Unemployment uh-oh: 9.2% may be the low-water mark

Business Insider discusses government policies affecting small business that mean high unemployment may be a long-term problem.

Economists are a notoriously disagreeable bunch, but even they agree small businesses produce most of the country’s new jobs, about 2/3 to be exact. Our engine of job growth is currently stuck in neutral.

Business Insider discusses government policies affecting small business that mean high unemployment may be a long-term problem:

unemployment-obama

The high costs of cartel healthcare, a.k.a. Sickcare in the U.S.

Obamacare’s mandates discourages both formation of new businesses and additional hiring by existing ones.

Politicos and employees don’t understand small business.

Businesses are owners’ livelihoods, not vehicles for “feel good” social policies of meddling politicians. Enterprises hire because demand justifies the extra help, not because some nitwit in DC offers them a tax credit.

Local government views small business as tax donkeys…. a captive source of extra revenue via higher licensing fees, junk fees, permits, surcharges, etc …local politicos and fiefdoms are forgetting every small business owner has an option: it’s called closing down, and opting out of the rat-race of higher taxes and costs.

States like California ostentatiously form “fact finding” panels to figure out why businesses are leaving. The pols should just go home and look in the mirror.

Litigation nation. Employees and others can take a turn at the lawsuit lottery wheel, and if they “win” then you lose.

Lawyers are a big Democrat special-interest group, but where do the parasites eat once the host dies?

We don’t expect any of this to change until Barack “Not My Fault” Obama joins the ranks of overpaid government retirees. Hopefully in January 2013.

Say it ain’t so O: Emails show White House has anti-Fox bias

We are shocked – shocked, we tell you – to find out that the White House has an anti-Fox News bias.

We must admit a bit of discombobulation this morning. Just as Captain Renault was shocked (shocked) to find out there was gambling at Rick’s Cafe Americain we are shocked – shocked, we tell you – to find out that the White House has an anti-Fox News bias.

white-house-sunset
Sure as the sun sets in the west, the White House fears Fox News

Fox reports, we deride:

Internal Obama administration emails obtained by Judicial Watch provide evidence that FNC was specifically singled out for exclusion. According to one October 22, 2009, email exchange between Dag Vega, Director of Broadcast Media on the White House staff, to Jenni LeCompte, then-Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs in the Treasury Department, Vega informs LeCompte that “…we’d prefer if you skip Fox please.”

Regarding general anti-FNC bias within the Obama White House in an October 23, 2009, email exchange between Jennifer Psaki, Deputy White House Communications Director and LeCompte, Psaki writes, “I am putting some dead fish in the fox cubby – just cause.” In an email on the night of October 22, 2009, commenting on a report by Fox News Channel anchor Bret Baier noting the exclusion of the network from the pool, Psaki writes to Compte and fellow White House colleagues, “…brett baier just did a stupid piece on it — but he is a lunatic.”

Guess we now know why Obama never funneled any TARP funds to Fox’s parent company and even expected them to pay their taxes last year.

Three sons strangle mom on Christmas, bury her in back yard because she wanted to play Yahtzee

Tamara Lee Mason wanted to play Yahtzee, but now her sons may get Life.

Tamara Lee Mason wanted to play Yahtzee, but now her sons may get Life. (Get it? It was a play on the name of the board game called Life. Damn it. We hate it when we have to explain ‘em.)

But let’s get back to the story as told by the Minneapolis Star Tribune:

yahtzee-killers
Good thing mom didn't suggest Trivial Pursuit, because the boys really hate that game

Tamara Lee Mason wanted to play Yahtzee with her three sons after they all returned home from Christmas dinner at a friend’s. When the boys wouldn’t, she got mad, grabbed a few things and stormed out of the house.

Well, that may be the story the three sons are telling, but police aren’t buying it. They say Dylan Clemens, 25 and his half-brothers Andrew Cobb, 18, and Jacob Cobb, 17, committed matricide.

Mason’s decomposing remains were found Thursday buried in the back yard of her home in Alberta, a town of about 130 people in far western Minnesota.

The charges said Jacob Cobb strangled his mother on the living room floor. Then he or his brother Andrew put a plastic bag over her head and tightened a belt around her neck. Clemens allegedly drove her body west to South Dakota, then east to Glenwood, Minn., before storing the corpse in a garbage can in a shed for months until the ground thawed enough for the two elder brothers to bury it.

To repeat: they strangled her, then put a plastic bag over her head and tightened a belt around her neck.

Dylan said, “Mom always said that a job worth doing is a job worth doing right.”

OK, he didn’t really say that but we kind of wish he had.

Coming Monday: America’s top ten local talk show hosts

Coming Monday: IHateTheMedia.com rates America’s top ten local talk show hosts – people you’d love to listen to, but can’t hear in your town.

Coming Monday: IHateTheMedia.com rates America’s top ten local talk show hosts – people you’d love to listen to, but can’t hear in your town. We’ll start with #10 and count ’em down to #1 each Monday to Friday for the next two weeks.

You can’t get away from Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and Glenn Beck if you wanted to. They’re everywhere. Rush has 600+ stations, Hannity has more than 500 and Beck is over 400.

But what about other great talent? Terrific local and regional broadcasters who aren’t on the air where you live. The up-and-comers who have the potential to be step into Rush’s, Sean’s and Glenn’s shoes someday.

We asked talk radio program directors and talk show hosts around the country to name their favorite hosts. The criteria were simple: Hosts who aren’t nationally syndicated, who are currently big fish in smaller markets or large market hosts who are ready to break through nationally.

Oh, one other rule. We wanted hosts who didn’t just parrot Rush. We wanted unique, creative personalities that shine through on the air, who are a little quirky, people who made you sit up and take notice.

The result is our great collection of great local and regional talk show talent from around the country.

It all starts on Monday. Don’t miss it.

Hope and change in reverse: Obama less popular in Arab world than Bush and Ahmadinejad

According to a new Zogby poll President Obama’s promise of hope and change is working out in the Arab world about as well as it’s working out in the good ol’ US of A.

According to a new Zogby poll President Obama’s promise of hope and change is working out in the Arab world about as well as it’s working out in the good ol’ US of A. In other words, not well.

But at least the Europeans still love him.

arab obama protest
Hoax and change

Commentary magazine has the details:

Respondents rated Obama’s policies as the least popular, when compared with other leaders, including Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Killing Osama bin Laden also contributed to the Arab world’s negative views of Obama. In all six countries surveyed – Egypt, Morocco, Lebanon, Jordan, the UAE and Saudi Arabia – the majority of respondents said killing bin Laden made them “less favorable toward the U.S.” Notably, in Egypt, only 2 percent said the al Qaeda leader’s death made them view America more positively.

Most surprisingly, Obama’s approval ratings are even lower than President Bush’s before he left office in 2008. They dropped from 26 percent to 12 percent in Morocco, 9 percent to 5 percent in Egypt, 16 percent to 10 percent in Jordan and 22 percent to 12 percent in the UAE (though they did improve in Saudi Arabia, and tick up slightly in Lebanon).

But how is this possible? President Obama gave that dandy speech in Cairo. He announced that Muslim outreach was one of NASA’s main goals. He bowed to the king of Saudi Arabia. He demanded that Israel commit national suicide by returning to its 1967 borders.

There’s only one answer. Those Arabs are raaaacists.

“A shot across President Obama’s bow:” Ed Koch endorses Republican in race for Weiner’s former seat

17 Down: Former New York mayor who's pissed at President Obama (six letters)

The New York Post has the details:

Koch — a staunch ally of Israel — said he would “vote for Bob Turner” if the Republican-Conservative candidate backs Israel and opposes cutbacks to Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security.

“If Jewish New Yorkers and others who support Israel were to turn away from the Democratic Party in that congressional election and elect the Republican candidate to Congress in 2011, it might very well cause President Obama to change his hostile position on the state of Israel and to re-establish the special relationship presidents before him had supported,” Koch said in his weekly commentary.

Koch likened the situation to Republican Scott Brown winning the Massachusetts Senate seat long occupied by Ted Kennedy.

“I want to put a shot across Obama’s bow,” Koch said in an interview.

He is furious with Obama over the president’s public push to get Israel to use its 1967 borders as a starting point for negotiations over a Palestinian state.

Ed Koch endorses a Republican. Oy veh. In one fell swoop Obama is losing both the Jewish vote and the closeted gay vote.

Thug vs. hooligan: Vladimir Putin disses Ben Bernanke

Did you ever think you’d see the day when Vladimir Putin seems to be more concerned about the future of the United States than Ben Bernanke is?

If this story from Zero Hedge doesn’t sum up the dismal state of our economy, nothing does:

dollar-printing-press
Vladimir Putin is not only against the free press, he's against the printing press

In a speech before the of economic experts at the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Russian prime minister had the following to say: “Thank God, or unfortunately, we do not print a reserve currency but what are they doing? They are behaving like hooligans, switching on the printing press and tossing them around the whole world, forgetting their main obligations.”
What appears to have angered the former KGB spy is the end of QE2. According to RIAN: “Putin’s comments came in the wake of the completion of the US’ quantitative easing (QE) 2 program on June 30, in which the Federal Reserve bought $600 billion worth of its Treasury bonds. The Fed’s first round of QE, which ended in March last year, amounted to less than half the size of QE2.”

Bernanke’s response? He’s now proposing QE3, which is also known as the Barack Obama Reelection Slush Fund.

The macho Putin could break Bernanke in half like a twig. And we kind of wish he would.

Interesting campaign strategy, President Obama. Let us know how that works out for you.

New York City woman ticketed for throwing trash in trash can

NYC Mayor and nanny state nitwit Mike Bloomberg runs a tight ship. “Tight” as in “absurdly anal.”

His Sanitation Department can’t be bothered with garbage collection or snow removal (might disturb the guys sleeping in their trucks) and now they issue tickets for, believe it or not, throwing trash in a trash can.

new-york-trash-can
When trash is outlawed only outlaws will have trash

CBS New York reveals the surreal:

Darbe Pitofsky, 83, said she was on her way for a cup of coffee … when she threw a brown bag filled with old papers in a city litter basket near her apartment…

She said a sanitation worker quickly jumped out of his vehicle and demanded her information to write a summons.

Must be a serious crime, because those guys rarely do anything quickly:

Pitofsky said it took the worker 25 minutes to write the summons and when she complained that it would cost her $100, she said he threatened to make it $300.

A representative for the Sanitation Department said street baskets are for pedestrian use only but added Pitofsky can challenge the ticket if she thinks there has been a mistake.

“Pedestrian use only” sounds as if it would have been legal if she had gone out, bought the same newspapers and discarded them on the walk home. Segregating home and street trash sounds discriminatory to us. Regardless, our advice to Pitofsky would be to dump the papers between some parked cars when nobody was looking and let the city go screw itself.

Bloomberg wants to take his nitwittery national and run for president on the “No Labels” ticket. That’s an idea that should be trashed, $300 fine or not.

Calling Dr. Kevorkian: Newsweek.com to die on July 19

Starting July 19, we hear, newsweek.com will no longer exist. Instead that URL will redirect users to a channel on the Daily Beast site, like its current “politics,” “entertainment,” and “fashion” verticals.

Back in August 2010 Sidney Harman, husband of California Democrat (pardon our redundancy) Congresswoman Jane Harman, bought Newsweek for $1.00. It appears now that he may have overpaid.

New York Magazine tells the tale of journalistic assisted suicide:

obama-newsweek
So sad: One less liberal website to praise President Obama

Right now if you go to newsweek.com, you’ll see a basic magazine website, updated with content from the print version of the mag and a top navigation bar that directs you to content on its sister site, dailybeast.com. But starting July 19, we hear, newsweek.com will no longer exist. Instead that URL will redirect users to a channel on the Daily Beast site, like its current “politics,” “entertainment,” and “fashion” verticals. The Newsweek channel will still have all the archived magazine content from before (unlike Time, Newsweek puts all of its print content online), and it will be edited and updated once a day to rotate features. Newsweek/Daily Beast editor Tina Brown and Chief Digital Officer Daniel Blackman decided it made the most sense to have all-new non-magazine content appear on the Beast homepage. As it is, that’s how the system has been working for some weeks now, but the death of the newsweek.com URL marks the official end of what was once a fully staffed and hugely trafficked site in its own right.

IHateTheMedia.com will offer Harman $2.00 right now for the Newsweek.com url. No questions asked. No strings attached.

What do you say, Sidney? It’s not often  you can double your money on a bad investment.

We’ll just sit here and wait for the phone call.

Obama “misspoke” about late mom’s health insurance problems

Obama claimed health insurers attributed his late mother’s cancer to pre-existing conditions and denied her coverage. A heartbreaking story, the only problem is it’s not true.

IHateTheMedia.com presents, “Liar or idiot: YOU make the call”….

During the 2008 campaign and the 2009 battle over his signature healthcare “reform” scheme, Obama claimed health insurers attributed his late mother’s cancer to pre-existing conditions and denied her coverage. A heartbreaking story, the only problem is it’s not true.

barack obama liar
As they say in Tinseltown, "Bio-pic"

The Washington Examiner dives in the dumpster for us:

The news is in “A Singular Woman: The Untold Story of Barack Obama’s Mother,” a generally admiring new biography written by former New York Times reporter Janny Scott.

…Scott, who had access to Dunham’s correspondence from the time, reveals that Dunham unquestionably had health coverage. “Ann’s compensation for her job in Jakarta had included health insurance, which covered most of the costs of her medical treatment,” Scott writes. “Once she was back in Hawaii, the hospital billed her insurance company directly, leaving Ann to pay only the deductible and any uncovered expenses, which, she said, came to several hundred dollars a month.”

Scott writes that Dunham, who wanted to be compensated for those costs as well as for her living expenses, “filed a separate claim under her employer’s disability insurance policy.” It was that claim [emphasis ours], with the insurance company CIGNA, that was denied in August 1995 because, CIGNA investigators said, Dunham’s condition was known before she was covered by the policy.

Is Obama so stupid he can’t distinguish between health and disability insurance (some genius attorney!) or a stinking liar, the Prevaricator-in-Chief?

Oops! Brand spankin’ new Chinese highway falls apart after two days. Thomas Friedman hardest hit.

One of the China’s newest “glory projects” turned into a “glory hole” two days after it was opened.

New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman constantly praises all things Chinese – their economy, their political system, their remarkable achievements, everything.

Unfortunately, one of the nation’s newest “glory projects” turned into a “glory hole” two days after it was opened.

chinese-xinsan-motorway
When China's new Xinsan Motorway collapsed it took this Chinese pick-up truck along for the ride

The Telegraph UK tells the tale of the road to ruin:

A Chinese motorway has collapsed just two days after it opened, causing the deaths of two people, after builders were ordered to rush the project so it could be unveiled for the 90th birthday of the Communist party.

The 57-mile-long Xinsan motorway, through the mountains of Yunnan, was supposed to be a perfect example of how the Communist party has rolled out pristine infrastructure to even the most remote areas of China, creating economic prosperity.

Despite warnings from the construction team in charge of the project, it was included in the list of “glory projects” to be unveiled for the party’s 90th anniversary on July 1.

Huge banners were slung on the cliffs above the road, reminding its builders: “Work hard, work quickly, we have 60 days left”.

But how could this be? The problems with this highway are surely an anomaly, because we all know that the Chinese record of success is unmatched anywhere in the world today.

The motorway is only one of a number of major projects which were rushed through to meet the deadline.

The 820-mile Beijing-to-Shanghai high-speed railway, open to the public for only eleven days, yesterday (SUN) saw trains stalled for two hours after an electrical failure.

Back in the 1980s Hedrick Smith, Moscow Bureau Chief for the New York Times, who lived in the Soviet Union for many years, wrote a best-selling book called The Russians.

The basic premise of the book was that the whole Soviet success was a sham and that despite outward appearances it was a nation destined to fail. Everything was shoddily manufactured and fell apart almost as soon as it rolled off the assembly line. He extended that line of thinking to the USSR’s military and space program and theorized that the West had very little reason to fear this corrupt communist cabal.

In other words, no matter what your read and no matter what you hear, nothing in Communist countries is as advertised by the Western media.

Perhaps Thomas Friedman should pick up a copy of The Russians.

Best damn press conference ever. EVER! Because President Obama had several moments where the mask dropped away and revealed the face of his elitism.

Like this one where he said that “professional politicians” understand the debt crisis better than the mere members of the public.

Now hold on just a minute, Mr. President. Wasn’t it the professional politicians who got us into this mess in the first place?

Esquire article about Obama guaranteed to make you squirm. Or laugh. Or both.

We have one piece of advice for the guy who wrote the love letter to President Obama in this month’s Esquire magazine: Take a long, cold shower, dude.

What follows is not parody. It’s not satire. It’s not humor of any sort, and yet it makes us laugh in that same uncomfortable way we laugh when we see two people making out in public.

obama tiger beat
Esquire has officially turned into Tiger Beat

Let’s go to Esquire for the excerpts:

Can we just enjoy Obama for a moment? Before the policy choices have to be weighed and the hard decisions have to be made, can we just take a month or two to contemplate him the way we might contemplate a painting by Vermeer or a guitar lick by the early-seventies Rolling Stones or a Peyton Manning pass or any other astounding, ecstatic human achievement? Because twenty years from now, we’re going to look back on this time as a glorious idyll in American politics, with a confident, intelligent, fascinating president riding the surge of his prodigious talents from triumph to triumph. Whatever happens this fall or next, the summer of 2011 is the summer of Obama.

Don’t stop now. Crank up the puppy love-o-meter a little higher.

Due to the specific nature of his political calculus, possibly not a single person in the United States — not even Obama himself — agrees with all of his policies. But even if you disagree with him, even if you hate him, even if you are his enemy, at this point you must admire him. The turning point came that glorious week in the spring when, in the space of a few days, he released his long-form birth certificate, humiliated Donald Trump at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, and assassinated Osama bin Laden. The effortlessness of that political triptych — three linked masterpieces demonstrating his total command over intellectual argument, low comedy, and the spectacle of political violence — was so overwhelmingly impressive that it made political geniuses of the recent past like Reagan and Clinton seem ham-fisted. Formed in the fire of other people’s wars, other people’s financial crises, Obama stepped out of Bush’s shadow that week, almost three years after taking over the presidency.

We haven’t heard any fat ladies singing nor any Esquire writers moaning. That means it ain’t over yet.

Reagan was able to call upon the classic American mythology of frontiersmen and astronauts and movie stars; Obama has accessed a much wider narrative matrix: He’s mixed and matched Jay-Z with geek with Hawaiian with Kansan with product of Middle America with product of a broken home with local Chicago churchgoer with internationally renowned memoirist with assassin. “I am large, I contain multitudes,” Walt Whitman [FIG.3] wrote, and Obama lives that lyrical prophecy. Christopher Booker’s 2004 book The Seven Basic Plots, a wide-ranging study from the Epic of Gilgamesh on and a surprisingly convincing explanation for why we crave narrative, reduced all stories to a few plots, each with its own kind of hero. Amazingly, Barack Obama fulfills the role of hero in each of these ancient story forms.

We haven’t read Esquire in ten years. Maybe fifteen. Even then we just thumbed through its annual Dubious Achievements issue in the grocery store instead of actually buying it.

We must assume that this article will merit a spot among next year’s Dubious Achievements.

Barack Obama, the Sammy Davis Jr. of Presidents

Not since the heyday of Sammy Davis, Jr. has anyone surrounded himself with funnier people than Barack Obama does.

They missed the flip side of the same story: Not since the heyday of Sammy Davis, Jr. has anyone surrounded himself with funnier people than Barack Obama does.

Sammy found everyone to be hysterically, outrageously, impossibly funny. He seems to have found a soul mate in President Obama.

Great Britain demonstrates that spending money on wind power is like pissing into the wind

Smart folks like Barack Obama love ideas like wind power. It give them a chance to pay back the bros at windmill-maker GE. What could go wrong? Everything

Smart folks like Barack Obama love ideas like wind power. No dirty fossil fuels, no emissions, no carbon dioxide (something plants need, but hell, they don’t vote) and a chance to pay back the bros at windmill-maker GE. What could go wrong? Everything.

wind-power-great-britain
The green armada may be able to accomplish what the Spanish Armada couldn't

Ace reveals the realities discovered by the British utilizing windmills to lower CO2 emissions:

Problem One. Wind Power isn’t cost effective compared to fossil fuel plants. The only way wind turbines get built is if somebody (via higher electric bills) subsidizes them.

Problem Two. Wind Power isn’t consistent. In the Brit winter you might have 4-5 day periods when little or no wind is blowing. The rest of the time, output will fluctuate greatly which Just Doesn’t Work with a power grid. So you need backup power for your wind turbines.

Problem Three. Not only do you have to pay for 17 gigawatts of wind farms you also have to build and pay for 17 gigawatts of backup gas turbine plants.

[Backup turbines] have the ability to quickly move from idling to full power to compensate for the erratic wind turbines…. The turbines emit more CO2 when they’re idling than when they’re at full power…. The CO2 emitted while idling wipes out any savings you could get from the wind farms!

Spending lots of money to gain exactly nothing – another example of the “brilliance” of the political class, a bunch of silly pompous dicks who live to piss in the wind.

Unfortunately, the taxpayers are the ones whose shoes are getting wet.

Even reliably liberal David Gregory won’t let Tim Geithner spin the bad economic news

Geithner tried to blame last week’s awful economic numbers on everything except his failed policies. David Gregory didn’t let him get away with it.

“It’s the weather. It’s the Japanese earthquake. It’s George Bush. It’s the Republicans. It’s gravity. It’s Sagittarius rising. It’s a seasonal adjustment. It’s my mother-in-law. It’s … it’s … it’s … did I mention the Japanese earthquake?”

That’s kind of how it went when David Gregory interviewed Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner on Meet the Press. Geithner tried to blame last week’s awful economic numbers on everything except his failed policies. And then he tried to claim that the bad numbers actually show that things are getting better.

And the nice part – the unexpected part – was that Gregory didn’t let him get away with it.

Sheila Jackson Lee: “You’re blind. Nyah-nyah-nyah-nyah-nyah.”

The Texas Democrat, who attempts to soften her public image by advocating for the visually impaired, has a completely different attitude when it comes to her own staff.

To paraphrase an old saying, there is none so blind as Sheila Jackson Lee.

The Texas Democrat, who attempts to soften her public image by advocating for the visually impaired, has a completely different attitude when it comes to her own staff.

sheila-jackson-lee
Sheila Jackson Lee taunts Mona Floyd by asking, "How many fingers am I holding up?"

The Washington Times reports on Jackson Lee, which rhymes, coincidentally, with hypocrisy:

…a former top aide to the Texas Democrat, said the lawmaker’s public support for the disabled was nowhere to be found in her own congressional office when it came to the aide’s vision impairment. Mona Floyd, who served as the congresswoman’s legislative director, has monocular vision. She said she was told by Mrs. Jackson Lee in a private conversation within weeks of the hearing, “I don’t care anything about your disability.”

Our liberal friends may choose to interpret “I don’t care anything about your disability” as meaning “I choose not to judge people by their physical disabilities.” But they’d be wrong.

Another time, when Ms. Floyd, a lawyer, brought up her disability, she said another staffer told her the congresswoman had said, “I don’t give a damn about her disability.”

Harsh, Ms. Jackson Lee, harsh.

The accusations were outlined in a sharply-worded lawsuit filed recently in federal court in Washington, which seeks unspecified pay and compensatory and punitive damages. According to the complaint, Ms. Floyd, who did not return phone messages this week for comment, received reasonable accommodations for her vision disability when she went to work for the congresswoman in August 2007. But Ms. Floyd said in the court papers, the congresswoman became dismissive when she returned in February 2010 to become Mrs. Jackson Lee’s legislative director.

Short of starvation, we cannot think of a condition that would induce us to take a job with Sheila Jackson Lee.

“The representative regularly made these types of derogatory comments about the speed of Ms. Floyd’s work, which the representative knew was a result of her vision impairment,” the lawsuit said.

Despite her visual impairment, we trust that Ms. Floyd now sees Sheila Jackson Lee for what she really is.

Latest lunacy from the NAACP: Coal-fired power plants are racist

It should come as no surprise to our readers to learn that coal-fired power plants fall into that vile category, too.

Of course, regular readers of IHateTheMedia.com are well aware that everything – absolutely everything – is racist. So it should come as no surprise to learn that coal-fired power plants fall into that vile category, too.

The Holland, Michigan Sentinel reports the latest in leftist outrage:

holland-michigan-power-plant
Oh, for god's sake. The NAACP says this coal-fired power plant in Holland, Michigan is raaaacist

A new national report to be released by the NAACP Saturday gives Holland’s James De Young coal-fired plant a environmental justice grade of ‘F.’

The report analyzes toxic emissions and demographic factors including race, income and population density to calculate “environmental justice scores” for the nation’s 431 coal-fired power plants which are “significantly harmful to low-income communities and communities of color.”

Detroit’s River Rouge Power Plant is ranked as ninth-most harmful in the nation.

Other failing plants include Eckert (Lansing); B.C. Cobb (Muskegon); Monroe (Monroe); Trenton Channel (Trenton) and Presque Isle (Marquette).

Regular IHTM reader Paden alerted us to this story and said, “The Sierra club has been fighting Holland city for two years to stop the expansion of the power plant. Holland has one group of liberals who won’t allow a new plant and another flock of libs saying the currant plant is racist.”

Environmental justice. A phrase in which neither word is accurate, but the left buys it anyway. Generally with your money.

Brit Hume on fire: “Fast and Furious” is Obama’s Watergate

Watergate, anyone? Fox News’ Brit Hume says the Mexican gun running scandal is moving from simmer to boil and is starting to remind him of Watergate. Hume asked the most famous question that was asked during that scandal.

The Daily Caller reports:

“This is a real scandal,” Hume said. “And once again, we have the classic question of what did the attorney general, for example, know? When did he know it?”

Hume likened Obama’s handling of the scandal to that of Nixon’s handling of Watergate, which ultimately resulted in Nixon’s resignation.

“This Obama Justice Department reminds me of nothing so much as the Nixon Justice Department,” he said. “You have the scent of high-level knowledge of serious wrongdoing and you have the smell of cover-up and I think the stench of cover-up on this gun-running operation is very strong indeed.”

James Carville became famous back in 1992 for saying, “It’s the economy, stupid.” Doesn’t look like this will be Obama’s 2012 campaign slogan.

James Carville became famous back in 1992 for saying, “It’s the economy, stupid.”

David Plouffe, who ran President Obama’s 2008 campaign and is already hard at work on his 2012 campaign, doesn’t have the luxury of criticizing a sitting president’s economy so he’s working overtime to convince himself that Carville was wrong.

Unicorns. That's what Americans are interested in. Definitely not jobs and the economy.

Bloomberg details Plouffe’s delusion:

“The average American does not view the economy through the prism of GDP or unemployment rates or even monthly jobs numbers,” Plouffe said. “People won’t vote based on the unemployment rate, they’re going to vote based on: ‘How do I feel about my own situation? Do I believe the president makes decisions based on me and my family?’”

Plouffe is, of course, 100% correct. If you’re an America-hating minority who belongs to a union and wants to retire early while others support your posh lifestyle, you will definitely feel the president makes decisions based on you and your family. Otherwise, not so much.

We’ve never run a presidential campaign, but off the tops of our heads, Mr. Plouffe, sir, that seems like a bad strategy.

Warren Buffett’s foolproof plan to wipe out the deficit

Warren Buffett says he could wipe out the deficit in five minutes. It’s a simple solution, really. All we have to do, according to Buffett, is set a budget cap and if it’s violated, fire Congress.

It’s a simple solution, really. All we have to do, according to Buffett, is set a budget cap and if it’s violated, fire Congress. It’s the old’ “If you guys won’t do it, we’ll find someone who will” plan.

Don’t look now, Mr. Buffett, sir, but that’s what the Tea Party is all about. Yet you hate the Tea Party and love Obama.

Sure, it’s inconsistent. But he’s the world’s third richest and fifth glibbest man, so let’s not expect consistency.

Is it too late to un-declare our independence?

After seeing this picture of Kate Middleton on a this weekend’s trip through Calgary, maybe we were a little hasty leaving England.

Most Americans enjoyed the July 4th holiday, a celebration of our independence from England.

But, after seeing this picture of Duchess Catherine on a this weekend’s trip through Calgary, we’re starting to have a change of heart. Maybe we were a little hasty leaving England.

Don’t we really have heavy taxation without representation now? And what did we get in exchange? Michelle Obama’s arms? Please.

We say nicer asses and more taxes, right?

C’mon, how could we leave this behind?

Texas executes illegal alien murderer/rapist. His final words: “Viva Mexico!”

Texas executed a Mexican citizen Thursday for the rape-slaying of a teenager. Before he died, he shouted twice, “Viva Mexico!”

Illegal alien murderer/rapist Humberto Leal had lived in the United States since he was two years old. Hell, based on that fact alone he was almost as American as Barack Obama.

The Associated Press has the final word on the animal’s final moments:

"He snored and went to sleep." Look for the ACLU to call this cruel and unusual punishment in 3...2...1...

Texas executed a Mexican citizen Thursday for the rape-slaying of a teenager after he and the White House pleaded in vain for a Supreme Court stay, saying he was denied help from his home country that could have helped him avoid the death penalty.

In his last minutes, Humberto Leal repeatedly said he was sorry and accepted responsibility.

“I have hurt a lot of people. … I take full blame for everything. I am sorry for what I did,” he said in the death chamber.

“One more thing,” he said as the drugs began taking effect. Then he shouted twice, “Viva Mexico!”

“Ready warden,” he said. “Let’s get this show on the road.”
He grunted, snored several times and appeared to go to sleep, then stopped all breathing movement. The 38-year-old mechanic was pronounced dead at 6:21 p.m., 10 minutes after the lethal drugs began flowing into his arms.

Our congratulations to the state of Texas for taking this step toward lowering global warming. As of 6:21 Thursday night he will no longer spew any noxious CO2 into the atmosphere.

Viva Texas!
