Chuck Todd thinks the Constitution is written in iambic pentameter

Chuck Todd, guest hosting on Monday’s Hardball, made a very interesting point with guest Ernest Istook. And when we say “very interesting”, what we really mean is stupid.

Istook: The Supreme Court precedent on this, which was in 1898, was the case of Wong Kim Ark. And in that case, he was the child of parents who were here legally, and lawfully. The Supreme Court has not ruled on the case of children of parents who are here illegally.

Todd: But here’s the issue you have. Let me read you–and it’s a very familiar phrase to a lot of folks–that greets people when they came to Liberty Island and Ellis Island. It says: “give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free. The wretched refuse of your teeming shores. Send these the homeless tempest [tossed] to me. I lift my lamp beside the golden door.” There was no mention of whether these folks had to be legal citizens…

Istook: “…my grandparents came through Ellis Island. My father’s parents were immigrants from Hungary. So I know the Emma Lazarus poem that you were quoting. But that’s not the same as quoting the provisions of the Constitution.”

It’s a poem, Chuck, just a poem. “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddle masses” isn’t part of the Constitution any more than “There once was a girl from Nantucket” is part of the Declaration of Independence.

CNN Money lionizes the Elders of the Economy, whoever they are

Of course, everyone knows that the Obama administration doesn’t want to raise taxes. It’s just so alien (see the Battlestar Galactica connection?) to everything they believe in.

battlestar-galactica-starbuck
Kara Thrace (callsign "Starbuck"), our favorite economist

The what? The who? We thought the Elders of the Economy were a group of aliens from the original Battlestar Galatica, but no.

Turns out that this newly-revered group includes “Alan Greenspan, David Stockman, former budget director in the Reagan White House, and former Treasury Secretaries Robert Rubin and Paul O’Neil” and any other economist or banker who’s ever come out in favor of higher taxes.

According to CNN Money, “Former Federal Reserve chairman Alan Greenspan was first and has taken the most extreme position, arguing that all of the Bush tax cuts of 2001 and 2003 should be allowed to expire.”

Of course, everyone knows that the Obama administration doesn’t want to raise taxes. It’s just so alien (see the Battlestar Galactica connection?) to everything they believe in. “The White House and most Democrats have argued for keeping the taxes cuts in place for most households, but letting them expire for those earnings more than $250,000, about 2% of the country.”

Yes, the Democrats HATE to raise taxes, but if Alan Greenspan says they must, well, then they simply must. Because everyone knows that they worship the former head of the Fed and are obligated to obey his every pronouncement.

Of course, the guys that Democrats now call “Elders of the Economy” are the same guys they were calling “sons of bitches” not too long ago. But all they had to do was mention raising taxes and they were instantaneously transformed into heroes of the Democratic party.

As Starbuck might say, “It sure seems like the Obama administration is all fraked up”

First Democrats stopped reading bills before they passed them, now they’ve stopped naming them

Senate democrats were in such a hurry to piss away another $26 billion of our tax dollars that passed they couldn’t hold off long enough to give it a name. So H.R. 1586 passed with the name “______Act of____.”

We see some really wacky stuff in the course of putting together IHateTheMedia.com every day, but this one is just plain laughable.

blank-act-of-blank
Nancy Pelosi can't wait to pass H.R. 1586 so she can't find out what's in it.

Senate democrats were in such a hurry to piss away another $26 billion of our tax dollars that passed they couldn’t hold off long enough to give it a name. So H.R. 1586 passed with the name “______Act of____.”

Seriously. They passed the Blank Act of Blank. We can only assume they did it so they’d have less not to read.

The Cato Institute reports that the Democrats might be nameless, but they’re not blameless:

As reported on the WashingtonWatch.com blog and cnet news, this highly unconventional name may be what goes into law. With the Senate out of town until September, there is no chance to pass a correcting amendment in both houses. The constitution requires both to pass identical bills, so the House must take up the “______Act of____” and pass it as such.

If it does, the “law with no name” will stand as a lasting tribute to the inattention Congress gives its work. Spending billions of taxpayer dollars is a hurried and casual affair for our lawmakers.

This is one case, we assume, when it’s absolutely proper to say, “Stop spending our blankety blank money.”

Juan Williams says Missouri’s anti-ObamaCare vote is meaningless: “Only old white people voted for it”

You know that anti-ObamaCare vote in Missouri last week? The one that got 71% of the vote? Meaningless, according to Fox News’ Juan Williams, because those who voted didn’t reflect an accurate sampling of Missouri’s ethic mix.

“As far as the Missouri vote, you get 70 percent inside an echo chamber of older white people, no not in St. Louis not in Kansas City, saying, ‘Oh yeah, we don’t like a requirement that everybody has to have healthcare even though the hospitals in Missouri say it’s gonna drive up our costs.’”

On a similar note, the results of last night’s Dodgers game didn’t count because the team’s roster doesn’t include enough black guys. And don’t bother paying the bills you got in the mail today. The post office doesn’t have enough Hispanics. And while we’re at it, let’s wipe the Renaissance out of the history books. Too many white guys.

The problem with recording an audio book version of your autobiography is that your own words might come back to haunt you. Kind of like John McCain’s just did.

J.D. Hayworth, McCain’s opponent in the Arizona Republican primary, took a snippet from Worth Fighting For and turned it into a TV commercial that John McCain must hate even more than he hates the North Vietnamese.

In Worth Fighting For, McCain admits that he was less than honest during the 2000 South Carolina primary. When presented with a choice between telling the truth and winning the election, McCain says, “I chose lying.” And Hayworth argues that McCain is now doing again.

Ouch.

Now he tells us: Medicare’s chief actuary says rosy ObamaCare projections are complete nonsense

Medicare’s chief actuary says rosy ObamaCare projections are complete nonsense

The Obama administration just got caught trying to slip another one past the American people. They used data in the annual Medicare Trustees Report to prove that that ObamaCare would inject new life in the Medicare monster.

Unfortunately for the President, that argument didn’t hold up when economics21.org analyzed the report and learned that Medicare’s own chief actuary disagrees. Strongly disagrees, in fact. He says they underestimated future costs by 68%.

To repeat, the administration underestimated costs by a remarkable 68%:

medicare-costs-68-percent
68%! They underestimated Medicare costs by a remarkable 68%.

“(T)he financial projections shown in this report for Medicare do not represent a reasonable expectation for actual program operations in either the short range. . . or the long range. . . . I encourage readers to review the ‘illustrative alternative’ projections that are based on more sustainable assumptions for physician and other Medicare price updates.”

These remarkable words are found, in all places, in the “Statement of Actuarial Opinion” in the back of the 2010 annual Medicare Trustees’ Report.

It is difficult to overstate how unusual this development is. The normal process with the annual Trustees’ Reports is for the Trustees to develop and publish the best available projections for the future finances of Social Security and Medicare. The respective Social Security and Medicare actuaries then sign a pro forma blessing of those projections, which is tacked to the back of the report when released to the public.

This year, the Medicare Chief Actuary clearly did not feel he could in good conscience sign such a declaration.

Our initial inclination was to criticize the Obama administration on this error. But on second thought, we say it deserves a little credit here. After all, they’re only off by 68% and that’s a lot closer than they’ve come on any of their other economic projections.

The other day I had to go to the Emergency Room at my local hospital.

I knew there would be a long line of people waiting to be helped, and not wanting to sit there for 4 hours, I downloaded a logo off the internet and slapped it on a khaki shirt I bought down at the local army surplus store.

When I walked into the E.R., about 3/4 of the people
in front of me in line instantaneously and simultaneously began feeling better. They got up and left, which cut at least 3 hours off my waiting time.

It also saved me twenty minutes at the grocery store, fifteen minutes at the bank, and three minutes after entering the laundromat, I had my choice of machines, most of them still running.

Don’t try it at McDonald’s, though. The whole crew will get up and walk out and you’ll never get your order.

MSNBC runs out of white people

It had to happen sooner or later. When every program, every day, points the finger at someone on the right and cries “racist”, it’s inevitable that you’re eventually going to run out of white people to smear with that label. So on Friday MSNBC switched to a black man.

MSNBC’s Ed Schultz invited Karen Hunter on for a repeat of her past performances in which she cried “racist”. But this time she smeared a black man, RNC Chairman Michael Steele. Why Steele you ask? Because the “news” network had already trashed Bachman, Bush and Beck in their earlier programs and had Palin, O’Reilly and the Tea Party scheduled for later in the day.

(As a public service, we’d like to point out that the segment begins at about the 5:30 mark. No reason to watch any more Ed than necessary.)

Hunter attacked Steele because he is touring America in a “Fire Pelosi” bus and said that Nancy Pelosi “should ride in the back.” We assume Hunter deems the statement to be racist because no Caucasian has ever ridden in the back of a bus.

Of course, it wouldn’t be MSNBC if there wasn’t blatant hypocrisy mixed in with their cries of racism, so in maligning Steele, Hunter declared, “I’m waiting for him to put on white face and do a reverse minstrel show.”

Yes, Hunter accused Steele of being a racist using language that cannot be construed as anything but racist.

Rolypoly Eddie laughed along, failing to point out the blatant hypocrisy due to either his ignorance or his dishonesty. Sorry we can’t be more definitive, but it’s hard to tell where one ends and the other begins on The Ed Show.

Robert Gibbs accidentally reveals why the President’s economic policies have failed

Robert Gibbs is truly like the blind sow that occasionally stumbles upon an acorn. Telling the truth isn’t something he ever plans to do, but sometimes it just happens by accident.

Robert Gibbs is truly like the blind sow that occasionally stumbles upon an acorn. Telling the truth isn’t something he ever plans to do, but sometimes it just happens by accident.

The Hill reveals the latest Gibbsean revelation:

robert gibbs economic team exhausted
Sssssh! The Obama economic team is trying to catch a little well-deserved shuteye.

President Obama’s economic team is exhausted, according to White House spokesman Robert Gibbs, and that is one the reasons Christina Romer announced her departure Thursday.

Gibbs dismissed reports that Romer, the outgoing chairwoman of the president’s council for economic affairs, was leaving because of conflicts with Larry Summers, the director of the National Economic Council.

The press secretary told The Hill on Friday that Romer and the rest of the economic team have worked the equivalent of six years during the 18 months they’ve been in office, and Romer wanted to return to her normal life.

If that’s truly the case, and we must assume it is, because the Obama administration zealously protects the truth, it’s no wonder they’re exhausted. Let’s do a little math.

Gibbs claims the economic team has worked the equivalent of 6 years in just 1.5 years. The normal work week is 40 hours, so that means the President’s economic team is working 160 hours per week (1.5 years x 4 = 6 years and 40 hours per week x 4 = 160 hours per week).

Since there are only 168 hours in a seven day week (24 x 7 = 168), that leaves each member of the economic team just 8 hours of non-work time per week.

If we assume the average commute time for a member of the economic team is 30 minutes each way and they work 7 days a week (which they would have to do, because it’s mathematically impossible to work 160 hours per week in less than 7 days), that eats up another 7.0 hours per week.

Then let’s say they have absolutely no personal responsibilities because their spouses recognize the vital importance of their work and and agree to take out the trash, walk the dog, pay the bills and mow the lawn. This slavish devotion leaves the average member of the President’s economic team with enough time to sleep 1.0 hour per week (a tad less than 9 minutes per night).

In other words, the economic policies of this nation have been developed and executed by a gang of sleep-deprived zombies.

Finally, it all makes sense.

Global warming cooling kills millions of fish, thousands of alligators and dolphins

A record heat wave last month in Las Vegas, Washington, DC, and New York was headlined as proof of global warming. But mum’s the word among the media when it comes to the bitter, record cold wave gripping South America right now.

Argentina is actually colder than Antarctica and Bolivians are freezing their culos off. Even worse, Bolivia’s water-dependent wildlife is suffering tremendous losses.

BoliviaBella.com reveals the global warming cooling losses:

global cooling alligator bolivia cold
It's so cold in Bolivia that you can hear an alligator's teeth chattering before he takes your leg off

Over 1 million fish (now updated to more than 6 million fish) and thousands of alligators, turtles, dolphins and other river wildlife are floating dead in numerous Bolivian rivers in the three eastern/southern departments of Santa Cruz, Beni and Tarija. The extreme cold front that hit Bolivia in mid-July caused water temperatures to dip below the minimum temperatures river life can tolerate. As a consequence, rivers, lakes, lagoons and fisheries are brimming with decomposing fish and other creatures.

Unprecedented: Nothing like this has ever been seen in this magnitude in Bolivia. Inhabitants of riverside communities report the smell is nauseating and can be detected as far as a kilometer away from river banks. River communities, whose livelihoods depend on fishing, fear they’ll run out of food and will have nothing to sell. Authorities are concerned there will be a shortage of fish in markets and are more concerned by possible threats to public health, especially in communities that also use river water for bathing and drinking, but also fear contaminated or decaying fish may end up in market stalls. They’ve begun a campaign to ensure market vendors and the public know how to tell the difference between fresh and unhealthy fish.

Have you seen this news on the network news (assuming you’re one of the few people still watching network news)? Have you read any headlines mentioning the fact that California is experiencing its coolest summer in decades? Have you read that Australia’s drought is over? Or that the Canadian plains are experiencing the year with no summer?

Probably not. Katie Couric, Brian Williams and Diane Sawyer wanted to report those stories after they reported the record heat in Las Vegas, New York and Washington, DC, but oops, look at the clock. They’re out of time.

“Vote for me because I’m black” campaign strategy blackfires in Tennessee congressional race

If a white candidate had campaigned in the south by saying, “Vote for me because I’m white”, it would have been featured at the top of every newscast. But, somehow, someway, it garnered nary a mention when a black candidate said, “Vote for me because I’m black.”

If a white candidate had campaigned in the south by saying, “Vote for me because I’m white”, it would have been featured at the top of every newscast. But, somehow, someway, it garnered nary a mention when a black candidate said, “Vote for me because I’m black.”

Fox News has the discriminatory details:

steve-cohen-willie-herenton
Steve "White Devil" Cohen and Willie "Vote For Me Because I'm Black" Herenton

In a move that may have shocked even his most ardent supporters former Memphis mayor Willie Herenton stated flat out that his campaign for a seat in Congress to represent Tennessee in the 9th district will be based on race.

Holding up a picture of the 9th district representatives Herenton said, “This is an 11-member delegation. If you look at this picture, and you’re African-American, you sense the lack of representation,” ostensibly because there are no black congressmen or senators.

His opponent for the seat, incumbent Steve Cohen may be white, be he is also Jewish. He is the only Jewish member from Tennessee. What Herenton seems to have overlooked is that the largely black ninth district elected Cohen to his present position.

Herenton, who once referred to the residents of east Shelby county as “white devils” has made quite a name for himself by not hesitating to whip out the race card to get what he wants. During his almost twenty years as Memphis mayor Herenton made an issue of race and once, after another reelection victory said that “God had ordained him” for the position.

Apparently, God did not ordain a position in Congress for Herenton, because he only got 21% of the vote, which is about 21% more than he should have received.

Cohen’s campaign strategy should have been, “Vote for me because I’m not a race baiting moron.” That’s a Democrat platform we could have supported.

The carmaker gave $41,000 to groups associated with lawmakers, the vast majority of it — $36,000 — to the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, the company reported on a disclosure form last week. The CBC Foundation is a charity with 11 members of the Congressional Black Caucus on its board.

“We’ve always given to the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation as far back as anyone can remember,” said Greg Martin, GM spokesman. “Our commitment remains unabated, and we continue to be a proud supporter of their work to advance economic development in communities throughout the U.S.”

Henry Ford said, “You can have it in any color you want as long as it’s black.” General Motors has apparently amended that to, “You can have it in any color you want as long as it’s the Congressional Black Caucus.”

The Boy Scout salute. Two fingers too many.

The President of the United States traditionally serves as honorary president of the Boys Scouts of America. But when the 100th anniversary of the Boys Scouts rolled around in late July, President Obama was just too darn busy to attend the event in person. You know, that darn TV appearance on The View and a couple fundraisers for struggling Democrats just took precedence over getting together with a bunch of kids who aren’t old enough to vote once, much less several times.

But Obama did the next best thing – he taped a message that was broadcast to the 40,000+ Boy Scouts attending the National Jamboree in Virginia. The Scouts responded by enthusiastically booing the canned speech.

Obama delivers on his promise of racial harmony: Everyone agrees that they like him less

Obama’s job approval ratings among blacks, whites, and Hispanics in July are all at their lowest levels to date, although the overwhelming majority of blacks still approve.

obama-rainbow-unicorn-racial-harmony
Rainbows, unicorns and racial harmony: It's all possible thanks to Barack Obama

There’s an interesting first paragraph in Gallup’s report on their latest survey of Obama’s approval. We say interesting because we think they could have skipped the first sentence and gone directly to the second sentence.

The first sentence:

President Obama’s job approval rating averaged 88% among blacks and 38% among whites in July, a 50-percentage-point difference that has been consistent in recent months but is much larger than in the initial months of the Obama presidency.

The second sentence, the one that should have started the story:

Obama’s job approval ratings among blacks, whites, and Hispanics in July are all at their lowest levels to date, although the overwhelming majority of blacks still approve.

Isn’t the real story here that Obama has hit new lows with every group?

Blacks’ approval of the job Obama is doing dipped below the 90% threshold for the second month in a row in July; the 88% July average is the lowest monthly average approval rating blacks have given Obama yet, although not significantly lower than the 89% recorded in June.

The slight drop in blacks’ ratings since May matches the pattern among whites and Hispanics. Obama’s June and July ratings among whites are the lowest monthly ratings of his administration among that group, as is his 54% July rating among Hispanics.

Whites’ approval of Obama is down 24 points from the high of 62% in January 2009. Hispanics’ approval has dropped 28 points from its 82% peak in May 2009. Blacks’ approval has been much more stable, falling seven points from the high of 95% in June 2009.

Of course, if 95% of whites disapproved of him, it would surely be a sign of America’s deep raaaacism. Pure, unadulterated raaaacism.

Welcome to America 2010, racist.

Get this through your head: IHateTheMedia.com does not give away free cell phones

Waaaaaay back in March 2009, we ran a story headlined Safelink Wireless: Exposing the government’s cell-phones-for the-poor scam. Is there anything in that headline that would make anyone think we support this gross giveaway?

It was all about a company called SafeLink Wireless and the fact that they will give you a free cell phone and free monthly minutes as long as you’re already receiving other government assistance.

For some reason we are apparently unable to comprehend, this is our all-time most popular story. Day in and day, 365 days a year, it’s our one of our top five most read and most commented on stories.

But even more amazing, we constantly get emails from readers who think IHateTheMedia.com is giving away these phones, or that we are Safelink Customer Service.

For example:

From Pamela: i have a safelink phone u sent me and 1 it was someones phone b 4 I got it & 2 now its saying i have to reapply, so i tryed and it wont let me. so how can u say u are helpping people by giving them free phones now i have no phone im almost 60 and im disabled and live alone so if i need help ill just have to sit here and die cuz i cant use a safeliknk phone to call for help. lets see what our gov, thinks of all this mess u done now. thanks for not helping me.

And so it goes. Dozens of requests for a free cell phone. One after another, they just keep rolling in. Everyone want a free government cell phone.

We are not SafeLink Wireless. We are not affiliated with SafeLink Wireless in any way. We don’t like their service. We don’t approve of their service. We don’t sell cell phones. We don’t give away free cell phones. You won’t find a cell phone from the government here. Absolutely nothing.

Anderson Cooper 360 does a 180: CNN host apologizes for letting Shirley Sherrod smear Andrew Breitbart

CNN anchor Anderson Cooper actually went on the air and bitched himself out for allowing Shirley Sherrod to say that conservative Andrew Breitbart was a “vicious” racist who “would like to get us stuck back in the times of slavery.”

We’re late with this one, so we might as well be trite, too, and say, “Better late than never.”

CNN anchor Anderson Cooper actually went on the air and bitched himself out for allowing Shirley Sherrod to say that conservative Andrew Breitbart was a “vicious” racist who “would like to get us stuck back in the times of slavery.”

Cooper: I interviewed Shirley Sherrod last Thursday. And in the course of that interview, I failed to do something that I should have. I believe in admitting my mistakes. I looked at the interview again today, and Ms. Sherrod said during that interview that she thought Mr. Breitbart was a racist. She said, quote, “I think he would like to get us stuck back in the times of slavery.” She went on to say she believed his opposition to President Obama was based on racism. Now, she, of course, is free to believe whatever she wants, but I didn’t challenge her that night and I should have.

I don’t want anyone on my show to get away with saying things which cannot be supported by facts. I should have challenged her on what facts she believes supports that accusation. That’s my job, and I didn’t do it very well in that interview, and I’m sorry about it. If I get a chance to talk to her again, I will.

Now if Cooper really wanted to bring honesty to CNN, he’d apologize for Rick Sanchez’ stupidity and Larry King’s senility.

Mea culpa, baby.

Pence to the defense: Congressman excoriates Democrats for calling Tea Partiers “extremist”

Republican Congressman Mike Pence defends the Tea Party by doing something Democrats are loathe to do – he quotes the Founding Fathers.

Republican Congressman Mike Pence defends the Tea Party by doing something Democrats are loathe to do – he quotes the Founding Fathers. (Of course, libs think Franklin Roosevelt was the Founding Father, so it’s not surprising that they don’t quote Thomas Jefferson).

“Yesterday we learned of a new effort by Democrats in Washington to attack American citizens who speak their mind and peaceably assemble as ‘extremists or radicals.’ Demeaning tea party citizens, or other Americans who are simply saying ‘no’ to runaway spending, takeovers and bailouts, is beneath the dignity of a great political party and it smacks of desperation.”

And Pence was just getting warmed up.

Undercover blacks infiltrate Tea Party, reveal the evil truths they discovered

What’s that? They weren’t undercover? They were real members of the Tea Party? And they didn’t discover any vile racism?

What’s that? They weren’t undercover? They were real members of the Tea Party? And they didn’t discover any vile racism?

Well, crap, we probably won’t be seeing this on the evening news.
