Your tax dollars at work: “Blow his mind with a classic blowjob”

by editor on February 15, 2011

California Polytechnic University, more affectionately known as Cal Poly, is located here in lovely San Luis Obispo, California, intergalactic headquarters of IHateTheMedia.com.

We picked up a copy of the school newspaper, The Daily Mustang The Mustang Daily, at newspaper rack the other day and got a lesson in how our tax dollars are being spent.

Your tax dollars at work: "Blow his mind with a classic blow job"

A special Valentine’s Day article was headlined “Blow his mind with a classic blowjob.”

The story noted that the writer “Caitlyn Harkins is an English sophomore, Mustang Daily copy editor and sex columnist.” Some of Harkins’ other masterpieces include “A look at nature’s Rubik’s Cube: the clitoris,” “For your viewing pleasure: a closer look at porn” and “Spice up your vocabulary with dirty talk.

We’re pretty sure that Catilyn’s column makes her a very popular girl and that she rarely spends a Friday night home alone. But we’re far less confident that California taxpayers would consider a hardcore sex advice column in a college newspaper to be a reasonable use of their hard earned-money. Is this really the kind of journalism training we expect from a major university?

That being said, IHateTheMedia.com does have an internship available, Caitlyn.

So…., is this Caitlyn Harkins a classicly trained girl or a wannabe? FYI for Caitlyn; if you are cute then turn on the lights and let the guy watch, if you are ugly, do him a favor and turn off the lights.

What do walking a tight rope and getting a ‘classic blowjob’ from Caitlyn Harkins have in common?

DO NOT LOOK DOWN!!

So, just curious, how’s the “internship” idea going over with Mrs. Administrator and Mrs. Editor?

Mr Administrator, You’re the victim of Liberal rule #1. Attack the source when the facts are inconvenient.

I’m sure her dad is proud.

What makes a person a “sex expert” anyway? Because guys always let her gobble their knobs and say it feels good? Hint: we always say that because it increases the chance of getting one in the future AND a bad BJ is better than none.

Good lord.

There’s no such thing as a bad BJ.

Willing to throw myself into the research project, Professor Hotness. Just don’t put me in the control group.

This article’s premise is completely flawed, but maybe that’s why you aren’t a journalist. Columnists for the MD are not paid for their work, therefore no taxpayer money is going to produce a sex column. But if we’re on the subject you might want to check out… oh I don’t know, every other public university’s newspaper website.

Administrator
Admin

Sorry TJ on the BJ article. The CSU system in California is funded by tuition and taxpayer dollars. That’s what pays for the journalism department and the Mustang Daily printing costs. If there were no Cal Poly, there would be no Mustang Daily. Her status as paid or unpaid is immaterial.

TJ
Guest

Wrong again, the MD sells advertising and maintains itself that way. Thanks for playing. If you don’t want to support the MD, then don’t go to the places that it sells advertisements to. That’s how the free-market works… Thought you conservatives were pros at that.

Administrator
Admin

Again, you miss the point. The small amount of money the ads bring in do not pay for the everything that goes into the publishing of MD. I used to be a print publisher, I know the costs.

Thanks for playing.

There is no free market anywhere in the public education system.

Have you got a “stress reliever” pad taped you your wall? You know, so you know where to bang your head to relieve the stress that comes from trying to educate really dumb people? Try one, they help!

TJ

Don’t let the facts get in the way of your opinion. The Mustang Daily, in fact, does pay for basically everything. But, I guess that’s why you’re a blogger.
Also let me give you a lesson in the free market. You don’t agree with what the MD publishes (which it has a right to do). Ads bought by local businesses finance the MD. Local patrons finance those businesses. If you don’t want your money printing the MD, then don’t go to those businesses. Glad we cleared that up, as this subject has nothing to do with public education.
Again, thanks for making yourself look silly, not that your readers will notice.

JPTravis

Are you serious? Major newspapers like the New York Times and Boston Globe can’t make enough money to support their costs, and you think a college newspaper is self-supporting?

Oh wait, you said “basically everything.” I get it now. You know you’re wrong, so you’re going to take the cowardly way out with pusilanimous backsliding and vague statements instead of just admitting anything. Good move.

TJ
Guest

No, I just didn’t want to put too many numbers in my post and confuse y’all. The MD pays for 95 plus percent of it’s costs and that is a fact. The scale of a college newspaper and a national one is far different, it’s apples to oranges.
Where are you getting your facts? Sounds like you’re using Stephen Colbert’s gut method. I, in fact, went to the source. Thanks for allowing me to clarify.

Fine, TJ. You know printing, employee, UI, medical, insurance, office, regulatory, legal and accounting costs, plus the these-days heavily discounted local ad rates, better than a 15 year founder of international publishing empire I owned and sold. I give up, You win. I’m done.

TJ

Nope I don’t. I just asked, unlike you.

One last comment, which I brought up earlier and have to repeat to you. You are not counting the cost of the journalism dept and all the other benefits of being part of the school, without which the paper would not exist, and could not exist profitably.

Regardless, it’s content unfit for a school paper.

JPTravis

You “asked.” You “asked” the numbnuts at the college newspaper and they said they pay for 95% of their costs. I would laugh if the stupidity wasn’t so painful to watch. Did the college newspaper know how much their building cost to build? Did they have any idea what their utility bills amount to? How much their equipment cost and their legal insurance adds to the university’s bill? Their labor is free but did they count the publicly-funded scholarships and taxpayer-financed student loans which allow their free labor to matriculate? Get a clue.

The entire concept of “liberal-ism” is based on ad hominem.
Its the number one resource of the liberal movement.
Without it Obama would never have become president and liberal-ism would have died out in the 60s.

“Barack Obama’s Safe Schools Czar Kevin Jennings founded the Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network (GLSEN) in 1990. In 2007 Kevin Jennings was paid $273,573.96 as the executive director of GLSEN. Recently he was appointed by the Obama administration to run the Office of Safe and Drug Free Schools in the US Department of Education”

Since she talks like Whoppi; maybe she looks like Whoopi. Which means, she probably does sit at home alone on Friday nights.

Your article is three paragraphs of introduction and two paragraphs of ad hominem. You may have legitimate critiques of the article and it’s content, but you have failed to address any of them.

Arlan
Guest

oh come on, this is a column that points out media screwups and make fun of them. It doesn’t seriously try to address any of them. That’s for us to do. lol

M G

I fail to see how this is an example of a media screwup. Media screwups are when a newspaper or television reporter reports one thing, but the reality is different. Media Matters does this pretty well, and although I’m not as familiar with the watchdogs for liberal/left news sources I know I’ve seen good examples of people calling out bad reporting on CNN before.

I’m well aware that Media Matters has a strong liberal/left bias. It’s irrelevant to the point I’m trying to make, which is that there is no “screwup” here that I can see. It’s an article that you disagree with, not an article that has demonstrably false statements.

Can you show me what statements were false in the article?

Administrator

Uh, who made a rule that we can only talk about media screwups? Not us.

MG,I can’t speak for anyone else, but this doesn’t seem to be a criticism of journalistic failure, at least not from my perspective. It is, however, a focused view of societal failure. You are correct when you say that the article is not factually flawed and therein lies the failure. If the article was factually incorrect, we could just consider it the fantasies of an excessively hormonal teen girl, but instead we have a young girl who appears to be well versed in the ways of an experienced porn star and that is where the true failure lies.

I see where you’re coming from. Have a thumbs up on me.

Are you as dim witted as you sound here? Or, are you a pubic skool teacher? Either way, you do not know how to read or comprehend what you read. The whole point in pointing out the useless use of the taxpayers money is clearly printed in the last paragraph of the story.

“Is this really the kind of journalism training we expect from a major university?”
No.

Expect? Actually, Yes.

When the most populated cities in the country are nothing more than clones of Sodom and Gomorrah and society does nothing to retard the behavior, but REQUIRES by law that we accept them as “normal”

YES, that is exactly what we SHOULD expect!

It’s Mustang Daily, for future reference.

“We’re pretty sure that Catilyn’s column makes her a very popular girl and that she rarely spends a Friday night home alone.”

I don’t think that I would automatically agree with that statement. Remember the old saying…”Those who can, do. Those who can’t, teach.”

That and most people who claim to know so much about sex usually look like Helen Thomas.

whiskeyriver

Who cares what she looks like. The kind of sex she is talking about does not involve having to look at her face as long as she is “giving face”!

You guys are very sly and cunning with your subliminal references here on IHTM and that’s one reason I do all my shopping here. Internship, eh? Sounds pretty lofty for Caitlyn’s little man in the boat.

I remember another “internship” that had dire results! Ya’ll know why Bill Clinton quit playing the saxaphone? He decided he liked the hormonica instead!

I was born about 40 years to early. If I had been born later I would now be able to get laid by my English teacher. I would be able to walk up to any chickadee on campus and ask “Have you read this weeks edition of our local rag”? Judging by her answer I might be able to talk her into getting our “heads” together and talk about it!

Exactly. I wouldn’t want my tax dollars paying even in a small way this type of “journalism”. It is disgusting and low class for so call higher education.

KimmyQueen

So the three morons who gave me a thumbs down you want your tax money to go towards paying for this low class “journalism”? Really? You must have serious cash…

Can I have some? Don’t be selfish. Share the wealth.

You ever notice that those that love to give a thumbs down rating on a post never explain why they disagree with you?

TY! Exactly. If I do a thumbs down and do not explain is because the responses have been sufficient in my opinion otherwise I make sure to put a reason why.
