Why do city dwellers tend to be leftwing Democrats? Urban cocoons: urbanites “have forgotten that mankind’s natural state is poverty and that strenuous, heroic efforts are required to produce the astounding affluence and abundant paraphernalia of our modern, affluent lifestyles. To use Marxian terminology, urbanites have become alienated from economic reality.” Obama is working on fixing that… Twinkies are just the beginning.

cuz they ain’t got the sense God gave a goose, nor can they farm, ranch, fish, critically analyze nor take care of themselves neither can they conceive of actually producing anything of use to anybody.
(generally speaking)

Having lived a the middle of a big city while going to school, I couldn’t wait to get out of there. OTOH, most of the lefties seem to really love it. All your needs are right there at hand – usually within walking distance. You have to make few decisions about your life because it’s already set up and you can’t change it. Something which liberals love.

If I had a time machine, I’d go back to 1860 and pass a constitutional amendment that cities can not have more than 200,000 people, tops.

I’d have to take issue with one part of what you say — Yes, all your needs are at hand, but I suggest that gives far more choices. Really, there are probably more restaurants in Manhattan than all of Iowa. If anything, this works the other way towards creating a sort of entitlement mentality, and it is the rurals who are much more limited in their choices (“We play country AND western!”).

To be sure, city-dwellers can be almost as insular and provincial in their own way as any Rube Appleknocker — I’m sure we’ve all seen the famous “New Yorkers’ Map of the World” with Manhattan occupying 3/4 of the globe. Reminds me of a gag, can’t think of the name of it now but Sinatra had a radio show where he’s a kind of down-and-out-er always barely within the right side of the law while murders are going on. One episode the rodeo comes to NY, and Sinatra says he was born out west. When one the cowboys questions this, he replies in all seriousness, that he was born on 10th Avenue — that’s about as far west as you can get or you’ll be in the Hudson River!

Except that Sinatra was born much further west than that, he’s from Hoboken NJ!

And with all those restaurants, most of the apartments hve no cooking facilities, so they don’t even learn to feed themselves the stuff in a grocery!

One of the problems with these urban bed wetters is they have spent most of their lives living in a virtual prison state to begin with.

Why do city dwellers tend to be leftwing Democrats?

Simple, the cities are where the arts thrive, the best paying jobs are, the liberal elitiests gather to find each other, and the takers can have access to anything they need without having to travel too far.

It’s easier to provide freebies to people grouped closely together. That’s why “the Projects” were formed. Tighten up that plantation. Don’t try to escape, you’ll be labeled an Oreo.

And their social workers can visit 50 recipients in a day because they all live in the same building.

If you took them out of the city, took away their foreign cars, foo foo coffees, their fancy food stores, and all the rest of their shit, they would fail to survive for more than a day….They are the weaklings that can not survive without help…they just pretend they know everything when most of them could not find a way to open a can without instructions, a dvd, and their redneck neighbors help…

You’re right, just look at how all the city dwellers fared after Sandy. They had no lights, heat, or water for a couple weeks and they would have all starved and froze to death if someone else didn’t help them. They had absolutely no idea what to do.

They couldn’t even figure out to leave, even though they had PLENTY of time to do so. If you want to look at it from this angle, look at New Orleans.

Thought about this quite a bit over the years. Their environment explains a lot IMO. In a city environment all is provided for you. You do very little yourself other than pay money. Your landlord or city officials do all of that for you. Building something or fixing something, making things work – that is for your landlord and government to do. All your free time is spent on relationships and entertainment, and this stuff is really important to them. This is a reason why Obama did so many of the entertainment shows. He was pandering to these type of voters.

Those that prefer this lifestyle are insulated from the critical thinking and problem solving skills required to function when solutions rely on the individual. If some need arises, city people reflexively believe government should provide it. Their function is only to pay money for the service. Republicans sell the opposite of this and it is for this reason their message does not resonate well in cities.

Another thing it explains is guns. Why do people need guns in a city? There is nowhere to shoot or hunt. So they believe no one should have a gun but the police.

So I believe people with this “I want to be taken care of” mindset gravitate toward cities so they can keep their minds free of what they consider hard or menial thinking. They vote democrat because democrats promise to take care of them and that’s what they want.

Good point. Most city dwellers would be confused if they needed to change a lightbulb, much a washer in a faucet.
Meanwhile, I can gut and rebuild a bathroom in 3-4 weeks, by myself!

I’ve been asking the question for decades. Do useless people tend to gather in cities, or does city life cause people to become useless?

Here’s another contributing factor: People are crowded in cities. Like the proverbial sheeple. To stay there, they must be comfortable to be part of the crowd. Whatever it is in their psychological makeup that allows them to be comfortable in crowds, must also have some bearing on their willingness to FOLLOW the crowds. Liberals have taken advantage of that for years. They strike cities with surgical precision, and then let the ideas flow outward.

For example, there is no coincidence that all of the “progressive” ideas stem from Chicago. The US Socialist party, the Communist party, even the first Muslim stronghold in the US all came from Chicago. As did Saul Alinsky, and Al Capone. They are NOT completely separate entities. They all fed off of each other and their methods and tactics. And it was easy for these groups to prosper there, because the people were already used to it, from the other groups and “leadership”. It started small, and gradually became the bastion of anti-Americanism and corruption that it is today.
