While falsely accusing Limbaugh and Hannity of using these fake calls, Schultz confessed that he has used fake callers and said the fakes were actually Democratic Party staffers.
The lunatic left is at it again. They’ve taken a fact, twisted it beyond recognition, and convinced themselves that it’s something it isn’t.
The background: Premiere Radio Networks said it offers paid actors for call-ins to radio hosts. They explained later that the service is designed for FM entertainment shows, not AM talk shows, but libs had already jumped to the conclusion that Premier-syndicated talk shows like Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity must be using those paid actors.
Enter poor, dumb Ed Schultz.
While falsely accusing Limbaugh and Hannity of using these fake calls, Schultz confessed that he has used fake callers and said the fakes were actually Democratic Party staffers calling in from their congressional offices.
In Schultz’ case we need to revise an old saying:
This is a case of the pot belly calling the kettle black.
Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio has created a whole bunch of jobs by raiding Phoenix restaurants and arresting dozens of illegal aliens for identity theft crimes.
We doubt that President Obama has saved or created any jobs for Americans, but we know for a fact that Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio has. Fact is, he created a whole bunch of ’em by raiding Phoenix restaurants and arresting dozens of illegal aliens for identity theft crimes.
Voila! Jobs for Americans.
Ahhh, but what about the old canard that illegal aliens do jobs that Americans won’t do? “Crap,” said one woman with a Masters degree who was willing to take one of the $8 per hour jobs being offered at Phoenix’ Pei Wei Chinese restaurant.
Liberals, as always, contradict themselves when it comes to jobs and illegal aliens. On one hand they say, “There are no jobs.” On the other hand they say, “Illegal aliens do the jobs that Americans won’t do.”
Which is it? Choose one. Because you can’t have it both ways.
Things aren’t going well for Democrats and the nanny state these days. Not well at all. The juxtaposition of these two stories demonstrates exactly what we mean.
Things aren’t going well for Democrats and the nanny state these days. Not well at all. The juxtaposition of these two stories demonstrates exactly what we mean.
At 8:00 a.m. Tuesday morning, this story broke at TheHill.com:
The only solution is for the Congressional cafeteria to buy expensive bone china. They'll get the china, but the taxpayers will get the bone
Democrats complain Styrofoam cups in the House cafeteria could contain carcinogens.
In a letter to Speaker John Boehner (Ohio) and other Republican leaders, the nine Democrats say the Styrofoam cups and other dining materials could hold chemical components that could cause cancer. The Democrats are upset with the switch to Styrofoam from recyclable materials put into place when Democrats ran the House.
The letter asks Boehner to reconsider the switch away from recyclable to polystyrene-based foam containers, and warns that the health of visitors to the Capitol could be compromised.
Two hours later, this story broke in the Telegraph UK:
Recycled Paper Causes Cancer?
Breakfast cereal manufacturers are to stop using recycled cardboard in packaging after a study indicated that current boxes could pose a cancer risk.
Jordans — whose brands include Country Crisp and Crunchy Oats — has already stopped using recycled cardboard, while Kellogg’s and Weetabix say they are taking steps to reduce the risk to human health.
The alert was sparked when researchers in Switzerland found that mineral oils in printing ink from recycled newspapers used in cardboard can get into foods — even passing through protective inner plastic bags.
Only one conclusion can be reached:
Democrats want to kill people and they must be stopped because that is the exclusive purview of Republicans.
Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard’s iPod gift to Obama was filled with an assortment of Aussie music, including some anti-American songs from Midnight Oil.
Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard visited the White House on Wednesday and gave President Obama an iPod. Imagine the joy on the manchild’s face when he saw the iPod, assumed he was being re-gifted the same iPod he gave Queen Elizabeth and got excited about the thought of being able to listen to his own speeches again.
No such luck. Gillard’s iPod was filled with an assortment of Aussie music, including some anti-American songs from Midnight Oil.
The Sydney Morning Herald explains:
As the lead singer with politically edged Aussie rock band Midnight Oil, Peter Garrett railed against “US forces”.
Now the Oils – whose singer is a minister in the federal Labor government – feature on US President Barack Obama’s iPod.
The music player, chock-full of Australian pop and rock music, was a gift to the American leader from Julia Gillard on her first visit to Washington as Prime Minister.
While US forces doesn’t feature on the iPod, the Oils songs include King of the Mountain, Blue Sky Mine, Beds are Burning and Short Memory – a lament of the superpower’s interference in nations such as El Salvador, Cambodia and Afghanistan.
Unfortunately, the most Aussie of all Aussie rock songs, Men At Work’s Land Down Under, was not included. So we’ll do what Julia Gillard didn’t do and offer it here.
Hell of a lot better than an Obama speech.
And, c’mon, Julia, what about the very first international hit by an Aussie artist, Rolf Harris’ Tie Me Kangaroo Down, Sport?
Ain’t capitalism great? One minute you have a clever idea, the next minute you’re selling T-shirts. Oh, wait. “Capitalism: A Love Story” was the name of a Michael Moore movie.
Ain’t capitalism great? One minute you have a clever idea, the next minute you’re selling T-shirts.
Oh, wait. “Capitalism: A Love Story” was the name of a Michael Moore movie, wasn’t it? Yeah, now that we think about it, that makes it feel somehow inappropriate for that headline to accompany this photo of this T-shirt.
Can you hold on a minute while we come up with a new headline?
In the meantime, if you know who created this shirt, please let us know. We’d love to provide a link to the site and help the guy sell a few of these beauties.
Jake Tapper, Cokie Roberts and George Will get together on ABC’s This Week to discuss last week’s revelations about NPR’s leftwing bias.
Jake Tapper, Cokie Roberts and George Will get together on ABC’s This Week to discuss last week’s revelations about NPR’s leftwing bias. Needless to say, Roberts and Will didn’t see eye to eye.
Tapper: Cokie, you’ve been at NPR for almost 40 years. Obviously this institution means a lot to you, but why should we care?
Roberts: Look, I should just say that they did then reject that money, and sent internal e-mails basically saying this is totally unacceptable. We have to have tax forms, all of that. So, that should be stated. But, look, we should care because 34 million people listen every week and want to get the news that you get there, that you can’t get any place else. NPR’s got seventeen foreign bureaus. That’s something you can’t say for any other broadcast organization these days. And brings you terrific information, day in and day out, week in and week out. And the reporters who are there on the line, being shot at in North Africa at the moment are being very badly served by the management that’s now gone.
Cokie, honey, the reason they have more foreign bureaus than any other network is because the American taxpayers give them $450,000,000 per year.
Tapper: George, very quickly.
Will: We learned this week redundantly that NPR is run by people who don’t like people like me. Which is fine. The problem is there are 14,000 radio stations in this country. The government shouldn’t be subsidizing neither entertainment, certainly not journalism. In fact, this is a solution in search of a problem.
Roberts: Well, there are not 14,000 radio stations in rural areas, which is where most of the federal funding goes. Most of those stations are the ones that, NPR gets hardly any money from the federal government, and the big stations get hardly any money. But the little, tiny, rural stations that, where there’s nothing else on the air, get a lot of money and they would go dark.
So we’re spending $450 million per year to subsidize NPR so that “little, tiny, rural stations” can broadcast to areas where virtually no one lives?
Take a few minutes, Cokie. We’re pretty sure you can come up with a better argument than that.
The Congressional Budget Office – you know, the guys the Democrats said were unimpeachable sources during the ObamaCare debate – now says the Dems’ proposal doesn’t quite add up.
Remember last week when the Democrats touted the fact that they were proposing a miniscule $6.5 billion in budget cuts? To hear them tell it, they were going after the budget with a chain saw, hacking away at spending like there was no tomorrow.
The CBO has wiped the smiles off Democrat faces
Surprise, surprise. The Congressional Budget Office – you know, the guys the Democrats said were unimpeachable sources during the ObamaCare debate – now says the Dems’ proposal doesn’t quite add up.
ABC’s Jake Tapper checks in with the specifics:
After last week’s meeting on Capitol Hill among congressional leaders and Vice President Biden, Senate Democrats wrote legislation and gave it to CBO to be analyzed.
CBO put the cuts at $4.7 billion.
Well, c’mon now. $4.7 billion with a b is nothing to sneeze at. And that doesn’t even include the Cowboy Poetry Festival.
The leftwing blogosphere is atwitter about the fact that those bastards at Fox News lied by trying to pass off a violent protest in California as a violent protest in Madison, Wisconsin.
The leftwing blogosphere is atwitter about the fact that those bastards at Fox News lied by trying to pass off a violent protest in California as a violent protest in Madison, Wisconsin. IHateTheMedia.com even picked up a new troll who made repeated references to “the Fox News palm tree lie.”
Here’s the video clip that started the whole brouhaha:
And here’s the description that accompanied that clip at YouTube:
Fox News is at it again! Here’s a clip form tonights O’Rielly show with reporter Mike Tobin. They are still lying and deceiving people! You’ve gotta see this. They spliced in a clip from some place else to make it seem as though there was a rowdy crowd in Madison Wisconsin. Look closely for the palm trees in the background (I have yet to see a palm tree in Madison). UNBELIEVABLE!! FOX NEWS LIES AGAIN!
So did Fox lie? Based on that clip, it sure look like it. Ahhh, but not so fast. Mediaite took a look at the whole story and reached a different conclusion.
While, in the 43-second clip that’s being linked to on YouTube, it does look like Fox News lied, but watching the entire segment for context makes it clear that they did not.
The segment in question occurred during The O’Reilly Factor as Bill O’Reilly was discussing the anger in the union protests. At the top of the piece, he rolled footage of a number of the “union thug” videos that have become so popular on Right Wing news sites in the past few weeks. O’Reilly clearly identified the videos as collectively coming from “all over the country.” … this B-roll footage was replayed again during the rest of the segment, including during an interview with Mike Tobin, Fox News’ reporter who’s been on the ground in Wisconsin.
Here’s the unedited video:
Obviously, someone’s lying here. But it doesn’t appear to be Fox News.
Here’s the MSNBC host talking about abortion mill operator Dr. George Tiller. Rachel Maddow reveals the truth about the doctor when she accidentally calls him “Dr. Killer.”
What would Sigmund Freud have to say about this, Rachel?
Here’s the MSNBC host talking about abortion mill operator Dr. George Tiller. Rachel Maddow reveals the truth about the doctor when she accidentally calls him “Dr. Killer.”
There’s no mistaking it. No other interpretation possible. It’s clear as a bell.
She calls the abortionist “Dr. Killer.”
Consider this confirmation of the old saying that even a blind sow occasionally finds an acorn.
In an administration that’s already exceeded its quota of boobs and dunces, Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar stands out as for his complete ineptitude.
In an administration that’s already exceeded its quota of boobs and dunces, Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar stands out as for his complete ineptitude. His explanation of why the Obama administration opposes drilling for oil in the Arctic not only defies logic, but very nearly defies comprehension.
CNSNews.com has the story of Salazar’s shortsightedness:
CNSNews.com asked Salazar, “Given the rising cost of gasoline why is the administration opposed to drilling in the arctic refuge?”
“We don’t believe that you need to drill everywhere and we don’t believe that the ‘drill, baby, drill’ program is the way that’s going to get us to the energy independence that we need for America or that will power our economy and that’s why the President has been so clear from day one and we in the Department of Interior have been so clear that what we need to do is need to have a robust energy program that includes a number of different sources of energy and while yes, we are pushing forward with oil and gas development both offshore and onshore which was the subject of much of the hearing today, we’re also moving forward with renewable energy,” he told CNSNews.com after testifying before the House Natural Resources Committee about his Department’s FY2012 budget.
Windmills. Solar power. Fairydust. The more unproven, the better. The more workable, the better. The more government subsidies required, the better.
According to the Inspector General, Penn State is guilty of a whitewash of an investigation into Climategate and one of the scandal’s central figures, Michael Mann.
When it comes to independent inquiries, a federal Inspector General thinks that Penn State has an interesting take on the concept. “Independent” appears to mean totally not independent and “inquiry” seems to mean a way to avoid any type of investigation.
These Penn State girls are not - repeat, not - cheering for Michael Mann
According to that Inspector General, Penn State is guilty of a whitewash (or, in keeping with the school’s colors, a blue and white wash) of an investigation into Climategate and one of the scandal’s central figures, Michael Mann.
Penn State is being thrown to the Nittany Lions on a couple of things for its “independent” inquiry. Specifically, the school never interviewed a key witness who could corroborate – or not – the fact that Mann hid data that might disprove global warming theories. They also never asked whether Mann deleted or asked anyone else to delete the data.
While the official report on the inquiries hasn’t been released, early indications are that the school’s Happy Valley nickname may need to be revised.
“We’re on the wrong track.” Those are words politicians like to say before they’re elected, not words they like to hear after they’re elected. In the case of President Obama, though, those words are becoming a constant refrain.

Aren't you surprised that only 64% of the American people think we're on the wrong track?
Reuters has the details of the latest Fascist poll to lie about our Exalted Leader:
Americans’ confidence in the way the country is going has slumped to a two-year low in the last month, and one pollster blamed soaring gas prices.
A Reuters/Ipsos poll showed on Wednesday the proportion of people who believe the United States is on the wrong track rose seven points to 64 percent from February, in a fresh challenge to President Barack Obama.
It was the highest number of people in an Ipsos poll who think the country on the wrong track since Obama took office in January 2009. The survey comes as many indicators show an improving U.S. economy.
64% of the American people agree that we’re on the wrong track?
Praise be to President Obama. He said he would unify Americans and he has delivered on his promise.
It’s not like any more evidence was really necessary, but just in case you still had even the slightest lingering doubt that MSNBC’s Chris Matthews is completely insane, please watch the following video clip.
It’s not like any more evidence was really necessary, but just in case you still had even the slightest lingering doubt that MSNBC’s Chris Matthews is completely insane, please watch the following video clip.
According to Matthews, pointing your finger is some kind of secret Christian gesture.
Perhaps the only thing worse than Matthews’ bizarre claim is that fact that neither of his guests responded by saying, “You’re completely bat shit crazy, Chris.”
We have another gesture for you to interpret, Chris. It also involves one finger, but it’s definitely not Christian.
One person probably found James O’Keefe’s NPR sting video even more remarkable than everyone else – former NPR political analyst Juan Williams.
One person probably found James O’Keefe’s NPR sting video even more remarkable than everyone else – former NPR political analyst Juan Williams.
The video shows NPR senior executive Ron Schiller denigrating everyone who’s anyone – the Tea Party, Jews and even Williams. Williams, who was unfairly fired (even according to disgraced NPR President Vivian Schiller), offered up this opinion.
“I think it is a look inside what NPR executives really think and for me this is a revelation in the sense that here they are saying exactly how they view the world,” Williams commented. “And what’s incredible to me is here they are doing business with people who identify themselves of the Muslim Brotherhood.”
Fine, Juan. Go ahead and pick on NPR all you want, but at least they won’t do business with those Tea Party guys. Because unlike the Muslim Brotherhood, they’re racists.
In honor of the Nevada Democrat and the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering, we want you to put on your ten-gallon thinking caps and write a Harry Reid Cowboy Limerick.
UPDATE: AND THE WINNER IS…
Congratulations to Mic Tienken for this winning entry:
There once was a cowboy named Reid
Who’s nanny state filled every need
Till they ran out of money
And it wasn’t too funny
When he found out that rocks just don’t bleed
Our odds of surviving this fiscal crisis are lower than a snake’s belly in a wagon rut (nice western imagery, huh?), but Harry Reid can’t find a single thing to cut from the federal budget. Not even funding for a cowboy poetry festival in Elko, Nevada.
When a representative of the Southern Poverty Law Center displayed a chart that listed black separatists as one of the leading hate groups in America, the MSNBC host chose to ignore it.
This is hilarious. MSNBC’s Cenk Uygur had a Sgt Schultz moment on his Monday show.
When a representative of the Southern Poverty Law Center – a group that’s never been accused of being conservative – displayed a chart that listed black separatists as one of the leading hate groups in America, the MSNBC host chose to ignore it. Just plain acted as if he didn’t see what was right there in front of him. It didn’t fit the leftist template, so as far as Uygur was concerned, it didn’t exist. Said it didn’t make sense, so he skipped right over it.
Rather than subject yourself to more MSNBC than necessary, skip ahead to the 1:30 mark.
Wyoming just did away with the concept of gun control and passed a constitutional amendment allowing its citizens to carry weapons. No permits required. No license necessary.
Would the last liberal leaving Wyoming please close the door? The land of Dick Cheney just did away with the concept of gun control and passed a constitutional amendment allowing its citizens to carry weapons. No permits required. No license necessary.
We predict that crime rates are about to fall in Wyoming
The New American reports the worst news liberals have heard this week:
An important step was taken yesterday in Wyoming toward restoring the constitutionally protected right of Americans to keep and bear arms, as that state became the second in less than a year to enact legislation affirming the right of its citizens to carry a concealed firearm without a special government-issued license.
Following adoption in the state Senate, the vote of the House in the Wyoming legislature approved the bill by a vote of 48–8 several weeks ago, and Gov. Matt Mead signed it into law on March 3.
The right to carry a concealed firearm without a special license issued by the state is often referred to as “constitutional carry.”
Worst damn news liberals have heard all week. Or as we like to call it, best damn news we’ve heard all week.
Reuters reports the image-gurus at Panasonic Corp have come up with a camera that will make your face smaller, eyes bigger and even apply makeup.
Future shock is here. Technology is changing at an ever-increasing pace and it’s now impossible to get used to the last new technology before it’s replaced by an even newer new technology.

Consider this story from Time:
Reuters reports the image-gurus at Panasonic Corp have come up with a camera that will make your face smaller, eyes bigger and even apply makeup.
The tech-giant hopes to cash in on the explosion of social networking worldwide with their latest invention, catering to the social-network savvy and blog connected who also want to look good.
The Lumix FX77, which went on sale in Japan last week, will also get rid of the usual pesky beauty problems people face: brightening yellow teeth, clearing up spotty skin and removing dark circles.
It will even add blush and eye shadow to the image, because everyone knows the secret to beauty is more make-up.
Yeah, the Lumix FX77 might be able to correct the flaws on the outside, but we’re waiting for the technology that can correct the flaws on the inside.
In this clip, the Republican Governor makes it clear that Democrat leader Mark Miller’s offer to stage negotiations at the Wisconsin-Illinois state border is, perhaps, the dumbest idea of the year.
Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker does not sound like a man who’s about back down.
In this clip, the Republican Governor makes it clear that Democrat leader Mark Miller’s offer to stage negotiations at the Wisconsin-Illinois state border is, perhaps, the dumbest idea of the year.
We’re trying to picture how the negotiations would take place. Maybe Walker standing on one side of the border and Walker on the other? Passing papers back and forth? Maybe an intermediary handing offers from one side of the border to the other?
Another day, another campaign promise broken. Are there still any liberals out there who believe a word that comes out of President Obama’s mouth? If so, why?

FOX News has the down-low on Gitmo:
President Obama announced Monday that military trials will resume for detainees at the Guantanamo Bay prison camp, saying the tribunals are an “important tool in combating international terrorists.”
The president, who issued an executive order outlining the changes Monday afternoon, said Defense Secretary Robert Gates will rescind his January 2009 ban against bringing new charges against terror suspects in the military commissions.
Obama said in a statement that the decision was part of a plan to “broaden our ability to bring terrorists to justice.”
Obama vowed when he took office to close the detention facility at Guantanamo.
So when he holds trials at Gitmo, they are an “important tool in combating international terrorists.” But when George Bush held trials at Gitmo, they increased terrorism by inciting Muslims’ hatred for America.
Take another bow, President Obama. Take another bow.
How could Sharpton, Jackson, Rangel and the NAACP go after Don Imus for his “nappy-headed ho” comment after ignoring more offensive comments in the past?
The mystery is, why did Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson and Charlie Rangel and the NAACP the rest of the racemongers decide to go after Don Imus for his “nappy-headed ho” comment after ignoring far more offensive comments in the past?
Like this one, for example. It’s called “The Black Beatles.”
We honestly don’t know what year this clip ran, but since Imus hasn’t been funny in at least 20 or 30 years, we have to assume it’s from back in the 70s or 80s.
An internal White House memo indicates there are facing a shortage of applications for a contest to win having President Obama as commencement speaker.
Forget the Rasmussen Poll, ignore Pew and don’t bother with Gallup. The best way to gauge President Obama’s popularity may be to look at strength among America’s youth. And a recent White House memo underscores the Commander In Chief’s plummeting popularity.
No longer the big man on campus
CBS News has the declining details:
The White House is ramping up an effort to promote a nationwide competition to decide which high school wins a commencement speech by President Obama.
An internal White House memo indicates that the White House is facing a shortage of applications less than a week before the deadline.
The competition was extended from the February 25 deadline until Friday, March 11 after few schools met the original application deadline. CBS News has learned a White House Communications Office internal memo dated February 22 noted “a major issue with the Commencement Challenge.”
“As of yesterday we had received 14 applications and the deadline is Friday,” the memo said. The memo also urged recipients to, “please keep the application number close hold.”
A follow-up memo on February 28 reported receipt of 68 applications. Noting the competition among more than 1,000 schools last year, the memo said, “Something isn’t working.” It called on staffers to ask “friendly congressional, gubernatorial and mayoral offices” to encourage schools to apply.
“We should also make sure the Cabinet is pushing the competition out to their lists,” the memo said. The note reiterated, “We do not want the actual application number out there (we didn’t release the number of applications we received last year until after the submission period)-so folks should not use it in their pitches.”
On Monday, officials declined to cite the number of applications received so far.
There does appear to be hope for the youth of America.
We must have been napping when the American Muslims rose as one and took that noble stand against terrorism, because we completely missed it. But it must have happened, because President Obama said so and he wouldn’t lie.

White House spokesman Denis McDonough always keeps a pencil behind his ear so he can write down any other hilarious thoughts
The Associated Press fills in the blanks in our memory. And probably yours, too:
The White House on Sunday praised American Muslims for helping fight violent extremism, but a House leader on terrorism issues said they aren’t cooperating enough with law enforcement to counter the radicalization of young followers by al-Qaida-linked groups.
Deputy National Security Adviser Denis McDonough, speaking at an interfaith forum at a Northern Virginia mosque, commended its members for taking “an unequivocal stand against terrorism.”
“You’ve sent a message that those who perpetrate such horrific attacks do not represent you or your faith, and that they will not succeed in pitting believers of different faiths against one another,” McDonough said.
We’re picturing members of the mosque looking around at each other and saying, “Whatchu talking about, Denis?”
Australian Broadcasting Company host Jon Faine recently interviewed convicted terrorist and former Gitmo resident David Hicks.
Australian Broadcasting Company host Jon Faine recently interviewed convicted terrorist and former Gitmo resident David Hicks.
Hicks was as quick to anger as you might expect a convicted terrorist to be. Faine, on the other hand, was merely quick. Make sure you read the whole transcript just to set up Faine’s closing line.
Aussie talk show host Jon Faine learned that it's just not possible to be polite to a terrorist
Hicks: I don’t think you’ve read my book, that’s correct?
Faine: No, I’ve not read your book.
Hicks: Are you aware that I’ve even written a book?
Faine: I’m aware that you’ve written a book called Guantanamo: My Journey. When it arrived at the radio station we asked if you were available. We were told you were not, so I didn’t read it.
Hicks: What do you mean by that?
Faine: Well, this was last year I think it came out, didn’t it?
Hicks: It came out in the middle of October.
Faine: Yeah, so at the stage the book arrived you were not available so I didn’t read a book for someone I wasn’t going to interview.
Hicks: Oh, fair enough. I’d have thought you had an interest in this area and obviously you knew you’d be speaking to me, you would read about it.
Faine: I was told I’d be speaking to you about an hour ago, so I haven’t been able to read your book in an hour, so keep going, though. If you renounce terrorism, what’s led to your change of heart?
Hicks: Nothing’s led to my change of heart. It’s a bit difficult to discuss this with someone who’s not read my book. There’s tens of thousands of Australians out there who have read my book and even before then were informed enough to know differently.
Faine: Well, I plead guilty that I haven’t read your book. You plead guilty to terrorism. I think your offence is the greater. Can we discuss it, please?
You really can’t really blame Charlie Rangel. He can’t be expected to know that ordinary citizens actually get punished for their crimes.
You really can’t really blame Charlie Rangel. Based on his experience you can blatantly break the law and get a slap on the wrist. So he can’t be expected to know that ordinary citizens actually get punished for their crimes.
Charlie Rangel sees a dangerous precedent here: If you punish ordinary citizens like Afrika Owes for their crimes, it won't be long before you begin punishing Congressmen for theirs
The New York Post has the story:
Members of the Abyssinian Baptist Church packed a Manhattan courtroom yesterday, hoping to post $50,000 in church money to bail out an accused prep-schooler-turned-gun-moll — even though the renowned congregation had been the biggest crusaders against her drug ring.
But as Afrika Owes sobbed from the defense table, a Manhattan judge refused to set her free despite her contingent of church members, family and supporters — including embattled Rep. Charles Rangel.
The congressman had been so eager to weigh in in favor of the bond, he was told three times by court officers to sit back down in his front-row seat.
Not so fast, said Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Edward McLaughlin. There is no case law supporting the use of tax-exempt church funds for bail, he noted, and the parishioners who contributed these funds presumably had no idea they would be used to free an accused drug-gang conspirator.
Owes reportedly was caught on recorded phone calls agreeing to ferry guns for her accused drug-kingpin boyfriend.
“The witness against the defendant is the defendant — the defendant’s own words,” the judge noted.
We’d suggest they break out the old “She didn’t say what she said when she said it” defense. Or maybe the “Who you gonna believe – me or your lyin’ ears” defense. Either one should prove adequate to win the freedom of this poor victim of racism.
