Reuters has the details of the first Oval Office quickie since Bill met Monica:
President Barack Obama will confront BP Plc on Wednesday with a demand that it set aside billions of dollars to pay damages from the Gulf of Mexico oil spill, the worst in U.S. history.
BP executives, including Chairman Carl-Henric Svanberg, CEO Tony Hayward and BP U.S. boss Lamar McKay, were seen walking into the West Wing of the White House just before 10 a.m. ET for talks with Obama that were scheduled to last 20 minutes.
20 minutes? Here’s what happens in 20 minutes. You usher the three BP officials into the Oval Office, everyone introduces themselves, they shake hands, take their seats, Barack gives the White House steward his coffee order and the BP officials give him their tea orders, Obama thanks them for coming, tells them he certainly didn’t mean it when he threatened to kick someone’s ass and “How about that Laker game last night”, the coffee and tea arrive too late for them to drink it, they stand up, shake hands again and leave.
That’s 20 minutes.
When Obama said the Gusher in the Gulf was like 9-11, it was obviously a typo. It was supposed to read “the oil spill is like 9+11.”
