Remember Obama’s vow not to raise taxes on anyone making less than $250,000 per year? Forget it.

Barack Obama promised the American people that he would never raise taxes on anyone making less than $250,000 per year and is now backing away from that promise faster than a French soldier from the front line.

The man who repeatedly promised the American people that he would never raise taxes on anyone making less than $250,000 per year is now backing away from that promise faster than a French soldier from the front line.

PolitiPage.com quotes White House Budget Director Peter Orszag as he revises Obama’s so-called vow:

This morning at a Manhattan breakfast sponsored by Thomson Reuters, White House Budget Director Peter Orszag threw that pledge out the window. Instead, he described Obama’s “read my lips, no new taxes” pledge as a “stance” and a “preference” that is subject to study by the president’s newly-formed bipartisan Commission on Fiscal Responsibility.

Ahhhh, yes. The Bipartisan Commission on Fiscal Responsbility. Or as it’s known around the Oval Office, the Bipartisan Creative Taxation Commission.

Eric Holder’s against Arizona’s anti-illegal alien law, but hasn’t actually taken the time to, you know, read it

It appears that the Attorney General is just plain so overloaded with work that he can’t get around to reading the laws he criticizes. You know, the laws he threatens to take to court to overturn.

If Attorney General Eric Holder is interested, IHateTheMedia.com will spring for the cost of a quick course in speed reading at Evelyn Woods Reading Dynamics.

It appears that the Attorney General is just plain so overloaded with work that he can’t get around to reading the laws he criticizes. You know, the laws he threatens to take to court to overturn.

Fox News has the details:

Despite repeatedly voicing concerns about Arizona’s new immigration enforcement law in recent weeks and threatening to challenge it, Attorney General Eric Holder said Thursday he has not yet read the law — which is only 10 pages long.

“I have not had a chance to — I’ve glanced at it,” Holder said at a House Judiciary Committee hearing when asked had he read the state law cracking down on illegal immigrants.

Holder told reporters last month that he fears the new law is subject to abuse and that the Justice Department and the Homeland Security Department are in the midst of conducting a review.

As we recall from our high school speed reading course, it’s not just speed that’s important, it’s comprehension. And Holder seems to have problem with both.

If you’d like to take the Evelyn Woods refresher course, Eric, send us an email. We’ll pay.

Eric Holder squirms when asked about “radical Islam”

Could Eric Holder be any more of a weasel? In testimony before the House Judiciary Committee about the Times Square bomber, Holder danced around for two minutes, performing astounding Clinton-like feats of verbal gymnastics and contortions in order to avoid answering the simple question “Could radical Islam be to blame.” A simple “yes” or “no” would have sufficed.

Words fail us. They’re also failing our attorney general.

Watch Eric “I -don’t-want-to-say-anything-negative-about-a-religion” Holder play deaf and dumb (“what?”) as he can’t bring himself to acknowledge the reason that jihadists (another forbidden word) do what they do.

Obviously this administration is more worried about Tea Parties and Arizona enforcing the federal government’s own laws against illegal aliens than about jihadists waging war on us.

America has already had more domestic jihadist attacks in 15 months under Obama than Bush had in the seven years after 9-11.

It’s awfully hard to fight an enemy you can’t name.

New SEIU president says those aren’t illegal aliens. They’re “new immigrants.”

In the hotly contested “Stupidest PoliticallyCorrect Phrase Imaginable”, new SEIU President Mary Kay Henry (who, judging from the video is no relation to the cosmetic queen Mary Kay) has added her little band aid to the bruised egos of the illegal alien population by rebranding them “New Immigrants”. Nothing illegal about that.

So which is the more ridiculous euphemism – “New Immigrant” used to describe illegal aliens or “Anti-choice” used to describe pro-life believers?

Or do you have your own favorite libtalk phrase?

Kagan’s friends swear she’s not a switch hitter

Ever since the Wall Street Journal ran an old photo of Kagan playing softball, her old friends have been leaping to her defense, swearing that she’s not a lesbian. (Who knew that enjoying softball was a sure indicator of homosexuality?).

The Wall Street Journal insists they were not implying that Elena Kagan is a switchhitter

We really don’t care about Elena Kagan’s sexual orientation. In fact, it’s a subject on which we’d prefer to remain blissfully ignorant. There mere thought of it puts shivers up our spines.

But ever since the Wall Street Journal ran an old photo of Kagan playing softball, her old friends have been leaping to her defense, swearing that she’s not a lesbian. (Who knew that enjoying softball was a sure indicator of homosexuality?).

Politico.com provides too much information:

“I’ve known her for most of her adult life and I know she’s straight,” said Sarah Walzer, Kagan’s roommate in law school and a close friend since then. “She dated men when we were in law school, we talked about men — who in our class was cute, who she would like to date, all of those things. She definitely dated when she was in D.C. after law school, when she was in Chicago – and she just didn’t find the right person.”…

Another friend, former New York Governor Eliot Spitzer, a member of Kagan’s social circle at Princeton University, wanted to make the same point as Walzer. “I did not go out with her, but other guys did,” he said in an email Tuesday night. “I don’t think it is my place to say more.”…

Walzer recalled “discussion about who she might be interested in – the usual girl talk stuff– talk about how to get his attention.”

Just as Freud said, “Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar,” we say that sometimes “sliding headfirst into home plate” is just a description of a play in softball and not a sexual euphemism.

Far as we’re concerned, being a lesbian shouldn’t disqualify Kagan from being on the Supreme Court. But being friends with a scumball like Eliot Spitzer for 30 years is another matter.

Holy moly. Government makes senior citizens choose between salvation and starvation

If you’re a senior citizen who’s fallen on hard times and you’ve been praying for a free meal, stop praying. You’re violating the constitutionally-guaranteed separation of church and hunger. (We’re not constitutional scholars like President Obama, so we’re not quite sure exactly where that prohibition is spelled out our founding document.)

"Dear Lord, let there be a change in government in 2012."

WSB-TV reports the story of political correctness run amok:

Preston Blackwelder proudly showed off a painting of his grandmother that had hung next to the front door of his Port Wentworth home.

She was the woman who led him to God, Blackwelder said Friday.

And with that firm religious footing, Blackwelder said it would be preposterous to stop praying before meals at Port Wentworth’s Ed Young Senior Citizens Center near Savannah because of a federal guideline.

“She would say pray anyway,” Blackwelder said of his grandmother. “She’d say don’t listen.”

But Senior Citizens Inc. officials said Friday the meals they are contracted by the city to provide to Ed Young visitors are mostly covered with federal money, which ushers in the burden of separating church and state.

On Thursday, the usual open prayer before meals at the center was traded in for a moment of silence.

The dilemma is being hashed out by the Port Wentworth city attorney, said Mayor Glenn “Pig” Jones.

Tim Rutherford, Senior Citizens Inc. vice president, said some of his staff recently visited the center and noticed people praying shortly before lunch was served. Rutherford said his company provides meals like baked chicken, steak tips and rice and salads at a cost of about $6 a plate. Seniors taking the meals pay 55 cents and federal money foots the rest of the bill, Rutherford said.

“We can’t scoff at their rules,” he said of federal authorities. “It’s a part of the operational guidelines.”

Just another example of those damn bitter clingers, stubbornly clinging to their religion and their appetites.

Congressman says women are pissed at lack of potty parity, won’t take it sitting down

Sure, the economy’s going to hell in the proverbial hand basket and oil is still spewing up from the floor of the Gulf of Mexico and Iran’s about to get nuclear weapons, but the Congress of the United States is spending its time on more important issues. Like potty parity in federal buildings.

Sure, the economy’s going to hell in the proverbial hand basket and oil is still spewing up from the floor of the Gulf of Mexico and Iran’s about to get nuclear weapons, but the Congress of the United States is spending its time on more important issues. Like potty parity in federal buildings.

Fox News has the details (and please note the remarkable pun in the opening sentence):

Men may still be left holding their peanuts at the ballpark while waiting for their dates in the ladies room, but a House panel on Wednesday was considering whether to rectify the disparity in wait times for the loo in federal buildings.

The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee held hearings Wednesday on the “Potty Parity Act,” a bill that seeks to address the unequal number of restroom facilities for women in federal buildings by requiring at least a 1-to-1 ratio for toilets, including urinals, in women’s and men’s restrooms.

Supporters of the bill say women forced to wait in long restroom lines are at risk of health issues, including abdominal pain, cystitis and other urinary tract infections.

“A lot of times people, when I dealt with this bill, called it ‘potty parity.’ They made jokes,” said Rep. Steve Cohen, D-Tenn., who proposed similar legislation as a state lawmaker that was enacted in the 1990s.

“The fact is, it’s not a joke. Not only is it not a joke to women, it’s not a joke to men who go with the women who have to wait while they’re standing in line,” he said. “It’s also politically very popular. It’s the right thing to do and it’s catching up with the cultural lag in our society.”

Far be it from us to criticize the House of Representatives and its noble work, but with all the other crises going on in the world, it seems to us that this is the ultimate example of congress getting a little behind in its work.

President Obama wants to save the planet, but not if it interferes with something more important.

Der Spiegel, the highly-respected German magazine, has gotten hold of recordings of some “private” conversations between world leaders. And it looks like Obama definitely wanted to change the world, but not if it required him to, you know, like inconvenience himself.

barack obama copenhagen
"We are here to save the...oh, hell, look at the time. I'd love to talk more, but I'm taking Michelle to dinner tonight."

Believe it or not, there’s new news from the Copenhagen Climate Climate Summit & Circle Jerk that took place last year.

But first, let’s review what the President said before the summit that was billed as “our last chance to save the world.”

Few challenges facing America – and the world – are more urgent than combating climate change. The science is beyond dispute and the facts are clear. Sea levels are rising. Coastlines are shrinking. We’ve seen record drought, spreading famine, and storms that are growing stronger with each passing hurricane season….

Once I take office, you can be sure that the United States will once again engage vigorously in the [climate] negotiations, and help lead the world toward a new era of global cooperation on climate change…

Delay is no longer an option. Denial is no longer an acceptable response. The stakes are too high. The consequences, too serious.

Now here’s the new news. Der Spiegel, the highly-respected German magazine, has gotten hold of recordings of some “private” conversations between world leaders. And it looks like Obama definitely wanted to change the world, but not if it required him to, you know, like inconvenience himself.

President Barack Obama at the Copenhagen summit, in leaders’ conversations “accidentally” recorded and now published in Der Spiegel:

In response to Sarkozy, Obama makes it clear that he is not prepared to stay beyond a few hours. “Nicolas, we are not staying until tomorrow. I’m just letting you know. Because all of us obviously have extraordinarily important other business to attend to.”

Who knew that hope and change meant “Hope I don’t have to change my flight.”

Parents pissed over Cinco de Mayo flag flap

Parents in Morgan Hill, California are pissed about the Cinco de Mayo flag flap. Plenty pissed. And they showed up at last night’s school board meeting to express their displeasure with the way things were handled.

Parents in Morgan Hill, California are pissed about the Cinco de Mayo flag flap. Plenty pissed. And they showed up at last night’s school board meeting to express their displeasure with the way things were handled.

KTVU reveals the rancorous details:

About 200 people packed the middle school auditorium where the meeting was held to accommodate the larger than normal number of people who attended to vent their feelings.

“Regardless where we came from when we come to this nation, we adopt its culture and what this nation stands for and the flag,” said Morgan Hill resident Lavonne Atnit. “I am personally getting very tired of disrespect to that flag and what this nation stands for.”

Morgan Hill’s Claudia Rossi offered some advice to the Latino student who walked out of school in protest the day following the incident.

“To those Latino kids that are here: you are not going to change the mind of one person that is being offensive to you,” said Rossi. “Educate yourself. That is the way to honor your flag wherever you come from.”

The boys who wore the patriotic colors — which some Latino students viewed as disrespectful — did not show up. However, some of their parents did.

“The students were not making a political statement. Their goal was to simply their pride in their country,” said parent Joy Jones. “As parents we are proud we have raised young men who stand up for what they believe in.”

We have two words on the whole incident: muy estúpido.

Would you pay $5 to spend a day with Bill Clinton? How about $771,000?

In a lame effort to repay Hilary’s campaign debt, Bill Clinton is offering the chance to spend a day of his valuable time with you for a mere $5 donation.

In a lame effort to repay Hilary’s campaign debt, Bill Clinton is offering the chance to spend a day of his valuable time with you for a mere $5 donation.

Maybe a better contest would be “How much would you pay NOT to spend a day with Bill Clinton?”

ABC News has the story:

The Hillary Clinton for President campaign is offering anyone who donates at least $5 over the course of the next week a chance to be selected to fly to New York and spend the day with Bill Clinton.

“Hillary’s campaign still has a few vestiges of debt that I know she would like to see paid in full. Will you reach out today to help Hillary this one last time?,” Bill Clinton asks his wife’s campaign supporters in an email appeal.

As of April 1, the Clinton presidential campaign had $623,740.13 in the bank according to the latest campaign finance reports filed with the Federal Election Commission. However, the committee also reported $771,000.00 remaining in debts and obligations.

The crack investigative team at IHateTheMedia.com has also uncovered a remaining debt on the FEC books for Bill Clinton as well – to the tune of $319,630.

But this begs the question, what happened to all the money Bill and Hillary got for their memoirs, speaking engagements and dubious “business contacts”? The Clintons 2008 tax returns indicated that they had made an astounding $109 Million over the prior eight years.

Guess it’s better to dump your debt on the backs of the working people than dip into your own fortune. That’s Ruling Class 101.

First place: One day with Bill Clinton. Second Place: One week with Bill Clinton. And we’re all basically losers, because this guy never seems to go away.

“Dear Mr. President, I need a freakin job. Period.”

Jeff Baker, the frustrated former owner of a small manufacturing company, and his brother put up the sign even before they knew that Obama was headed here.

We know the current unemployment rate is 9.9%. But unsubstantiated reports indicated that the freakin unemployment rate may be substantially higher.

In yet another “Do as I say, not as I do” moment, Michelle Obama presents herself as a valiant warrior against childhood obesity. But now Michelle Malkin reveals that the First Lady wasn’t quite such a warrior when she sat on the board of directors of a large snack food company.

Take it away, Ms Malkin:

While she crusades for organic foods and puts government pressure on corporations to stop marketing fast food and junk food to children, Mrs. Obama herself profited from the very same processed food industry she now demonizes.

In June 2005, a few months after her husband was elected to the U.S. Senate, Mrs. Obama hustled a seat on the corporate Board of Directors of TreeHouse Foods, Inc. Despite zero experience, the food-processing company put her on its audit and nominating and corporate governance committees. For her on-the-job training and the privilege of putting her name and face on their literature, the company forked over $45,000 in 2005 and $51,200 in 2006 to Mrs. Obama — as well as 7,500 TreeHouse stock options worth more than $72,000 for each year.

Mmmmmm, processed foods dipped in a thick, rich coat of hypocrisy. Sounds delicious.

We offer this advice as a public service to those noble pirates plying their trade off the Somali coast: Don’t screw with the Russians.

Cleveland.com reports the details:

Following high level complaints about “imperfections” in international law, Russia announced Tuesday that captured Somali pirates “have all died.” A Russian official claimed that 10 pirates seized by Russian special forces aboard an oil tanker last week were quickly freed but then died on their way back to the Somali coast.

The unidentified high-ranking Defense Ministry official did not elaborate on how the pirates died, deepening a mystery that has prompted speculation the pirates were executed by commandos who had freed a Russian oil tanker seized in waters 500 miles (800 kilometers) east of Somalia’s coast.

The official told Russian news agencies the pirates’ boat disappeared from Russian radar about an hour after their release.

“They could not reach the coast and, apparently, have all died,” the official said.

The Defense Ministry could not be reached despite repeated phone calls Tuesday to the press office and the cell phones of spokesmen.

Russian officials have said one of the 11 pirates was killed during a gunbattle when the Russian special forces stormed the tanker on Thursday. The others, some said to have been wounded, were brought aboard a Russian destroyer.

Officials initially said they would be taken to Russia for trial, but the Defense Ministry said Friday they’d been released because of “imperfections” in international law. The statement was met with skepticism, especially in light of a comment made by the Russian president.

“We’ll have to do what our forefathers did when they met the pirates” until the international community comes up with a legal way of prosecuting them, Dmitry Medvedev said on the day the ship was stormed.

That’s right. Despite Obama’s record of being the grim reaper of Democrat endorsers, the President has cut a new TV commercial that actually praises Specter for casting the deciding vote on ObamaCare.

These two were made for each other. But we doubt that either of them are made for the voters of Pennsylvania.

New Eyjafjallajökull disaster: Volcano erupts again, movie stars’ private jets can’t fly into Cannes

It looks like everyone has an opinion about the Live Oak High School students being sent home for displaying the American Flag. Even America’s most famous failed screenwriter. According to The Los Angeles Times Roger Ebert has weighed in on the matter and had this to say in a recent Twitter posting:

“Kids who wear American Flag T-shirts on 5 May should have to share a lunchroom table with those who wear a hammer and sickle on 4 July.”

We don’t know how long it has been since Mr. Ebert was in school but nowadays they tend to let out for national holidays like the Fourth of July. Especially when they fall in the middle of summer.

Of course, that sort of slavish devotion to reason might be a little much to expect from a little man who so vehemently opposes the “fascism” attributed to fictional character Dirty Harry, but lauds the real life variety embodied by Asst. Principal Miguel Rodriguez.

Rick Santelli is a joy to watch. Every once in a while, the CNBC on-air editor just can’t take the crap anymore. Tuesday was one of those days.

This time he went off on Rep. Paul Kanjorski’s (D-PA), who claimed Democrats’ just couldn’t include reform of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac in their financial regulation bill because it was “too complicated.”

“It’s too complicated?” Santelli roared. “You think taxpayers that go to work to pay the money you are subsidizing, it will end up a half a trillion, do you think they think complicated is an excuse?”

The Financial Times reports the dire reality of the situation:

Fannie Mae said on Monday it would need an additional $8.4bn in aid, as the US government-controlled mortgage finance company continued to suffer heavy losses on its bad loans…Fannie Mae’s appeal for help comes on the heels of a similar plea last week by smaller rival Freddie Mac, which asked for an additional $10.6bn cash infusion. The latest requests for aid bring the total amount of taxpayer dollars drawn down by these companies to $148bn since the 2008 government-led bail-out.

“Anthony Sanders, a senior scholar at the Mercatus Center at George Mason University, called Fannie and Freddie ‘our own Greek tragedy.’ Mr. Sanders estimated that total taxpayer liability was about $8,000bn for the combined companies, including public debt and loan guarantees.”

You know what else is really complicated? Doing your taxes. But the government probably won’t accept that as an excuse for not doing them.

Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) guested on Up Front with Mike Gousha this weekend. Here’s what he had to say about the Greek meltdown and the ongoing European financial crisis:

“I am enormously concerned. First of all, Greek contagion can spread to some of these other countries like you said. What this basically is… It is so ironic coming from the cradle of Western Civilization. What we are seeing is the failure of European socialism and social welfare states. What is basically happening here is this sovereign debt crisis could come over and spread to us. We’ve got to make sure we put in the right kind of fiscal controls, the right kind of balancing to prevent this from happening. Because what’s happening is the markets are questioning the viablility of sovereign debt. The markets are questioning whether or not governments are going to be able to live up to all the promises and debt that they have racked up… Sooner or later you run out of spending other people’s money with welfare states.”

Congratulations! You have something in common with Vice President Joe Biden. You both get to watch U.S. troops march in Red Square courtesy of YouTube.com.

The Los Angeles Times reports the story:

U.S. troops marched through Red Square for the first time in a Victory Day parade on Sunday as Russia celebrated the 65th anniversary of the end of World War II.

It was a scene cut from Russia’s Cold War nightmares: 71 Americans in dark blue dress uniforms carried the U.S. flag over the cobblestones, past the mausoleum of Vladimir Lenin and the towers of the Kremlin wall to salute Russian leaders.

The Guardian UK reports the disinvitation of Vice President Biden.

Vladimir Putin has snubbed both the Prince of Wales and the US vice-president, Joe Biden, by refusing to allow them to attend a parade in Red Square marking the 65th anniversary of the end of the second world war, the Guardian has learned.

Russia invited Gordon Brown and other heads of state to attend the Kremlin’s celebrations on Sunday – the biggest ever. But with the prime minister unable to attend because of the general election, the Foreign Office suggested Prince Charles instead.

What’s the reaction in the White House to the snub?

The White House is privately furious at the snub. Barack Obama told Russia’s president, Dmitry Medvedev, he was unable to attend but had confidently offered Biden as his replacement. Moscow’s diplomatic corps has been abuzz all week with news of Putin’s unexpected veto.

And Biden’s reaction?

“March in Red Square? Stupid Russians. That was two months ago.”
