The people at Vogue are still drinking the Kool-Aid. In fact, they’re swilling it. Need proof? How about the fact that they just named Michelle Obama to their Best Dressed of 2010 list.
They introduced the list with this gag-inducing, overwritten, under thought out prose:
Whether it’s sleek chic or cyberfantasy, silver-screen Hollywood glamour or Holly Woodlawn camp, whether it’s East End edge or East Egg flapper dazzle, from head (artful marcel waves, tumbled-out-of-bed tousle, or candy-floss high-rise) to toe (ballet slippers with dirndls or platforms with ball gowns), the ten individualists whom Vogue celebrates as the Best Dressed of 2010 are gamely rewriting the rules. Or rather, showing us all that there are no rules beyond staying true to oneself.
Let’s get serious, Vogue.
We were expecting another story like this to come along sooner or later, so we’ve been collecting recent photos that more accurately reflect Michelle Obama’s sense of fashion when she’s truly “staying true to herself.”

Jackie Kennedy she ain’t. In the above photo, Michelle stays true to herself by digging for gold in front of the Indonesian Prime Minister.

I’m sorry. I guess I’m just not getting the job done for the American people. I’m badly in need of an upgrade, butt you don’t want to hear me whine. I still think we should have been numero uno.

Kudos for the link.
I’d just like to take a moment to lecture all on the danger of Oompaloompa-itis. It starts from either the top or the bottom, and continues until the subject is mocked by all.

I believe it begins with being a pompous ass, lecturing people on what they should and should not eat, while eating like the Blob That Ate Cincinatti…
Controversial. What do you think?

I think the point of all this is how orwellian things have become, even in fashion, the truth is a lie and lies are truth. This woman is on the best dressed list when clearly she is not. This is just another symptom of the sychophantic left, savage the attractive non politician (Palin) for buying her clothes where the rest of us shop, but these to boors get the royal treatment. Reminds me of the former dictators of Romania. . . . it did not end well for them. . ..

FWIW, the last pic was photoshopped, the lady in the blue dress-her hand is in front of Michelle’s skirt yet she is a full step behind. . .

Agree. Moochelle was “shopped” in. Can see the rough edges, etc.
No matter, though, the message was clear

The point wasn’t that she was there or not. It was to show her frame in comparison to the other ladies. Also her lack of finesse.

The people at Vogue are either: 1. Blind; 2. Swilling the Kool-Aid; 3. Trying to get a job in the Administration; or 4. Lip-locked to her butt. Mrs. Obama (and it pains me to say this b/c I am an American) is a fashion disaster. Frumpish, grandmotherly, and hopelessly without clue one about style, she’s a walking bag lady poster. When he’s no longer the President, expect the people at Vogue to look back and say to themselves “What the heck was I thinking? Actually, I must not have been thinking. No person in their right mind would put this woman on a best-dressed anything.” Her bone structure and body type are not her biggest problem, it’s that her clothes actually enhance the bad parts. Anyone with the slightest sense of style knows clothes are supposed to enhance the good and minimize the bad; the clothes she wears do just the opposite.

The fashion industry is little short of bizarre on a good day — the stuff they cook up is often unwearable. They have to tone it down severely so that it will sell to the public. A fashionista would, of course, wear the wacky stuff, and someone with a position that requires class & dignity (say, a president’s wife) would wear something more understated that reflects some of the ideas that come down the pike. To wear the wacky stuff shows poor taste — she’s nowhere near a runway, and at a size 16, the only runway she should be at is at Reagan National Airport, where those arm flaps could double as airfoils.
She should pick out things that look classy. She *could* pull it off — she’s not horrible looking compared to Rosie O’Donnell — but not by wearing clothes that would only look good on a size 2.
I like what Billy Joel said so very long ago — “have you heard about the new style, honey, all’s you need are looks and a whole lot of money.” It is truly sad that Moochelle, with all the fashion-types just drooling at the chance to give her free clothes, has either no taste or no inner “I can’t wear _that_!” dialog, and is redefining the phrase “ugly as a mud fence” with clothing that would not get a second look at the local thrift store.
My guess is that she wears it because it’s free, the fashion people compliment her because it’s free advertising, and Vogue puts her on the list for the free exposure. Too bad it looks like shit on her, and they look like total idiots for doing it.
As to the conversation getting too catty? Well, it *is* about fashion — what else would it do?

The pic of the first ladies of Spain/France and Mrs. Obama evokes an image of a Ferrari and a Lamborghini next to a dump truck.
Perlcat, good line re: the runway.

Hey, you got a problem with dumptrucks? I’ve seen some really pretty ones. And I’d certainly rather drive a dumptruck than do ANYTHING with Michelle.

What’s the surprise? The left believes Presidente Michelle and first lady, I mean, husband Barry, Barack, whatever to be sent from Heaven to grace us with their presence. To the libs, these two can do no wrong. So since neither one fits any measure or standard of acceptable, decent morals, behavior, class, ethics, intelligence, attractiveness or leadership, we must change all to accomodate them. We as simple folk and mere mortals simply do not comprehend their greatness.
Reminds me of a guyism about girls. “Dude, if she doesn’t meet your standards, lower your standards!”
How someone with Michelles dress, mannerisms and appearance are fawned over shows how bad the left has the beer goggles on. Come on, this award?
What next, a Nobel Peace Prize to Barry for nothing? Oh SNAP! Too late.
Was that “caddy” enough for Donovan the troll?

And, Mr Editor, so eloquently stated, wouldn’t you agree?
What a moron…..it really is sad that so many blacks have been corrupted for so long about their cultural history in this country….it really is sad that even today, they still believe the lies…..

At least we “dumb, un-intelligent” posters, whether white, black, brown, or green with puple polkadots, can string together an intelligible sentence using standard English and proper spelling and grammar. Perhaps if you spent a little time learning, and less on adoration of the Obamas, you would have a richer, fuller life. You would then not have to be defensive and pull the race card for nothing. The Freedom Riders must be turning over in their graves to see how their work and suffering has been negated by their own people.

You know, my Mom says that I and my sister are both smart — but my sister is dumber than a box of hammers — it doesn’t mean anything other than Mom loves her kid, even if she is a democrat. A mother can overlook a lot of things, don’t you know.
I am going to take what you said as just part of that — while *I* may have the opinion that she dresses in the dark at Goodwill after chugging a couple bottles of Sneaky Pete, you have a right to your opinion, using, no doubt, a bowling shoe as your basis for a scientific comparison of ‘class’ and ‘beauty’.
However, leave race out of it. It makes you into a bigot.

Michelle Obama, dressed entirely in white at the D-Day Memorial, looking like she is going to strike carla bruni down with an axe.
this is neat, I’m black wearing white, and this white bitch has the nerve to wear black.

I think Carla Bruni had a tamale sitting on the other side of her, and Michelle was thinking how she was going to get around her without causing a scene.
