Yesterday’s elections are old news. What about 2012?

Democrats will have to defend 23 Senate seats compared to only ten for the Republicans. And to make matters even worse, the Republican seats all seem relatively safe while nearly half of the Democrat seats could be in jeopardy.

They say a month is an eternity in politics, so two years is … uhhh … even longer. Nevertheless, it looks like the Democrats face some big, big problems in 2012.

united-states-senate
The United States Senate in 2012: Red, redder, reddest

They’ll have to defend 23 Senate seats compared to only ten for the Republicans. And to make matters even worse, the Republican seats all seem relatively safe while nearly half of the Democrat seats could be in jeopardy.

Bottom line: Democrats will lose even more ground in 2012 and Republicans will take firm control of the Senate.

Here’s a quick review of what the future may hold.

Safe Democrats seats (also includes two Independents who caucus with the Democrats):

1. Dianne Feinstein of California (Feinstein will be 79 years old and has more money than God. Even if she doesn’t run, California should be a safe state for the Democrats)
2. Tom Carper of Delaware (Got 70% of the vote in 2006. Even if rumored health problems knock him out of the race, Delaware will probably elect another Democrat)

dianne-feinstein
California Democrat Dianne Feinstein. She can run, but she can't hide.

3. Ben Cardin of Maryland (This seems like a pretty safe seat, but Cardin only managed 54% of the vote in 2006 against moronic Michael Steele. If the Republicans can find a strong candidate, this seat could be vulnerable.)
4. Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota (Seems popular and no strong Republicans seem to be waiting in the wings.)
5. Jeff Bingaman of New Mexico (Got 71% of the vote in 2006. Probably one of those safe Democrat seats.)
6. Ken Conrad of North Dakota (Got 69% of the vote in 2006. Likely another safe Democrat seat.)
7. Bob Casey, Jr. of Pennsylvania (Destroyed Rick Santorum in 2006. No reason to think he won’t repeat in 2012.)
8. Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island (Got nearly 54% of the vote against a well-known Republican incumbent in 2006. No reason to think wacky Rhode Island voters will send him packing now.)
9. Maria Cantwell of Washington (Seems to be a safe seat in left wing Washington.)
10. Joe Lieberman of Connecticut (Quirky Lieberman will be 70 in 2012, but remains popular in the state. Will probably win reelection if he runs. Republicans will be working on him to officially switch the the Republican party the day the 2010 elections beginning on November 3.)
11. Bernie Sanders of Vermont (Lunatic socialist who probably hasn’t voted with the Republicans once since he joined the Senate. Safe Independent (read: Democrat) seat.)
12. Kirsten Gillibrand of New York (Democrats will probably hold onto the seat. Stranger things have happened than a Republican winning in New York, but we can’t think of any off the top of our heads.)
13. Joe Manchin of West Virginia (Manchin is probably the most popular politician in America. There’s no reason to think the guy who won this seat in 2010 won’t repeat in 2012.)

Michelle Obama tells Democrats to vote early and vote often. Or something like that.

Michelle Obama: “You need to tell them that they can’t just vote once and hope for change to happen.” Spoken like a true Chicago Democrat.

Michelle Obama was on the stump … ugh. Don’t know about you, but that gives us a disturbing mental image.

Vote early, vote often, vote Democrat

Let’s just go straight to Politico:

“We don’t have much time,” Michelle Obama declared to voters on Monday, urging them to get out the vote as her husband stayed at the White House and worked the phones the day before the midterms.
Rallying Democrats for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid in Las Vegas, Obama told the crowd to round up people who voted in 2008 but “who are planning to sit this one out.”

“You need to tell them that they can’t just vote once and hope for change to happen,” she said. “They’ve got to vote every single time.”

Hip hop mogul Russell Simmons: If you don’t vote you’ll get an Alice In Wonderland Congress where lies are truth

russell-simmons
Conservatives love being lectured about right and wrong by a hip hop mogul

If we don’t wake up on Tuesday and rush to the polls, by the end of the day, we will find ourselves with an Alice In Wonderland Congress, where up is down and wrong is right, and lies are truth and hating diversity is seen as patriotism. In the new Alice In Wonderland that is today’s Republican Party, Sarah Palin is the Queen of Hearts screaming “Off With Their Heads”; Glenn Beck is the Mad Hatter with all his tears; Rush Limbaugh is the Cheshire Cat, laughing at the madness and loving it.

Unless moderates and progressives quickly put aside their disenchantments and VOTE on Tuesday, we will wake up on Wednesday to newly elected politicians whose meanness, duplicity and downright madness is unique even by the standards of past American moments of extreme right.

Tooooooo late, Russell. Let the madness begin. Feel the madness. Embrace the madness. Luxuriate in the madness. Roll around naked in the madness.

“A few hundred” show up to see “rock star” Michelle Obama

michelle-obama-rock-star
Yeah, Michelle Obama's a rock star like Neil Sedaka's a rock star

Looks like it’s not working out that way.

The Independent UK has the “L-shaped fingers to the forehead” details:

The crowd went wild when Michelle Obama swept into a high-school gymnasium in Las Vegas yesterday morning, with little Harry Reid trailing in her wake and a local Mariachi band, in full dress uniform, entertaining the crowd. But behind the flag waving and anthem-singing, and the sunny optimism of a typical American election rally, there was a palpable sense of unease.

Two years ago, at the height of Obamania, the First Lady was a sort of rock-star; with a following wind, she could fill an outdoor stadium. Today, her stock has fallen. A few hundred people did turn out to hear her speech, but there were swathes of seats left empty at the back, and plenty of standing room around the stage.

Michelle speaks to empty seats. Biden speaks to 200. And even the Chicago Savior himself speaks to an arena with 5000 empty seats.

Would someone get us a box of Kleenex? We’re wiping away tears of joy.

Black Republicans – the oxymoron that keeps Democrats awake at night

in 2010, highly-qualified black candidates all across the country have abandoned the Democrat Plantation and are running as – gasp – conservative Republicans.

The phrase “black Republican” used to be an oxymoron. But here in 2010, highly-qualified black candidates all across the country have abandoned the Democrat Plantation and are running as – gasp – conservative Republicans.

Check out this video. It’s a clarion call to other black voters: “Vote Republican. For the very first time.”

After losing seniors, independents and women, President Obama decides to lose the wacko vote, too

So there’s poor ol’ President Obama addressing a tepid crowd of Blumenthal supporters in Connecticut when some AIDS activists began heckling him. Again.

We say “again” because their heckling has become a regular feature of his endless campaigns. The AIDS activists show up every time he does. The only difference is that they don’t bring along Teleprompters.

It’s actually kind of fun to watch the President lose his cool. You know, that famous cool that caused so many morons to vote for this empty suit.

Too good to be true: Final Gallop Generic Congressional Ballot shows GOP up by 15

The results are from Gallup’s Oct. 28-31 survey of 1,539 likely voters. It finds 52% to 55% of likely voters preferring the Republican candidate and 40% to 42% for the Democratic candidate on the national generic ballot

We’re not religious, but we’re praying that Gallup is right.

nancy-pelosi
The latest Gallup Poll is a real eye opener for Nancy Pelosi. Or maybe it's just her latest nip and tuck.

The results are from Gallup’s Oct. 28-31 survey of 1,539 likely voters. It finds 52% to 55% of likely voters preferring the Republican candidate and 40% to 42% for the Democratic candidate on the national generic ballot — depending on turnout assumptions. Gallup’s analysis of several indicators of voter turnout from the weekend poll suggests turnout will be slightly higher than in recent years, at 45%. This would give the Republicans a 55% to 40% lead on the generic ballot, with 5% undecided…

Fact is, Gallup has a long track record of calling congressional races closer than any other polling group. So let’s assume they’re correct this year, too.

If that’s the case, what’s your prediction? How many seats will Republicans pick up?

86% at “nonpartisan” Stewart/Colbert rally identify themselves as Democrats

Funny thing about that “nonpartisan” rally Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert held on Saturday. It was oddly partisan. 86% identified themselves as Democrats, but only 1% of those in attendance identify themselves as Republican.

Funny thing about that “nonpartisan” rally Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert held on Saturday. It was oddly partisan.

86% identified themselves as Democrats, but only 1% of those in attendance identify themselves as Republican.

That is, of course, the kind of nonpartisanship found typically at nonpartisan places like MSNBC.

TheHill.com has the nonpartisan numbers:

A straw poll conducted on attendees at the rally hosted by comedians Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert on the National Mall Saturday found an overwhelming majority of Democratic voters, but sapped enthusiasm as compared to 2008.

According to the poll conducted by Lake Research Partners & Revolution Messaging at the “Rally to Restore Sanity,” 86 percent of participants surveyed said they planned to vote Democratic this week, with eight percent undecided and just one percent voting Republican.

Only one in four surveyed said they more excited about this election than 2008. Thirty-nine percent said their enthusiasm had diminished.

A full 90 percent of rally attendees approved of President Obama, with 56 percent approving of him strongly. Only 10 percent disapproved of the president, just 2 percent strongly.

They must be exhausted from all that reaching across the aisle.

Voter fraud? What voter fraud? We don’t have a voter-fraud problem.

This is classic. Minnesota Democrat Betty McCollum was debating Teresa Collett, her Republican challenger, when she made the remarkable claim that there’s no such thing as voter fraud. None. It’s all in her constituents’ heads.

The response? Laughter and catcalls from the audience and a pointed rebuttal from Collett.

The Associated Press has the bad news for Delaware Democrats:

Joe Biden counts the number of Democrat supporters at his Delaware rally

Biden headlined a Democratic rally in downtown Wilmington on Monday evening that drew about 200 people. He was confident Democrats would hold on to the Senate seat that had been his for more than 30 years.

Joining Biden were New Castle County executive Chris Coons, who is considered the favorite in his U.S. Senate race against Republican tea party favorite Christine O’Donnell.

Former lieutenant governor and Democrat John Carney also appeared at the rally. He faces Republican Glen Urquhart for the seat held by Rep. Mike Castle, the Republican who gave up his spot to run for Senate and lost the primary to O’Donnell.

Two hundred? They had the vice president of the United States, the state’s candidate for the United States Senate, and a House candidate and they only drew 200 people?

Christine O’Donnell’s coven is larger than that.

Inside Sharron Angle’s Campaign Headquarters

Last week I witnessed the effects of media indoctrination, first hand, when I went to do some volunteer work at Sharron Angle’s campaign headquarters.

Guest post by Sonny Palermo

We all hate the media. We loathe their liberal bias. We detest their posturing of neutrality. We abhor their selective enforcement, pounding Republicans every chance they get, handing out free passes to Democrats for the same offenses and all the while hoping no one notices.

sharon-angle-campaign-headquarters
Political campaigns aren't always glamorous, but someone has to do it

We notice. And we call BS on them. We make light of it here, we use humor and sarcasm to bring your attention to it, but we take their insidious agenda seriously, because we know their intent and the damage they cause.  Last week I witnessed it, first hand, when I went to do some volunteer work at Sharron Angle’s campaign headquarters.

After filling out the requisite forms and showing them my ID, the office manager showed me a list of over a dozen areas that volunteers can participate in, including door knocking, putting up signs, and poll watching (Yes, poll watching. Voter fraud and abuse by Democrats is real, and the campaign has attorneys and supporters at every location watching out for and recording any shenanigans). Their research shows that phoning voters at home is the most effective use of volunteers so they asked if I would help man the phone banks and I complied.

The office was a beehive of activity, the cubicles filled with volunteers of all ages, with a slight lean towards seniors. I was given a script, with an opening, “Hi, I’m (your name here) and I’m calling on behalf of Sharron Angle for Senate” and two questions: “Will you be voting Republican in this election cycle?” and “Will you be participating in early voting?”

The objective was to reach out to as many voters as you can, remind them that early voting ends on Friday, October 9th, and answer any questions they may have regarding Sharron’s stance on the issues. Most phone calls I made were met with answering machines. I also got hung up on a lot, as can be expected when cold calling people at home. But all those misses were worth it when you get a “hit” – an undecided independent voter, providing the opportunity to discuss the issues.

I made six hundred phone calls that day, and am proud to say I believe I made more than a few converts. Unfortunately, as stated above, I also witnessed firsthand the damage that the liberal media can inflict. I spoke with a registered voter who said, “Angle? She’s with the Tea Party, right? They’re all just a bunch of racists!”

I was tempted to reply, “No, you’ve been misinformed. Why, Sharron’s husband is black!” but I doubted the campaign would share my sense of humor. I asked if she had ever been to a rally, and she said “No.”

“Then why do you think they’re racists?” I said.

“Because I saw it on TV.”

I pointed out the biased coverage of the networks, but there was no changing her mind – it was already perverted by the media. Sadly, she wasn’t the only voter I spoke with who had been indoctrinated. The mainstream media is attempting to shape the nation, not report on it. It’s our job to stop them. And we have to succeed, because the alternative is a government-run nanny state, exorbitant taxation and the loss of our personal freedom.

Success can be achieved. You just have to get involved. Now is not the time to sit on the sidelines – stand and be heard.

Vote.

Volunteer.

One person CAN make a difference, as I learned in my day at Sharron Angle’s headquarters. A hundred hangups and answering machines are well worth it when you reach that one undecided voter and get to point out the lies of the media, the lies in the campaign ads, when you’re able to educate a fellow citizen on the issues and convince him to listen to both sides of the debate and then make a well informed decision, knowing that when he does it will bring an end to the freedom-suffocating, tax-and-spend crazy, reckless regime of Obama, Reid, Pelosi and their ilk.

I made a difference in this campaign and I have never felt more patriotic in my life. It’s a feeling I highly recommend to you.

Hope and Change-up: Crowd roars its approval as George Bush throws out first pitch at World Series game

Wasn’t it nice to see an American president who doesn’t throw like a girl? One who wears man pants instead of mom pants? One who can hear the word strike without thinking of SEIU?

It was actually a fast ball down the middle of the plate, but we couldn’t resist the Hope and Change-up headline. Our apologies.

Seriously, though, wasn’t it nice to see an American president who doesn’t throw like a girl? One who wears man pants instead of mom pants? One who can hear the word strike without thinking of SEIU? One who throws from the right side instead of the left side (tell us there isn’t some major league symbolism in that).

Meeting Sharron Angle

Last week, while having lunch at a Chinese restaurant in Las Vegas, a woman walked in who looked like Sharron Angle. She was accompanied by only one person, and I thought, “Can’t be her, she would have more people around her.” Then…

Guest post by Sonny Palermo

In the past, I shrugged off my right to vote due to my disdain for politicians, joking that “It only encourages them to run.”  To my way of thinking, it didn’t matter which party was in office – Republican or Democrat – my life would not be changed.  At the end of the year I may have a few dollars more or less in my pockets, but overall my world was not greatly affected.

sharron angle grin
Sharron Angle's and her infectious "Cheshire Cat" smile

But I can no longer remain ambivalent about my right to vote. After spending most of 2008 and 2009 in Vancouver, BC, I returned to a country that I don’t even recognize. Too many of my friends and family are out of work. Too many of the principles that made America great are being eradicated by the current administration. The first two years of Obamanation have been a disaster.  Two more years of this socialist takeover and the damage may be irreversible. So this year, I vote.

Last week, while having lunch at a Chinese restaurant in Las Vegas, a woman walked in who looked like Sharron Angle. She was accompanied by only one person, and I thought, “Can’t be her, she would have more people around her.” Then I saw her smile that Chesire Cat grin and I knew it was her. More people arrived and joined her party as the restaurant scrambled to put tables together to accommodate them. Other diners began to ask to have their pictures taken with her, and she obliged.

As I was getting ready to leave, her husband walked past my table and I motioned him to come over for a minute. I told him I had just driven across the country from NJ to vote for Sharron, and I wished them success in the campaign. He wanted to call Sharron over but I stopped him, saying I didn’t want to interrupt her lunch. He said, “No, please, she is going to want to hear this” and he asked me to wait while he brought her over. When they approached, he asked, “Tell her what you just told me.”

And here’s the weird part – completely unexpected, totally out of nowhere, I was hit with a wave of patriotism like I had never felt before, and my voice faltered for a second. I came here to help her campaign and suddenly here I was, face to face with the woman who may very well be in the most important race of the midterms, the woman who is poised to remove one head of the hydra that is Obama-Reid-Pelosi. I told her I came all the way here from NJ, to vote for the very first time in my life. To vote for her.

And . . . she hugged me.

After I got over the initial shock I realized – this is the woman the left has smeared as “extreme and dangerous?”

Yeah, sure. Extremely grandmotherly, maybe.

Sharron and Ted Angle stayed with me for about five minutes, discussing politics and policy. She said part of the reason she made the decision to run for the senate was the same reason I was going to become a first time voter – she found that our country was becoming unrecognizable, and much of the fault lay with Harry Reid, architect of the Cornhusker kickback and all the backroom deals contrived to pass the calamitous Obamacare, and purveyor of the failed two billion dollar stimulus plan.

The Angles were gracious and kind, and Sharron was passionate about the issues affecting our country at this most unique moment in history. Before parting, I vowed to volunteer some of my time to work at their campaign headquarters, and they offered heartfelt thanks.

They left, after expressing gratitude to me for having shared my story with them.

I left, grateful that I had the opportunity to meet and speak with the next Senator from the (sometimes) great state of Nevada.
