With a straight face, Nancy Pelosi says, “Unemployment checks are the fastest way to create jobs”

by editor on July 2, 2010

Wow. Just wow. Nancy Pelosi on Thursday made herself the odds on favorite to win the award for “Stupidest Quote of 2010.” We realize we’re only half way through the year, but this one is going to be tough to beat.

In the words of Gateway Pundit, “Only a government bureaucrat would think paying someone for not working is a job creator.”

NOTE: As a result of the Botox injections, Nancy says everything with a straight face. So there is a possibility that she was making a joke, but no one could tell. One can only hope.

If ever there could be a better example of why term limits are needed, she is the perfect example, I see no mention of her 5 million a year for her private jet (thank you tax payers) let this idiot live on unemployment! in a real world she could not get a job making snow cones at the county fair!

Congressional Reform Act of 2010

1. Term Limits.
12 years only, one of the possible options below..

A. Two Six-year Senate terms
B. Six Two-year House terms
C. One Six-year Senate term and three Two-Year House terms

2. No Tenure / No Pension.

A Congressman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they are out of office.

3. Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security.

All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the American people.

4. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans do.

5. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.

6. Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the American people.

7. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people.

8. All contracts with past and present Congressmen are void effective 1/1/11.

The American people did not make this contract with Congressmen. Congressmen made all these contracts for themselves.

Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, serve your term(s), then go home and back to work.

This is awesome Thomas. Only a serious person with tremendous gall will bring this up though.

Every time I hear this women talk I just shake my head, I shake it even harder when I see the people behind her nodding off to sleep. The only reason I can figure that she has her position is because of her wealth, she just appears soooo dimwitted.

Do any of you think that she may be sleeping wtih garafalo? No one can be that stupid….well, perhaps they are…. they are two perfect examples of the ignorance running rampant in our country today….and thanks to the liberal public school system. Ain’t it grand!

Well all pork and entitlements were/are enacted just to buy votes. It’s just that people finally realized whose money was being spent. (their own)

We owe Pelosi a debt of gratitude.
Her arrogance showed us how the “tolerant” liberals REALLY feel about the people of this nation.

How in the world do these people keep getting re-elected into office? Never mind, if I seen the voters that pull the lever for these clowns, I’d probably crap my pants with fear.

For twenty five years I worked as an artist for a company that did high end commercial paint jobs and murals. 28 months ago I was layed off due to no work. I took a job driving a truck and am still driving that truck. I drive the truck every day because I have a family to support…I would give anything to have my old job back, but with the economy the way it is, well, you know the rest. My point? I could sit on my ass and wait for that well paying artistic job to come around while collecting unemployment and use the excuse that the economy sucks and the government owes it to me…however, I choose to be productive and not strain the system because of my ego or flat out laziness. There are jobs out there, they just might not be the “dream” job one is looking for. Someday, I will work as an artist again but, for now, it’s the flatbed. My apologies for the lengthiness of this diatribe, but I am just sick and tired of the peeps out there who think they are “entitled” to benefits and this freakin’ Congress who feed into it.

chillie willie,
It looks like you are not a fan of the “entitlement” mindset that is running this country into the ground. Just think of the values you are modeling to your family. The best to you and your family.

Congrats on finding something Chillie, my husband just went back to work thanks to BP. Yep, he is working on the oil spill. Home 2 weeks, gone 2 weeks. He is making about half of what he was making but we are grateful.

Just another pearl of Democrat hypocrisy. If I heard her correctly she said people want to work, not just get the checks, because it’s the American way.

Why then does the Democrat party create and pay the “plantation population” in the inner cities, other than to maintain a large voting base?

Ain’t a whole lotta workin’ goin’ on if them checks be comin’ in regular. Them Democrats be lookin’ out fo’ us po’ folk. They’s got my vote. Believe her argument is that the unemployment monies are used immediately. (i.e. and prop up our economy, I guess) Just like the census workers are propping up the national unemployment figures. The real one is close to 20% unemployment if everyone who is looking and everyone who GAVE up looking for a job is counted.

Trinity, your point is well taken. Most people don’t look for work while on unemployment benefits….why bother, if you can live on the unemployment money alone? People will look for work when they are hungry enough, I believe is the adage.
When you are hungry or trying to feed your children, you generally don’t have a lot of pride. You will pretty much work at anything.

It is disgusting that this government believes that unemployment benefits are the way to a healthy economy. What stupid people they are to be running the greatest country in the world!

IDIOTS!!!

It has been my observation that a significant number of people don’t even bother to seriously look for work, until their unemployment is about to run out. Giving anyone more than 52 weeks of benefits is ridiculous. Now, they
are getting 99 weeks of benefits and claiming they still can’t find a job. If you can’t find some kind of job in 6 months, you ain’t really looking for one. Cut off the money and people will start taking the first job they are offered. That is what it is about…giving you spending money until you find “a job,” not a job just like you had or an even better one.

As I said in facebook, I love my country, but hate my government. These idiotic baboons couldn’t solve a simple math problem, even if the answer was provided. I have zero faith in this administration to fix anything. Their idea of fixing the gulf oil spill is to rape BP’s financials. While I agree BP should pay restitution, I think the priority should be enabling BP to fix it’s mistake, and for the US Government to realize IT too holds blame, allowing them to circumvent safety protocols.

Once again, this government is the blind leading the blind, with the masses of sheeple following along like everything is merry and okay.

The only thing dumber than this “person” and her drivel is the people that continue to elect her. The IQ in her district must be single digits.

KimmyQueen

Uhm. That makes no sense. If a person is unemployed and they are getting these checks they probably need every penny so they are probably not employing gardners or a maid or a nanny. They could use the funds to pay into a business for services but that is pretty much cost of life so it is not really creating jobs. Weird.

Actually, if she’s to win the “Stupidest Quote” award, she has to compete with her own statement “We have to pass the bill so we can find out what’s in it.” This might split the vote and she’ll lose to someone else.

Happens at the Oscars a lot when an artist is nominated twice and wins nothing.

Like a lot of moronic politicians, she’s bereft of common sense. Unemployment compensation is like letting your 35-year old kid live at home and giving them an allowance.

@ray,

spoken like someone that has never been fired from a job, due to no fault of your own(layoffs, lack of business etc), which is the only way u can get unemployment insurance…Trust me as someone unemployed AND looking for almost three months, business owners LOVE this economy, they can get the best of the best for dirt cheap!..

So to people that have been unfairly terminated or laid off due to plant closing, how do u propose they pay their bills?(just barely), or buy beloved Gas to go job hunting? believe u me, unemployment doesnt give much and compared to earning a REAL paycheck it BLOWS….STOP turning the unemployed into the NEWEST SCAPEGOAT!!!

At the time of 9/11, I was a stay at home mom and my husband was self employeed. After 9/11 work dried up and because my husband was self employeed, he didn’t qualify for unemployment. We went 18 months with no income, just living off of our personal savings until he finally found a job. That’s how it used to be before FDR’s new deal. Having “safty nets” changes peoples behaviors. They take more risks, don’t save for tomorrow’s emergancies because the government will take care of it at tax-payers expence. People don’t seem to realize that it is a false sense of security. Look where such policies have left te nation as a whole. Deep in debt and no way to ever get out of it with out ending such entitlements. Such policies leave us dependent on government. I, for one would rather be self reliant, independent and am willing to accept personal responsibility formy own choices and actions. That is the only way to truly be free.

Just a side note. Everything has changed since then… I am working 3 part time jobs just to make ends meet and not go into debt. Hopefully, I will be made full-time in my job at the hospital so I can at least quit one of those jobs because I am exausted. BUT STILL…whatever it takes for my family.

No doubt, once they’ve driven the current system to collapse, The Govt. can FINALLY begin the process employing EVERY citizen.

Ever since the Russian Spy scandal broke, I’ve had this heightened odd feeling that somehow we’re all being manipulated by a Communist 3rd Party. Beyond George Soros and Andy Stern et al… It feels like the Old Russian guard is at it again.
Like they are trying to set the US up for a fall. And what better way than the same traps that brought them to their knees. Communists figure ‘All these old soviet-style political traps laying around, and our people are already wise to them. Such a shame and a waste, why don’t we send them to the US?’

Call me crazy, but these are heady times.

neo, this is exactly what is happening. liberalism/progressivism has ALWAYS led to some sort of communist/fascist endgame. History is very clear on this, and it boggles the mind that anyone would want to do this, especially in America. The fact that any of these people, in congress, the adminstration, or other fools like stern could call themselves intellects is an insult to America and her people.

We have no choice but to stand up, or let this country die like has happened throughout history….
