Ann Curry speaks to the Dalai Lama like he’s retarded

by editor on May 24, 2010

What’s with Ann Curry babytalking the Dalai Lama? She did everything but say, “C’mon, honey, pick up your toys and then let’s go night-night.”

Maybe it was just a misguided attempt to show some kind of respect to a religious leader. Because, you know, all the world’s religious leaders like to be spoken to as if they’re two year olds.

Maybe she was that way because he is old and seemingly frail. A lot of people act that way towards old people. For some reason as one gets old it engenders protective notes like one does for children.

However, I feel in this particular case it is more than that. She and the others acted in this manner because he is who he is and because of what he represents. The media and the world have been good in making this guy into a persecuted leader of a people who are in bondange. I think this notion is erroneous (not entirely of course) as I will explain later. All of them bowing at the middle like that seem off to me. I don’t mind if they are all Buddhists and/or Tibetan and they do that, but to do that when they are not is off.

Even though I should respect the Queen of England for her position, as an American citizen I am not to bow to her or give her any special deferential treatment. I am not her subject and not bound to her other than normal respect. Obviously calling her names and being disrespectful is bad, but I am not to treat her as a person high above me either, she is no better than me and neither is the Dalai Lama.

I have no problem given him respect because of his position as a religious leader and seemingly in name only political leader of a nation, but to bow and act like a moron fan is ridiculous. He in all reality has no consequence. He enjoys the high life while Tibetans are still poor and abused. That is why I feel his depiction in the media is partly erroneous. Even though it is very true that his people are being abused by the Chinese, he is no martyr as he allowed himself to be taken and never returned to his country where he knows that he would be put to prison and/or killed (by accident). Nelson Mandela even if there are things about him that are off is more of a “great man” than the Dalai Lama. He actually did suffer in skin the plight of his people. He stayed in the country after he was let go and tried to make a difference.

Then as John mentioned the man goes on to say that he is a Marxist. Basically he is sympathetic to aspects of Communism; the politics that keep his people in bondage. He decries capitalism while he enjoys the trappings of capitalism (living in Beverly Hills, schoomozing with celebrities, limos and the best of all things). He is an hypocrite. He is far from being a great man.

Great man? The guy is either a coward or a frikin idiot to proclaim himself a marxist when his own people have been abused for decades by the communists.

What I see is Ann Curry giving the respect due to this great man.

Why do people go ga-ga over the Dalai Lama?

That WHOLE thing was just gross…

I’m going to throw up. Why are they bowing and putting their hands together? Would they kneel and kiss the Pops ring if he showed up?

They’d probably kick him in the ballz. After all, he’s not a socialist.

I got sick to my stomach at the absolute ease with which they all went about kissing his ass. And Roker was awestruck like he met Jesus or something.

What a bunch of turds…

Had they met Jesus, they would have mistreated him.

Unfortunately, I think you’re right about that…

Yep… absolutely. I think that people can figure out why.

It seemed to me that he very much enjoyed being treated like a child.

He’s gotta be an idiot, to proclaim he is a Marxist when his countrymen are terrorized by the Communist Chinese. Screw him and all the ass kissers on the Today Show. He’s the Donkey Lama

How else would you expect someone to speak to a declared Marxist? He can’t be that bright.

I can’t stand Ann Curry, she does this everybody. In fact, I’ve noticed far too many female “reporters” have taken to doing the Baba Wawa route of interviewing: being condescending, patronizing idiots who are only looking to elicit the tearjerker moment.

Just one more reason to avoid newsmag shows like Dateline and watch 60 Minutes, even though they’re all 100 years old they still know how to behave like professional reporters and don’t baby-talk their interview subjects.

Maybe she’s on to something. That hypocritical motherf*cker IS retarded.
And I don’t have to worry about that being offensive, because he doesn’t actually exist.
