Lesbian Methodist bishop says don’t idolize Jesus. Like the rest of us he was just a human being, full of sin and figuring things out as went along. So says Bishop Karen Oliveto, who most admires Jesus for “giving up his bigotries and prejudices.” (In other words, in case the LGBT messaging was too subtle for you, Jesus would have accepted her lesbian relationship so you should, too.)

Taking a moment out from homework and b4 I leave for school… just wanted to remark on this. I have friends (a couple I know) who live in a sleepy Hudson town in NY State who go to a Presby church where there is now a bisexual pastor who is proud not only to be bisexual and out, but also that he is agnostic about G-d altogether (never mind whether Jesus is Lord, or not). The wife half of this couple thinks this is the greatest thing since sliced bread that the pastor hits on both the men and the women of the congregation (and he ain’t no spring chicken, either).

So I guess the latest, greatest thing is to be leading a Christian church with hardly a belief, nor to instill a belief, in G-d. This apparently has become the highest form of rationalist religiosity and the best reason to lead a church and to come to church. (BTW, this is not entirely a new idea, considering many reformed Jews attend services at temples where all sorts of ideas are entertained about G-d, including that He may be a She, or perhaps He exists not at all.)

Funnier still is that the husband half of this couple that I know plays “professionally” at this church. Unlike its choir, he is paid – get this – union scale for his talents. I didn’t realize one can command a payment for offering music to the Lord within one’s own church that he or she belongs to as a congregant.

But I’m just an ordinary believer. What do I know?

I belonged to a Presbyterian church in Reno that decided to leave the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) when they decided to allow gay marriage. I was just leaving Reno for Michigan so I wasn’t there for the whole exit but it was the most Christian and most loving major decision I’ve ever seen a church make. There were people on both sides and while the majority was clearly of the opinion that it was time to exit, they never got angry with the few that resisted the move, nor did they ever resort to angry words. I was so proud of my congregation. They simply decided that the Bible was clear on the subject and they no longer wanted to be associated with a national organization that had decided to accept sin. Tens of thousands of other churches made the same decision. My church joined a rival, more conservative Presbyterian denomination. The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) has been dying ever since they accepted the gay agenda over God’s agenda.

If you’re looking for perhaps the main reason we’re in the deep garbage we are now, look no further than the theological and political destruction of mainstream Christian churches in the west. In 1988, thousands of protesters showed up a Paramount studios to protest “The Last Temptation of Christ” and scared the willies out of them. That was pretty much the last hurrah for Christianity as a political force in the US.

Following is a post in the comment section of the article by Alfy…
So Jesus was just a man , not God ?
C.S. Lewis
“I am trying here to prevent anyone saying the really foolish thing that people often say about Him: I’m ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher, but I don’t accept his claim to be God. That is the one thing we must not say. A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic — on the level with the man who says he is a poached egg — or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God, or else a madman or something worse. You can shut him up for a fool, you can spit at him and kill him as a demon or you can fall at his feet and call him Lord and God, but let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about his being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to.

Thank you Alfy, and C.S. Lewis.

C. S. Lewis was a great apologist, perhaps the greatest. I don’t know how many times Jesus flat out said he was God, I’m not a biblical scholar of any sort, but I learned a new one a couple days ago. When He walked on water to save Peter, the proper interpretation of what Jesus said when Peter wondered who he was is, “I am,” which is what God said to Moses in the Old Testament. He also used the words “I am” during his trial. And quite often he called Himself the “Son of Man” (more often than the Son of God, actually) which people love to say means he was NOT God, but actually “Son of Man” refers back to Daniel 7 in the Old Testament and was a term for an exalted heavenly being, not just a term for a human being.

The point being that since He called himself God, you can’t call Him a great moral teacher and not accept His divinity because that would make Him a liar.

Maybe the bishop should get up from the carpet and spend more time reading the bible. “Go forth and sin no more” is the term Jesus spoke to the woman.

Again, the radical gays and lesbians will pervert anything to make themselves accepted. I don’t care what in the hell you do behind closed doors with an adult. If you shove your “lifestyle” in my face, don’t be shocked when I shove it back.
