Castro says Cuban economic model doesn’t work anymore. Did it ever?

by editor on September 9, 2010

It’s taken 50 long, tyrannical years, but Fidel Castro has finally been slapped up the side of the cabeza with a long-missing dose of reality.

The Marx Brothers are finally figuring out that their economic models don't work

The Associated Press has news of the aging Communist’s moment of clarity:

Fidel Castro told a visiting American journalist that Cuba’s communist economic model doesn’t work, a rare comment on domestic affairs from a man who has conspicuously steered clear of local issues since stepping down four years ago.

The fact that things are not working efficiently on this cash-strapped Caribbean island is hardly news. Fidel’s brother Raul, the country’s president, has said the same thing repeatedly. But the blunt assessment by the father of Cuba’s 1959 revolution is sure to raise eyebrows.

Jeffrey Goldberg, a national correspondent for The Atlantic magazine, asked if Cuba’s economic system was still worth exporting to other countries, and Castro replied: “The Cuban model doesn’t even work for us anymore” Goldberg wrote Wednesday in a post on his Atlantic blog.

He said Castro made the comment casually over lunch following a long talk about the Middle East, and did not elaborate. The Cuban government had no immediate comment on Goldberg’s account.

News of the future: August 12, 2060 (Dateline, Chicago): Former President Barack Obama today admitted that his economic model doesn’t work anymore.

Marxist economic model and central planning don’t work? Duh….It took him 50+ years to figure that out? What was his first clue?

Oh. Well. That takes care of it. Just say “I was wrong.” Never mind the millions in misery and nobody knows how many killed — it was just an honest mistake.

An honest mistake the first time, but when Obama wants to make the same mistake again, that’s not an honest mistake. That’s deliberate destruction.

The one in the middle I recognize as Dummo a cheap replacement for Harpo. Harpo used to play the harp beautifully. Dummp only plays golf and goes on vacations.
