Live like Rush: Now you can buy his Fifth Avenue penthouse for just $13,950,000

by editor on March 3, 2010

Talk radio titan Rush Limbaugh often complains about his treatment at the hands of New York city and state tax authorities. Now he’s put his Fifth Avenue penthouse up for sale and is cutting ties with the Empire State.

As Gawker.com reports:

Limbaugh promised that he’d sell his Manhattan apartment last March after the Paterson administration proposed raising taxes on New York residents who make more than $500,000 a year. (That wasn’t the first time he’d made the threat. On the eve of the 2008 presidential election, Limbaugh said he was “seriously considering selling it,” since “it may now become stupid to own any property there.”)

…The 20th-floor penthouse at 1049 Fifth Avenue, which Limbaugh purchased in 1994 under the name RH Trust (Rush’s middle name is Hudson) was officially listed two weeks ago for $13.95 million. And although he’s described the place on his radio show as “fashionable,” it’s doubtful that will be the word that comes to mind when you look at the photos below, which show off moldings of “hand painted gold leaf” and his “hand painted ceilings and walls” by “renowned artist” Richard Smith.

Jealousy is such an ugly thing, Gawker.

Don’t get us wrong. We’re not saying we like Rush’s taste in decorating. But we don’t like Gawker’s taste in stories, either, and you don’t see us complaining about that.

He’s been married and divorced 3 times and I believe he’s engaged to be married again.

For a moment it reminded me of Mariah Carey’s apartment on Cribs. It is pretty but uhm yeah… is he married? has he been married? does he has a girlfriend? because if he is not, has not been or does not have one then yes I do wonder…

14 Mil For low ceilings and tiny rooms. My bathroom is bigger than that office. Unless, a trailer park conservative (God Bless your Hearts) or Mon Tse-Tro recently won the lottery, the apt. would need to be completely gutted. not to mention fumigated, and Exorcised for good measure!

Lol. I think Rush like many other successful people, pay too much for property in NY. Either, they don’t take the time/ don’t have the time to truly educate themselves on what is available.
Then, of course, when they try to sell it, they realize they are the ONLY ones who would have bought it at that price.

…do you have any idea how much of a ripoff living in new york is, let alone living on fifth?

people buy tiny shit apartments in new york for high prices because of location, its a good location, but for anyone who doesnt care to live next to other millionaires of course its a ripoff

yeah, he lives overlooking the park. a good location for his pre-breakfast 1/2 marathons? His love of Planetariums and Natural History? He wants to be surrounded by other millionaires? Something tells me Rush isn’t real popular with his Upper East side neighbors, either. He should move to Connecticut and have a Basilica built. Which I am sure, with enough gold leaf, would meet his standards of ‘fashion’.

I’d kill for that office.

It’s a pretty nice place… for a summer cottage. Wouldn’t want to live there though.
