This entire situation with QE-2 is scaring the crap out of me. As to your yardstick for measuring success/respect? Let’s restate it: Large numbers of people that (apparently) respect him trumps the equally large numbers of people that clearly do not respect him. Your measure of respect being that it is a matter of numbers is humorous. Let’s see. I bet I can find about 15,000 people that respect me. I’m fairly popular. Since you as a normal human, probably can get 100 to respect you, I am now 150 time more respectable than you, using your own inescapable logic. Since the people that respect me would reasonably respect people I respect, and I respect Idaho2run, Idaho2run is 150.01 times more respectable than you.
Now, if it were additive, then since I disrespect you, Idaho2run would be 151.515151 times more respectable than you, as I do not respect you. I left the matter of whether or not Idaho2run respects you up to debate — maybe he knows something about you I do not. The real question is whether or not I say that advocates for social programs such as social security are communists. No, they are advocates for statism. The problem is that these social programs of necessity require the reduction of personal freedom, and result in the growth of the State as opposed to individual liberties. With every government handout, we wind up missing liberties as a necessary cost. These costs are subtle, and most people do not describe them well — if they apply the term ‘communism’ to them in a crude way to label them and generate opposition, I take it as evidence that they have a visceral understanding of the poison involved, and so it isn’t worth splitting hairs over.
What you refer to as a ‘safety net’ is the dimunition of free will over time, and the amassing of excess power at a central point. There’s not a dime’s worth of difference between the two parties in my perspective — the Republicans currently in office are only there on probation. At what point will the lack of Wii consoles become a safety net “necessity”? You might call that absurd or hyperbole, but many of the current safety net programs were just as inconceivable 50 years ago.
People are more subtle than a simple label will allow. Even (and actually more so in my experience, conservatives). As an example of subtle corruption, if you make it so the tax code favors one action, people will follow that action, even in direct contradiction to what their knowledge. Thus, we get people who ought to know better, like mortgage brokers and loan officers fiercely attached to a mortgage deduction that subsidizes excessive debt and makes the money supply (and housing market) explode.
The other programs have nasty side effects, and a dispassionate consideration of them has to include their side effects as well — the subsidization of a non-family environment for rearing children, penalties for marriage and rewards for cohabitation, and a general looseness towards money are just a few examples. Figure the money looseness this way. People cheerfully overspend using credit cards, where if they operated strictly from cash, they would save money. Why? Because in their mind, the connection between cash and credit isn’t as well defined — tomorrow’s credit card bill is too far off, and the gratification of having is too close.
When we are beneficiaries of charity from our fellows, whether it be a church or a mutual aid society, we attach a stigma to it, and as many as possible try to get off it as fast as possible, statistically speaking. This safety net compares poorly with a government safety net, which has no such stigma attached to it. (In fact, governments often advertise to reduce the stigma!) While you personally may have the best of intentions, and *never* seek to take advantage of the safety net, all too many statistically speaking do, and worse, people in positions of power do understand the side effects, and cynically make use of them for political gain. How else do you explain when charities handled the safety net in the latter part of the 19th century, there was lower incidence of poverty? Our current war on poverty has resulted in more, not fewer people below the poverty line. If they were serious about it, don’t you think it would be a good idea to re-evaluate the progress and make adjustments? Much like with the touted ‘war on drugs’, the act of politically pretending to care surpasses the need, requirement, and obligation to actually care.
A person can make the argument that the higher incidence of poverty currently lamented is caused by ‘raising the bar’ on what constitutes poverty — the bottom 10%, will, by definition, always be the bottom 10%. However, the people ‘raising the bar’ are doing so to justify an expansion of their social spending, and so paying them in kind for their intellectual dishonesty is fair game.
The sad fact is that people treat money coming from their government as if it came from Santa Claus, instead of from the pockets of their neighbors, the actual source. Without competition to hold government accountable, the costs explode, and so, rather than simply paying the cost of these social programs plus administrative costs, we pay exponentially higher fees.
What government manager is going to turn money back into the general fund, when success in either administration is measured in head counts and budgets, and promotions awarded accordingly? The answer to their failures, we are told, is *more*, not less governmental intervention.
So, to reiterate, calling social spending ‘communism’ is reductio ad hitlerum, while the issue of social spending itself is a simple non sequitur. It just doesn’t follow that a government incapable of restraining itself can restrain itself. Saying that the answer to the results of the government’s lack of restraint is greater freedom to act without restraint is such an obvious abuse of an electorate that the reductio ad hitlerum pales in comparison.
If calling it that results in bringing excess government spending under control, I’m perfectly fine calling it that. I’d call it ‘tuna on rye’ if I seriously thought it would make people think about it.

I am not weak, I am not stupid, and while I may not be a multimillionaire, I never lied and scammed people to get what money I have; I worked for it, plain and simple. No drug use, ever.
Career military 20+ years. Held Top Secret clearances. Spent several tours in Iraq over the last few years, in Combat Arms.
Trained and served in Special Operations for a while. Have 7 military job descriptions, (MOS, AFSC, RATE,etc)
Have martial arts belts.
Served as a civilian police officer for years.
Born and raised in this country and have a valid, certified birth certificate.
Raised playing sports, am actually good at some.
No associations with convicted felons, marxists, career criminals, pedophiles, and other lunatics.
My family takes care of one another, no illegal aliens in this brood, nor anyone in my family living in poverty without assistance.
Worked at productive real jobs since age 13. Never a community organizer.
I don’t care about fame, fortune or making a name for myself. I care about the above stated items, selfless service and taking care of friends and family to the best of my ability.
I am told I have the respect of my friends, co-workers and family.

I will not bow down to another human being… respect him perhaps depending on the situation, but not bow down nor worship nor place all of my faith and hopes in him. It will be all for nothing. In all seriousness, if you can look at that picture and not say to yourself “he looks like a sissy”, then you really are on the wrong website. I think Chris Matthews has a blog for people like that.
Do I think the picture makes a statement about his character? Hell, no. Nobody here is that shallow. You know that — you just wish that we could show him more respect. So do we, actually. It is just that we cannot respect the unrespectable.
I think his actions make all the statement about his character needed for me to dislike him intensely. If you are looking at him as an ‘action hero’, then you’re on the wrong blog unless you want to either flame or be flamed. You won’t convince any of the regulars that we ought to like or respect him, unless you have compelling information that he is some kind of closet conservative, with some super secret plan to shrink government through the demolition of the Democratic party.
(Then again, judging by what happened last Tuesday, maybe…)
So, will I make fun of this picture? Hell yes, it’s a howler. Will I make fun of what he says? Hell yes, I think 90% of what comes out of his mouth is either garbage or a lie. So much material to ridicule, so little time. If you want a simple summary of what I think of the man, if he came by my place with 12 pounds of steak, and a case of Guinness, expecting to barbecue with me, the first words out of my mouth would be “get the hell off my lawn, or I’ll call the cops.” No ‘beer summit’ for me.

Getting this fired up over a blog having a laugh over a stupid picture does speak volumes for where you stand on the political spectrum. If this was a picture of Hitler or Bush looking goofy I’d bet the farm we never would have heard from you.
Your analogy using mothers and blowjobs was, quite simply, vile and disgusting. Your point could have been made in a much more civil fashion. You chose the arena for your argument and now you claim to not understand the backlash? Either you are very clever or very immature; but the nature of your statement was clearly meant to stir things up. The only reason someone would go to a conservative web site to stir things up is because they probably lean a bit to the left.
As for the “Borg” same think – from this side of the curtain it certainly looks so. Like I said in another post, this is a blog where the blog writers can do whatever they like AFTER ALL it is a free country, with that said you can agree or disagree with their post, HOWEVER one thing the blog writers are not doing is MAKING YOU read it. So if you read it and you are offended, you are welcomed not to come back. If you go to KOS or to Media Matters (and others) you will find SIMILAR or even WORST posting, pictures of conservatives/republicans/anti-liberal people in it. I am quite sure it is quite possible that you do not find anything wrong with that. If you do great, but I am thinking not based on your stance.
Now the point is that in the end if those other people want to do similar or worst postings about people they hate or dislike THEY CAN DO IT. I don’t have to read it, I don’t have to participate one way or another. If I choose to be offended, then I should be ready for people letting me know in one way or another that this or that site is not for me and that I should leave. A picture (unless backed by other evidence) does not.”The issue is that using Mothers and fellatio was not an intelligent point of view nor argument. There was nothing there to compare to Obama about because it is not an equal situation. You could have used another public figure of similar or equal standing as Obama to make whatever point you were trying to make. Using Mothers and linking them to sexual things was disgusting and insulting and I find it surprising that you don’t understand that nor see that nor find it necessary to apologize to people about that… it tells me a lot about you.
As far as making judgements upon someone based on a picture… there are others… but whatever lets concentrate on this one. There is a thing called body language which DOES express what someone is more than likely thinking and emoting with their bodies so in many ways it can be used as a matter of judgement upon the state of mind of the person and what the person is all about. Now in this case it shows that Michelle is enjoying the situation whereas Obama is recoiling. It is possible to make judgements and jokes UPON a public person based on that. Also CONSIDERING previous pictures AND coupling them with previous videos and statements. It may not necessarily mean that he is gay, but the possibility can be discussed. It is also a joke… you know what a joke is right? You can OF COURSE disagree but again staying Obama focused whereas insulting Mothers and posters is not good form.
