lead an effort to impeach him. The reason for my doing that, and I don’t say it lightly, I don’t say it lightly….”

Perhaps the three words no American wants to hear: President Joe Biden.

A lunatic, but a very consistent lunatic: Ralph Nader wants to impeach Obama

Ralph Nader wanted to impeach George Bush for the Iraq War and now you can add his name to the list of libs who want to impeach Barack Obama for the Libyan War

Ralph Nader wanted to impeach George Bush for the Iraq War and now you can add his name to the list of libs who want to impeach Barack Obama for the Libyan War … or incursion … or situation … or whatever we’re calling it.

We gotta give the guy credit for consistency.

British newspaper calls Obama “ineffectual, invisible, the weakest president in history”

What is President Obama doing about anything? The most alarming answer – your guess is as good as mine – is also, frankly, the most accurate one.

Pip, pip, cheerio, chaps. Blimey, guv-nah! (Sorry, but that’s the best we can do at faking that language they speak in the United Kingdom).

The Express UK says what American newspapers are so hesitant to say, in an article entitled, “BARACK OBAMA: THE WEAKEST PRESIDENT IN HISTORY?”:

obama-golf
When the Brits said, "It's tea time," President Obama said, "Let's play 18."

INEFFECTUAL, invisible, unable to honour pledges and now blamed for letting Gaddafi off the hook. Why Obama’s gone from ‘Yes we can’ to ‘Er, maybe we shouldn’t’

Let us cast our minds back to those remarkable days in November 2008 when the son of a Kenyan goatherd was elected to the White House. It was a bright new dawn – even brighter than the coming of the Kennedys and their new Camelot. JFK may be considered as being from an ethnic and religious minority – Irish and Catholic – but he was still very rich and very white. Barack Obama, by contrast, was a true breakthrough president. The world would change because obviously America had changed.

Obama’s campaign slogan was mesmerisingly simple and brimming with self-belief: “Yes we can.” His presidency, however, is turning out to be more about “no we won’t.” Even more worryingly, it seems to be very much about: “Maybe we can… do what, exactly?“ The world feels like a dangerous place when leaders are seen to lack certitude but the only thing President Obama seems decisive about is his indecision. What should the US do about Libya? What should the US do about the Middle East in general? What about the country’s crippling debts? What is the US going to do about Afghanistan, about Iran?

What is President Obama doing about anything? The most alarming answer – your guess is as good as mine – is also, frankly, the most accurate one. What the President is not doing is being clear, resolute and pro-active, which is surely a big part of his job description.

Amazing, isn’t it, that people who have English as a second language would be able to state the situation so clearly.

Missouri Democrat Claire McCaskill’s political career dies in a horrible flaming airplane crash

McCaskill revealed that after her own review of the plane’s records, she had not paid personal property taxes on the aircraft over the past four years.

Mark Twain said, “Reports of my death are greatly exaggerated.” But in the case of Missouri Democrat Senator Claire McCaskill, her political death is imminent. Or in 2012, whichever comes first.

First, she supported ObamaCare when 71% of her state voted against it. Then she was hit with an ethics complaint after being forced to pay more than $88,000 to the Treasury Department after she used taxpayer funds from her Senate office account to pay for nearly 90 flights on her own airplane. And now she has more ethics problems with the same plane.

Politico has the story of McCaskilll’s rough landing:

In a conference call Monday afternoon, McCaskill revealed that after her own review of the plane’s records, she had not paid personal property taxes on the aircraft over the past four years.

“I have discovered that the personal property taxes on the plane have not been paid. There should have been a reporting to the county of the existence of this plane. There are people I could blame for this, but I know better. I take full responsibility,” McCaskill said to reporters, after revealing she had conducted her own audit of all 89 flights she had taken.

“This was a mistake, It should have been reported in Missouri. It will be paid in Missouri today,” she said.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KrCa5909UuQ

Yes, of course, it was a mistake. Same kind of mistake Tim Geithner made on his taxes. Same kind of mistake John Kerry made when he saved hundreds of thousands of dollars by docking his new yacht in Rhode Island instead of Massachusetts. Same kind of mistake Charlie Rangel made when he didn’t report income on his Caribbean hideaway.

McCaskill said she would be sending a check for $287,273 to St. Louis County Monday for the back taxes she owed between 2007 and 2010. She also said she had campaign lawyers looking into the flights to determine if any more in-kind contributions needed to be reported to be in compliance.

Asked if this would hurt her reelection bid, McCaskill replied, “I don’t know, I’ve tried to handle this like I handle anything else,” citing her advocacy for transparency and accountability in Congress.

Far be it from us to write any premature political obituaries, but Claire McCaskill’s political career is as dead as Knut the polar bear.

Fomer Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Alvarez learned a painful lesson: Raise taxes, raise the voters' ire

Here’s story #1:

Miami-Dade mayor ousted in recall vote; Anger over tax hike…

Voters swept Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Alvarez out of office by a stunning margin Tuesday, capping a dramatic collapse for a politician who was given increased authority by voters four years ago to clean up much-maligned county government but was ushered out in the largest recall of a local politician in U.S. history.

The spectacular fall from power comes after two years of missteps, ranging from granting top staffers big pay hikes to construction of a publicly funded stadium for the Florida Marlins to implementation of a property-tax rate increase that outraged an electorate struggling through an ugly recession.

And here’s story #2:

Mandatory Spending to Exceed all Federal Revenues — 50 Years Ahead of Schedule…

We have now gotten to the point — as I noted yesterday — where if national defense, interstate highways, national parks, homeland security, and all other discretionary programs somehow became absolutely free, we’d still have a budget deficit.

The White House Office of Management and Budget projects that in the current fiscal year (2011), mandatory spending alone will exceed all federal receipts. So even if we didn’t spend a single cent on discretionary programs, we still wouldn’t be able to balance our budget this year — let alone pay off any of the $14 trillion in debt that we have already accumulated.

Raise our taxes to compensate for your profligate spending, Democrats and you could soon find yourself standing behind Republican former Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Alvarez in the unemployment line.

The Barack H. Obama Elementary School, proof that factories aren't the only thing this President can close
The Asbury Park Press presents the particulars:

The century-old Bangs Avenue School … renamed for President Barack Obama just a year ago … will be closed as a neighborhood school this summer, largely because of a steep slide in the district’s total enrollment the past decade.

Bruce N. Rodman, the state-appointed monitor who oversees the district’s finances, Thursday ordered that elementary students be reassigned to the city’s two other elementary schools as of July 1.

According to a plan presented at a community meeting Monday night, all kindergarten-through-fourth-grade students living west of Comstock Street would go to Bradley Elementary School at 1100 Third Ave., and those east of Comstock would attend Thurgood Marshall Elementary at 600 Monroe Ave.

Fifth-graders would be moved to the middle school.

The Obama school closing is expected to result in 470 students enrolled at Bradley and 540 at Thurgood Marshall.

Luckily, the Barack Obama Male Leadershp Academy is still open in Dallas.

This year, anyway.

The number of voters nationwide who give President Obama good or excellent marks for his handling of economic issues has fallen to a new low.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey of Likely Voters show that just 31% rate Obama’s handling of economic issues as good or excellent. Forty-five percent (45%) say the president is doing a poor job handling these issues.

Positive ratings for the president on these issues are down from 34% last week and are the lowest since he took office in early 2009.

Maybe next time around Rasmussen should ask what flavor of Kool-Aid is most popular among the 31%.

Introducing the anti-Obama:
Puerto Rico Governor Luis Fortuno

BEHOLD: Gov. Luis Fortuno, from Puerto Rico, who is basically like the photo negative of Obama.

To listen to the Democrats talk, any cuts in spending will destroy not only our fragile economy, but the entire balance of the universe.

If only there were a small, isolated island where those crazy conservative theories could be tested. You know, somewhere like Puerto Rico.

ChicksOnTheRight.com has a story that surprised the hell out of us. In a good way.

BEHOLD: Gov. Luis Fortuno, from Puerto Rico, who is basically like the photo negative of Obama. I mean, yes, they are similar in that they came into office at exactly the same time, and they both faced seriously troubling economic issues. The U.S. had a 7.6% unemployement rate when Obama was sworn in, and Puerto Rico’s unemployment rate was 9.4%. But the way that Fortuno responded to Puerto Rico’s fiscal woes was the POLAR OPPOSITE of how Obama responded.

Fortuno, the first Republican governor in PR since 1969, didn’t call for a gigantic stimulus the moment he took office. He didn’t ask for a bailout. Nope – instead, he cut government expenses by 20%, including a salary reduction for himself of 10%. He cut government perks (cars, cell phones, credit cards) by 10%. He eliminated 17,000 government jobs, and he streamlined services by making more of them available on line. He cut the corporate tax rate from 41% to 30%, and it’ll go down another 5% in 3 years. He’s cutting individual tax rates by 29% starting in 2013.

And in just two years, the deficit in PR has shrunk from 44% of revenues to only 11%. Compare that to Obama, who’s managed in that same time to increase the deficit and debt by TRILLIONS of dollars, by growing government.

And the Democrats’ answer is, “Yeah, but … yeah, but … yeah, but …”

White ain’t right: NAACP under fire for advertising in white newspapers only

Maybe this is just what happens when you elect a black guy who’s whiter than most white people as President of the NAACP.

Maybe this is just what happens when you elect a black guy who’s whiter than most white people as President of the NAACP.

NAACP President and CEO Benjamin Todd Jealous admits that “a grave mistake was made” right under his nose when advertising inserts were placed only in White newspapers on the eve of the organization’s annual image awards, which aired March 4. Danny Bakewell, chairman of the National Newspaper Publishers Association (NNPA), a federation of more than 200 Black-owned newspapers, is demanding justice.

ben-jealous
Ben Jealous, the whitest black man in history, is President of the NAACP

“If the NAACP desires to advertise with the White press, they need to understand and experience the repercussions of going outside of their ‘house’ (The Black Press). The NAACP needs to know that by ignoring the Black Press they are ‘cutting off their nose to spite their face,’” Bakewell said in a March 7 letter to NNPA publishers, obtained by the Trice Edney News Wire. “We have marched side by side with them and been their voice in the African American community. It is truly disheartening to be on the battlefield with someone and not be able to share in the spoils.”

Share in the spoils? Let’s go to freedictionary.com to see if “spoils” means what we think it means:

a. Goods or property seized from a victim after a conflict, especially after a military victory.
b. Incidental benefits reaped by a winner, especially political patronage enjoyed by a successful party or candidate.

Yup, that’s what we thought it meant. We’re just surprised that Bakewell admits publicly that the NAACP is all about reaping benefits from political patronage.

So much for the old kid’s riddle, “What’s black and white and read all over?”

Now, thanks to the wonders of 21st century race relations, we discover newspapers are either black or white, but not both.

Now we learn our ABCs and CO2s: Schools to teach “environmental literacy”

States are busy setting goals for environmental literacy with the under the No Child Left Inside Coalition.

They are coming after the hearts and minds of your children

PatriotUpdate.com has the environmental information:

Across the country, states are busy setting goals for environmental literacy, including here in Wisconsin, where the state’s first Environmental Literacy Plan is being drafted by a new group, the Wisconsin chapter of the No Child Left Inside Coalition. State Superintendent Tony Evers asked the group, whose members represent key environmental education organizations, for the plan and has called for educators statewide to “renew our commitment to teaching students about environmental responsibility.”

This year, funding was restored for a long-vacant environmental education consultant position within the Department of Public Instruction. Among this staff member’s duties: making sure teachers are properly trained for environmental education, and providing districts with resources and technical assistance to help meet the state’s goals for environmental literacy.

The flurry of activity is partly due to rumors that the Obama administration is leaning toward including environmental education initiatives in the reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (previously known as the No Child Left Behind Act). The legislation may open up funding for states with strong environmental education programs and goals.

In other words, line up at the trough, little piggies. Here comes farmer Obama with a whole new load of slop.

Great news: President Obama slashes future deficits by $2.3 trillion

The Congressional Budget Office that made Obama look like a fool by announcing that his estimate of future deficits was off by massive $2.3 trillion.

We take back all the horrible things we’ve said about President Obama. He’s a damn miracle worker. He made the Republicans look like fools yesterday by cutting a massive $2 trillion (with a T) from future deficits.

Oh, wait. Looks like we misread the story. Turns out it was the Congressional Budget Office that made Obama look like a fool by announcing that his estimate of the deficits was off by massive $2.3 trillion.

barack-obama-angry
"The Congressional Budget Office said what?"

The Hill has the details of the deficit:

The Congressional Budget Office on Friday released its analysis of President Obama’s 2012 budget proposal and found it does less to rein in deficits and the debt than the administration had estimated.

CBO estimates Obama’s plan would produce 10 years of deficits totaling $9.5 trillion. By 2021, it would increase the debt held by the public to 87 percent of gross domestic product.

The administration, using different methods, estimated budget deficits would total $7.2 trillion over the next 10 years under the 2012 budget. It forecast that total debt in 2021 would be 77 percent of GDP.

The “different methods” include sprinkling pixie dust over the budget and flat out making crap up. Marc Goldwein of the CBO tells why:

He explained that the difference between the CBO’s $9.5 trillion estimate and OMB’s $7.2 trillion estimate comes from two sources: rosy economic growth assumptions by OMB and offsets for the Medicare doc fix as well as transportation spending OMB did not specify in the budget and which CBO will not factor in.

In other words, they overestimated the good stuff and underestimated the bad stuff.

And in other other words, they lied.

Andrea Mitchell and Cokie Roberts: NPR needs money so rednecks and Indians can hear the news

NPR doesn’t appeal merely to liberal, big city elites. Heaven forbid. No, according to this line of reasoning, the very people liberal elites disdain the most are NPR’s most ardent fans.

In the wake of James O’Keefe’s devastating NPR sting, the mainstream media has apparently reached the “throw it up against the wall and see if it sticks” point. Its arguments in favor of continued funding are getting more desperate and less rational.

Cokie Roberts tried a novel approach on This Week last week:

Roberts: Well, there are not 14,000 radio stations in rural areas, which is where most of the federal funding goes. Most of those stations are the ones that NPR gets hardly any money from the federal government, and the big stations get hardly any money. But the little, tiny, rural stations that, where there’s nothing else on the air, get a lot of money and they would go dark.

"Sure it's a stupid argument, but it's the only one I have."

MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell took that line of reasoning a step or two further when she interviewed Majority Leader Eric Cantor last Wednesday:

Mitchell: I just want to point out that NPR and the radio stations are saying that the elimination of federal funding for public broadcasting would be extraordinarily damaging to the services that they provide in rural America, on Indian reservations. Not in the big cities, perhaps, as much where other kinds of fundraising is possible, private fundraising, but in a lot of poor communities, it’s their only news service.

Based on this argument, one can only assume that rednecks listen to “All Things Considered” as they drive their pickups around looking for black and gay men to lynch. And Native Americans listen to “Car Talk” while hand-grinding what we call corn, but they call maize.

In other words, NPR doesn’t appeal merely to liberal, big city elites. Heaven forbid. No, according to this line of reasoning, the very people liberal elites disdain the most are NPR’s most ardent fans.

Unfortunately, the network’s own website offers audience stats that put the lie to this inane argument.

So NPR’s audience is older, far richer and far more educated than the average American. Yet Roberts and Mitchell would have you believe that it’s poor, uneducated rural Americans who value NPR the most.

As NPR’s supposed redneck audience would say, “Bullshit.” As it’s supposed Native American audience would say, “Heap big bullshit.” And as it’s actual audience would say, “Please pass the Grey Poupon, Th0urston.”

Knut goes kaput: Popular German polar bear dies from severe case of global warming

Global warming has claimed another polar bear. Well, actually, there’s no proof, not even a hint, that global warming had anything to do with Knut the polar bear’s sudden, unexpected death. But…

Global warming has claimed another polar bear.

Well, actually, there’s no proof, not even a hint, that global warming had anything to do with Knut the polar bear’s sudden, unexpected death. But there’s no proof that global warming is killing any other polar bears, either, so let’s just get out ahead of the eco-wackos and blame Knut’s death on the C02 myth, too.

Thanks to global warming, Knut has assumed room temperature

The Guardian UK details Knut’s demise:

Knut, the polar bear raised by Berlin zoo keepers after being rejected by his mother, has collapsed and died unexpectedly in his compound. According to reports, several hundred visitors to the zoo saw him fall. The three other bears that usually shared his enclosure, including his mother Tosca, were not there.

“It’s terrible,” Berlin mayor Klaus Wowereit told a Berlin newspaper. “He had a special place in all of our hearts. He was the star of Berlin Zoo.”

Bear keeper Heiner Kloes said that the cause of death of the four-year-old bear is not clear.

Not clear? The hell you say. Michael Mann beat him to death with a hockey stick.

Screw them and the camels they rode in on: Arab League now criticizes Libyan airstrikes it requested

You’re forgiven if you think that’s a joke headline. Unfortunately, it’s not. The Arab League, which begged for NATO intervention in Libya now objects to NATO intervention in Libya.

Libyan rebels are slightly more excited about NATO intervention than the Arab League is

The Associated Press describes the ol’ switcheroo:

The head of the Arab League has criticized international strikes on Libya, saying they caused civilian deaths.

The Arab League’s support for a no-fly zone last week helped overcome reluctance in the West for action in Libya. The U.N. authorized not only a no-fly zone but also “all necessary measures” to protect civilians.

Amr Moussa says the military operations have gone beyond what the Arab League backed.

Moussa has told reporters Sunday that “what happened differs from the no-fly zone objectives.” He says “what we want is civilians’ protection not shelling more civilians.”

Un-freakin-believable.
