Congressman Paul Ryan bitch slaps MSNBC hosts in healthcare debate

Republican Congressman Paul Ryan schooling two MSNBC hosts about ObamaCare. It’s not just that they’re ignorant, it’s that they’re proudly ignorant.

This is a thing of beauty – Republican Congressman Paul Ryan schooling two MSNBC hosts about ObamaCare. It’s not just that they’re ignorant, it’s that they’re proudly ignorant. If you want to skip ahead to minute 03:28, it really gets good when Katrina Vanden Heuvel joins the discussion to demonstrate her complete ignorance.

Katrina Vanden Heuvel: You have good government-plan health care. Why shouldnt all Americans have what you have?

Congressman Paul Ryan: I have good private-sector healthcare. We do not have a public option. The federal employee plan lists a number of private plans to choose from to select and my employer, the taxpayer, pays for a portion of these private plans. There is no public plan option in the Federal Employee Health Benefits Program. You are mistaken on that point. My Patients Choice Act that I’ve introduced with Congressman Nunes, Senators Burr and Coburn actually proposes just what youre suggesting: give people the ability, in State-based exchanges, to have a plan just like what we have here in Congress. A private health care plan that’s actuarially equivalent to what we in Congress have. We actually had a vote in the House Ways and Means Committee on an amendment I offered with Congressman Dean Heller which said, “Let’s put members of Congress in this public health care plan so that we can experience the same thing we want to impose on the rest of the country.” You know what? That amendment failed on nearly a party-line vote.

Katrina Vanden Heuvel: Competition is at the heart of America. To deny Americans competition by denying them the option of a public plan seems to me to be un-American.

Congressman Paul Ryan: What’s weird about that line right there, Katrina, is that I know you and others are very much in favor of a single-payer plan, which is obviously to deny competition and have the government run it all. What’s concerning about this debate with me is that you’re using capitalist rhetoric to try and move a plan that is inherently anti-market. The problem is that the facts tell us this: A public plan option quickly becomes a government-run monopoly. The actuaries are telling us is that in a few short years, the public plan option displaces the private sector, employers dump their employees on the public plan and then they have no choices but the public plan. And so, let’s not try to sell a government-run plan using free market rhetoric. Let’s have an honest debate about what this bill is all about.

Honest debate on MSNBC? Get serious, Congressman Paul Ryan.

Most Masculine President In History drinks beer like he’s at an English tea party

What’s with President Obama’s dainty fingertip grip on his beer, his little finger extended as if in parody of the rules of etiquette at an English tea party? It’s not something he did once. It’s something he does every time he downs a cold one.

obama_beer4

This is something we’ve wondered about for months and haven’t mentioned. But it seems appropriate to bring it up in light of the President’s vitally important beer diplomacy at the White House today.

What’s with President Obama’s dainty fingertip grip on his beer, his little finger extended as if in parody of the rules of etiquette at an English tea party? It’s not something he did once. It’s something he does every time he downs a cold one.

We’re not saying this is a big deal, so our liberal readers should relax. But is this any way for the Most Masculine President in History to grab a brewski?

How low can it go? Obama approval drops again

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Thursday is now dwon to -12%, his lowest ever in his continuing slump.

obama_index_july_30_2009

Do not be confused. This is a new story. Sure, it’s nearly the same headline as yesterday’s story. And the day before that. And most recent days. But rest assured, this is a new, new low. Not an old, new low.

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Thursday shows that 28% of the nation’s voters now Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as President. Forty percent (40%) Strongly Disapprove giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -12. That’s the lowest rating yet recorded for President Obama.

The Presidential Approval Index is calculated by subtracting the number who Strongly Disapprove from the number who Strongly Approve.

Bye-bye.

Would you trust Chris Dodd and Kent Conrad
with your health care?

Appointing Chris Dodd as head of the banking committee and Kent Conrad as chair of the Budget Committee didn’t help the real estate market; now they are in charge of health care?

Senator Kent Conrad indicating how much interest he paid on his Countrywide mortgage
Senator Kent Conrad indicating how much interest he paid on his Countrywide mortgage

Why did America’s real estate market crater?

Appointing Chris Dodd as head of the banking committee and Kent Conrad as chair of the Budget Committee didn’t help.

According to testimony from an official at Countrywide’s VIP division, while millions of Americans struggled to make their house payments, those two Democrat Senators were getting sweetheart mortgage deals from the soon-to-fail bank. And, while they blamed the Bush administration and tax policies for the cratering real estate market, Dodd and Conrad swore they had no idea they were getting a good deal on their mortgages.

After all, who pays attention to things like interest rates when you’re financing a home purchase? Or payment terms? Or the monthly payment amount?

Now, these are the guys that are in charge of a health care fix (fix being the operable term here).

Wonder what health care will be like for U.S. Senators under a Dodd-Conrad health system? Maybe private hospitals will run specials for VIPs:

Free ACL surgery with every kickback.

Bribe one, get one liver transplant free (The Kennedy special).

Ear, nose, and throat visit for earmarks.

A primer for Democrats: How much is one trillion dollars?

Perhaps the problem in Washington, DC is that none of the Democrats in the House or Senate actually understand what the word “trillion” means. So here is a simple, graphic explanation to help the fine Americans serving in the Congress of the United States of America understand exactly how much they’re pounding down a rathole.

Perhaps the problem in Washington, DC is that none of the Democrats in the House or Senate actually understand what the word “trillion” means. It’s just a big, unimaginable number with lots of zeroes, an amorphous concept somewhere between a million and a bazillion.

So here is a simple, graphic explanation to help the fine Americans serving in the Congress of the United States of America understand exactly how much they’re pounding down a rathole.

Oddity: Black Harvard professor related to white cop who arrested him

Henry Louis Gates Jr., the now infamous black professor who was arrest outside his Cambridge, Massachusetts home last week, and Sgt. James Crowley, the officer who arrested him, both trace their ancestry back to a legendary Irish clan called the Niall of the Nine Hostages.

Crowley and Gates are getting together at the White House for a beer and a family reunion
Crowley and Gates are getting together at the White House for a beer and a family reunion

This is one of those stories that demonstrates the lunacy of labeling people by color.

While hosting a PBS series in 2008, Gates discovered that he was descended from a black slave girl and an Irish immigrant.

He had his DNA analyzed at Trinity College in Dublin and learned that he was descended from a fourth century Irish warlord who beget and beget and beget until his became one of the dominant strains in Irish genealogy.

Oddly enough, Crowley can also trace his lineage back to the same Irish warlord.

So when they share a beer with President Obama at the White House on Thurday, Gates can look at Crowley and say, “What up, bro?” and almost mean it literally.

How weird is that?

Barack Obama meets the ghosts of Richard Nixon and Charles Manson

Last Wednesday night’s presidential declaration that Cambridge, Massachusetts police acted stupidly in arresting one of the President’s friends is reminiscent of an incident that occurred during the 1970 Charles Manson murder trial.

Would President Obama have said Charles Manson's arrest was stupid, too?
Would President Obama have said Charles Manson's arrest was stupid, too?

What, you may ask, could those three names possibly have in common?

Well, last Wednesday night’s presidential declaration that Cambridge, Massachusetts police acted stupidly in arresting one of the President’s friends is reminiscent of an incident that occurred during the 1970 Charles Manson murder trial.

Here’s how Wikipedia.com describes the 1970 event:

On August 4, despite precautions taken by the court, Manson flashed the jury a Los Angeles Times front page whose headline was “Manson Guilty, Nixon Declares,” a reference to a statement made the previous day when U.S. President Richard Nixon had decried what he saw as the media’s glamorization of Manson. Voir dired by Judge Charles Older, the jurors contended that the headline had not influenced them. The next day, the female defendants stood up and said in unison that, in light of Nixon’s remark, there was no point in going on with the trial.

Nixon caught holy hell from civil libertarians for saying what everyone in the world thought. As he should have. Presidents have no business expressing uninformed personal opinions about on-going criminal investigations and trials. Not Nixon. Not Obama. Not any president.

We’re actually surprised President Obama chose to comment on a subject about which he was admittedly ignorant.

We thought that was Joe Biden’s job.

Democrats hit bottom, propose toilet paper tax

Congressman Earl Blumenauer is getting a little behind in his work
Congressman Earl Blumenauer is getting a little behind in his work

Our daddies always said, “Never trust a politician who looks like Bill Nye, the Science Guy.” Here’s why:

Oregon Democrat Earl Blumenauer has introduced a bill with the heartwarming and hard-to-oppose title of the “Water Protection and Reinvestment Act.”

It will be “financed broadly by small fees on such things as bottled beverages, products disposed of in wastewater, corporate profits, and the pharmaceutical industry.”

“Fees on what,” you may ask.

“Damn near everything,” we would respond.

A 3% excise tax will be slapped on anything that can be disposed of in wastewater. That includes things like toothpaste, cosmetics and toilet paper. A 4% excise tax will be added to water beverages.

Blumenauer’s logic is that “…these products wind up in the water stream and require clean up by sewage treatment plants.”

There’s no end to the Democrat creativity in Washington, DC these days.

Future headline prediction: Obama appoints Blumenauer Toilet Paper Czar.

Obama’s economic program suddenly begins to make sense

It’s clear the President Obama has absolutely no concept of how capitalism works. The private sector will be incentivized if you take some of the profit motive out?

Obama-nine-dollar-bill

Based on last Wednesday night’s press conference, it’s clear President Obama has absolutely no concept of how capitalism works.

“Having a public plan out there that also shows that maybe if you take some of the profit motive out, maybe if you are reducing some of the administrative costs, that you can get an even better deal, that’s going to incentivize the private sector to do even better.”

The private sector will be incentivized if you take some of the profit motive out?

Post-racial Cambridge cops refuse to support America’s first black president

CNN Don Lemon must be disappointed to learn that black cops in Cambridge support white cop James Crowley instead of America’s First Black President or Henry Gates.

Poor Don Lemon. The CNN talking head was terribly disappointed a few weeks ago when he learned (on the air) that Obama’s warm greeting in Africa was no warmer than the one received by President Bush.

Now he must be equally disappointed to learn that black cops in Cambridge support white cop James Crowley instead of America’s First Black President.

Imagine that. They’re judging Crowley by the content of his character, not by the color of his skin.

Democrats risk alienating their base, propose tax on plastic surgery

ugly democrat women

The party that traditionally clings to power based on the votes of unattractive women is risking it all by proposing a tax on plastic surgery. Now that they’ve taxed everything else, they want to tax ugliness.

The Senate Finance Committee wants to tack a 10% excise tax on ”unnecessary” cosmetic surgery. Senate Finance Chairman Max Baucus said it was one of the “interesting,” “creative,” and “kind of fun” ideas that had been discussed.

(Please continue with this story after pausing briefly to consider the fact that Democrats think taxes are “kind of fun.”)

The tax would target itemized deductions for medical expenses not covered by health insurance. According to current law, cosmetic surgery defined as “any procedure which is directed at improving the patient’s appearance and does not meaningfully promote the proper function of the body or prevent or treat illness or disease.”

Deductions for procedures such as lasik eye surgery or reconstructive surgery would still be legit. But elective procedures like nose jobs, liposuction, teeth-whitening and Botox injections would be slapped with the new tax.

Let’s call this proposal what it is: the Ugly American Revenue Enhancement Act of 2009.

Obama’s Hawaiian birth certificate discovered at Honolulu garage sale

Barack Obama’s birth certificate recently was recently discovered and purchased for 25¢ at a garage sale held in the front yard of the apartment building across the street from Honolulu’s Punahou School where Obama lived with his grandparents.

It is now official: Barack Obama was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, United States.

His original birth certificate recently was recently discovered and purchased for 25¢ at a garage sale held in the front yard of the apartment building across the street from Honolulu’s Punahou School where Obama lived with his grandparents. It’s like when you watch Antique Roadshow and hear one of those stories about someone finding a Picasso in his aunt’s attic.

The current residents of the apartment found the official birth certificate behind the refrigerator, where it has obviously been been sitting lost all those years since Obama’s family lived in the apartment.

We sincerely hope this puts an end to those crazy, groundless birther conspiracy theories.

The Biden Curse: The better he says the economy’s getting, the worse the economy gets

On July 9, Joe Biden traveled to Ohio to tell the yokels how effective the “stimulus” had been. “Roads plus teachers plus cops plus jobs equals a community,” he said, “and that equals paychecks and prosperity.” Eight days later, it was announced that the state’s unemployment rate had increased from 10.8% to 11.1%.

"I swear the economy's getting better. Much better. Really better. Super better."

On July 16, Biden visited Richmond, Virginia to deliver the same message of hope and change. The next day, the Bureau of Labor Statistics revealed that Virginia shed 22,800 in June and that the state’s unemployment rate had jumped to 7.2%.

Cold cash cures global warming. Cool.

Every time we hear someone huckster bemoan the big bucks Exxon-Mobil pays to fund studies that debunk global warming, we wonder how much the government is spending to “bunk” the theory.

global warming spending world is cooling

Every time we hear some huckster bemoan the big bucks Exxon-Mobil pays to fund studies that debunk global warming, we wonder how much the government is spending to “bunk” the theory.

Finally, thanks to Aussie blogger Joanne Nova, all the numbers have been compiled in one handy, dandy report. It clearly demonstrates that Exxon’s dollars pale in comparison to what’s being spent by the American government’s global warming research machine.

Be prepared to be pissed off.

  • The US government has provided over $79 billion since 1989 on policies related to climate change, including science and technology research, foreign aid, and tax breaks.
  • Despite the billions: “audits” of the science are left to unpaid volunteers…
  • Carbon trading worldwide reached $126 billion in 2008. Banks are calling for more carbon-trading. And experts are predicting the carbon market will reach $2 – $10 trillion making carbon the largest single commodity traded.
  • Meanwhile in a distracting sideshow, Exxon-Mobil Corp is repeatedly attacked for paying a grand total of $23 million to skeptics—less than a thousandth of what the US government has put in, and less than one five-thousandth of the value of carbon trading in just the single year of 2008.

These charts clearly demonstrate an inverse relationship between money spent on global warming research and temperature. The more we spend, the lower temperatures go.

Liberals, of course, will undoubtedly consider this validation that their philosophy works.

Global Warming Update: Week 8 of hurricane season 2009: Still no hurricanes, Al Gore still full of crap

Same ol’, same ol’. No tropical depressions, no tropical storms, no hurricanes.

In the record-setting year of 2005, we had already had seven storms by this date. In the remarkably quiet year of 2006, we’d had two. In the average year of 2007, we’d had two. And in the average year of 2008, we’d had four.

Time Magazine conducted a poll. “Now that Walter Cronkite has passed away,” they asked, “who is America’s most trusted newscaster?” The results will undoubtedly depress the broadcast networks’ anchors:

  7%   Katie Couric
19%   Charlie Gibson
29%   Brian Williams
44%   Jon Stewart

For god’s sake, man, even Jon Stewart wouldn’t call himself a “newscaster.” He’s a comedian, damn it. Based on that, the poll is flawed for not including Carrot Top and Andy Dick.

Katie Couric must have been suicidal after learning that 6 times as many Americans trust a comedian with the news than trust her.

Hang in there, Katie. You got 65% of the vote in Iowa.

The Man in Black explains the latest presidential tracking poll

The Barack Obama love that once burned with such red hot passion has cooled and the poll numbers are now plunging down, down, down. Presidential Approval Index rating of -11.

Ahhhh, the love affair is over. The love that once burned with such red hot passion has cooled and the poll numbers are now plunging down, down, down. Johnny Cash explains the results of the latest Rasmussen poll:

Love is a burning thing
And it makes a fiery ring,
Bound by wild desire,
I fell into a ring of fire

I fell into a burning ring of fire,
I went down, down, down
And the flames went higher,
And it burns, burns, burns
The ring of fire,
The ring of fire

And now here’s how Rasmussen explains what has happened to The Greatest President In History in more traditional terms:

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Sunday shows that only 29% of the nation’s voters now Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as President. Forty percent (40%) Strongly Disapprove giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -11. That’s the first time his ratings have reached double digits in negative territory
.
These updates are based upon nightly telephone interviews and reported on a three-day rolling average basis. Today is the first update based entirely upon interviews conducted after the President’s prime time televised press conference. The number who Strongly Approve of the President has remained unchanged since the press conference but the number who Strongly Disapprove has gone up by five percentage points (from 35% on Wednesday morning to 40% today).

The Presidential Approval Index is calculated by subtracting the number who Strongly Disapprove from the number who Strongly Approve.

He’s going down, down, down and the flames go higher.
