This might be a precursor to Parkinsons or dementia on his part as well. I witnessed a neighbors father go downhill and as he slowly lost his mind, he became a groper. When we would visit, my wife would hug him and he would grab her butt. He would also try to grab his own granddaughter and any other female that he could get his hands on, literally. It was sad to see him go like that as we knew him for nearly 20 years. He was a rock solid guy, Air Force lifer and never missed watching his granddaughter’s swim meets. I’ll never forget watching his frustrated granddaughter throw a hard, well aimed side kick at him to keep him at bay. That was hard to watch because he really loved his family.

I don’t know about Parkinson’s. My dad had it and all he did was get the shakes. I never heard anything about that as a symptom. Dementia could be an explanation, but I’m betting on Demotardia as the most likely cause.

You guys are correct, it wasn’t Parkinson’s. He also had an issue with food. The daughter had to install locks on the food pantry and chain the refrigerator because he would eat everything if left to his own devices. In his last year, the daughter would have to introduce me to him every time I came over to visit. Once he was reminded who my wife was, he’d immediately light up and tell me how good the cheesecake he had at our house was! My wife gave him that cheesecake some ten years earlier. Sad.

The mother of the mother of my daughters had Alzheimers and they came to town shortly before the end. For some reason they wanted to visit me, which I thought was weird since I’d been divorced from their daughter for many years. Turned out the poor woman could remember me and loved reminiscing about all the good times we had, but couldn’t figure out who that “other guy” was, which was the guy her daughter was currently married to.

LOL. So that’s two stories of people who couldn’t remember anybody but me. I’m like a curse or something.

Or something…

Once they go into Dementia/Alzheimer’s, the only things they can remember are things from years back. Recent events are a blur, and they forget them quickly. They only seem to remember things they enjoyed, so your ex MIL must have liked you back in the day.

Yeah, I liked her, too–sweet and nice, and knock-down beautiful. Sometimes I used to think I married the wrong generation. During that lsat visit, she went for a walk from my ex’s house and didn’t come back. They had to call the police to help find her. Like you said, short-term memory wasn’t working and once she had walked a block she couldn’t remember how to get back. They weren’t expecting that because back at her own home in Georgia she could go for a walk and find her way back–her own neighborhood were older memories.

I agree, not necessarily about the specific diagnosis of Parkinson’s but about the fact that something age-related might be wrong with his mind. Like you, I saw a wonderful man get weird as he got old, grabbing women’s butts during hugs, etc. He was a wonderful guy with a wonderful wife but his mind betrayed him more and more as he got older until finally, at the end, he was just a vegetable–silent, not speaking at all. One of the last times he ever said something was to me, when I came back to Michigan after a long absence. His daughters brought him and his wife over to visit my parents and when I walked in he said, “Jim, how are you?” They said he hadn’t said a word in over a month at that point.

Not surprised. Dems just can’t keep their hands to themselves. Whether it’s picking our pockets or groping our women, children, parents, and pets, we need to take a page from Arab law, and start chopping of the offenders hand.

Strange, usually Democrats are more into pedophilia than gerontophilia. To each his own I suppose.

Somewhere in this story there’s a metaphor for Social Security.

He was just trying to keep abreast of her condition?
