Have you ever seen stories about the morons at the Westboro Baptist Church who protest military funerals and wondered, “Where do idiots like that come from?” The answer, it appears, may be the Ivy League in general and Columbia University specifically.

The New York Post details how the classy college crowd at Columbia mocked, jeered and outright laughed at a returning Iraq War veteran.
“‘Racist!’ some students yelled at Anthony Mascheck, a Columbia freshman and former Army sergeant awarded the Purple Heart after being shot 11 times in a firefight in northern Iraq in February 2008. Others hissed and booed the veteran.”
And what had Maschek done to provoke the taunting? He spoke at a town-hall meeting to “issue an impassioned challenge to fellow students on their perceptions of the military.”
After saying “It doesn’t matter how you feel about the war, it doesn’t matter how you feel about fighting. There are bad men out there plotting to kill you,” several students laughed and jeered the Idaho native.
Apparently Columbia’s student body is up in arms – pardon our use of violent rhetoric – about the horrors of ROTC returning to their peace-loving campus.
The University had previously rejected the return of ROTC because of the military’s “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy. So now that DADT has been overturned, they’ve come up with a new excuse – the military bans transgender soldiers. According to senior Sean Udell, “Transpeople are part of the Columbia community.”
No word on why Columbia will reject the ROTC after the military begins accepting transgender recruits. Perhaps it will be the fact that they accept so few elite leftist idiots, which will no doubt keep the University in excuses for the next hundred years or so.
