Massive government intervention to save the economy is to blame for the lagging recovery, Former Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan said Tuesday.
Did you know that Alan Greenspan was, for many years, one of Ayn Rand’s closest associates? With that in mind, it should come as no surprise that the former Head of the Fed is no fan of The Stimulus.
"Stop the stimulus, start the economy," says Alan Greenspan
CNN Money reports Greenspan’s Randian response:
Massive government intervention to save the economy is to blame for the lagging recovery, Former Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan said Tuesday.
Greenspan argued for less government intervention to get the recovery rolling and businesses investing in equipment and plants.
“What we need to do now is to calm down; let things move by themselves,” he said at a forum at the Council of Foreign Relations. “And indeed the rate of activism has decreased significantly and the ratio of capital flow has inched back up.”
One of our contributors sent in this video clip just for laughs yesterday.
One of our contributors sent in this video clip just for laughs. It really hit home with the Editor so he showed it to Mrs. Editor knowing that it was 50-50 as to whether she’d whack him up the side of the head or laugh.
Luckily, she realizes she is the spawn of the devil her mother is a bit odd (edit demanded by Mrs. Editor) and laughed her rather attractive ass off.
For those of you who can relate to the Editor’s familial plight, enjoy.
And if anyone knows the source of this video – it looks like some sitcom – let us know so we can give the appropriate credit.
The Obama administration is exploring potential changes to gun laws that can be secured strictly through executive action.
Gun and ammo sales have skyrocketed since Barack Obama swore to uphold the Constitution of the United States of America except for that pesky Second Amendment.
What’s that? You didn’t hear him say anything about the Second Amendment during the Inauguration? Well, he might not have said those exact words, but it’s pretty damn clear that’s what he was thinking.
This Barack Obama action figure just confiscated an assault weapon from a G.I. Joe action figure
The Huffington Post, of all places, has the details:
Faced with a Congress hostile to even slight restrictions of Second Amendment rights, the Obama administration is exploring potential changes to gun laws that can be secured strictly through executive action, administration officials say.
The Department of Justice held the first in what is expected to be a series of meetings on Tuesday afternoon with a group of stakeholders in the ongoing gun-policy debates. Before the meeting, officials said part of the discussion was expected to center around the White House’s options for shaping policy on its own or through its adjoining agencies and departments — on issues ranging from beefing up background checks to encouraging better data-sharing.
Administration officials said talk of executive orders or agency action are among a host of options that President Barack Obama and his advisers are considering….
President Obama says he’s looking for some good give and take on this issue. Mostly take.
That damn Hugo Chavez is no fun. It’s bad enough that he’s come out against golf and whiskey, but now he’s pitting the forces of socialism against breast lifts and implants.
That damn Hugo Chavez is no fun. No fun at all. It’s bad enough that he’s come out against golf and whiskey, but now the Venezuelan strongman has gone too far. Now he’s pitting the forces of socialism against breast lifts and implants.
This photo has absolutely nothing to do with this story, yet it somehow seems appropriate
The New York Times has the details:
Blame for the boom in such surgeries here, Mr. Chávez said on state television over the weekend, rested with doctors who “convince some women that if they don’t have some big bosoms, they should feel bad.” He said it was a “monstrous thing” that poor women were seeking breast lifts when they had trouble making ends meet.
We’re certain that when Chavez said boob jobs were a monstrous thing he was referring to the size of the situation, not the size of the implants.
Mr. Chávez’s comments come at a time when Venezuela has emerged as one of the world’s leading markets for breast augmentation. Between 30,000 and 40,000 women here undergo the procedure each year, according to estimates by the Venezuelan Society of Plastic Surgeons.
… “I’ve never seen more silicone anywhere else,” Mireia Sallarès, a filmmaker from Spain who focuses on feminist issues and is working on a project about Venezuela, told the newspaper Tal Cual.
Then the Times concludes the story by reporting the following sentence without the slightest sense of irony.
State media outlets agreed with the president on the subject.
Really? The state media agreed with Venezuela’s President For Life? Well, then, that just about settles it, doesn’t it. Case closed. No story here. Move along.
Rio residents will be sorely disappointed to learn that President Obama, the god who walks among men, has cancelled his sermon in the square.
Rio residents will be sorely disappointed to learn that President Obama, the god who walks among men, has cancelled his sermon in the square.
AFP has the cancellation information:
It's a change of venue we can believe in
The speech in the historic plaza known as Cinelandia, in the heart of Rio de Janeiro, “is cancelled,” an embassy spokeswoman told AFP.
Obama instead will deliver remarks at Rio’s Municipal Theatre, the official said, without specifying whether it would be open to the public or exclusively for invited guests.
The Brazilian masses will be crushed – absolutely crushed – because President Obama is universally adored in Brazil. Oh, wait, this just in:
On Thursday, members of an advance US security team were seen inspecting the surroundings of Cinelandia, where anti-US banners could be seen hanging from a road-side fence.
Some social and union groups have declared Obama a “persona non grata” and called for a protest, accusing him of a “bellicose policy of occupation” in foreign countries, and of attacking people “in the name of the war on terror.”
Apparently some of Brazil’s citizens don’t have access to the internet and have’t heard about the 2008 election. They still think George Bush is still President.
That’s the only possible answer, because, you know, all foreigners love President Obama.
Possible Presidential contender Donald Trump likes to buy things. Lots of things. But one thing he’s not buying is the story of Barack Obama’s birth in a manger in Honolulu.

That Nancy Pelosi cracks us up. She’s one funny chick. There’s no one who can get a room laughing like she can. Especially if the room is the House of Representatives. For example:
“Democrats have long fought for fiscal responsibility as a top priority of this Congress. We won’t go into the history right now, but it is well known that President Clinton took us out of a period of deficit into his last five budgets being in surplus or in balance,” Democratic House Leader Nancy Pelosi said on the floor of the House on Tuesday.
Then Pelosi continued, “I just flew in and, boy, are my arms tired. I used to live in an apartment that was so small even the mice were hunchbacked. Take my husband, please. Thank you. Thank you very much. I’ll be here all week.”
On one hand, the guy gave a big speech in Cairo that was supposed to make the Muslim world love us, but it doesn’t. On the other hand, he didn’t say a word in Latin America and they do love us.
On one hand, the guy gave a big speech in Cairo that was supposed to make the Muslim world love us, but it doesn’t. On the other hand, he didn’t say a word in Latin America and they do love us.
The conclusion seems obvious: Shut the hell up, President Obama.
Of course, they love Obama in Latin America. They also love Che.
The Associated Press has details of Latin America’s supposed Obama obsession:
The White House is touting a changing attitude toward the United States in Latin America as it seeks to minimize anti-American sentiments in advance of President Barack Obama’s visit there later this week.
Deputy national security adviser Ben Rhodes said Wednesday that Obama is “hugely popular” in Latin America, and overall, the opinion of U.S. leadership there is on the rise. He said leaders in the region, like Venezuela’s Hugo Chavez, can no longer stoke anti-American sentiment to promote their agendas.
Eager to cast the U.S. and Latin American countries as strong partners, Rhodes said, “There’s no region in the world that we’re more deeply engaged in than the Americas.”
Obama will promote that theme personally during a five-day trip to Brazil, Chile and El Salvador.
Wonder what Obama’s approval rating is in Caracas these days.
This is a first. We never thought we’d see the day that MSNBC argued in favor of traditional Christianity.
Here’s a surprisingly hard-hitting interview courtesy of MSNBC.
Christian author and Pastor Rob Bell has written a book titled Love Wins: A Book about Heaven, Hell, and the Fate of Every Person Who Ever Lived. Bell sort of makes up his own brand of Christian theology and MSNBC’s Martin Bashir calls him on it.
“What you’ve done is you’re amending the Gospel — the Christian message — so that it’s palatable to contemporary people who find, for example, the idea of hell and heaven very difficult to stomach … That’s what you’ve done, isn’t it?” Bashir says.
This is a first. We never thought we’d see the day that MSNBC argued in favor of traditional Christianity.
The Department of Education pays about 1,500 teachers for time they spend on union activities — and pays other teachers to replace them in the classroom.
To paraphrase Rod Serling, “You’re traveling through another dimension, a dimension not only of sight and sound but of mind; a journey into a wondrous land whose boundaries are that of imagination. That’s the signpost up ahead – your next stop, the Teachers’ Union Zone!”
Take an apple to the union thug
The New York Post says things just don’t add up:
The Department of Education pays about 1,500 teachers for time they spend on union activities — and pays other teachers to replace them in the classroom.
It’s a sweetheart deal that costs taxpayers an extra $9 million a year to pay fill-ins for instructors who are sprung — at full pay — to carry out responsibilities for the United Federation of Teachers.
With Mayor Bloomberg calling for thousands of teacher layoffs to balance the 2012 budget, critics say it’s time to halt the extravagant benefit.
Why the hell does the Department of Education pay for union reps to do union business? Isn’t that an expense any reasonable person would say should be paid by the union?
Oh, wait. That’s the answer. The words reasonable and union should never be used in the same sentence.

Hillary Clinton promised that she would use Smart Power™ as Secretary of State. You know, instead of that Dumb Power the Bush administration apparently used.
Mediaite.com reveals how that’s working out in Egypt:
Hillary Clinton tells young Egyptian revolutionaries to talk to the hand
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton arrived in Cairo this morning, but she won’t be meeting with a coalition of six youth groups that emerged from Egypt’s revolution last month. In a blunt snub, members of the January 25 Revolution Youth Coalition said “based on (Clinton’s) negative position from the beginning of the revolution and the position of the US administration in the Middle East, we reject this invitation.”
ABC News reports a Clinton spokesperson had no immediate reaction to the snub, but a State Department official told the network a meeting had been planned for Tuesday, and Clinton still plans to meet with “members of civil society and transitional government officials” as she urges “Egyptians to continue on the path toward democracy.”
“Members of civil society.” Take that, uppity Egyptian youth groups. A stinging rebuke from Ms. Pants Suit Smart Power™.
Hard to believe that there’s a member of President Obama’s administration who’s less popular than Director of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano, but there is: Secretary of the Interior Ken “Oil Moratorium” Salazar.
Hard to believe that there’s a member of President Obama’s administration who’s less popular than Director of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano, but there is: Secretary of the Interior Ken “Oil Moratorium” Salazar.
And thumbs up to you, too, for a job well done, Kenny
Rasmussen has the unpopular particulars:
With gas prices soaring, the pressure’s on the Obama administration to increase the number of permits for deepwater oil drilling. Right now, just 16% of Likely U.S. Voters have a favorable opinion of the man who’ll grant those permits, Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar, with a scant one percent (1%) who regard him Very Favorably.
A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 27% view the former Colorado senator unfavorably, including 11% with a Very Unfavorable view of him. But like many of his fellow Cabinet members, Salazar is an unknown commodity to many voters: 57% don’t know enough about him to venture any kind of opinion.
The most surprising number in this survey is the fact that 1% of likely voters regards Salazar Very Favorably. We can only guess that the 1% is comprised of former Village People fans who appreciate the jaunty tilt of Salazar’s cowboy hat and/or Dr. Strangelove fans who are reminded of Slim Pickens playing Major T. J. “King” Kong.
One thing we know for sure is that the 1% can’t possibly be approve of his performance as Secretary of the Interior.
Nuclear fatalities in the last ten years: 7. Wind farm fatalities in the last ten years: 44. In those ten years nuclear provided thirty times the energy of wind.
Anyone who remembers Jane Fonda’s outstanding performance in China Syndrome knows that nuclear power is dangerous. Very, very dangerous. It’s a damn killer is what it is. In fact, the only thing more dangerous than a dose of radiation is a dose of perspective.
James Delingpole, an oasis in a desert of political correctnes
British columnist James Delingpole explains what we mean:
Nuclear fatalities in the last ten years: 7
Wind farm fatalities in the last ten years: 44.
In those ten years nuclear provided thirty times the energy of wind. This means in the last decade, nuclear has been around 200 times safer than wind on an energy produced/accidents basis.
Note: Wind farm statistics include neither birds killed by turning blades nor eco-wackos killed by the turn of events.
This is the story of Australian student Casey Heynes, a bullying victim who finally decided to do something about it.
President Obama is so concerned about bullying that he filmed a video in which he admitted that he was the target of bullies back when he was a scrawny, jug-eared, half-black kid who might as well have posted a sign on his back that said “Kick me.”
But we’re off track. This is the story of Australian student Casey Heynes, a bullying victim who finally decided to do something about it.
The other kids laughed as they taped a much smaller bully repeatedly taunting and hitting Casey. The victim finally snapped, picked up the pint-sized bully and smashed him onto the sidewalk. The bully struggled to his feet and staggered away while Casey became an internet sensation.
President Obama, you might want to remember the example of Casey Heynes the next time Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Hugo Chavez gang up to give you a wedgie.
Oil prices went up only 7 percent during the first 26 months of the Bush presidency, but have gone up 67 percent during the first 26 months of the Obama presidency.
Back in January 2009 we had finally tossed those evil oil stooges out of the White House and life was good again. Never again would we have to worry about prices being driven up by collusion between our nation’s leaders and the dastardly oil companies.
So just ignore the fact that oil prices went up only 7 percent during the first 26 months of the Bush presidency, but have gone up 67 percent during the first 26 months of the Obama presidency.
To paraphrase Bill Clinton, “I feel your pain at the pump.
Remember when MoveOn.org mattered? Back when a word from the organization would inspire thousands to take to the streets. Looks like those days are gone forever
Remember when MoveOn.org mattered? Back when a word from the organization would inspire thousands to take to the streets. Looks like those days are gone forever. And in the words of the Simpson’s Nelson Muntz, “Ha-ha.”
Take off your shoes. Count the MoveOn.org protesters on your fingers and toes.
The Daily Caller has the sad, sad details:
Democrat Eleanor Holmes Norton, the District of Columbia’s congressional delegate, failed to show up at a MoveOn.org rally on Tuesday afternoon as the left-wing organization attempted to stage a protest at the Social Security Administration headquarters in Washington, D.C. Organizers at the event, who would not provide their names to The Daily Caller upon request, said Holmes Norton was stuck speaking on the House floor. Holmes Norton does not have a vote in the House, only an opportunity to make recommendations.
Holmes Norton wasn’t the only person missing at MoveOn.org’s DC rally. The crowds of people MoveOn.org claims to have as followers didn’t make it out either. Maybe 30 people showed up — and that’s a generous estimate.
The event was part of MoveOn.org’s attempt to “Reclaim the American Dream,” or stop Republicans from balancing the budget. “Republicans in Congress are holding the middle class hostage — proposing a federal budget that would would [sic] cut 700,000 to 1 million jobs from our communities and slash funding to support preschool and college students, pregnant women, unemployed workers, and much more,” the leftwing organization funded by billionaire George Soros says on its website.
MoveOn.org used to fill the streets. Now they’d have trouble filling a phone booth. If they could find a phone booth, that is.
Surgically enhanced Israeli model Orit Fox got more than she bargained for when the massive boa constrictor bit into her breast.
We wish we could report that no animals were harmed during the making of this film, but, unfortunately, that would not be the case.
To summarize briefly: Snake bites model, snake dies of silicone poisoning.
The Daily Mail UK has the details of the snake’s demise:
… surgically enhanced Israeli model Orit Fox got more than she bargained for when the massive boa constrictor took objection to her over familiarity and reacted by biting into her breast.
However, it was the snake who came off worse because, while Ms Fox need a tetanus shot in hospital, the reptile later died from silicone poisoning.
The B-list model and actress initially looked comfortable during the shoot in Tel Aviv, wrapping the huge snake around her legs, waist and neck while doing her best to look sexy.
In a figure hugging red and white striped dress, which revealed maximum cleavage, she gamely tried to take their bonding to the next level by licking the snake’s face.
As she maneuvered the animal into position for the ‘kiss’ Ms Fox loosened her grip on its neck, and after being licked the reptile reacted angrily.
It aimed straight for Fox’s prized assets and sunk its teeth deep into her left breast.
She let out a high-pitched scream, as did a voice off camera who appeared to be directing the shoot.
This is the kind of story that cries out for the kind of in-depth analysis for which IHateTheMedia.com has become famous. So here goes:
Do not attempt to translate the stage hand’s black T-shirt. It might lead you to believe that Orit Fox is a model in the same sense that Pam Anderson is a model.

And we quote from the diminutive Congressman’s website:
“Despite efforts to improve relations between our nation and the Muslim and Arab world, America has stumbled. Two wars have been waged in the Middle East, further degrading our image among the world’s Muslim and Arab people.
“A Congressional hearing to investigate our friends and neighbors jeopardizes the fragile progress we have made and creates a longer gap for peace to bridge.
“This hearing insinuates that violence and the Muslim religion go hand in hand. Nothing could be further from the truth. Islam is a religion based upon peace, goodwill and the ethical treatment of all people on this planet.”
Islam is a religion based upon peace, goodwill and the ethical treatment of all people on this planet?
A dozen Cape Cod families say a new hi-tech wind turbine in their neighborhood makes too much noise and makes them physically ill, so they’ve hired an attorney to do something about it.
A dozen Cape Cod families say a new hi-tech wind turbine in their neighborhood makes too much noise and makes them physically ill, so they’ve hired an attorney to do something about it. Wind One in Falmouth, Massachusetts generates more controversy than power
WGBH.com has the story:
Standing on his home’s porch, Neil Anderson points through the thicket of trees in his front yard and across Blacksmith Shop Road towards one of his closest neighbors: A wind turbine.
“Right now we are 1,320 feet, which is one-quarter mile south of Wind One, which is Falmouth’s first wind turbine. It’s been online since April. And we’ve been trying to get it stopped since April,” Anderson says.
Wind One, as the turbine is officially called, is owned by the town of Falmouth and is located at the town’s wastewater treatment plant, where it stands 262 feet tall to the turbine’s hub. That’s about 10 feet taller than the Pilgrim Monument in Provincetown. The blades extend just shy of 400 feet, which is about half the height of the John Hancock Building in Boston.
Oddly enough, the guy doing the complaining is a greenie. Anderson owns a passive solar company on Cape Cod.
The energy conservationist in Anderson considered wind power a good principle. He wasn’t alone — before the turbine switched on, Falmouth residents almost universally welcomed Wind One as a symbol of renewable energy and a way to keep taxes down.
“I was proud looking at it from this viewpoint — until it started turning,” Anderson said.
… “It is dangerous. Headaches. Loss of sleep. And the ringing in my ears never goes away. I could look at it all day, and it does not bother me. It’s quite majestic — but it’s way too close,” Anderson said.
The power of wind, apparently, is dwarfed by the power of hypocrisy.
Know who bugs the hell out of us? Dick “Buy My Book and Go To My Website” Morris. He’s not really a conservative, just an opportunist. He’s not really a pundit, he’s a shill.
Know who bugs the hell out of us? Dick “Buy My Book and Go To My Website” Morris.
He’s not really a conservative, just an opportunist. He’s not really a pundit, he’s a shill. No matter where he appears, the little weasel spends more time pumping his books and website than actually discussing the issues of the day. It’s like watching an infomercial. He does everything but say, “But wait! There’s more! Order in the next ten minutes and you’ll receive a second copy of my book absolutely free!”
Take this clip, for example. When radio host Peter Schiff tries to steer Morris into an in-depth conversation and away from blatant pumping of his new book, Morris reacts by hanging up.
And, sadly, he did it before he had a chance to say, “Go to my website, DickMorris.com.”
(Starting at about the 1:20 mark)
Schiff: How about not have student loans at all? That would be a lot better. Morris: No. Because I think it’s appropriate for people to go to college and to be able to borrow their way there and… Schiff: But, but, Dick, they could go to college a lot cheaper if there weren’t student loans. My father went to college here in Connecticut, the University of Connecticut. His parents had no money. He waited tables and was able to pay his tuition. Morris: Peter, I’d like to talk about my book, which is Revolt, How To Defeat Obama and Repeal His Socialist Agenda. ‘Cause that’s really what I’m focused on. Schiff: Right. But I think part of that socialist agenda is this perpetuating this educational bureaucracy through the use of student loans that jack up the cost of college and enslaves our kids into a lifetime of debt just to prop up an educational bureaucracy. So I think if you really want to defeat some of these socialist policies you might start with education. Morris: You know what, Peter. You talk to yourself for the next fifteen minutes. That seems to be what you want to do. Bye-bye.
Does NPR lean to the left? Let’s answer that question with another question: Was Jimmy Carter a lousy President?
Does NPR lean to the left? Let’s answer that question with another question: Was Jimmy Carter a lousy President?
A new analysis of campaign finance documents shows that NPR’s board members have overwhelmingly supported Democrat candidates and other left wing groups. Unsurprising, perhaps, but interesting to see the actual numbers.
US News reveals the specifics:
Since 2004, members of the boards of NPR and the NPR Foundation, the public broadcaster’s fundraising arm, have contributed nearly $2.2 million to federal candidates, parties, and PACs, of which $1.95 million, or 89 percent, has gone to Democratic candidates and liberal-leaning political action committees.
Officers and trustees of the NPR Foundation, which has no control over the organization’s programming, have given substantially to national political campaigns in recent years. According to data from the Center for Responsive Politics, this group’s members (as listed on NPR’s most recent available annual report, from fiscal year 2008) have given almost $2.1 million to political campaigns in the last eight years. Fully 89 percent of this giving was to Democrats and progressive organizations. These figures include all federal contributions since the 2004 election cycle, the first in which “soft money” contributions were banned. “Soft money” refers to money given to a party for non-campaign activities, which until being banned in 2002 were unlimited and largely unregulated.
There’s a reason, apparently, that all those NPR stations are located on the left side of the dial.
While the Tea Party confronts vital Constitutional issues like the size and scope of government, its left wing doppelganger wannabe, the Coffee Party, is more interested in horny teenagers.
While the Tea Party confronts vital Constitutional issues like the size and scope of government, its left wing doppelganger wannabe, the Coffee Party, is more interested in horny teenagers.
The group’s first attempt at video outreach shows students supposedly speaking out against what the left wing group calls an “ideological attack on Planned Parenthood.”
They do it by having dozens of teenagers proudly announce “I have sex.” And, in keeping with the classy liberal thought we all know so well, the very first teen utters an obscenity.
We’d suggest decaffeinated at the next Coffee Party meeting.
750 neighborhoods in France, controlled by Muslim immigrants, are now considered too dangerous for the police to enter.
Sacre bleu! Thanks to those who worship at the altar of multiculturalism, France now has 750 neighborhoods that police, firemen and ambulances refuse to enter unless they have absolutely no other option.
Those neighborhoods, controlled by Muslim immigrants, are now considered too dangerous for the police.
Sounds suspiciously like our southern border, doesn’t it?
Geoffrey Eaton, Charlie Rangel’s Deputy Chief of Staff, was dining at Chez Lucienne in Harlem when he freaked out when he couldn’t find his umbrella.
Geoffrey Eaton, Charlie Rangel’s Deputy Chief of Staff, was dining at Chez Lucienne in Harlem Thursday night when a rainstorm hit. He freaked out when he couldn’t find his umbrella and was eventually escorted out by the police.
Geoffrey Eaton wants his umbrella, damn it. He knows you have his umbrella and he wants it back.
The New York Post has the inebriation information:
“He yelled at everyone, even the customers,” said the manager on duty, who asked not to be named. “We said, ‘We’ll give you another umbrella.’ Other people offered . . . we said, ‘If that’s not enough, we’ll pay for your cab home.’ Because I know him, I let him stay for a while. I talked to him nicely, as I do with all of my customers. We tried to calm him down. I have never seen him that way. Maybe something went a little wrong.”
BET.com contributor Bevy Smith, who was dining separately at the bistro, told us, “He cursed out the entire waitstaff, and everyone was trying to appease him. He was like, ‘Bleep that, I want a bleeping umbrella, why the bleep can’t you find it?’ ”
“I said, ‘Shhhh.’ He yells at me, ‘Bleep you, and mind your own bleeping business . . . you’re a disgrace to our race.’ ”
After 15 minutes of Eaton’s ranting and raving, the manager called cops to escort him out. A source told us employees later found his umbrella in a corner. Eaton was not arrested and left in a huff.
Smith, a former fashion director for Vibe and Rolling Stone, said, “I was appalled that someone who is a president at the NAACP and works with Charlie Rangel could behave like that in a public place and towards women. He was clearly intoxicated.”
He wasn’t intoxicated, Bevy. He was drunk with power.
