Europe’s Light Bulb Gestapo wants you to rat out your neighbors

The global warming fanatics have won another round in the European Union. From September 1, it will be illegal to import conventional pearl or frosted bulbs of any shape or wattage into the U.K. and will send out “trading standard officers” to check.

When light bulbs are outlawed, only outlaws will have light bulbs.
When light bulbs are outlawed, only outlaws will have light bulbs.

The global warming fanatics have won another round in the European Union. Consider this frightening story from the Telegraph UK:

From September 1, it will be illegal to import conventional pearl or frosted bulbs of any shape or wattage. Traditional incandescent bulbs of 100 watts will also be banned under European law aimed at reducing energy bills and carbon dioxide emissions.

They will be replaced by energy saving lights, which usually use flourescent tubes, but it is thought some consumers will still prefer their ‘traditional’ bulbs, particularly for reading lamps.

There is evidence of people hoarding the old fashioned bulbs around Europe and enforcement agencies are ready to crack down on unscrupulous businessmen who continue to import the “illegal bulbs” from factories in China.

The story gets worse. Much worse. Great Britain will actually send out “trading standard officers” to make sure businesses aren’t selling any of the old-fashioned light bulbs people actually want. The public will also be encouraged to report anyone who has the temerity to sell illegal bulbs. Individuals who import the bulbs are subject to a £5,000 fine. And big companies can get nailed for even more.

This scares the hell out of Nigel Farrage, the leader of UKIP.

“Under this Government we begin to resemble East Germany in the 1980s where we snoop and report on local businesses,” he said. “No doubt the next move will be to snoop on your parents if they continue to use old fashioned light bulbs.”

We can foresee a future where small groups of people gather in dark living rooms around Great Britain and someone will say, “Let’s light one up.” But they’ll just be talking about illegal incandescent bulbs.

Greenpeace spokesman admits its story about melting Arctic ice doesn’t hold water

Gerd Leipold, the outgoing leader of Greenpeace finally admitted to BBC reporter Stephen Sackur that the organization may have made a bit of mistake when it claimed that Arctic ice will disappear by 2030.

Getting a member of Greenpeace to admit they flat out lied about the imminent disappearance of Arctic ice was tougher than drowning a polar bear.

Yet, after repeated questioning, Gerd Leipold, the outgoing leader of Greenpeace finally admitted to BBC reporter Stephen Sackur that the organization may have made a bit of mistake lied when it claimed that Arctic ice will disappear by 2030.

“I don’t think it will be melting by 2030…That may have been a mistake,” he said.

Weakening the organization’s credibility even further, Leipold admitted that Greenpeace is often guilty of “emotionalizing issues” in an attempt scare the hell out of people.

Then he got to the real heart of the matter – the only way to stop global warming is to destroy the American economy.

“We will definitely have to move to a different concept of growth…The lifestyle of the rich in the world is not a sustainable model,” Leipold observed. “If you take the lifestyle, its cost on the environment, and you multiply it with the billions of people and an increasing world population, you come up with numbers which are truly scary.”

Scary. Sort of like the phony story about the Arctic ice melting.

Latest laughable U.N. global warming claim: 50 million may be displaced by 2010

Koko Warner, a senior U.N. researcher at the loftily-named UN University Institute for Environment & Human Society, claims 25-50 million people will be become refugees as climate change unleashes more natural disasters and slashes farm output.

Quick. Call Bekins. Because a whole lot of people need to move in the next 16 months.

Koko Warner, a senior U.N. researcher at the loftily-named UN University Institute for Environment & Human Society, claims 25-50 million people will be become refugees as climate change unleashes more natural disasters and slashes farm output.

The Thaindian reports Koko’s dire predictions from the heart of the subcontinent:

“Climate change will displace 25-50 million people by next year. The situation will be the worst in the poorer countries.”

The Thaindian continued:

“Most people will seek shelter in their own countries while others (will) cross borders in search of better odds.

Global Warming Update
Season’s first three storms given incorrect names

The National Hurricane Center has named them Ana, Bill, and Claudette, but we think the names should be reconsidered. They should be AlGore, Barack and Carter. Here’s why.

Hurricanes - Week 11

It’s party time at Goracle HQ. Ten weeks and five days into hurricane season and we finally have the season’s first tropical storm. In fact, we have three of them at the same time.

The National Hurricane Center has named them Ana, Bill, and Claudette, but we think the names should be reconsidered.

The first storm of the season should have been named Algore instead of Ana. It started with lots of bluster and looks like it will eventually peter out in Florida.

The second storm should have been named Barack instead of Bill. It sprang to life somewhere far outside the United States, is marked by a lot of hot air, but doesn’t look like it’s really going to do very much. Nevertheless, it will dominate the television news.

Finally, the third storm should have been named Carter instead of Claudette. It came in from the south and proved to be far weaker than anyone ever anticipated.

Looking forward a few weeks, we anticipate Hurricane Hillary being a dark and angry storm, capable of inflicting major damage to anything in the path of its destruction.

Global Warming Update
Quietest start to hurricane season in 32 years

The 2009 hurricane season now qualifies as the quietest hurricane season in 32 years and the fourth quietest in the last 50 years. What happened to Al Gore’s global warming?

hurricane-season
Update: Excitement is running rampant at the Gore compound. We may be getting close to our first storm of the season. According to the National Hurricane Center, that orange #1 off the coast of Africa has a 30-50% chance of becoming a tropical storm during the next 48 hours. Would someone please inform Al Gore.

The suicide alert at Al Gore’s house has gone to Level Red. While the Goracle insisted that global warming would bring us more and more destructive hurricanes, the reality has been considerably different.

We’ve now completed the first ten weeks of 2009’s hurricane season and we’ve not yet had a hurricane. Nor a tropical storm. Nor a tropical depression.

Duh! U.S. forecasters finally get around to predicting mild Atlantic hurricane season

This is the quietest start to hurricane season in nearly two decades. The last time the first storm formed as late as August 5 was way back in 1992.

Ahhhh, this global warming feels great.
Ahhhh, this global warming feels great.

As we’ve been reporting every Monday morning, this is the quietest Atlantic hurricane season in years. So far we haven’t had a single tropical depression, storm nor hurricane.

So three months after issuing its last hurricane prediction, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration finally accepted reality and updated its 2009 forecast. Its new prediction is for a below-normal to near-normal season with seven to 11 named tropical storms. That’s down from a range of nine to 14 in the May forecast.

Global Warming Update
Nine weeks of hurricane season gone. We’ve had zip, zilch, zero. Which also describes Al Gore’s credibility.

Al Gore is a liar. A sad, pathetic liar who’s made a fortune playing Chicken Little on global warming. Nine full weeks into official hurricane season and no hurricanes, not even a tropical storm.

hurricane-center-map-week-nine Al Gore is a liar. A sad, pathetic liar who’s made a fortune playing Chicken Little.

Well, that pretty much sums it up. Nine full weeks into official hurricane season and the weather is determined to reveal the magnitude of Gore’s prevarications. 63 long, calm days deep into hurricane season and we’ve had not a single hurricane. Not a single tropical storm. Not even a single tropical depression.

In the record-setting year of 2005, we had already had eight storms by this date. In the remarkably quiet year of 2006, we’d had three. In the average year of 2007, we’d had three. And in the average year of 2008, we’d had five.

If Al Gore is feeling warmer, it’s only because his pet theory is going down in flames.

Cold cash cures global warming. Cool.

Every time we hear someone huckster bemoan the big bucks Exxon-Mobil pays to fund studies that debunk global warming, we wonder how much the government is spending to “bunk” the theory.

global warming spending world is cooling

Every time we hear some huckster bemoan the big bucks Exxon-Mobil pays to fund studies that debunk global warming, we wonder how much the government is spending to “bunk” the theory.

Finally, thanks to Aussie blogger Joanne Nova, all the numbers have been compiled in one handy, dandy report. It clearly demonstrates that Exxon’s dollars pale in comparison to what’s being spent by the American government’s global warming research machine.

Be prepared to be pissed off.

  • The US government has provided over $79 billion since 1989 on policies related to climate change, including science and technology research, foreign aid, and tax breaks.
  • Despite the billions: “audits” of the science are left to unpaid volunteers…
  • Carbon trading worldwide reached $126 billion in 2008. Banks are calling for more carbon-trading. And experts are predicting the carbon market will reach $2 – $10 trillion making carbon the largest single commodity traded.
  • Meanwhile in a distracting sideshow, Exxon-Mobil Corp is repeatedly attacked for paying a grand total of $23 million to skeptics—less than a thousandth of what the US government has put in, and less than one five-thousandth of the value of carbon trading in just the single year of 2008.

These charts clearly demonstrate an inverse relationship between money spent on global warming research and temperature. The more we spend, the lower temperatures go.

Liberals, of course, will undoubtedly consider this validation that their philosophy works.

Lack of crisis prompts Parade Magazine to invent next crisis: quality child care

Parade Magazine has found a new crisis: Child Care Crisis. It’s like global climate crisis and the health care crisis, but has cuter pictures of pensive-faced children on tricycles and sitting tragically near an abandoned Teddy Bear.

child-care-crisis-parade-magazine

With the U.S. trillions of dollars in debt and its future mandates for Social Security and other government-sponsored Ponzi schemes in the cool $100 trillion range, Parade Magazine has uncovered another crisis to fund it’s own lack of editorial initiative.

It’s like global climate crisis and the health care crisis, but has cuter pictures of pensive-faced children on tricycles and sitting tragically near an abandoned Teddy Bear (a symbol of lost childhood?).

That’s right, there’s now–cue timpani drums–a child care crisis!

And who could possibly solve this childcare crisis? (We need another drum roll.)

The U.S. government, that’s who.

Note how they add this little kicker in the article, like an IED (Improvised Editorial Device):

“In European nations, high-quality child care, especially for 3- to 6-year-olds, is seen as a right of citizenship. Governments view it as an investment in the nation’s future, and excellent facilities with top-notch care are plentiful.”

How, you may ask, can these countries afford to pay for this “top notch care?” Simple. They skimp on self-defense and rely on the evil United States military to protect their children while they’re receiving top-notch daycare.

Seven weeks into hurricane season: Where are the missing hurricanes?

Al Gore insisted that global warming would bring more and bigger hurricanes, more death, more distruction. Not in 2009.

hurrricane-forecast Today marks the beginning of the seventh week of the official hurricane season. Still no hurricanes, still no tropical storms, still no tropical depressions. The big news is a little cloudiness east of the Windward Islands (Yellow circle #1 on the chart).

In the record breaking 2005 season, we’d already had six storms. In the quiet 2006 season, we’d already had two. In the average 2007 season, we’d already had two. And in the average 2008 season, the fourth storm began a day from now.

Al Gore insisted that global warming would bring more and bigger hurricanes, more death, more distruction, more dislocation, more of everything bad and none of anything good.

We’re waiting, Al.

Al Gore rewrites history, London Times rewrites Al Gore

Al Gore compared the battle against climate change with the struggle against the Nazis, who are apparently today’s global warming realists.

Al Gore's vision of global warming realists
Al Gore's vision of global warming realists

What is it with newspapers named “The Times?” No mater where they may be located, they seem to do whatever necessary to support liberals. Even the Times of London is now marching in lockstep with the New York Times and the Los Angeles Times.

Al Gore was in England last week to issue his latest doom and gloom proclamation. The Times of London first reported his speech this way:

Al Gore today compared the battle against climate change with the struggle against the Nazis.

Nazis? Global warming realists are now like Nazis?

Five hours later, the Times story had magically been rewritten, the comparison of global warming realists to Nazis had been removed, and Gore had been recast to appear much more statesman-like:

Al Gore invoked the spirit of Winston Churchill today by encouraging political leaders to follow the example of Britain’s wartime leader and unite their nations to fight climate change.

Where’d those global warming Nazis go? Probably off to kill a few polar bears.

Global Warming Update: Hurricane season 2009 becoming a huge dud

Bad news for Al Gore and Global Warming alarmists: a light hurricane season had been forecast just a couple months ago. And it’s looking ligher.

hurricane-season-map3

A light hurricane season had been forecast just a couple months ago: “Citing cooler seas and the prospect of a weak El Nino, Colorado State University’s hurricane team lowered its 2009 Atlantic forecast Tuesday to 12 tropical storms, of which six could become hurricanes.”

Even that is now looking too extreme.

Here’s the scorecard a full six weeks into hurricane season 2009:

    Tropical depressions   zero
    Tropical storms          zero
    Hurricanes                 zero
    Major hurricanes        zero

Our forecast: Al Gore and his global warming acolytes will soon begin cranking up the “Yeah, but…” excuse machine.

The truth about Obama’s G8 global warming pact: It’s non-binding, India and China won’t sign it, Russia ignores it

President Obama’s G8 Global Warming Pact is non-binding. Got that? It’s non-binding. So non-binding, in fact, that Russia, which actually signed the treaty, has already said it has no intention of abiding by it.

Attendees at the recent G8 meetings in L'Aquila, Italy dined on polar bear tartare
Attendees at the recent G8 meetings in L'Aquila, Italy dined on polar bear tartare

This week, the global warming circus raised its tent at the G8 meetings in L’Aquila, Italy. According to the media, the world’s wisest leaders have saved the world by signing a new global warming pact.

Luckily, ABC News’ Jake Tapper cut through the crap and revealed a side of the story that’s absent from most reports and buried in others:

“The climate change provision sets a non-binding goal for a 50% reduction in greenhouse gases by 2050, using 1990 levels or later years as a base, with a goal for developed countries of 80%. The document pledges cooperation to limit the rise in global temperatures to no more than 2 degrees Celsius or 3.6 degrees Fahrenheit.”

“But achieving this is far more difficult than writing it on a piece of paper as a pledge, particularly with developing nations balking at the goal and complaining that the industrialized world hasn’t followed through with aid and technology to help them reduce greenhouse gas emissions.”

Got that? It’s non-binding. So non-binding, in fact, that Russia, which actually signed the treaty, has already said it has no intention of abiding by it.

Arkady Dvorkovich, the top economic advisor to Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said, “For us the 80 per cent figure is unacceptable and likely unattainable. We won’t sacrifice economic growth for the sake of emission reduction.”

He might as well have been speaking for India and China who aren’t G8 members and who have already said, “Thanks, but no thanks. We’re with Russia on this one.”

So on one hand, the solution to global warming was all smoke and mirrors. On the other hand, the leaders of the G8 did manage to have some very nice dinners and treated their bloated staffs to very nice Italian vacations.

Open thread: Cap and Trade Discussion

Nancy Pelosi, Al Gore and the House of Representatives have been quietly, but furiously trying to slip Cap- and-trade (formally called the American Clean Energy and Security Act) through this week before anyone notices. This will be the largest tax-increasing, economy-killing bill in United States history, all based upon the biggest scam in the history: Global Warming Climate Change.

House Democrats must be incredibly pleased that Michael Jackson’s death is now dominating the news, further obfuscating their attempt to pass this bill in the dark of night without hearing any GOP amendments.

This is such an important topic that we’re opening this thread so you can share your thoughts and provide whatever information you hear about Cap-and-Trade today. Include phone numbers of House members on the fence so others can call and help convince them to vote no. IHateTheMedia.com had over 10,000 visitors yesterday, so you can make a difference here.

Three Democrats tell the truth about cap-and-trade

Three Democrats, John Dingell, Charlie Melancon, Mike Ross, tell the truth about cap-and-trade energy tax bill for non-existent global warming and climate change.

John Dingell (D-MI) said H.R. 2454 is “a tax and it’s a great big one.”

Charlie Melancon (D-LA) said, “I believe this bill would create an undue burden on families who are already paying too much in energy bills.”

Mike Ross (D-AR) said, “‘If you don’t like $4-a-gallon gasoline, you’re really not going to like your electric bill sometime between now and 2030.”
