Is Obama a Christian? Chris Matthews doesn’t think you should take him at his word.

Mitch McConnel’s words, “take him at his word,” sent Chris Matthews over the edge on Monday’s Hardball. He apparently got his hands on a birther decoder ring, because he informed his viewers that the words “take him at his word,” when translated, provide a “Pitch perfect dog whistle to the haters.”

Why? Why would you take Barack Obama at his word when he’s lied about everything – and we mean everything – since the day he took office. Even before.

Republican Senate Minority Leader MitchMcConnell appeared on Sunday’s Meet the Press. MSNBC’s increasingly-wacky Chris Matthews accused McConnell of using super secret code language to send messages to birthers when he said, “The President says he’s a Christian. I take him at his word.”

The words “take him at his word” sent Matthews over the edge on Monday’s Hardball. He apparently got his hands on a birther decoder ring, because he informed his viewers that the words “take him at his word,” when translated, provide a “Pitch perfect dog whistle to the haters.”

And Matthews was just getting warmed up. He then came up with a grand conspiracy McConnell, Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck and Rev. Franklin Graham to scare the bejeebers out of voters with a “message of fear.” They’re the ringleaders of “The right wing’s attempt to de-Americanize the President.”

Is it just us or is the left starting to sound increasingly desperate?
