Paul Ryan says we’re at a fork in the road. And either way, we’re really forked.

Congressman Paul Ryan is one of the few politicians willing to tell the American people that they’re neck deep in a stinking pile of Democrat policy. Here’s what he had to say on CNBC’s Squawk Box the other day:

Congressman Paul Ryan is one of the few politicians willing to tell the American people that they’re neck deep in a stinking pile of Democrat policy.

Here’s what he had to say on CNBC’s Squawk Box the other day:

“Are we going to reclaim the American idea — an entrepreneurial economy where you make the most of your life, you tap your potential, we reinvigorate the principles of liberty, freedom, free enterprise — and defend the morality of that — or are we going to abandon that and switch over toward a European-style, cradle-to-grave welfare state where we drain people of their incentive and will to make the most of their lives and make them more dependent on the government?”

“[Progressives] believe that we ought to have the government so much more involved in our lives, as the more determining factor in our lives, rather than ourselves. So we have to ask ourselves a question: Do we want an entrepreneurial society that gets prosperity turned back on in the 21st century, where individual merit, entrepreneurial activity defines the American economy, or are we going to have more and more people dependent on the government for their livelihoods? And that is going to drain them of their ability and their will to make the most of their lives. That’s sort of the fork in the road we are at, and it’s really being precipitated by the current direction of our government and the debt crisis because of entitlement explosion that’s coming in the future. Those things are coming together. We’ve got to make a decision in 2010 and in 2012 what kind of country we want to be in the 21st century economy.”

Let the chant begin: “Ryan! Ryan! Ryan! Ryan! Ryan!”

Obama then: “I absolutely reject the notion that the individual mandate is a tax.” Obama now: “I was lying.”

Obama insisted to George Stephanoplous back in May 2009 that the Obamacare individual mandate was not a tax. Now his administrations argues it is.

Remember this contentious interview President Obama did with George Stephanoplous back in May 2009? The President insisted that the individual mandate called for under ObamaCare was not a tax and Stephanopolous pulled out the dictionary definition of a tax.

Turns out Obama had his fingers crossed, because his administration has now gone to court to defend ObamaCare and the key to their defense is that the individual mandate is a tax.

The New York Times has the details of the deception:

Administration officials say the tax argument is a linchpin of their legal case in defense of the health care overhaul and its individual mandate, now being challenged in court by more than 20 states and several private organizations.

Under the legislation signed by President Obama in March, most Americans will have to maintain “minimum essential coverage” starting in 2014. Many people will be eligible for federal subsidies to help them pay premiums.

In a brief defending the law, the Justice Department says the requirement for people to carry insurance or pay the penalty is “a valid exercise” of Congress’s power to impose taxes.

Congress can use its taxing power “even for purposes that would exceed its powers under other provisions” of the Constitution, the department said. For more than a century, it added, the Supreme Court has held that Congress can tax activities that it could not reach by using its power to regulate commerce.

Tax everyone! For everything! Tax ‘til the cows come home. Then tax the cows! And their milk! And the cartons it goes in! And then tax the trash you throw the cartons in! And then tax the tax!

For those of you who aren’t as mathematically-inclined as we are, that’s just a hair short of 28 trillion, which means that every single man, woman and child in the world visited IHTM more 4,000 times last month. Several fetuses, aliens and time travelers also stopped by.

What’s that? Alexa says we’re only the 54,800th busiest site in the world? Well, maybe so, but Alexa determines those rankings with an old-fashioned, simplistic formula, while we calculated our position by using the same highly-complex algorithm the Obama administration uses to determine that it has now “saved or created” 3,000,000 jobs.

And based on those calculations, we’re number one! We’re number one! We’re number one!

Brzezinski: I think we’re now going through a phase in which there is a sense of pervasive malaise, which affects different groups in society in different ways. So people are dissatisfied; they’re slightly worried; they don’t see a good certain future for themselves or for the country, but in their own narrow sphere. There’s no grand mobilizing idea. And I have a sense that Obama, who started so well, and who really captivated people—he captivated me!—has not been able yet to generate some sort of organizing idea for an age which combines a malaise that’s pervasive and percolating, and complexity…

Who was the big Democrat donor who was being wooed by the hot Russian spy?

Rumors are swirling around Washington and New York about the identity of the mysterious Democrat “whale” who was seduced by Anna Chapman, the hot Russian spy.

There's envy, but no class envy at IHTM. We hope billionaire Ron Perelman got lucky with this Russian spy.

Rumors are swirling around Washington and New York about the identity of the mysterious Democrat “whale” who was seduced by Anna Chapman, the hot Russian spy.

Here’s one possibility gleaned from a story in the Denver Post on January 30, 2009 about billionaire Ron Perelman and ex-wife Ellen Barkin:

Barkin, 54, pocketed $60 million from Perelman, 66, who slapped her with divorce papers in 2006, then booted her from his East 63rd Street mansion. But she quickly struck back. The “Sea of Love” actress auctioned off more than 100 jewels he’d lavished on her, netting an additional $20.3 million.

And when she bumped into Perelman at the Waverly Inn with new girlfriend Anna Chapman, Barkin threw a glass of water in his face and hissed at Chapman: “I feel sorry for you that you have to (bleep) him tonight.”

Well, Perelman definitely qualifies as a big Democrat donor and this story links him to an Anna Chapman. But if this was the Russian spy, what kind of secret information did she expect to get out of the leveraged buy-out king? His PIN number?

Is this the same Anna Chapman? Probably not. But as graduates of the MSNBC school of journalism, we thought there was no reason to let facts get in the way of a good story.

Stone’s movie about Hugo Chavez sinks like a rock

Oliver Stone’s movie “South of the Border,” an impassioned defense of the Hugo Chavez, has bombed at the box office at both Venezuela and the U.S..

A couple weeks ago we did a story about Venezuelan filmgoers complete rejection of Oliver Stone’s movie “South of the Border,” an impassioned defense of the South American country’s dictator. The total box office take during the movie’s first eleven days was a meager, but amusing $18,601.

Sure, you say, but that was in Venezuela where the Bolivar or Doubloon or whatever monetary unit they use is worth about 3¢. Just wait ‘til it gets to the United States. It’ll surely be box office gold here.

Wrong.

WWTD has the background on this muy grande box office bomb:

“South of the Border’s” $111,000-plus haul over three weeks of release seems beneath a director of Stone’s reputation.

The film can only be seen in seven theaters at the moment, and that’s despite heavy media play for the once great director. Perhaps theater owners know audiences will have little appetite for the film, which even liberal minded movie critics have labeled second-rate propaganda

$111,000 won’t pay for the cost of cocaine and champagne at the premiere party.

Consider it another sign that (a) Americans are rejecting leftist philosophy and (b) Oliver Stone is a moron.

Nancy Pelosi guarantees that Democrats will hold the House, Republicans send out clip from Animal House

White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs’ truth didn’t sit well with Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, who sent out a new fundraising email.

White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs committed the cardinal sin of telling the truth when he admitted that the Democrats might lose control of the House come November.

That didn’t sit well with Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, who sent out a new fundraising email in which she said:

“Here is what will happen in November. Democrats will keep control of the House. Period.”

In response, the Republican National Committee sent out this clip from Animal House that perfectly describes what’s going on behind closed doors with the Democrats.

D’oh. Mitch McConnell just destroyed any chance Republicans had to cut into the Democrat base:

“What Republicans are offering the American people is a pledge,” McConnell said, “a pledge to do everything in our power to restore government to a size and scope that leads to some semblance of competency. We’re not going to tell you that if you vote Republican, you’re going to wake up in your dream home with a brand new Corvette outside ready to take you to the best job in the world. You know why? Because government can’t deliver that promise.”

Apparently, McConnell is willing to cede the deadbeat vote to the Democrats.

What we have here is a basic contradiction between what NAACP President Ben Jealous said on Thursday and what he said earlier in the week. Damn inconvenient videos.

Politico reports his Thursday comments:

NAACP President Ben Jealous said Thursday that the resolution passed by the group on Wednesday does not call the tea party “racist.”

No?

A portion of the resolution does indeed characterize the behavior as “racist,” but Jealous said Thursday during an interview on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” that the resolution was not intended to condemn the entire movement as such.

“We aren’t saying that the tea party is racist,” Jealous said. “What we’re saying is that with their increasing power comes an increasing responsibility to act responsibly…and to call out when they see those things on those signs.”

And furthermore:

Asked if he thought members of the tea party are racially insensitive, Jealous responded: “No, not at all.”

Of course, this is a little hard to square with the video clip above in which Jealous says the Tea Party is a direct descendent of white supremacist groups.

But never let it be said that Jealous let truth get in the way of a good line of bullshit.

White House science czar wants America to surrender to a “planetary regime”

Science Czar John Holdren wants America to be absorbed by The Regime

“You will be assimilated into the collective. Resistance is futile.”

There’s something wrong when the White House Science Czar sounds more like the Science Fiction Czar.

Turns out John Holdren wrote a truly alarming 1970s college textbook, “Ecoscience: Population, Resources, Environment,” with discredited population alarmists Paul and Anne Ehrlich.

World Net Daily has details of the text’s contents:

The authors argued that involuntary birth-control measures, including forced sterilization, may be necessary and morally acceptable under extreme conditions, such as widespread famine brought about by “climate change.”

They recommended the creation of a “planetary regime” created to act as an “international superagency for population, resources, and environment.”

“Such a Planetary Regime could control the development, administration, conservation, and distribution of all natural resources, renewable or nonrenewable, at least insofar as international implications exist,” they argued.

“Thus, the Regime could have the power to control pollution not only in the atmosphere and the oceans, but also in such freshwater bodies as rivers and lakes that cross international boundaries or that discharge into the oceans.”

Those are the words of your White House Science Czar, who is obviously a member of both the Democrat Party and the Borg. Not that there’s much difference.

Chris Matthews just can’t figure out how racist South Carolina voters can vote for an Indian-American

Chris Matthews is completely incapable of comprehending how those racist voters in South Carolina can possibly support Indian-American Republican Nikki Haley while rejecting black-white Barack Obama.

Race is everything to the left. And that leaves poor, confused Chris Matthews completely incapable of comprehending how those racist voters in South Carolina can possibly support Indian-American Republican Nikki Haley while rejecting black-white Barack Obama.

“How do you figure your state out?” Matthews asked Rep. Bob Inglis. “It’s pretty conservative obviously. It’s Strom Thurmond country in many ways and, and it has people like DeMint pretty far over and then people like Lindsey Graham who are sort of regular conservatives. But then you nominated, your party has nominated an Indian-American woman, Nikki Haley. Obviously an attractive candidate, she knows how to present herself obviously, but what’s that about? Is that just an interesting little aspect? “It’s okay to be Indian-American but we got a problem with this black president?” What’s that about?”

That whirring sound you hear is Martin Luther King spinning in his grave.

Democrat Party turns into Donner Party, begins eating its own

There’s absolutely nothing more fun than watching Democrats turn on Democrats.

There’s absolutely nothing more fun than watching Democrats turn on Democrats.

As NewsBusters.org so aptly put it:

Drudge has links up about the White House waving the white flag, having a “credibility crisis,” and hitting the panic button. This evening’s Ed Show gave another hot and salty taste of the Dem meltdown, as Ed ripped Harry Reid for calling Pres. Obama, in Schultz’s words, “a big wimp.” In a formal TV interview, Reid has accused PBO of being insufficiently “firm” and “forceful,” describing him as “a person who doesn’t like confrontation.”

Lib talker Bill Press also hit Harry, but at the same time effectively agreed with Reid’s critique, saying that Obama had been too nice to Republicans and that “nobody in this town is afraid of Pres. Obama.” Schultz, meanwhile, accused Reid of being a weak leader.

If he keeps this up, Ed Schultz may finally pick up a few viewers.

“Yes we can” becomes “Yeah, yeah, we’ll get to it eventually”

According to the Los Angeles Times, not exactly a bastion of conservative viewpoints, the Obama administration is not doing well with it’s crazy freakin’ liberal base.

barack obama sad
Yes we can! Yes we can! Yes we can!

According to the Los Angeles Times, not exactly a bastion of conservative viewpoints, the Obama administration is not doing well with it’s crazy freakin’ liberal base.

The Times explains:

“When he ran for president, Barack Obama attacked the George W. Bush administration for putting political concerns ahead of science on such issues as climate change and public health. And during his first weeks in the White House, President Obama ordered his advisors to develop rules to “guarantee scientific integrity throughout the executive branch.”

Many government scientists hailed the president’s pronouncement. But a year and a half later, no such rules have been issued. Now scientists charge that the Obama administration is not doing enough to reverse a culture that they contend allowed officials to interfere with their work and limit their ability to speak out.”

So basically, liberals are saying that despite all the “hopey changey” campaign rhetoric, the reality is that Obama is just as guilty of choosing politics over science as the Bush administration was ever accused of being. In fact, the article goes on to say:

“We are getting complaints from government scientists now at the same rate we were during the Bush administration,” said Jeffrey Ruch, an activist lawyer who heads an organization representing scientific whistle-blowers.

But interviews with several scientists – most of whom requested anonymity because they feared retaliation in their jobs – as well as reviews of e-mails provided by Ruch and others show a wide range of complaints during the Obama presidency.

What a bunch of cry babies these scientists are. Of course, the Greatest President in the History of the World will fulfill his promises just as soon as he:

  • Stops the leak in the Gulf
  • Gets Unemployment under 8%
  • Closes Gitmo
  • Saves the whales
  • Gets the broom stick of the Wicked Witch of the West
  • Gets the C-SPAN coverage of all his backroom meetings going
  • Shuts Blago up once and for all
  • Shuts Joe Sestak up once and for all (Where did he go, anyway?)
  • Shuts Andrew Romanoff up once and for all
  • Closes down the State of Arizona
  • Gets the New Black Panthers to puh-leeze stop talking to the media
  • Gets Eric Holder to puh-leeze stop talking to the media
  • Figures out a word that sounds better than Socialism

Then, scientists – after the great and powerful Obama squeezes in one last round of golf – he will no doubt focus his laser-like Presidential vision on your petty little problems.

CNSnews.com has the addictive details:

The U.S. government has spent $410,625 to study the effects of teaching Chinese meditation to cocaine addicts.

“Our clinical experience and pilot studies suggest that Integrative Meditation from Chinese medicine may help clients engage in treatment, reduce cravings/withdrawal symptoms, and increase treatment retention, which appear missed by a typical behavior therapy,” says the official description of the project published by the National Institutes of Health.

What they should really be studying is the idiotic spending in Washington, DC. That’s something that seems to be really addictive.

stimulus road signs

Barack Obama and the Democrat party are using millions of your tax dollars to put up road signs praising themselves just before the midterm elections. Oh, sure, the signs are disguised as government neutral, but make no mistake, they are campaign posters.

It’s egregious enough that even ABC News felt compelled to report the story:

As the midterm election season approaches, new road signs are popping up everywhere – millions of dollars worth of signs touting “The American Reinvestment and Recovery Act” and reminding passers-by that the program is “Putting America Back to Work.”

On the road leading to Dulles Airport outside Washington, DC there’s a 10′ x 11′ road sign touting a runway improvement project funded by the federal stimulus. The project cost nearly $15 million and has created 17 jobs, according to recovery.gov.

However, there’s another number that caught the eye of ABC News: $10,000. That’s how much money the Washington Airports Authority tells ABC News it spent to make and install the sign – a single sign – announcing that the project is “Funded by The American Reinvestment and Recovery Act” and is “Putting America Back to Work.” The money for the sign was taken out of the budget for the runway improvement project.

The story continues:

Edward R. Carr is talking to the media about the fact that the IPCC doesn't want him talking to the media

Remember the good ol’ days when climate scientists were encouraged to spread the word about global warming?

You know, back before ClimateGate and news about the glaciers not melting and the coral not bleaching and the sea levels not rising and the rain forests not disappearing. Ahhh, those were the days.

But times have changed and now the IPCC wants scientists to avoid the press as if they have some horrible global warming-caused disease.

The New York Times has the story:

The 831 researchers who will contribute to the next round of assessments of climate science and policy options by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change have been sent a letter admonishing them to “keep a distance from the media” and send any press inquiries about the work of their author groups to supervisors.

On Friday, one recipient of the letter, Edward R. Carr, an associate professor of geography at the University of South Carolina who will work on the assessment of climate impacts and adaptation options, complained about the letter in a post on his blog under the heading “ Apparently we have learned nothing….”

He warned that the panel appears stuck in a “bunker mentality” that will do little to build its credibility after a trying year of attacks by foes of restrictions on greenhouse gases and skeptics of climate science. In an e-mail message alerting me to Carr’s post, Mickey Glantz, a University of Colorado specialist in climate impacts in poor regions who has been an author on previous panel reports, said he agreed with Carr, adding: “I think the I.P.C.C. is on the wrong path.”

Polar bears are also being encouraged to avoid the media, lest children find out they really aren’t dying out.

Who’s to blame for Obama’s collapsing poll numbers? Spoiled Americans like you.

Well, whatever you do, don’t blame Obama’s plunging poll numbers on his failed policies. Blame spoiled, idiot Americans like lib talker Bill Press does.

Press: I think this says more about the American people than it does about President Obama. I think it just shows once again that the American people are spoiled. Basically, spoiled– as a people, we are too critical. We are quick to rush to judgment, we are too negative, we are too impatient. Especially impatient. We want it all solved yesterday, and if you don’t, I don’t care who you are — get out of the way. And again, basically spoiled. To the point where it makes me wonder if it’s even possible to govern today. I gotta tell you, I don’t think Abraham Lincoln — who certainly didn’t get everything right the first time — could govern today. I’m not sure Franklin Roosevelt could govern today, the way we are again. Just about like spoiled children. And it’s Americans, and it’s the media, and if we don’t get instant gratification, then screw you is basically our attitude.

Press is right. Americans are too damn spoiled to know what’s good for themselves. That’s why it’s good that socialists like Press and Obama are willing to make those decisions for them.
