Chicago releases video of cop shooting black teen. The video was just released. We note the following.
1. There is no sound, so you can hear what’s going on on the radio, any commands that were issued to Laquan McDonald or any words said by the police post shooting.
2. It appears obvious McDonald did not follow commands. We assume he was probably told to stop numerous times, probably told to drop his knife (if he had one) and put his hands where they could be seen numerous times before being shot.
3. According to the officer’s attorney the video is edited. It appears to us to only show a couple of bullets hitting McDonald when it’s claimed he was shot 16 times.
4. It is alleged that Officer Van Dyke shot McDonald 16 times, by himself, then reloaded. You can’t see this or hear it on the tape. That’s the part we find incredible with all those officers there. No other dashcams running?
Note: This video is longer. The first 5 minutes were the officer driving to the scene so we started it at 5:00 just before the shooting occurred.
Update: The city paid the family $5 million in an alleged cover-up attempt.
Update: Chicago PD allegedly went into a nearby Burger King and deleted 86 minutes of video.
Update: No one had a taser?
Now we can wait and see what happens in Chicago.
