Mexico’s unemployment rate is now 4.9 percent, compared with 9.4 percent joblessness in the United States.
An estimated 300,000 undocumented immigrants have left California since 2008, though the remaining 2.6 million still make up 7 percent of the population and 9 percent of the labor force, according to the Public Policy Institute of California.
… The best-paid jobs for undocumented migrants are in the building industry, “and because of the severe crisis in the construction business here, their first response has been to move into the service industry,” González Gutiérrez said. “But that has its limits. Then, they move to other areas in the U.S. to find better jobs — or back to Mexico.”
If this trend continues, how long will it be before Americans start sneaking across the border in search of jobs in Mexico?

In his last minutes, Humberto Leal repeatedly said he was sorry and accepted responsibility.
“I have hurt a lot of people. … I take full blame for everything. I am sorry for what I did,” he said in the death chamber.
“One more thing,” he said as the drugs began taking effect. Then he shouted twice, “Viva Mexico!”
“Ready warden,” he said. “Let’s get this show on the road.”
He grunted, snored several times and appeared to go to sleep, then stopped all breathing movement. The 38-year-old mechanic was pronounced dead at 6:21 p.m., 10 minutes after the lethal drugs began flowing into his arms.
Our congratulations to the state of Texas for taking this step toward lowering global warming. As of 6:21 Thursday night he will no longer spew any noxious CO2 into the atmosphere.

Thinking wistfully of the DREAM Act, Dick Durbin said that a young person who’s an illegal alien today could someday become president.
Maybe there’s just no need to actually learn what the Constitution says when you’re going to ignore it anyway. That’s the only explanation we can think of to explain Democrat Dick Durbin’s comment in a congressional hearing Tuesday.
Thinking wistfully of the DREAM Act, he said that a young person who’s an illegal alien today could someday become president.

Dick, buddy, the Constitution expressly prohibits aliens from becoming president. Except for the clause that says Barack Obama is an exception to the rule.

“Fast and Furious” is the moniker for the Obama administration program that purposely released hundreds of sophisticated rifles, handguns and other weapsons to members of the Mexican drug cartels in an effort to link their users to crimes.
“ATF agents have shared chilling accounts of being ordered to stand down as criminals in Arizona walked away with guns headed for Mexican drug cartels,” Issa said. “With the clinical precision of a lab experiment, the Justice Department kept records of weapons they let walk and the crime scenes where they next appeared. To agents’ shock, preventing loss of life was not the primary concern.”
The DOJ sells guns to drug gangs while simultaneously suing states trying to intercept them at the border. Sounds like a movie plot about a cop on the take.

That’s because the agency responsible for keeping the nation safe—the Department of Homeland Security—can’t keep track of immigrants who remain in the U.S. after their visas expire.
This clearly creates a huge national security issue because terrorists can plot more attacks from within. In fact, dozens of foreigners convicted of terrorism since the 2001 attacks had overstayed their visas, according to the report, which was published by the investigative arm of Congress known as the Government Accountability Office (GAO).

My FOX NY tells the tale of the Mexican clown cars:
Police on Tuesday detained 513 undocumented migrants from Latin America and Asia who were crammed into two trucks bound for the United States, prosecutors in southeast Mexico said.
The migrants, from Latin America, Japan, China, India and Nepal, “were traveling in inhuman conditions” in the southeastern state of Chiapas, near the Guatemalan border, the local attorney general’s office said in a statement.
Police stopped the trucks, carrying 240 and 273 people, on the outskirts of state capital Tuxtla Gutierrez early Tuesday, after they accelerated through a vehicle scanner at a police checkpoint, the statement said.
Officers chased down the vehicles shortly afterward, it added.
Police detained the Mexican drivers of the two trucks, and the migrants were provided with aid and food, the statement said.
Since they had illegally crossed into Mexico we assume that “aid and food” means they were beaten within an inch of their lives and tossed in a squalid Mexican jail.
On the other hand, had they been Mexican citizens hoping to cross illegally into the United States, they probably would have been given a police escort to the American border, a nice warm snack and maps showing them how to get to San Diego.

Brewer has huevos grandes, something this President is sorely lacking, so she put together this new commercial that challenges Obama to get off his duff, to stop making juvenile jokes about illegal aliens, and to perform his constitutionally mandated duties.

In Los Angeles, for example, organizers boasted that 50,000 energized protesters would rally for immigration reform in on May Day. In reality, only a few hundred showed up.
The Los Angeles Times reports the sad news:
There were American flags, union banners and vendors hawking treats such as ice cream and hot dogs wrapped in bacon.
But what was missing from this year’s May Day march on a crystal-clear Sunday morning were the crowds.
By 10 a.m. only a few hundred immigrant rights and labor activists had gathered at Broadway and Olympic Boulevard in downtown Los Angeles to rally public support for legislation that would legalize the nation’s 11 million illegal immigrants.
“It’s really sad,” Luis Ortiz, an ice cream vendor who has been coming to the rallies for the last 15 years, said of the small turnout. “I’ve sold very little, almost nothing.”
Similar sparsely attended rallies were held in other major cities across the country.
You know your movement’s in trouble when you draw more vendors than protesters.

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, would like to pass a law letting immigrants come in as long as they agree to move to Detroit and live there.
New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, a man who fancies himself presidential material, came up with a very odd plan on Sunday’s Meet the Press.
He thinks we could reinvigorate Detroit by allowing illegal aliens to move there. Sort of a free pass, a get out of jail free green card.
Let’s let Bloomberg explain it himself:
“If I were the federal government, assuming you could wave a magic wand and pull everybody together, you pass a law letting immigrants come in as long as they agree to go to Detroit and live there for five or ten years.”

A bill signed into law by Gov. Jan Brewer authorizes erection of a security fence along Arizona’s portion of the U.S.-Mexico border, either in a compact with other states or by itself.
Spokesman Matt Benson declined immediate comment Friday on why Brewer signed the bill Thursday and on whether she plans to invoke the authority.
The bill does not specify a cost or make an appropriation but says the state would use donations, inmate labor and private contractors.Brewer recently asked President Barack Obama to extend the deployment of National Guard troops along the border and for more substantial border fences to block smugglers.
Our advice? Make it a do-it-yourself project, Jan. Send out a call for volunteers with hammers and nails and you’ll probably have about a million volunteers to help build that fence in no time at all.

Stepping up his demand to change the nation’s immigration laws, President Barack Obama promised graduates at a vast, multicultural community college in Miami on Friday that he’ll keep working to help students not legally in the U.S. to become American citizens.
The president’s renewed endorsement of the DREAM Act, which has become a rallying cry for Hispanic and other students around the country, drew enthusiastic applause from more than 3,000 graduates of Miami Dade College at their commencement ceremony. The students are part of an increasingly important political constituency in a state that will be crucial to the president’s 2012 re-election hopes.
The college graduates more Hispanic students than any other higher education institution in the U.S. Obama took note that some students had recently identified themselves publicly as immigrants without legal status in the country.
“Some were brought here as young children and discovered the truth only as adults,” he said. “They put their futures on the line in hopes they will spur the rest of us to live up to our most cherished values.”

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey shows that 61% of Likely U.S. Voters believe that a child born in the United States to a woman who is here illegally should not automatically become a U.S. citizen. That’s up slightly from last August but is the highest level of support for a change in the existing law found in five years of Rasmussen Reports surveying.
The liberal opposition is hemorrhaging support:
Twenty-eight percent (28%) disagree and feel that children born to illegal immigrants in this country should automatically become American citizens as is currently the practice. That’s down six points from August. Another 11% are undecided.
But that’s just the beginning of the bad news for liberals. Get this:
Eighty-four percent (84%) of voters believe that before anyone receives local, state or federal government services, they should be required to prove they are legally allowed to be in the United States. Only nine percent (9%) oppose such a requirement.
Just nine percent? Nine percent is almost a rounding error. More than 9% believe Obama was born in Kenya. More than 9% believe aliens have visited earth. More than 9% probably believe Obama is one of them.

The Houston Chronicle tells the terrible tale of Texas taxes:
Thirteen years after Congress overhauled the American welfare system, 57 percent of immigrants with children — those in the country legally or not — use at least one government, welfare program according to a report released Tuesday by the Center for Immigration Studies.
In comparison, 39 percent of native-born Americans with children are signed up for welfare, the report found.
In Texas, 54 percent of legal immigrants and 70 percent of illegal immigrants receive welfare assistance, with illegal immigrants generally receiving benefits on behalf of their U.S.-born children, according to the study, written by a think tank that favors reducing immigration into the U.S.
Overall, Texas tied with California and New York for the second highest immigrant welfare rates behind Arizona.

The exchange came during a town hall event sponsored by the Spanish-language television network Univision at a Washington, D.C., school. An illegal alien student, who appeared via Skype, asked: “My question for the president is, why [is the government] saying that deportations have stopped or the detention of many students like me, why is it that we are still receiving deportation letters like this one?”
Obama answered, “We have redesigned our enforcement practices under the law to make sure that we’re focusing primarily on criminals, and so our deportation of criminals are up about 70 percent. Our deportation of non-criminals are down, and that’s because we want to focus our resources on those folks who are destructive to the community.
We’d like illegal aliens to succeed, too. Succeed in crossing the border back to wherever the hell they came from.

We doubt that President Obama has saved or created any jobs for Americans, but we know for a fact that Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio has. Fact is, he created a whole bunch of ’em by raiding Phoenix restaurants and arresting dozens of illegal aliens for identity theft crimes.
Voila! Jobs for Americans.
Ahhh, but what about the old canard that illegal aliens do jobs that Americans won’t do? “Crap,” said one woman with a Masters degree who was willing to take one of the $8 per hour jobs being offered at Phoenix’ Pei Wei Chinese restaurant.
Liberals, as always, contradict themselves when it comes to jobs and illegal aliens. On one hand they say, “There are no jobs.” On the other hand they say, “Illegal aliens do the jobs that Americans won’t do.”
Which is it? Choose one. Because you can’t have it both ways.

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa has asked for approval for a six-foot-wall around the Getty House, the mayor’s official residence in Windsor Square, according to city documents.
But at least one planning official was “caught off guard” by Villaraigosa’s request for increased security around the taxpayer-owned property.
The mayor’s office filed its request on Feb. 2 for a variance to city bylaws with plans to erect a security wall around the property at 605 S. Irving Blvd.
Officials say the wall’s design includes “embedded” security features that will save taxpayer money by cutting costs for security staffing.
Initially, the mayor proposed an eight-and-a-half-foot wall, which was quickly rejected by the Windsor Square Association.
Villaraigosa has scaled down his plans, but the new proposal still exceeds the permitted 42-inch height.
Please note that Villaraigosa’s mansion is located at 605 South Irving Boulevard in Los Angeles. Let’s all meet there at noon and have a picnic lunch on his front yard.
Make sure you leave your trash when you leave. We’ll all go inside the mansion like we own it and use his bathroom or if it’s being used we’ll just use the bushes. If any of us get hurt, we’ll go inside the house and demand that he give us medical care. And if any of us are short of money, we’ll demand that he Villaraigosa cut us each a check.

Here’s the latest news on Arizona’s new anti-illegal alien laws from the Associated Press:
The Senate Appropriations Committee that narrowly endorsed (Russell) Pearce’s latest bill on a 7-6 vote also approved others targeting automatic citizenship for U.S.-born children of illegal immigrants and requiring hospitals to report patients who cannot show they’re in the country legally…
It would make it a state crime with a 30-day minimum jail sentence to drive a vehicle while in the country illegally, and Republican Rick Crandall of Mesa said a provision allowing forfeiture of vehicles driven by illegal immigrants could prompt car rental companies to demand proof of legal status from tourists and other visitors.
“It’s the type of thing that completely undoes” a recently unveiled campaign to promote the state’s tourism industry, Crandall said.”The measure allows for business licenses to be suspended if an employer doesn’t use the federal E-Verify system to check the work eligibility of new hires. Workers caught using a false identity to get a job would face mandatory six-month jail sentences.

However, Alessandra Soler Meetze, executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Arizona, said, “This bill is miles beyond SB1070 in terms of its potential to roll back the rights and fundamental freedoms of both citizens and non-citizens alike.”
