Here’s a joke that perfectly illustrates the fundamental difference between the citizens of our country and the politicians who run it.

One day a florist went to a barber for a haircut. After the cut, he asked how much he owed, and the barber replied, “I cannot accept money from you. I’m doing community service this week.” The florist was pleased and left the shop.
When the barber went to open his shop the next morning, there was a ‘thank you’ card and a dozen roses waiting for him at his door.
The next day, a cop came in for a haircut, and when he tried to pay his bill, the barber again replied, “I cannot accept money from you. I’m doing community service this week.” The cop was happy and left the shop.
When the barber arrived at his shop the following morning, there was a ‘thank you’ card and a dozen donuts waiting for him at his door.
Then a Congressman came in for a haircut, and when he went to pay his bill, the barber again replied, “I cannot accept money from you. I’m doing community service this week.” The Congressman was very happy and left the shop.
The next morning when the barber arrived at work, there were a dozen Congressmen lined up waiting for free haircuts.
And that perfectly illustrates the fundamental difference between the citizens of our country and the politicians who run it.
Turns out Bernie Madoff is dying and may not spend long in prison. Maybe Muammar Gaddafi needs a financial advisor. Could someone ask Scottish Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill to look into that?

No wonder Bernie Madoff was so willing to accept all the blame for his massive con game. Turns out he’s dying and may not spend long in prison.
The New York Post reports:
“He’s been taking about 20 pills a day for his cancer,” said one inmate. “He talks about it all the time. He’s not doing very well.”
There’s been much speculation as to why Madoff took the entire fall for the scheme — and rumors of his suffering from pancreatic cancer surfaced many months before he arrived at the Butner, NC, complex in June.
The prisoners did not confirm that’s the form of cancer he’s suffering.
Maybe Muammar Gaddafi needs a financial advisor. Could someone ask Scottish Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill to look into that? Oh, and don’t forget the hero’s welcome.

Looks like cowardly Harry Reid, the Senate majority leader who was so quick to declare that we’d lost in Iraq, may soon need to declare another defeat – his own.
Here’s how the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports the results of its latest poll:
It’s the highest stakes ever for a Nevada election, and former boxer Sen. Harry Reid is on the ropes early. Either Republican Danny Tarkanian or Sue Lowden would knock out Reid in a general election, according to a recent poll of Nevada voters.
The results suggest the Democratic Senate majority leader will have to punch hard and often in order to retain his position as the most accomplished politician in state history, in terms of job status.
Nevadans favored Tarkanian over Reid 49 percent to 38 percent and Lowden over Reid 45 percent to 40 percent, according to the poll.
Reid’s status makes him an icon of the Democratic Party and ties him to Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and President Barack Obama, both of whom are losing ground among centrist and right-leaning voters in the country.
Looks like it won’t be long before Harry can return to his beloved Nevada and his even more beloved crooked real estate deals.

Gerd Leipold, the outgoing leader of Greenpeace finally admitted to BBC reporter Stephen Sackur that the organization may have made a bit of mistake when it claimed that Arctic ice will disappear by 2030.
Getting a member of Greenpeace to admit they flat out lied about the imminent disappearance of Arctic ice was tougher than drowning a polar bear.
Yet, after repeated questioning, Gerd Leipold, the outgoing leader of Greenpeace finally admitted to BBC reporter Stephen Sackur that the organization may have made a bit of mistake lied when it claimed that Arctic ice will disappear by 2030.
“I don’t think it will be melting by 2030…That may have been a mistake,” he said.
Weakening the organization’s credibility even further, Leipold admitted that Greenpeace is often guilty of “emotionalizing issues” in an attempt scare the hell out of people.
Then he got to the real heart of the matter – the only way to stop global warming is to destroy the American economy.
“We will definitely have to move to a different concept of growth…The lifestyle of the rich in the world is not a sustainable model,” Leipold observed. “If you take the lifestyle, its cost on the environment, and you multiply it with the billions of people and an increasing world population, you come up with numbers which are truly scary.”
Scary. Sort of like the phony story about the Arctic ice melting.

The report also revealed that through the end of June that stimulus money created or saved 796 jobs, with 700 of those state workers who did not have to get laid off thanks to the federal grants, Fitch said. Federal highway money accounted for 75 jobs and weatherization programs kept or added 16 to the payroll, he added.
IHateTheMedia.com’s next door neighbor is a liberal who owns an engineering and construction company that specializes in building bridges. We asked him if all that stimulus money had impacted his business.
He laughed.
“They talk about rebuilding the infrastructure but, in reality, all the stimulus money is going to street paving projects because they can be done quickly,” he said. “They’re even repaving streets and highways that don’t need to be repaved just to make it look like they’re doing something.”
That seems to be confirmed by this story from New Hanpshire’s Nashua Telegraph: Continue reading “Stimulus money created or saved 796 jobs in New Hampshire. 700 of them were government jobs.”
The American people stood and applauded for ObamaCare. OK, well, maybe they didn’t applaud.

It just seems so appropriate that a black American communist singer should be combined with a demonstration of Russian nesting dolls in a heartfelt salute to the incredible shrinking presidency of the most leftist American leaders in history.
The training wheels are coming off the presidential bicycle. All the polls – Zogby, Gallup, NBC, Pew – show Barack Obama’s popularity hitting new lows.
ObamaCare is in intensive care. Cash-for-Clunkers was a lemon. Amnesty is going south. His agenda is falling apart faster than a General Motors car.
With that in mind, we present the Russian song “Shiroka Strana Moya Rodnaya” (“My Spacious Homeland”) performed in Russian by Hollywod Communist Paul Robeson.

A bill introduced Republican Congressman Thaddeus McCotter of Michigan would allow a tax deduction of up to $3,500 for your pet care expenses.
Call this one McCotterCare. A bill introduced Republican Congressman Thaddeus McCotter of Michigan would allow a tax deduction of up to $3,500 for your pet care expenses.
The Humanity and Pets Partnered Through the Years (“HAPPY”) Act would allow you to deduct “an amount equal to the qualified pet care expenses of the taxpayer during the taxable year for any qualified pet of the taxpayer.” The annual deduction would be capped at $3,500.
McCotter’s bill would be restricted to “qualified pets,” so a domesticated animal wouldn’t be eligible if it were used for commercial purposes. That means the horse you ride to work when Cap-and-Trade passes will not qualify.
We love Thaddeus McCotter and we love animals. Neveretheless, we wanted to believe this was a parody of ObamaCare. Unfortunately, after watching this video we’re afraid McCotter is serious.
Please feel free to consider McCotterCare proof positive that the Chinese have slipped LSD into Washington, DC’s water supply.

Grist who calls itself “the most recognizable voice in environmental journalism,” reports that Slow Food USA will launch a new Time for Lunch campaign with a series of “Eat-Ins” across the fruited plain.

Grist calls itself “the most recognizable voice in environmental journalism.” They might want to add “the most recognizable voice in crisis creation.” But that might be redundant.
It reports that Slow Food USA will launch a new Time for Lunch campaign with a series of “Eat-Ins” across the fruited plain.
All you need to know about this effort can be found in the names of the participating organizations – Sustainable Table, The Center for Ecoliteracy, Roots of Change, and Edible Communities among others.
What’s the goal? Exactly what you thought – to muscle Congress into doubling the federal contribution to school lunches from $1 to $2 per meal.
“Modeled on the sit-ins of the 60s,” Grist reports, “these Eat-Ins are potluck picnics to raise awareness. They are a call to action for our kids, alongside Slow Food’s signature celebration of local, sustainable, traditional food. Here’s a simple salad that’s delicious and ample enough to bring to an Eat-In near you.
Anchovy, Goat Cheese and Romaine Salad
8 cloves garlic
1 teaspoon kosher salt
40 anchovy fillets—rinsed and chopped
6 ounces red wine vinegar
1 cup olive oil
1 teaspoon black pepper
6 heads romaine lettuce—rinsed and coarsely chopped
12 ounces fresh goat cheese—crumbled
1 cup red onion—mincedPlace garlic, salt, and anchovy fillets in food processor; pulse until chopped. Add red wine vinegar, and then puree. Slowly add in olive oil while motor is running. Add black pepper. Toss greens with vinaigrette. Garnish with goat cheese and red onion.
Mmmmmm. Looks like next Tuesday is Anchovy, Goat Cheese and Romaine Salad day in the cafeteria.
Can’t wait to see the kids line up for that one.

You know, there are times we almost feel sorry for Joe Biden. The poor guy just doesn’t seem to get any attention from his boss President Obama.

You know, there are times we almost feel sorry for Joe Biden. The poor guy out-doofuses Al Gore, which isn’t easy.
The Veep spoke about the Bush administration during a recent fundraiser in Florida. After another speaker suggested that former President Bush had leaned heavily on Vice President Cheney for guidance, Biden set the record straight.
That’s not how the Obama administration works, he told the crowd.
“He’s the president, I’m the vice president. We’ve got the pecking order in this administration right,” Biden said.
The way we interpret that comment, Bush listened to advice from his vice president, but Obama doesn’t give Biden the time of day.
First thing this administration’s done that makes any sense.

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Sunday shows that 27% of the nation’s voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as President. Forty-one percent (41%) Strongly Disapprove giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -14.

What could be better to accompany this story than this lovely rendition of “How Low Can You Go” by the Honeys.
These figures mark the lowest Approval Index rating yet recorded for this President. The previous low of -12 was reached on July 30.
Prior to today, the number who Strongly Approved of the President’s performance had never fallen below 29%. Some of the decline has come from within the President’s own party. Just 49% of Democrats offer such a positive assessment of the President at this time.
At the other end of the spectrum, today’s total for Strongly Disapprove matches the highest level yet recorded. The 41% mark was reached just once before and that came one week ago today. Seventy percent (70%) of Republicans now Strongly Disapprove along with 49% of those not affiliated with either major party.
Enjoy your vacation, Mr. President.

Can’t wait to hear the Obama administration explain this: the top three states took home 66% of bailout dollars and the top five nearly 84% of the total, which leaves a paltry 15% to be divvied up between the remaining 45 states and territories.
Can’t wait to hear the Obama administration explain why the bailout is overwhelmingly concentrated in a small handful of states.
According to the ProPublica data, a total of $476.5 billion in bailout money has been doled out so far. New York, has garnered $175 billion, more than one third of the total. Michigan walked off with $80.7 billion, North Carolina netted $56.3 billion, Virginia totaled $54.9 billion, and California picked up $34.4 billion.
(Our thanks for thesaurus.com for the assistance with the previous paragraph).
That means the top three states took home 66% of bailout dollars and the top five nearly 84% of the total, which leaves a paltry 15% to be divvied up between the remaining 45 states and territories.
That should be just enough for a road sign in your neighborhood that says, “This construction project paid for by The Greatest President In History and the generous benefactors of the Democrat-controlled Congress of the United States.”
No construction projects, mind you, but some very nice signs.

Ante up the out-of-state tuition and send your little darlings to the University of Oregon where they can major in Community Organizing and minor in Liberal Claptrap.
This report from the Weekly Standard proves the point:
I received an email at my University of Oregon account today informing me that there are “intern opportunities with Organizing for America,” formerly Obama for America. According to the email, OFA is launching what it calls the “National Organizing Internship” for college students around the country. From the email:
Organizing Interns work side by side with OFA staff and community leaders to help build support for President Obama’s agenda. They will learn core organizing principles that are crucial for any campaign.

Of course, this is the same magnanimous television network that turned an entire night of its valuable primetime programming over to the President a few weeks ago so he could hype his socialized medicine scheme.
Turning down a commercial is an especially puzzling decision since network television rating and revenues have slumped substantially. Money be money. Yet ABC declined to take the income it would have earned by running the commercial produced by the League of American Voters.

We take you back three years to President Bush’s State of the Union address from three years back when Democrats cheered the defeat of social security reform. Just look at the maniacal look on Hillary Clinton’s face. That says it all.
Republican Congressman Spencer Bachus hopes that Democrats notice that big turd floating in the punchbowl sometime soon. Because they’ve been ignoring it for years.

“Social Security could face default within two years,” he said. “The situation is much worse than people realize, especially because of the problems brought on by the recession, near depression.”
“…People don’t seem to know that,” he continued. “What this recession has done to Social Security is pretty alarming.”
“We’ve known for 15 years that we were going to have to make adjustment to Social Security, but we still thought that was seven or eight years down the road. But if things don’t improve very quickly, we’re going to be dealing with that problem before we know it.”
And with that we take you back three years to President Bush’s State of the Union address when Democrats cheered the defeat of social security reform. Just look at the maniacal look on Hillary Clinton’s face. That says it all.

Malaysia’s government-run news service has carried an article by a Malaysian physician who claims homosexuality and masturbation make the body an easy target for swine flu.
The Malaysian government is pretty darn sure that homosexuality causes swine flu.
Yes, you read that correctly. Malaysia’s government-run news service has carried an article by a Malaysian physician who claims homosexuality and masturbation make the body an easy target for swine flu.
Dr. V. M. Palaniappan, an eminent practitioner of complimentary therapy, claims the friction that develops during homosexual acts and masturbation causes the body to develop heat which results in the body becoming hyper-acidized.
“Thus,” according to the hypothesis, “the body becomes an easy target for H1N1 infection.”
The good news: According to his theory, sex between members of the opposite sex is absolutely safe.
Friction and all.

It looks like Paul Krugman of the New York Times has an accuracy percentage that’s approaching baseball’s Mendoza line. So it must be particularly galling for Krugman when his lack of accuracy is exposed by his own newspaper.

Is anyone keeping a scorecard? Because it looks like Paul Krugman of the New York Times has an accuracy percentage that’s approaching baseball’s Mendoza line.
So it must be particularly galling for Krugman when his lack of accuracy is exposed by his own newspaper:
“There’s a problem: conservative politicians, clinging to an out-of-date ideology–and, perhaps, betting (wrongly) that their constituents are relatively well positioned to ride out the storm–are standing in the way of action. No, I’m not talking about Bob Corker, the Senator from Nissan–I mean Tennessee–and his fellow Republicans. . . . I am, instead, talking about Angela Merkel, the German chancellor, and her economic officials, who have become the biggest obstacles to a much-needed European rescue plan.”
– former Enron adviser Paul Krugman, New York Times, Dec. 15, 2008“Why is Europe falling short? Poor leadership is part of the story. European banking officials, who completely missed the depth of the crisis, still seem weirdly complacent. And to hear anything in America comparable to the know-nothing diatribes of Germany’s finance minister you have to listen to, well, Republicans.” – Paul Krugman, New York Times, March 16, 2009
“The European economy bounced back with unexpected strength in the second quarter, buoying hopes that a worldwide recession was drawing to a close. The sharp improvement from the first quarter underscored just how far Europe and indeed the global economy had come since a harrowing free fall in late 2008. Underlying the strong reading were solid performances in France and Germany, each of whose economies grew slightly in the second quarter, according to government data released Thursday.” – News story, New York Times, Aug. 14, 2009
For those of you who aren’t baseball fans, here’s how Wikipedia defines the Mendoza Line:
“The Mendoza Line is an informal term used in baseball for the threshold of incompetent hitting. Even though Mario Mendoza’s lifetime batting average is .215, the Mendoza Line is said to occur at .200, and when a position player’s batting average falls below that level, the player is said to be below the Mendoza Line. It is often thought of as the offensive threshold below which a player’s presence in the Major Leagues cannot be justified despite his defensive abilities.”
We would call Krugman the Mario Mendoza of columnists, but we don’t wish to offend Mendoza.

Turns out Minnesotans don’t particularly care for the guy they just elected as their senator. A mere 43% of Minnesota adults approve of his job performance, one of the lowest approval ratings ever among newly elected senators.

There must be something in water in the Land of Sky Blue Waters. Something that leads them to elect lunatics like Jesse Ventura and now Al Franken.
Turns out Minnesotans don’t particularly care for the guy they just elected as their senator. The honeymoon, if there was one, was mercifully short.
United States Senator Al Franken (we still have trouble typing those words) has one of the lowest approval ratings ever among newly elected senators. A mere 43% of Minnesota adults approve of his job performance.
Franken’s not just disliked, he’s disliked across the board. Pick a group in Minnesota and they probably dislike their new senator. He can’t muster a majority among any age demographic. Homeowners dislike him. Students dislike him. Homemakers dislike him.
As HotAir.com points out, “The lesson here is that Franken is an extraordinarily weak incumbent even before he’s cast enough votes to alienate his constituents. If the GOP can make 2014 a two-candidate race, Franken should be easy to beat.”
What were you thinking, Minnesota?
