Another victory for socialism: Oil-rich Venezuela can’t keep the lights on

by editor on May 28, 2011

Considering the fact that Venezuela sits on an ocean of oil, one would think they could generate enough electricity to keep the lights on. But no, the South American nation is suffering an energy shortage for the second straight year. Hugo Chavez was unavailable for comment.

Barack Obama stands to the left of Hugo Chavez, figuratively at least

Bloomberg has the story:

Venezuela will ration power again this year, planning steps similar to those taken in 2010 amid an energy crisis, Electricity Minister Ali Rodriguez said.

“We’re going to reapply the measures we applied in Caracas last year nationwide, which punishes the wasting of electricity and encourages energy savings,” Rodriguez said in an interview on state television today. Any rationing measures require President Hugo Chavez’s approval, Rodriguez said.

Venezuela has struggled to boost energy-generating capacity to keep pace with an estimated 6 percent increase in demand this year. The consumption jump, if it persists, would require an additional 2,000 megawatts of new capacity a year, which is “unsustainable,” Rodriguez said.

All hail the glories of socialism! The lights are off, but nobody’s home.

Perhaps Dumbass Obama should give them $2,000,000,000 to help develop their oil industry….

Venezuela may be sitting on an ocean of oil but that’s dwarfed by an even bigger ocean of stupid, namely Hugo. But the upside is he lures people like Sean Penn, Oliver Stoned and Jimmy Peanuts out of this country every so often.

Do any of you remember watching Soylent Green when it came out? Maybe that’s where we’re headed: living in stairwells, generating 80 watts of electricity by pedaling an exercise bicycle attached to a generator, dying in food and water street riots, being scooped up by dumptrucks with big fronloaders on them and being driven off to the processing plant to be turned into dog bisquits.

“Do any of you remember watching Soylent Green when it came out?”

Nope, wasn’t yet alive. I was going to watch it on TCM but thanks for spoiling it for me. 🙂

LOL I am kidding. I have never seen it, but there has been SO many references to it in pop culture that I researched it. As for the possibility of that type of world… considering that it hasn’t YET happened in other countries that are in far worst state than ours (well at least the last part that I know of) it may not happen, but all that we can do to avoid the possibility should be done.

At least probleme there is an increase in consumption, when every day, fewer people can afford electricity under black jesus´s regime.

Any chance of him increasing their chocolate rations?

The chocolate ration was increased to 100 grams last week! Please keep up with the Current Truth!

And Dear Leader has reduced unemployment to only 9%!

“We’re going to reapply the measures we applied in Caracas last year nationwide, which punishes the wasting of electricity and encourages energy savings,”

This is where we are headed! Our socialist congress and potus are pushing us into this corner where we run out of resources because they have outlawed drilling and and mining and forced us to rely on ridiculously expense alternatives, which will NOT replace fossil fuels, and so the time will come when the tyrants in DC will start punishing what they perceive to be excessive use of energy.

Think about that! How will they define excessive, but more importantly, how will they enforce those limits? Are they going to raid your house at night when they see more than one room lit up? Are they going to put limits on car ownership? It will get very ugly and energy black markets will pop up all over the place, making life in general a dangerous endeavor.

This may sound overly dramatic, but it’s just around the bend, especially if Obama wins a 2nd term!

Not to worry, though. The lights in the Presidential Palace will stay on.

No, not overly dramatic, just true. The fact that no one on the left can see it is astounding. We are being manipulated to the nth degree!

Let’s sell them some wind turbines.

That’ll do it.

I heard that Chavez is full of wind so you may have something there.

The 6% increase in electric consumption is due to a large number of “former” illegal aliens returning to their country of origin from the USA. This is due to the booming
American economy which of course is George Bush’s fault.
