This writer has two kids in California colleges and knows all about forced diversity training courses. Well, they don’t physically force you, but if you like the idea of getting a degree for your time at school, you might want to take the class.
We don’t know if Paulo Serodio had a requirement to take a cultural diversity class in the University of Medicine and Dentistry in New Jersey, or if he just felt it would help him be a better medical professional.
Serodio claims that in 2006 he accurately told the class that he was “White, African, American.” Sounds right to us, given he is white, was born in Mozambique, and is an American citizen.
You can imagine the how that went over. He was harassed, his car was vandalized and was finally suspended for “conduct unbecoming a student.”
Serodio has now filed suit against the school. We wish him well.
Cultural diversity. It’s really a black and white issue, isn’t it?
