NYC Mayor and nanny state nitwit Mike Bloomberg runs a tight ship. “Tight” as in “absurdly anal.”
His Sanitation Department can’t be bothered with garbage collection or snow removal (might disturb the guys sleeping in their trucks) and now they issue tickets for, believe it or not, throwing trash in a trash can.
CBS New York reveals the surreal:
Darbe Pitofsky, 83, said she was on her way for a cup of coffee … when she threw a brown bag filled with old papers in a city litter basket near her apartment…
She said a sanitation worker quickly jumped out of his vehicle and demanded her information to write a summons.
Must be a serious crime, because those guys rarely do anything quickly:
Pitofsky said it took the worker 25 minutes to write the summons and when she complained that it would cost her $100, she said he threatened to make it $300.
A representative for the Sanitation Department said street baskets are for pedestrian use only but added Pitofsky can challenge the ticket if she thinks there has been a mistake.
“Pedestrian use only” sounds as if it would have been legal if she had gone out, bought the same newspapers and discarded them on the walk home. Segregating home and street trash sounds discriminatory to us. Regardless, our advice to Pitofsky would be to dump the papers between some parked cars when nobody was looking and let the city go screw itself.
Bloomberg wants to take his nitwittery national and run for president on the “No Labels” ticket. That’s an idea that should be trashed, $300 fine or not.
