IHateTheMedia.com’s judgment confirmed: Tim Conway, Jr named #5 Best radio host in Los Angeles survey

Los Angeles radio professionals named Tim Conway, Jr their #5 on-air personality in the nation’s biggest, toughest, most competitive radio market.

KFI’s Tim Conway, Jr was the #1 pick in our recent countdown of America’s Top Ten Local Talk Show Hosts. Our judgment has been confirmed by Los Angeles radio professionals who named Conway their #5 on-air personality in the nation’s biggest, toughest, most competitive radio market.

conway-tim-jr
Another blatant promotional story for KFI's Tim Conway, Jr. We're such pathetic groupies.

Here’s what some of LARadio.com’s readers had to say about Tim:

• “Incredibly entertaining no matter what he’s discussing. For the first time in a long time I actually turn off the tv at home and turn up the radio at 7 p.m. to listen.”

• “I wish sometimes I got out of work later in the evening to hear more of his brilliance. His father’s comedic genius is in his DNA. Love the ‘What did Jesse Jackson Say?’ bit Also, props to his newsperson and semi-side kick Aron Bender. They have great chemistry.”

• “A brilliant talk show host with impeccable comedic timing and audience connection. Whether deconstructing the latest celebrity meltdown or riffing on a local news story, Tim is tough to turn off. Tim’s show exudes the ‘something is always happening’ vibe on his show. Tim’s humor cannot be found anywhere else on the talk dial. In 2012, Conway should be holding down morning drive in LA radio.”

• “Very funny. A highly entertaining show that does not rely on a politics-only approach. It’s clear he’s following his own instincts instead of being forced in a box. And he’s drawing a much larger audience on AM than he ever did on fm. An enormous, obvious lesson here if anyone is paying attention.”

• “One of the most likeable guys, both in and out of the control room. Conway’s irreverent style has won him a solid following. Some of my favorite moments are when he cracks himself up during the show. Generally speaking, that must mean that his material comes from somewhere outside of his own notes and show prep. One of the last great entertainers and master storytellers on talk radio.”

• “Tim is smart, dryly funny, and unique, a major talent ready for prime time.”

We sent Conway a congratulatory email when we read that he had been named #5 on LARadio.com’s list. It said, “Yeah, well, that’s nice and all, but we’re sure you’re much prouder of being #1 on IHateTheMedia.com.”

He responded with a witty “You’re 1,000 percent right.”

OK, maybe not all that witty, but it was Tim Freakin’ Conway, Jr and we’ll take what we can get.

The world’s second or third richest man (depending on the day of the week) is singing away in the New York Times about how the ultra-rich should have the snot taxed out of them.

buffett-sings-blues
"I gots the blues, the billionaire blues, I gots the silly old white man billionaire blues."

From the official newspaper of record:

“Last year my federal tax bill — the income tax I paid, as well as payroll taxes paid by me and on my behalf — was $6,938,744. That sounds like a lot of money. But what I paid was only 17.4 percent of my taxable income — and that’s actually a lower percentage than was paid by any of the other 20 people in our office.”

Warren thinks the ultra-rich aren’t taxed enough and that they should be taxed more even though corporations already tired of 35% tax rates are relocating to places like Switzerland with 15%-16% tax rates. Will the ultra-rich be next?

When is someone going to get the right idea and lower taxes like JFK in the 60s? Lower taxes and the ultra-rich and corporations will be happy to stay in the USA. Missing jobs and tax money will reappear and the economy will pick up.

If you’re so patriotic, Warren, why don’t you write a check to Uncle Sam for a few billion and get your ultra-rich buddies to write them, too?

Why not a flat-tax, Warren? Then everyone would pay fairly!

Hit it, Warren: “I got dem billionaire blues, ’cuz I’m rich I be tellin’ everbody what to do, even if it makes me look like a fool, I got dem billioinaire blues.

Global warming may drive aliens to destroy life on Earth. No, really.

It may not rank as the most compelling reason to curb greenhouse gases, but reducing our emissions might just save humanity from a pre-emptive alien attack.

Until now, the threats climate change cultists warned us about have been terrestrial: sea levels rising, year-round snowfalls, year-round heat waves, etc. That wasn’t enough to frighten change-denying terrorists, so now the believers are rolling out the big guns: aliens!

mars-attacks
On one hand the government says aliens don't exist. On the other hand, the government says aliens will destroy us.

Even the UK Guardian seems a bit skeptical:

It may not rank as the most compelling reason to curb greenhouse gases, but reducing our emissions might just save humanity from a pre-emptive alien attack, scientists claim.

Watching from afar, extraterrestrial beings might view changes in Earth’s atmosphere as symptomatic of a civilisation growing out of control – and take drastic action to keep us from becoming a more serious threat, the researchers explain.

When Neil Armstrong said, “One small step for man…”, one of the lizard people said, “There goes the astronomical neighborhood.”

“Green” aliens might object to the environmental damage humans have caused on Earth and wipe us out to save the planet.

Hmmmm. The aliens sound a lot like progressive Democrats.

“These scenarios give us reason to limit our growth and reduce our impact on global ecosystems.”

ETs may not like the growth that’s already here. We’d advise rich libs like Al Gore to move into eco-friendly huts pronto.

It would be particularly important for us to limit our emissions of greenhouse gases, since atmospheric composition can be observed from other planets,” the authors write.

It’s also important for us to limit our bullcrap emissions since it’s likely that frauds and hypocrites can be spotted from other planets, too.

Al Sharpton’s Moron Moment of the Day: Could you repeat that question?

We’re pretty sure Al lost track of where he was going about twenty seconds and three clauses into this question, yet continued to press forward.

MSNBC’s Al Sharpton is a quick learner. In just a matter of weeks he has mastered the fine art of asking interminably long, convoluted questions that end with the host’s exhaustion rather than with a question mark, something that has taken Chris Matthews years to perfect, and an area in which we are demonstrating our skill with the construction of this sentence?

We’re pretty sure Al lost track of where he was going about twenty seconds and three clauses into this question, yet continued to press forward, completely undeterred by the confusion in which he was enveloped.

It would have been a perfect Al Sharpton Moron Moment of the Day if only his guest had said, “Could you repeat the question?”

Now he’s Martin Luther Obama

At a small, exclusive New York City fundraiser Thursday night… Obama compared himself and his agenda to that of Martin Luther King Jr.

James Thurber’s masterpiece “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty” is about a milquetoast who daydreams about doing heroic things. We mention this because, like “1984” and “Das Kapital”, it’s apparently another piece of fiction Obama seems intent on acting out.

barack-obama-martin-luther-king
Barack Obama is just like Martin Luther King. Except for that "content of their character" thing

The White House Dossier relates the bizarre tale:

At a small, exclusive New York City fundraiser Thursday night… Obama compared himself and his agenda to that of Martin Luther King Jr.

“And now that King has his own memorial on the Mall I think that we forget when he was alive there was nobody who was more vilified, nobody who was more controversial, nobody who was more despairing at times. There was a decade that followed the great successes of Birmingham and Selma in which he was just struggling, fighting the good fight, and scorned, and many folks angry. But what he understood, what kept him going, was that the arc of moral universe is long but it bends towards justice. But it doesn’t bend on its own. It bends because all of us are putting our hand on the arc and we are bending it in that direction. And it takes time. And it’s hard work. And there are frustrations.”

Sounds like the arc of moral universe also bends toward non-sequiturs. Or maybe a metaphor delivery truck slammed into a roadside gibberish stand.

We hate to rain on the president’s vacation, but just because someone is vilified, controversial and despairing doesn’t mean he will eventually be vindicated.

Some people are vilified for good reason and Barack Obama is one of them.

Good news! We found those “shovel-ready” jobs!

Let’s take that $20 million and divide it by 14 jobs, which gives us a figure of $1,428,571 cost per job created.

Pardon us, Mr. President. Here we’ve been wondering where all those “shovel-ready” jobs you keep talking about are and lo and behold we think we’ve found them!

golden-shovel
Who needs a golden parachute when you can have a golden shovel?

Seattle’s KOMO News has the story:

Last year, Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn announced the city had won a coveted $20 million federal grant to invest in weatherization. The unglamorous work of insulating crawl spaces and attics had emerged as a silver bullet in a bleak economy – able to create jobs and shrink carbon footprint – and the announcement came with great fanfare.

Wow! $20 million for jobs! Fantastic! Amazing! Pathetic! Wait. Did we say pathetic? Yes, that’s exactly what we said. While this was supposed to create 2,000 jobs the reality is:

But more than a year later, Seattle’s numbers are lackluster. As of last week, only three homes had been retrofitted and just 14 new jobs have emerged from the program. Many of the jobs are administrative, and not the entry-level pathways once dreamed of for low-income workers. Some people wonder if the original goals are now achievable.

Back to those simple mathematics that seem so elusive to the Obama administration. Let’s take that $20 million and divide it by 14 jobs, which gives us a figure of $1,428,571 cost per job created.

Yes, that certainly sounds like “hope and change” to us. No hope and with spending like that, the taxpayers will get no change at all. Not even a penny.

Fast and Furious update: Lie, cheat and kill and get a promotion!

We think we’ll apply for an ATF job. We can screw up until the cows come home and still get promotions.

Only in Obama’s world can you ignore the law by allowing illegal gun purchases, cheat by allowing the same guns to cross the border and go into the hands of Mexican drug cartels, kill, (a Border Patrol Agent was killed by one of the aforementioned firearms), lie about it to congress and then get that big, fat promotion!

atf-william-g-mcmahon
William McMahon says, "“I share responsibility for mistakes that were made." We say, "No shit, Sherlock."
The Los Angeles Times tells the tale:

The ATF has promoted three key supervisors of a controversial sting operation that allowed firearms to be illegally trafficked across the U.S. border into Mexico.

All three have been heavily criticized for pushing the program forward even as it became apparent that it was out of control. At least 2,000 guns were lost and many turned up at crime scenes in Mexico and two at the killing of a U.S. Border Patrol agent in Arizona.

So whom do we congratulate?

The three supervisors have been given new management positions at the agency’s headquarters in Washington. They are William G. McMahon, who was the ATF’s deputy director of operations in the West, where the illegal trafficking program was focused, and William D. Newell and David Voth, both field supervisors who oversaw the program out of the agency’s Phoenix office.

So what was the result of “Operation Fast and Furious?”

No cartel leaders were arrested.

We think we’ll apply for an ATF job. We can screw up until the cows come home and still get promotions.

Oh, wait. We already have those jobs. Except no one gets killed when we screw up on our current jobs.

Days of whine and neuroses: Obama says things were going swimmingly until we hit a streak of bad luck

No Barry, we have the bad luck of having a fool as president and dealt with it by erecting roadblocks to his destructive agenda.

How the mighty have fallen: the man who once said he could lower oceans and heal planets now carps about “bad luck” like some busted Vegas gambler calling mom for a loan. The old saw says it’s better to be lucky than good, but you’re really screwed if you ain’t either one.

obama-crying
"Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! It's not my fault."
Byron York explains the latest Presidential excuses:

“We had reversed the recession, avoided a depression, gotten the economy moving again,” Obama told a crowd in Decorah, Iowa.

Obama gave the zombie economy a quick fix of “Stimulus” meth, already wearing off when he dosed it with the Obamacare downer.

“But over the last six months we’ve had a run of bad luck.” Obama [blamed] the Arab Spring uprisings, the tsunami in Japan, and the European debt crises – [for setting] the economy back.

There are uprisings and natural disasters somewhere every year. The European “bad luck” has been unfolding since Fall 2009. Their impact increased proportionally with Obama’s need for excuses.

“Now, those are things that we can’t completely control. The question is, how do we manage these challenging times and do the right things when it comes to those things that we can control?”

We could try electing people who know what the hell they’re doing.

“The problem,” Obama continued, “is that we’ve got the kind of partisan brinksmanship that is willing to put party ahead of country, that is more interested in seeing their political opponents lose than seeing the country win.”

No Barry, we have the bad luck of having a fool as president and dealt with it by erecting roadblocks to his destructive agenda. The problem should be rectified by 2013, with any luck.

How Goodfellas kept us from acquiring a priceless Keith Olbermann memento

When we found out that Olbermann’s Golden Mike was for sale on eBay, we realized that we wanted it more than life itself.

Back in 1986 Keith Olbermann won a semi-prestigeous Golden Mike Award when he was a silly-looking sportscaster on KNX-TV in Los Angeles

Randy Kerdoon currently does news at KNX Newsradio in Los Angeles and he found a copy of Olbermann’s award in the trash bin when KNX was moving from one building to another.

keith-olbermann
Keith Olbermann, circa 1986: If there was ever a guy who looked like he should be delivering pizza in a bad porn movie, this is he

When we found out that Randy had offered the Golden Mike for sale on eBay, we realized that we wanted it more than life itself. After all, who wouldn’t want a little piece of a broadcasting legend like Olbermann.

We weren’t sure what we’d do with it, but there are always doors that need to be propped open and bugs that need to be squished, so we were pretty sure it would come in handy.

We were willing to go as high as $200. The bidding on eBay rapidly reached $129, but then just sat at that price day after day. The bidding was scheduled to end at about 4:40 p.m. last Sunday so we it flagged on our calendar, fully intending to swoop in at the last minute and place the winning bid.

Then we got busy watching Goodfellas on TV for the 27th time and just plain forgot about Olbermann’s award. Our computer was in the next room and we didn’t hear it beeping out its alerts and the damn award sold for the $129 ($145 including shipping).

LARadio.com reports the results of the auction:

The ‘Mike’ sold for over $145 including shipping to a Keith Olbermann fan in Texas. Her reason for buying it was touching. Seems she and her husband were watching Olbermann co-host the Vice-Presidential debates at night a few years ago. Her husband wasn’t feeling well. He excused himself to go to bed and told her as he left ‘now you just stay down here with Keith.’ He passed away the next day. So basically the last real conversation she had with her husband was about Keith Olbermann.

If the Editor dies tomorrow morning, Mrs Editor will remember that the last story he ever wrote was about Keith Olbermann.

Our post mortem advice: Don’t buy any old awards to commemorate the event, honey.

Researchers at Cornell create a wrinkle in time

Researchers at Cornell have designed, built and demonstrated the first “cloak” that hides events in time.

Science invents a cloak that can shield users from time?

Something tells us this story would have been good for that TV show “Ripley’s Believe it or Not!”. And not the lame remake with that former Superman actor. The cool one with Jack Palance.

helen-thomas
Talk about your wrinkles in time

Gizmodo revs this story up to 1.21 gigawatts for us:

Researchers at Cornell have designed, built and demonstrated the first “cloak” that hides events in time. The process relies on similar methods of distorting electromagnetic fields as invisibility cloaks, but it exploits a time-space duality in electromagnetic theory: diffraction and dispersion of light in space are mathematically equivalent. Scientists have used this theory to create a “time-lens [that] can, for example, magnify or compress in time”.

The time cloak takes two of those lenses and arranges them so that one compresses a beam of light while the other decompresses it. That leaves the beam seemingly unchanged, but the diffraction and dispersion actually “cloak” small events in the beam’s timeline. Right now, the cloak can only last for 120 nanoseconds, and the theoretical max for the current design measures just microseconds. But the prospect of being able to exist outside of time, even for just a few microseconds, should be enough to make even the most jaded tech nerd giggle at the possibilities.

A device that can compress or magnify time. Were not sure what that means exactly. But if it speeds up our journey to 01/20/13 we’re all for it.

Iowa crowd mistakes DNC chairwoman for Tea Partier and boos her

The gathering was dominated by conservatives determined to express their view of the hopelessness of change.

Our headline probably expresses how the White House and main stream media (pardon our redundancy) will portray Sunday’s appearance by DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman-Schultz at the Iowa State Fair.

Instead of the Obama campaign’s efforts to generate pro-administration astroturf, the gathering was dominated by conservatives determined to express their view of the hopelessness of change.

wasserman-schultz-iowa
Debbie Wasserman Schultz, just as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside

The Des Moines Register tells the tale:

[DNC] Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, spent 10 minutes this afternoon yelling over coordinated cheers and bipartisan jeers as she defended President Barack Obama’s record and called on voters to support him again in 2012.

Question: How does one spend 10 minutes defending Obama’s record? Answer: We’re not sure, but we imagine that it involves saying “Killed Bin Laden” about 200 times.

The large crowd was dominated by what appeared to be a coordinated group of Obama supporters carrying signs, wearing stickers and cheering loudly at each applause line. But amidst them were critics to both the right and left of Wasserman Schultz and the president.

Because the Obama supporters had walkie-talkies and printed scripts, this guy jumped to the conclusion their spontaneous outbursts were coordinated.

Between her defense of Democrats’ record and critiques of the Republican candidates’ policies … Wasserman Schultz called for Americans “come together” and move beyond divisive partisanship.

Obama flacks wanting to “move beyond divisive partisanship” is like bags of hammers wanting to move beyond stupid.

“We need a little unity in America right now, and that’s what Democrats have been committed to under President Obama’s leadership.”

The Democrats’ idea of unity is to call everyone who disagrees with them terrorists. Debbie says her party is “committed” and we think people with that attitude should be.

Israel: Oil vey

What would it mean to America if there were another Middle Eastern country that could produce oil on the Saudi Arabian scale?

What would it mean to America if there were another Middle Eastern country that could produce oil on the Saudi Arabian scale? We imagine that President Obama would want to fly over immediately and bow to its leader. Until, that is, he found out that country is Isreal.

Israel flag
Oil? The Israelis can get it for you wholesale

The Jerusalem Post reveals light in the desert:

…Dr. Yuval Bartov, chief geologist for Israel Energy Initiatives, … presented data that [Israel’s] oil shale reserves are actually the equivalent of 250 billion barrels (that compares with 260 billion barrels in the proven reserves of Saudi Arabia).

…As a consequence of these new estimates, we may emerge as the third largest deposit of oil shale, after the US and China.

.. new technologies, being developed for Israeli shale, seek to separate the oil from the shale rock 300 meters underground …

…The present goal is to produce commercial quantities of shale oil by the end of the decade.

…a unique method for separating oil from shale deep underground, [would change] the entire global oil market. The effect … would be to shift the center of gravity of world oil away from Iran, Saudi Arabia and the Persian Gulf to more stable states…

There’s little President Blowhard and his windy city gang can do. The oil market is world-wide. If one country shuns Israeli oil, another will buy it, forcing prices down.

Now that’s change we can really believe in.

California high-speed rail project over budget before single foot of track laid

Look up in the sky. It’s a bird! It’s a plane! No, it’s the cost of the first section of California’s proposed high-speed rail line! And its estimated costs are increasing faster than Obamacare waivers.

The Merced Sun-Star reveals the future and the losing thereof:

Building tracks for the first section of California’s proposed high-speed rail line will cost $2.9 billion to $6.8 billion more than originally estimated…

california-high-speed-rail
California High Speed Rail, designed to deliver the Golden State into bankruptcy even faster

A 2009 business plan … estimated costs at about $7.1 billion for the equivalent stretch of tracks. Officials say those estimates were made before detailed engineering work and feedback from communities along the proposed route.

OK, the data produced by the Magic 8-Ball was wrong.

The latest estimates are contained in two environmental impact studies…

Environmental impact studies have destroyed more infrastructure projects than the Luftwaffe.

The rail authority’s chief executive, Roelof van Ark, said planners anticipated the higher costs as more information about land acquisition and other details related to actual construction became known.

Planners knew their estimates were bogus but it’s raaaaacist to bother Obama when he’s playing with his trains.

“We’ve had cost increases, but I believe the costs are now realistic and fair,” he said.

Likely they are neither.

Van Ark also said he expects the estimated total cost of the project, originally pegged at $43 billion, to rise.

Why produce an estimate he knows is low? It’s a game. He estimates $43 billion knowing it’s actually $200 billion and will act surprised when it hits $500 billion. All for a project nobody but politicians actually wants.

But at least your destitute grandkids will have a nice train station to sleep in.

Green jobs withering up and dying in Massachusetts

There is no penalty for failure which explains why government “investments” usually do.

It’s a painful experience, both emotionally and financially, when you lose your job. However, given the chest pounding done by Gov. Deval Patrick (D-MA) and President Obama about the jobs “green energy” would create, we feel compelled to point out – because the MSM won’t – that the business world ain’t no country for old Marxist men.

evergreen-solar
Evergreen Solar soaked up government dollars instead of sunshine

The Boston Herald has the story:

Evergreen Solar Inc., the Marlboro clean-energy company that received millions in state subsidies to build an ill-fated Bay State factory, has filed for bankruptcy.

Evergreen, which closed its taxpayer-supported Devens factory in March and cut 800 jobs, has been trying to rework its debt for months.

The company also said it will lay off another 65 jobs in the United States and Europe, mostly through the shutdown of its Midland, Mich., manufacturing facility. That would leave Evergreen with about 68 workers according to a headcount listed in the bankruptcy filing.

Evergreen secured a $58 million financial aid package from the Patrick administration to help build the $450 million Devens factory. The state has been trying to recoup about $4 million in cash from the company, the once-promising poster child of the governor’s clean-energy economic agenda.

Evergreen makes solar panels – so do lots of Chinese companies that pay their workers lower wages and sell their panels at lower prices. In any commodity business, the low-cost producer always wins.

Evil, stupid private capital understands this, smart public-sector technocrats either don’t or just don’t care. Their attitude about taxpayer money is “there’s plenty more where that came from.”

There is no penalty for failure which explains why government “investments” usually do.

Irony meter explodes: Graduates sue law schools

Both sides better have good lawyers. It sounds like they can use the work.

The old joke said lawyers swimming in the ocean needn’t worry about sharks because the predators never attack one of their own. Besides killing retirements and jobs, today’s Hope It Changes economy is retiring lots of old jokes and not just the old jokes in Congress.

ambulance-chasers
Too few ambulances, too many ambulance chasers

Reuters has the story:

… two class-action suits were filed by graduates of New York Law School … and Thomas M. Cooley Law School … amid growing scrutiny over whether law schools across the country are deliberately concealing the truth about their graduates’ employment and salary in order to enroll more students despite their dismal job prospects.

Suggestion: Michelle said she and Barack shunned lucrative corporate jobs in favor of community service. Considering all the free travel, housing, vacations, and all the food she can eat, you’d have to say the community serves them pretty well.

Among the tactics allegedly employed by the schools were misclassifying graduates with temporary or part-time jobs as “fully” employed, omitting information about graduates who didn’t respond to employment surveys, and creating post-graduate job programs to hire their own graduates.

The Stimulus and Obamacare, both designed by lawyers, were also surrounded by phony claims. Must be part of the curriculum.

“The law school industry today is much like a game of three-card monte, with law schools flipping over ace after ace, while a phalanx of non-suspecting players wager mostly borrowed money based on asymmetrical information on a game few of them can win,” according to the New York lawsuit.

Both sides better have good lawyers. It sounds like they can use the work.

How bad is the economy? Obama’s no longer wants a daily economic briefing.

This is the Presidential equivalent of a kid blocking out bad news by putting his hands over his ears and saying, “Blah-blah-blah-blah-blah.”

President Obama’s been simultaneously abandoned by his crack team of economic advisors (otherwise known as the clowns who got us into this mess) and by his courage.

obama-economic-team
Ahhh, the good ol' days when President Obama had a full team of so-called economic advisors

The Los Angeles Times has the details:

“When you ask about the economic team, it’s kind of like, ‘What economic team?’” said Edward Mills, a financial policy analyst with FBR Capital Markets. “They are very thin at a very critical time.”

The administration needs all the firepower it can muster, experts said. Yet the team is missing a key messenger in selling Obama’s policies. The post of chairman of the Council of Economic Advisors — an influential position — is vacant and is likely to remain so at least into the fall.

Perhaps more telling, there no longer is a formal economic briefing in the Oval Office every morning, a gathering in which Summers, Romer, Geithner and other key advisors assessed the data and batted around ideas with Obama.

We believe there was an error in the transcript. Instead of “batted around ideas” it should have read “discussed batty ideas.”

If Democrat Jerrold Nadler has his way, we won’t have any of those nasty partisan fights about the debt limit in the future. Because he’s busy writing a bill that will solve the problem by simply doing away with the debt limit.

Voila! Spend as much as you want, President Obama.

jerrold-nadler
Looks like Rep. Nadler also has an unlimited line of credit at the buffet line

The Hill has the details:

Calling the debt limit “truly arbitrary” while blasting Republicans for playing a “dangerous game of chicken” with it, the liberal congressman said Wednesday he was drafting a bill to eliminate it.

“Let us abolish the debt ceiling, which has become a serious threat to our economic future and a pawn for Republicans intent on holding the economy hostage to impose their own extreme agenda,” he said in a statement.

Nadler also set his sights on credit-rating agency Standard & Poor’s, which last Friday issued the first ever downgrade of the nation’s once-sterling credit rating, setting off a tumultuous few days for financial markets.

No debt limit. It’s like having an open bar at an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting.

You know things aren’t going well for Obama when the Huffington Post slams his job record

Here’s a Huffington Post-produced video that attacks President Obama’s so-called laser-like focus on jobs. And a tasty little morsel it is.

You don’t have to go to the highlands of New Guinea to find contemporary cases of cannibalism. No, you simply have to go the pages of the Huffington Post, where liberals are now consuming other liberals.

For example, here’s a Huffington Post-produced video that attacks President Obama’s so-called laser-like focus on jobs.

And a tasty little morsel it is.

Duck down under

It’s good to watch foreign news teams in action every so often, just to show us what’s possible and what we’re missing.

Morning television news fare in the United States is so bland and politically correct, it’s a wonder any of us manages to wake up and get to work. Ann Curry talking about the debt limit? Al Roker warning us about global warming during a summer heat wave? Puh-leeze.

That’s why it’s good to watch foreign news teams in action every so often, just to show us what’s possible and what we’re missing.

In this clip, Australian morning host Karl Stefanovic starts out by making fun of his own pre-written over-wrought introduction to a story about a possible shark in a lake. Then, when the on-scene reporter takes a fishing pole and casts his line into the lake in a theatrical attempt at catching the non-existent shark, he somehow hooks a duck instead.

Imagine the faux concern we would have gotten from Ann Curry about the poor duck. Imagine the ensuing PETA statement and network investigation and assurances that the duck was treated and released by a licensed vet.

What did the Aussies do? They laughed their asses off. Karl Stefanovic even made a joke about Peking Duck being available to interested viewers.

Badda bing: “Obama is anti-E F Hutton. When he speaks no one listens”

Charles Krauthammer nails it again. No other talking head can match the man’s ability to distill it all down to a few simple, memorable words.

Charles Krauthammer nails it again. No other talking head can match the man’s ability to distill it all down to a few simple, memorable words.

“Well, we were talking here about how detached and disengaged he appears and how disturbing it is particularly for Obama’s allies in the press. But the irony is that even if he were undetached and concerned and involved the markets have shown that he is the anti-E. F. Hutton – when he speaks no one listens. The markets take no notice whatsoever of what he does and the reason is because he has no idea. He’s out of bullets. He’s out of arrows. He doesn’t have a clue.”

He doesn’t even have a clue where he might find a clue. He’s cluelessly clueless.

And just in case you’re too young to understand the E. F. Hutton reference, here’s one of their commercials from the late 70s or early 80s.

Michele Bachmann finds out how inexpensive it is to buy a rock ‘n roll star

Rock ‘n roll star Tom Petty, a good liberal, was pissed off when he found out that Michele Bachmann was using his song, American Girl, as part of her campaign.

How much does it cost to get a rock ‘n roll star to sell out? Oooh, those guys get their money for nothin’ and their chicks for free, so it must be really expensive.

It's a fight to the finish. It's a battle royal. It's a knock-down, drag out...never mind

The Guardian UK offers the details:

Tom Petty has told US presidential candidate Michele Bachmann to stop using one of his songs as part of her campaign, insisting he did not give the rightwing politician permission. Within 24 hours of the televised launch of Bachmann’s 2012 campaign, Petty’s lawyers reportedly pounced on the press-conference soundtrack, which used the song American Girl as exit music.

“Petty isn’t pleased,” reported NBC’s Kelly O’Donnell, while Rolling Stone confirmed the singer’s lawyers had sent the Minnesota congresswoman a cease and desist order. It’s not even the first bump of Bachmann’s campaign: during her announcement speech, the Tea Party supporter confused the birthplace of actor John Wayne with that of serial killer John Wayne Gacy.

Petty’s problem appears to be with Bachmann’s politics. In 2008, the singer allowed Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton to use American Girl for her unsuccessful presidential bid.

Uh-oh. Tom Petty is pissed off. Hell hath no fury like a liberal rock ‘n roll singer. He has all the money in the world, so this should be an ugly battle. Or maybe not.

Politico reveals the outcome of the dust up:

It looks like Michele Bachmann can remain an “American Girl” — she paid fees to two music licensing companies at the end of June, according to her latest campaign finance report. Bachmann shelled out a total of $900 to the American Society of Composers and Broadcast Music, Inc., in separate payments on June 28.

$900. 900 measly dollars? That’s all it takes to buy off a rich. liberal rock ‘n roll singer?

This is like the old joke about the guy who’s sitting next to the beautiful woman in a bar. They’re hitting it off and the conversation is going well when he says, “Let me ask you a question. Would you have sex with me for $10,000,000.”

“Well,” she says. “I guess I would. That’s a lot of money.”

“Great,” he says. “Would you have sex with me for ten dollars?”

Horrified, she says, “Absolutely not. What do you think I am, some kind of whore?”

“We’ve already determined that,” he says. “Now we’re just negotiating the price.”

Tom Petty. $900 whore.
