Obama now blaming Congress for his mess

Andy Warhol once said that someday everyone will have fame for 15 minutes. Barack Obama’s version seems to be that everyone will get blamed for 15 minutes. After Bush, tsunamis, earthquakes, Greeks bearing debts and Tea Parties, the Scapegoater-in-Chief pointed his nicotine-stained fingers at the Congress his party half controls.

obama-congress
Make no mistake, Obama isn't upset with all of Congress

We get the story from Commentary Magazine:

President Obama blasted Congress from the road on Thursday, saying things would be worse if lawmakers returned to Washington.

“From the road” reminds us of the punk kid who used to call us names from inside his house.

“There is nothing wrong with our country,” Obama said in a speech at a Holland, Mich., plant. “There is something wrong with our politics.”

Sure, and that something is Barack Obama.

Obama did not single out Republicans or Democrats, but blasted Congress for what he said had been “the worst part of partisanship, the worst part of gridlock.”

The White House is the better part of the partisanship and gridlock.

“There are some in Congress right now who would rather see their opponents lose than America win,” Obama said. “And that’s got to stop.”

Straw men take cover, false choices incoming!

“That’s why people are frustrated,” Obama said. “Maybe you hear it in my voice. It’s why I’m frustrated. Because you deserve better.”

Barry’s frustrated because he’s not getting his way. We’re frustrated because he won’t get out of the way.

Deserve better you do, but unfortunately Obama’s president until January 2013 unless Congress can overcome stupid partisanship and gridlock and get rid of him.

New poll shows Americans agree Tea Party members are terrorists

A recent Rasmussen poll reveals a whopping 29% of Americans agree, while a small group (55%) apparently didn’t hear the question:

Commodore John Kerry and David Astroturf … er … Axelrod tell us that, unlike man-caused-disaster making freedom-fighters of ambiguous religious persuasion, Tea Party types are terrorists.

A recent Rasmussen poll reveals a whopping 29% of Americans agree, while a small group (55%) apparently didn’t hear the question:

tea-party-terrorists
Those Tea Party terrorists scare the hell out of Democrats and the media

Fifty-five percent (55%) of Likely U.S. Voters … say members of the Tea Party are not economic terrorists. A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that just 29% believe Tea Party members have been terrorists during the budget debates, while another 16% are undecided.

Wait! So by nearly 2-to-1, likely voters DON’T think Tea Party members are terrorists? Strange we didn’t see that in the media….

… 53% of Democrats view Tea Party members as terrorists, 57% of voters not affiliated with either major party disagree, as do 74% of Republicans.

… 60% of those in the Mainstream don’t see members of the Tea Party as economic terrorists. The Political Class is almost evenly divided on the question.

Democrats and the Political Class seem to think along the same lines. What a surprise.

….85% of the Political Class feel the Tea Party has made things worse for the country in terms of the budget debate. Mainstream voters by a 40% to 33% margin tend to think the Tea Party has made things better.

Voters feel more strongly than ever that decreasing government spending is good for the economy and think tax increases of any kind are bad….

Feckless political class types like Kerry and Axelrod are terrified their con game is in jeopardy. Terrorism, it seems, is in the eye of the beholder.

Reporter refuses to believe London store owner wasn’t attacked by white people

When the media reports that “youths” are rioting in London they omit the fact that they are primarily “minority” youths. No, they just can’t bring themselves to say it.

When the media reports that “youths” are rioting in London they omit the fact that they are primarily “minority” youths. No, they just can’t bring themselves to inject that note of race into the discussion.

Here’s a clip in which a British reporter is appalled when store owner Big Jim says he found “at least 100 black youths” looting shops in his neighborhood:

Reporter: “You’re not being stereotypical there?”
Big Jim: “No, absolutely…”
Reporter: “Are you sure that they were black? I’m sure they weren’t all black, were they?”
Big Jim: ”OK, then. Let me just say they weren’t all black. I was the white guy there.”
Reporter: “Well, there were probably other white guys there as well.”
Big Jim: “I didn’t see any.”

Tea Partiers. Yeah, that’s the answer. These rioters were probably members of the Tea Party. Everyone knows how violence prone they are.

Global warming update: Mad Max 4 filming delayed because Australia’s too green and pastoral

It’s a global warming tragedy that Australia’s been cursed with such abundant rain that the surrounding hillsides have exploded in grass and flowers.

Tim Flannery is Australia’s version of Al Gore. By that we don’t mean that he’s an overweight guy who’s screwing the wives of his Hollywood buddies. Not at all. Tim Flannery couldn’t get laid in a whorehouse with a fistful of fifties.

But he is the Aussie pied piper of global warming. He comes up with one wild global warming prediction after another and none of them – repeat, none of them – ever come true.

broken-hill
Broken Hill normally looks like the perfect location for a Mad Max sequel, but not this year

For example, he forecast that Australian rain would become a thing of the past, that its rivers would stop flowing, that its water supplies would dry up and that its land would die.

As ABC Australia reports, the producers of Max Max 4 are now thinking, “If only.”

The highly anticipated fourth movie in the Mad Max series will no longer be filmed in Broken Hill in New South Wales’s far west, despite years of preparation.

Kennedy Miller Mitchell (KMM), the production company behind Mad Max: Fury Road, says the area around Broken Hill is too green for the post-apocalyptic film.

Filming on the movie, which will star Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron, was meant to begin early next year after already being delayed twice because of weather…

Broken Hill Mayor Wincen Cuy says the council understands the decision.
“This decision has been 12 months now in the making and I believe it hasn’t been taken lightly,” he said.

“It is a tragedy that it can’t, but nature has caused it, nothing other than nature has caused it.

Yes, indeed, Mayor Cuy. It’s a damn tragedy your town won’t be blessed with the wonders that come with a Hollywood production crew and yet another tragedy that it’s been cursed with such abundant rain that the surrounding hillsides have exploded in grass and flowers.

A tragedy indeed.

Just ask Tim Flannery.

Neil Cavuto’s tax reform plan: What about the 51% who pay no taxes?

Neil Cavuto argues that the intelligent way to raise revenue is to squeeze a few tax dollars out of the millions of Americans who currently get a free ride.

Neil Cavuto treated Democrat Rep. Steve Cohen like a bulldog treats a bone. He latched onto the Congressman with his teeth and wouldn’t let go, arguing that the intelligent way to raise revenue is to squeeze a few tax dollars out of the millions of Americans who currently get a free ride.

Mediaite has the details:

Rep. Cohen came on the program and argued that a tax reform bill without revenue increases was near worthless, and railing against the “intransigence” of the Tea Party. Cavuto wasn’t buying any of that, however, telling him that when he “said shared sacrifice… none of you ever mention the 51% of Americans that don’t pay taxes at all.” Rep. Cohen argued that that’s “not the issue” and, anyway, “most of those people don’t have any money” to pay taxes with, and argument Cavuto described as a “red herring” since there were far more people not paying taxes than small corporations getting breaks. “Before you start demanding that some people pay more, maybe get everyone to put skin in the game?” he offered.

Cavuto continued his bulldog impression:

“You keep hitting up the same group and you leave more than half the people in this country out of it entirely.” Rep. Cohen argued that it made no sense to make people who had little money pay taxes. “You go where the money is,” he argued, asking facetiously if, instead of banks, they should go after pawn shops. “It’s not balanced when you leave a whole group out,” Cavuto concluded, exasperatedly. “It drives me nuts.”

As Mrs Editor said, “We need a flat tax. Everyone pays the same percentage no matter how much they make.”

Let’s put your hands together for the lovely and effervescent Mrs Editor.

I thought I was tilting at windmills until I discovered my new cultural and hair hero, the Florida congresswoman and chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee, Debbie Wasserman Schultz…

Politics aside, I love the congresswoman’s guts in not bowing to the vast Blowout Conspiracy. Sometimes she’s got those blonde waves, sometimes she’s got pin-curls, but I’ve never seen her on a Sunday morning chat show with helmet hair. Al Sharpton, the greatest entertainer in the history of television

We find ourselves tuning in nightly just to see what Al will screw up beyond all recognition.

We invite you to watch that moment from Tuesday night’s show. And we challenge you (a) to figure out what the hell he’s saying, and (b) not to laugh out loud.

Tax the rich (liberals), a change we can believe in!

Glenn Reynolds urges restoration of an excise tax on movie theaters’ gross revenues enacted briefly after WWII.

President Sandtrap and his White House of Horrors insist tax increases are needed to dig the nation’s golf ball out of the divot he’s hacked. Believe it or not, there’s one revenue-raising plan we endorse.

Glenn Reynolds urges restoration of an excise tax on movie theaters’ gross revenues enacted briefly after WWII:

dwight-d-eisenhower
Eisenhower was not only a better President than Obama, he was a better golfer

[Republicans should] be agitating to repeal the “Eisenhower tax cut” on the movie industry and restore the excise tax… [as well as] look at imposing similar taxes on sales of DVDs, pay-per-view movies, CDs, downloadable music, and related products.

I’d also look at the tax and accounting treatment of these industries to see if they were taking advantage of any special “loopholes” that could be closed as a means of reducing “tax expenditures.” (Answer: Yes, they are.)

Mr. Reynolds highlights another rich vein of spreadable wealth to mine:

Obamacare drafters went to work for the health care industry at inflated salaries. And drafters of the Dodd-Frank financial bill have gone on to big-shot lobbying and consulting jobs at high salaries.

Because much of their value to their employers comes from their prior government service, I think that the taxpayers deserve a share of the return, say in the form of a 50 percent surtax on any earnings by political appointees in excess of their prior government salaries for the first five years after they leave office.

Why stop there? We’d also like to see a tax on the fair market value of all travel, vacations, parties, etc, taken at public expense by President Obama and Congress (i.e. the guys who fly around on corporate jets they don’t pay for) deducted from their paychecks.

That’s what we call “shared sacrifice”.

Somebody saw it coming: Mystery figure pockets nearly a billion dollars betting on US downgrade. Was it Soros?

A mystery investor or hedge fund reportedly made a bet of almost $1billion at odds of 10/1 last month that the U.S. would lose its AAA credit rating.

It seems that somebody somewhere made an awful lot of money making betting that the United States would lose its AAA credit rating.

Not surprisingly some are suggesting that George Soros might be that somebody. What is surprising, however, is that so many considered this eventuality to be a longshot.

george-soros
A billion here, a billion there and pretty soon you're talking about big money

For more we go to the UK via The Daily Mail:

A mystery investor or hedge fund reportedly made a bet of almost $1billion at odds of 10/1 last month that the U.S. would lose its AAA credit rating.

Now questions are being asked of whether the trader had inside information before placing the $850million bet in the futures market, or if the bet happened at all.

There were mounting rumours that investor George Soros, 80, famously known as ‘the man who broke the Bank of England’, could be involved.

Was it him? George Soros, 80, has been mentioned as potentially being the mystery investor who won a $1billion bet that the credit rating would fall

He made more than $1billion on currency speculation when the British pound left the Exchange Rate Mechanism on Black Wednesday in 1992.

And while it is not a certainty that George Soros was behind this one thing is abundantly clear. Whoever made all this money betting against the health of the U.S. economy has just about as much faith in Obamanomics as we do.

Joe Scarborough may be a jack Republican, but he occasionally suffers flashbacks to his life before MSNBC and inexplicably sounds like a conservative. Or at least a realist.

Enjoy this moment of clarity:

Joe: A president that cannot control 45 backbenchers in the opposing Party in the House of Representatives is too weak to be President of the United States. It is that simple. Lyndon Johnson would have eaten these people up for breakfast and spit them out before lunch.
Mika: Okay. These people though are the very people that I think don’t care…
Joe: Ronald Reagan wouldn’t put up, I mean, a strong leader doesn’t put up with it.
Mika: …about…
Joe: It doesn’t matter whether they care or not. You make them irrelevant to the process if you’re strong enough to do that.

You’re forgiven if you made the mistake of thinking that an experienced community organizer would have done a better job organizing the opposition.

NOW, an organization that has received some criticism for its deafening silence when prominent conservative women like former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin are lampooned in the national press, has come out strongly against the depiction of Rep. Bachmann as the “Queen of Rage.”

“Who has ever called a man ‘The King of Rage?,’ NOW president Terry O’Neil told TheDC. “The ‘Queen of Rage’ is something you apply to wrestlers or somebody who is crazy. They didn’t even do this to Howard Dean when he had his famous scream.”

Sounds like Tim Geithner, Ben Bernanke and Barack Obama are in charge of carbon offsets, too

Put the printing presses in high gear. More dollars. More carbon offsets. More opinions from Al Gore. More of everything no one wants.

According to Al Gore, the creation of a carbon offset market is the magical solution to all our global warming problems. Create an American market similar to Europe’s and global warming will be halted in its tracks. And if a billion or two extra dollars should happen to end up in the Goracle’s pocket, well, that’s something that just can’t be avoided.

al-gore-money
What we need more than a carbon offset market is a bullshit offset market

Just one thing: The European market doesn’t work any better than the crystal ball Gore used to predict global warming.

Reuters has the details:

Carbon offsets neared all-time lows Friday, confirming their status as the world’s worst performing commodity, as slumping demand meets rising supply of the U.N. instrument traded under the Kyoto Protocol.

Rising supply amid slumping demand? This sounds like the United States dollar under Geithner, Bernanke and Obama.

Carbon offsets have fared uniquely badly because a U.N. climate panel continues to print new offsets, regardless of a widening glut in emissions permits in the main demand market, the European Union’s carbon market.

Put the printing presses in high gear. More dollars. More carbon offsets. More opinions from Al Gore. More of everything no one wants.

Testy Bob Schieffer to David Axelrod: “Is this going to be a one term presidency?”

Will wonders never cease? Bob Schieffer almost acted like a impartial journalist Monday during an interview with Obama campaign advisor David Axelrod.

Will wonders never cease? Bob Schieffer almost acted like a impartial journalist Monday during an interview with Obama campaign advisor David Axelrod.

Schieffer started by playing a three-year old clip of Obama saying that he’d be a one-term president if economic conditions are still bad three years later. In other words, now. He followed up by asking Axelrod, “Is this going to be a one-term presidency?”

Mediaite spells out that Axelrod was visibly uneasy during the back-and-forth:

Axelrod: “We are in a different place than we were the day he did that interview.”

Schieffer: “We are, things are worse than they were.”

And after Axelrod elaborated with a meandering answer, Schieffer interrupted his “extended response” and respectfully suggested he “stop talking about what the election is going to be about.” Instead Schieffer focused on what could be done now, and wondered whether he was wrong to think that nothing would get accomplished before the election. Axelrod politely informed him that yes, he was wrong, and that big things can still be accomplished. However, Schieffer’s visible skepticism and agitation with some of Axelrod’s long-winded responses suggest that Schieffer, like many Americans, may be eager for results.

Eager? Bob Schieffer eager? That’s an understatement. He’s as invested in Obama as any journalist and he sees his investment going down the drain faster than Bank of America stock.

Frequent IHateTheMedia.com commenter and occasional contributor Perlcat once again hops up on his soapbox and vents his spleen:

I just ran across a fascinating donk article in the New York Times that seemed worried about Barry becoming the new Jimmy.

No shit, Sherlock, in so many ways. There are just so very many great lines in this article:

barack-mirror-carter
What you see is what you get: Barry has become Jimmy

Democratic lawmakers worry that the Tea Party freshmen have already ‘neutered’ the president, as one told me.

No, Moochelle already did that.

They fret that Obama is an inept negotiator.

Howling with laughter, that’s me!

More and more, 2008 looks like the tulip mania.

She means the “tulip mania” that left Holland devastated, not the nasty place Barry put his two lips on that trip.

They yearned to see the president beat the political suicide bombers over the head with the Constitution.

That would be the only possible use the “constitutional lawyer” has for it. He certainly hasn’t made himself familiar with its contents.

These paragraphs delight me:

Consider what the towel-snapping Tea Party crazies have already accomplished. They’ve changed the entire discussion. They’ve neutralized the White House. They’ve whipped their leadership into submission.

They’ve taken taxes and revenues off the table. They’ve withered the stock and bond markets. They’ve made journalists speak to them as though they’re John Calhoun and Alexander Hamilton.

Obama and John Boehner have been completely outplayed by the “hobbits,” as The Wall Street Journal and John McCain called them.

I especially love the last paragraph of the article:

What if this is all a cruel joke on us? What if the people who hate government are good at it and the people who love government are bad at it?

The essence of good government is summed up by one of their own, Thoreau: “That government is best which governs least.” So, yes, by that definition, the TEA party members are the ones best at government.

No shit, Sherlock. I never thought I’d ever read a Dowd column that wasn’t fit only to wipe my a** with.

Blind sow, meet ACORN.

Al Gore gets all hot and bothered during global warming speech

The Goracle put on one of his patented “I’m so angry I could spit” performances and even threw in a few special words to show just how angry he is.

The robot that breathes has developed emotions

The Colorado Independent was there to record them for posterity:

“They pay pseudo-scientists to pretend to be scientists to put out the message: ‘This climate thing, it’s nonsense. Man-made CO2 doesn’t trap heat. It may be volcanoes.’ Bullshit! ‘It may be sun spots.’ Bullshit! ‘It’s not getting warmer.’ Bullshit!” Gore exclaimed.

And he wasn’t done. No, he was just getting warmed up about global warming deniers:

“When you go and talk to any audience about climate, you hear them washing back at you the same crap over and over and over again,” he continued. “There’s no longer a shared reality on an issue like climate even though the very existence of our civilization is threatened. People have no idea! … It’s no longer acceptable in mixed company, meaning bipartisan company, to use the goddamn word climate. It is not acceptable. They have polluted it to the point where we cannot possibly come to an agreement on it.”

What caused Al to get so het up? No one knows for sure, but we can imagine the following scene:

Laurie David is curled up next to the Goracle in bed in their luxurious suite after the speech. Little beads of sweat are forming on her brow. She gives out an involuntary gasp and says, “Oh, Albert. I know I’m just contributing to global warming and that’s against everything we believe in, but it makes me sooooo hot when you talk all manly-like during your speeches.”

And Al smiles and thinks to himself, “Imagine that. I’m doing Larry David’s wife and saving the planet simultaneously. I am a global warming stud.”

Obama says he promised change, but what’s your damn hurry?

Yes, it has been a tough journey, made even tougher by the presence of so-called leaders like Obama, Reid and Pelosi.

America was built by people who solved problems. Not silly problems like what wine to order with cheeseburgers but real life and death issues such as those faced by the early colonists, the pioneers who opened the west or the soldiers who landed in places like Iwo Jima and Normandy.

So why the hell did we elect a petulant whiner to lead (?) a country like this?

obama-change
"What's all this talk about change," the President asked

Real Clear Politics has an excerpt of President Boo Hoo’s speech at a recent fundraiser (what else?):

“It’s been a long, tough journey. But we have made some incredible strides together. Yes, we have. But the thing that we all ought to remember is that as much as good as we have done, precisely because the challenges were so daunting, precisely because we we were inheriting so many challenges, that we’re not even halfway there yet. When I said ‘change we can believe in’ I didn’t say ‘change we can believe in tomorrow.’ Not change we can believe in next week. We knew this was going to take time because we’ve got this big, messy, tough democracy,” President Obama said at a campaign fundraiser in Chicago on Wednesday night.

Yes, it has been a tough journey, made even tougher by the presence of so-called leaders like Obama, Reid and Pelosi. And despite daunting “challenges” (like finding something new to blame for his messes) Obama has delivered change. Change for the worse.

He’s also right that we are a big, messy, tough democracy which hopefully still has enough gumption to admit its mistakes and correct them in 2012.

Harry Reid’s political posturing bites him (and all of us) in the ass

So whose fault is the recent downgrade? Is it the Tea Party’s as spin masters David Axelrod and John Kerry are expounding? Or is it that crazy old coot Harry Reid in the Senate?

So whose fault is the recent downgrade? Is it the Tea Party’s as spin masters David Axelrod and John Kerry are expounding? Or is it that crazy old coot in the Senate who was recently waxing poetic about his pomegranate trees or some damn thing?

harry-reid-barack-obama
Reid: "How long do you think we can fool 'em, Barry?" Obama: "Just keep wavin' and smilin', Harry."

Reuters outlines how Reid’s political posturing back in December of last year prevented the timely address of the debt ceiling problem:

The reason we’re hitting the debt ceiling, remember, is that the budget passed by both Republicans and Democrats forces us to do so. As a result, the obvious time and place to raise the debt ceiling is when you pass the budget. This isn’t just obvious now, it was obvious then. And the person who thought it was a bad idea? Harry Reid.

Ol’ Harry expressed that very thought back in 2010:

Reid also said that he would like to push off raising the debt ceiling until next year — when Republicans control the House, but that he has not discussed the matter yet with his caucus.

“Let the Republicans have some buy-in on the debt. They’re going to have a majority in the House,” said Reid. “I don’t think it should be when we have a heavily Democratic Senate, heavily Democratic House and a Democratic president.”

Keep in mind, Reid didn’t want the Republicans to join the fun as any kind of gesture of good will or across the aisle ass kissing. No, he simply didn’t want to provide Republicans with another club with which to beat not only Obama, but any other Democrat running for re-election in 2012.

Reuters sums up Reid’s leadership failures as follows:

Forcing a majority-Republican House to vote to raise the debt ceiling might have seemed like a good idea at the time. But it’s not exactly the epitome of leadership. Indeed, it seems to have led the country straight into something which risks being downright catastrophic.

So it seems that President Obama isn’t the only Democrat capably of destroying the economy all by his lonesome. Harry Reid is a close second and coming on strong.

Architect of our economic doom: We’re “pretty darn f-cked”

Only hours after S&P downgraded the U.S. for the first time in history, a former Obama economic adviser summarized the situation in a colorful way.

It’s always nice to see the person who caused your problems laughing at those problems. In this case we refer to Christine Romer, the first chair of President Obama’s Council of Economic Advisers.

ABC’s Jake Tapper reports the annoying news:

Only hours after Standard & Poor’s downgraded the credit worthiness of the U.S. for the first time in history, a former Obama economic adviser summarized the situation in a colorful way.

The U.S. is “pretty darn fu**ed,” said Christine Romer, President Obama’s first chair of the White House Council of Economic Advisers.

Appearing on HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher”, Ms. Romer was asked about what the downgrade means for the U.S. economy. Romer’s profanity followed a clip for a segment on Maher’s show called “How Fucked Are We?”

An amused Maher paused to let the audience enjoy what Romer had said. After all, it’s not everyday that a professor and former White House staffer swears on live cable.

Of course, as Rush Limbaugh always says, “Failure is a resume enhancement for liberals.” Romer left the Obama administration to disseminate her left wing lunacy to eager young liberal ears at UC Berkeley.

Here’s Romer back in 2009 telling Fox News’ Chris Wallace that she’s “absolutely confident” her economic policies will work in a year.

Unfortunately, she was wrong is 2009, but right in 2011.

John Kerry: You know what would be really fair? If the media stopped covering the Tea Party, that’s what

Senator John Kerry suggested that the media is toooooo balanced and should correct that problem by forgetting that the Tea Party exists.

Morning Joe is where liberal politicians go to spew their venom in a cool, calm, generally unchallenged atmosphere. Take, for instance, this clip of Senator John Kerry suggesting that the media is toooooo balanced and should correct that problem by forgetting that the Tea Party exists.

Kerry: “And I have to tell you, I say this to you politely. The media in America has a bigger responsibility than it’s exercising today. The media has got to to begin to not give equal time or equal balance to an absolutely absurd notion just because somebody asserts it or simply because somebody says something which everybody knows is not factual.

“It doesn’t deserve the same credit as a legitimate idea about what you do. And the problem is everything is put into this tit-for-tat equal battle and America is losing any sense of what’s real, of who’s accountable, of who is not accountable, of who’s real, who isn’t, who’s serious, who isn’t?”

He’s not only a horse face, but a horse’s ass.
