Signs of the apocalypse: $20,000,000 spent on road signs glorifying Democrats and Obama

by editor on July 15, 2010

stimulus road signs

Barack Obama and the Democrat party are using millions of your tax dollars to put up road signs praising themselves just before the midterm elections. Oh, sure, the signs are disguised as government neutral, but make no mistake, they are campaign posters.

It’s egregious enough that even ABC News felt compelled to report the story:

As the midterm election season approaches, new road signs are popping up everywhere – millions of dollars worth of signs touting “The American Reinvestment and Recovery Act” and reminding passers-by that the program is “Putting America Back to Work.”

On the road leading to Dulles Airport outside Washington, DC there’s a 10′ x 11′ road sign touting a runway improvement project funded by the federal stimulus. The project cost nearly $15 million and has created 17 jobs, according to recovery.gov.

However, there’s another number that caught the eye of ABC News: $10,000. That’s how much money the Washington Airports Authority tells ABC News it spent to make and install the sign – a single sign – announcing that the project is “Funded by The American Reinvestment and Recovery Act” and is “Putting America Back to Work.” The money for the sign was taken out of the budget for the runway improvement project.

The story continues:

At the center of the controversy are a series of guidelines provided to stimulus recipients … Rep. (Darrell) Issa cites what he calls “perhaps the most overly political guidance on stimulus advertising” involving the Department of Housing and Urban Development and a stimulus recipient. According to investigators from the oversight committee, HUD provided the Office of Native American Programs with information on “signage requirements.” The document suggested a sign template informing the public the projects had been, “Funded By: American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, Barack Obama, President.”

Congressman Aaron Schock (R-IL) has joined the chorus of Republican outrage over stimulus signs and claims at least $20 million has been spent on them. He told ABC News, “I think it’s a bit of an oxymoron to spend tens of millions of dollars of taxpayer money, borrowed money, on a bunch of signs to tell them how we are spending their taxpayer money.”

Schock’s office provided ABC News with administration guidance on stimulus signs sent to him from a constituent. The document, dated March of 2009, outlines the “General Guidelines for Emblem and Logo Applications.” The Recovery Act logo which was provided not only looks oddly similar to the Obama logo from the 2008 campaign but its stated purpose, according to the document, is to act as “a symbol of President Obama’s commitment to the American people to invest their tax dollars wisely and put Americans back to work.”

We say let’s give Obama and the Democrats the benefit of the doubt. The green sign may praise President Obama and the Democrats and use a logo that “looks oddly similar to the Obama logo”, but it’s balanced off by the orange sign which appears to be an honest portrayal of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act because it shows an average American citizen shoveling away a giant pile of shit.

At least that’s how we interpret it.

The interesting thing of all of this is the obama iconography that his circle logo has become. It is such a brilliant subliminal message-and is found throughout the federal government now-whoever came up with his marketing is brilliant-in an evil way-but none the less brilliant. The sheep in this country, robots, and such, will follow that logo off a cliff like the proverbial lemmings they are…

Vote him out-or plan on wearing a grey jumpsuit in the very near future, every day, that has an iteration of that very logo on it in a prominent location.

That’s the first thing I picked up on, msh….that friggin’ circle, or a BIG FAT ZERO as I like to call it.

Now if someone who is proficient in Photoshop can take the Obama Organizing for America logo and superimpose a crosshair and 11-2-10, then that’s a bumper sticker/tee-shirt I’d display!

There is one of those signs on I-75N just outside of downtown Cincy. It’s been there now for about 6 months and there is no work going on anywhere near it and it does not say what work is being done. I always assumed it was talking about itself – maybe took two people a couple hours to put up. So I guess America was back to work for a bit.

I don’t have a problem with the signs. They remind me of government waste and failed policies.

Knowing Obama’s penchant to “spread the wealth,” the road signs were probably made in Mexico.

That is not an american worker in the orange picture shoveling shit as you believe, rather it is an American worker pissing away cash into a square ditch whose sides represent the North, the South, the West and the East. His member is quite long because the sign was originally supposed to double as an ad for Viagra to defray the 10,000 costs. This was later dropped as a conflict of interest. Call the American Recovery center call center, like I did. Remember to Press 2 for English.

In Illinois Blago had the state put his name on all the tollroad signs when he was in office as if Blago personally funded them all himself. I have this feeling this is where Barry got this idea from. However I do believe Barry was critical of Blago for doing this, so in typical BO fashion he does the exact same thing…but he doesn’t put his name he uses a symbol…an I idea I am sure he got from the artist formerly known as Prince….

What I want to know is how many of those projects went on hold thanks to the Dem’s recession then got funding from the so-called ‘Stimulus’ to start up again, then the Dems try to claim they created the jobs they actually lost.

Also as devil’s advocate, how many people worked on those signs? Are they goverment employees who still had jobs?

My wife and I are now counting the number of “workers” at each site where the bumper-sticker-replacement signs are showing up.
We kept track of that count and found the average to be 3 workers per site.

With the way November is looking, the dems pathetic attempts at gaining approval are completely laughable.

Why is the man with the shovel black? Does Jesse Jackson know about this? How about the Los Angeles NAACP?

That poor black man out in the sun, no hard hat or any hat for that matter.
It reminds me of the chain gangs. Poor guy out there , slavin’ for the man.
