This California congressional candidate is a real Star

Star Parker is running for Congress in California, which is several steps up from her former role on The View. She’s a conservative and the district is liberal, so she probably won’t win. But if that’s the case, California will be the real loser.

Star Parker, probably too conservative for California

Star Parker is running for Congress in California. She’s a conservative and the district is liberal, so she probably won’t win. But if that’s the case, California will be the real loser.

Speaking recently of the planned Ground Zero mosque, Parker laid it on the line.

“Americans don’t need any lessons about freedom and tolerance. Millions of Muslim Americans live, prosper and practice their faith freely in our country. According to a Google search, there are about 2,000 mosques in the United States. We have one Muslim American member of Congress who took his oath of office with his hand on the Koran. Many American universities have programs where students can learn about Islam, including Columbia in New York City.”

Speaking of President Obama’s belief that Americans “somehow bore some responsibility for the antipathy toward us in the Islamic world and that outreach would help”, Parker said, “As Johns Hopkins University Middle East Scholar Fouad Ajami pointed out in The Wall Street Journal, Obama’s outreach program has accomplished only diminished respect for us in the Islamic world. Antipathy continues to run high and unchanged and it’s not because there something wrong with us. It’s because, as Ajami writes, the U.S. is a convenient scapegoat for nations and rulers that refuse to address their own problems.”

And finally Parker tells Feisal Abdul Rauf, the man behind the $100 million dollar effort to build the Ground Zero mosque, “Of the 17 nations that Freedom House rates the ‘worst of the worst’ regarding their state of freedom, six are Islamic nations. Feisal Abdul Rauf should spend his $100 million – wherever it’s coming from – to advance the cause of freedom in Islamic countries. That is where the problem is, not here.”

We’re just guessing, but we think that the average American could really appreciate someone in Congress with the … uhhh … political will to give a speech like that.

We originally published this story with a reference to Star Parker being on the The View. Our mistake, that was Star Jones.

That sound you hear is the thumping Democrats are going to get in November

This commercial – aimed at independents – directly confronts the Democrat claim that Republicans are extremists.

In a year when everything is going their way, the Republicans seem to be helping themselves out by putting out much better commercials than they have in the past. Maybe they hired a new ad agency.

“Vote for me because I’m black” campaign strategy blackfires in Tennessee congressional race

If a white candidate had campaigned in the south by saying, “Vote for me because I’m white”, it would have been featured at the top of every newscast. But, somehow, someway, it garnered nary a mention when a black candidate said, “Vote for me because I’m black.”

If a white candidate had campaigned in the south by saying, “Vote for me because I’m white”, it would have been featured at the top of every newscast. But, somehow, someway, it garnered nary a mention when a black candidate said, “Vote for me because I’m black.”

Fox News has the discriminatory details:

steve-cohen-willie-herenton
Steve "White Devil" Cohen and Willie "Vote For Me Because I'm Black" Herenton

In a move that may have shocked even his most ardent supporters former Memphis mayor Willie Herenton stated flat out that his campaign for a seat in Congress to represent Tennessee in the 9th district will be based on race.

Holding up a picture of the 9th district representatives Herenton said, “This is an 11-member delegation. If you look at this picture, and you’re African-American, you sense the lack of representation,” ostensibly because there are no black congressmen or senators.

His opponent for the seat, incumbent Steve Cohen may be white, be he is also Jewish. He is the only Jewish member from Tennessee. What Herenton seems to have overlooked is that the largely black ninth district elected Cohen to his present position.

Herenton, who once referred to the residents of east Shelby county as “white devils” has made quite a name for himself by not hesitating to whip out the race card to get what he wants. During his almost twenty years as Memphis mayor Herenton made an issue of race and once, after another reelection victory said that “God had ordained him” for the position.

Apparently, God did not ordain a position in Congress for Herenton, because he only got 21% of the vote, which is about 21% more than he should have received.

Cohen’s campaign strategy should have been, “Vote for me because I’m not a race baiting moron.” That’s a Democrat platform we could have supported.

Pelosi says she’s not nervous, but the numbers say she should be

The Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi says, “I’m not nervous at all” about the mid-term elections. Nope. Not even the teensiest bit worried.

What, me worry? Nancy Pelosi is turning into the Congressional equivalent of Alfred E. Newman.

The Speaker of the House says, “I’m not nervous at all” about the mid-term elections. Nope. Not even the teensiest bit worried.

But ABC News reports that Pelosi has plenty of reasons to worry:

Democrats now hold a 39-seat edge in the House. Yet the playing field continues to expand: The Rothenberg Political Report currently lists 88 seats as “in play.” Seventy-six of those seats currently are held by Democrats.

Many of the same places that helped build the president’s winning coalition in his race against Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz. — states such as Ohio, Indiana, Virginia, and Pennsylvania — could be the places where Republicans rack up the gains they need to take back the House.

In many of those districts, the Obama agenda has been widely unpopular. House members are left defending votes on items including the stimulus, bailouts, health care and cap-and-trade that have grown more unpopular with the passage of time.

It means that the president and his agenda will very much be on the ballot — while the president himself won’t be the best position to help Democrats play defense.

Pelosi maintains that wide-eyed innocence ignorance no matter how bad things look.

Of course, the wide-eyed part may be the result of bad plastic surgery and a Botox overdose, but the ignorance is all-natural.

From the look on Chris Matthews’ face, either (a) his mom just died, or (b) he just admitted Republicans will win the senate

Did we see a little quiver in Chris Matthews upper lip? A little tear forming at the corner of his eye? Maybe it was just our imagination. But maybe not.

Rather: Look, there’s, there are a lot of angry people out there, and a lot of scared people. People vote their pocketbooks. That’s number one. Number two, overnight’s a long time in politics. A week is forever. We still have a long time to go and a lot of things can happen between now and November. As we sit here today, odds on the Republicans take the House – I know Democrats don’t want to hear it – retake the house.

Matthews: (glumly) I agree with that.

Rather: And the Democrats, because of the figures that have so many in the Senate, probably hold on to the Senate. And it will change the center of gravity in American politics unless something dramatic happens between now and November.

Second only to the amazing Kreskin, or maybe that Octopus who picked the World (yawn) cup winners, Joe Biden is busy peering into the future and predicting wonderful stuff for all things Democrat.

According to the website Politifi “Vice President Joe Biden brushed aside suggestions on Sunday that Democrats will suffer big losses in November mid-term Elections, vowing that Barack Obama’s governing Party will “shock the heck out of everybody”.

Of course, the free world listens breathlessly when Joe Biden speaks. We mean here is the man who reminded us that “JOBS” is a three-letter word and that you have to have a slight Indian accent to go into a Dunkin’ Donuts or a 7-11.

The article continued by saying “Speaking on the ABC News program This Week, Biden dismissed prevailing wisdom that Democrats, 17 months into Obama’s transformative residency in the White House, would suffer a drubbing at the hands of salivating Republicans. “I don’t think the losses are going to be bad at all.”

Hmmm. We will leave it up to the IHTM readers to decide who sounded less intelligent in the above paragraph – Joe Biden for his idiotic statement or Politifi for saying “Obama’s transformative residency in the White House.”

Which one’s crazier? Olbermann interviews Alvin Greene.

This Keith Olbermann interview of Alvin Greene features awkward moments of silence. Long, awkward moments of silence. And those were the best parts of the interview.

You’ve probably heard about Alvin Greene, the guy South Caroline Democrats nominated to run against popular Republican Jim DeMint for the U.S. Senate.

This Olbermann interview features awkward moments of silence. Long, awkward moments of silence. And those were the best parts of the interview. In fact, they may have been the best moments of any Keith Olbermann show we’ve ever seen.

Greene is a Democrat, so of course, Olbermann treated him with the utmost respect despite the fact that he has a felony obscenity charge pending against him and despite the fact that he appears to be certifiably insane.

Greene, that is, not Olbermann. Although he’s pretty damned crazy, too.

We knew this guy sounded familiar: Alvin Greene inspired by Peter Sellers character?

The story. The voice. The mannerisms. No doubt about it, South Carolina Democrat Alvin Greene is bringing Chauncey Gardener, the Peter Sellers character in Being There, to life.

South Carolina Democrats nominate unknown, unemployed loser with pending felony obscenity charge

Republicans. They’re more informed. More educated. And, apparently, more likely to nominate someone like Alvin Greene.

alvin greene south carolina
Alvin Greene can run for office, but he can't run from his past.

Those Democrats, we’re often told, are just plain smarter than Republicans. They’re more informed. More educated. And, apparently, more likely to nominate someone like Alvin Greene.

Greene won South Carolina’s Democrat Senate primary on Tuesday, but no one is quite sure how. A lot of candidates get labeled unknown outside their own states, but Greene is unknown inside his own state. That may explain why he won the primary.

In addition to being unknown, Greene is unemployed. He says he paid for his entire campaign with his own funds.

“It was 100 percent out of my pocket. I’m self-managed. It’s hard work, and just getting my message to supporters. I funded my campaign 100 percent out of my pocket and self-managed,” he added.

South Carolina Democratic Party Chairwoman Carol Fowler says blind luck may have propelled Greene to victory:

“[Greene may have] won because his name appeared first on the ballot, and voters unfamiliar with both candidates chose alphabetically.”

Unfortunately for Greene, he is not completely unknown in South Carolina. Police seem to know him pretty well. In November of 2009, he was charged with a felony for showing “adult” photos to a University of South Carolina student. A conviction could mean up to five years in prison and if he should he win in November, that would overlap rather neatly with his six-year senate term.

Greene may become the first Democrat to be convicted before going to Washington, DC, effectively reversing the typical Democrat career path.

UPDATE: We found his Alvin Greene’s inspiration.

Senile old man found wandering streets of Washington, DC muttering, “I can still win.”

C’mon, Nevada. This guy’s a thousand year’s old and so senile that he voted against his own healthcare bill. Twice.

Harry Reid

C’mon, Nevada. This guy’s a thousand year’s old and so senile that he voted against his own healthcare bill. Twice.

Do the right thing. Send the poor old codger to a nice retirement home in Winnemucca.

This isn’t the year for Democrats to run for office in Nevada. Especially if their name is Reid.

Republican Brian Sandoval now leads Rory Reid by 21 points in Nevada’s race for governor, but even embattled GOP incumbent Jim Gibbons has moved into a virtual tie with the Democratic hopeful.

Rory Reid looks like his father, but lacks his trademark charisma

The morning of November 3, 2010 will not be a happy one in the homes of any Nevada Democrats cursed with the last name Reid.

Rasmussen reveals the sad news for Harry Reid’s son Rory:

Republican Brian Sandoval now leads Rory Reid by 21 points in Nevada’s race for governor, but even embattled GOP incumbent Jim Gibbons has moved into a virtual tie with the Democratic hopeful.

The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of likely voters in Nevada shows Sandoval, a former state attorney general and judge, now leading Reid 55% to 34%. A month ago, the GOP frontrunner was ahead by 18 points, 53% to 35%. Six percent (6%) prefer some other candidate, and four percent (4%) are undecided.

But Reid also now trails his two other top GOP rivals. His father, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, continues to struggle against his three top Republican opponents in the state’s U.S. Senate race.

Mike Montandon, the mayor of North Las Vegas, posts a 45% to 38% lead over Rory Reid, currently chairman of the influential Clark County Board of Commissioners. Given that match-up, nine percent (9%) like some other candidate, and eight percent (8%) are undecided. In March, Montandon had a 42% to 37% lead.

Gibbons, whose unpopularity is attested to by the challenges for the governor nomination within his own party, now edges Reid 45% to 43%, after trailing the Democrat by eight points a month ago. Eight percent (8%) want some other candidate, and four percent (4%) are undecided.

Nice to see that Rory Reid is following in his father’s footsteps.

Luntz: I will tell you two things will happen. One is that everyone who is opposed to this (Obamacare) will positively come out and vote because they will feel that it is not only their right but their responsibility to send a message and two, you will see democrats defeated in places that haven’t elected a Republican since 1994.

That Magic Touch: Obama campaigns for Reid, Reid loses ground in polls

Proving once again that the magic touch is gone, President Obama’s campaign appearances for Harry Reid helped the popularity-challenged Senator lose ground among Nevada voters.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reveals the depressing details:

During his whirlwind visit to Las Vegas two weeks ago, President Barack Obama mentioned U.S. Sen. Harry Reid by name four dozen times, gave him a big hug and talked him up as if he was a long-lost brother.

(IHTM Editor’s Note: Despite Obama’s assertion that Reid is a long-long brother, Reid does not appear to have a negro dialect. So we think the President may be mistaken.)

In remarks that could not have been more laudatory, Obama repeatedly characterized the veteran Democratic leader as a man “made of very strong stuff” who was making the right decisions for the state back in the nation’s capital.

But as Reid faces an uphill path to win re-election to a fifth Senate term, Obama’s enthusiastic endorsement does not appear to have improved the Senate majority leader’s standing among constituents, according to a new poll conducted for the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Reid got no bounce from Obama’s visit on Feb. 19, when the president spoke highly of him at Green Valley High School and to business leaders at CityCenter, polling indicates.

A larger percentage of voters surveyed (17 percent) said they would be less likely to vote for Reid following the president’s visit than said they would be more likely to vote for him (7 percent). Seventy-five percent said Obama’s visit would have no effect on how they vote.

“Reid was not helped, and Obama was not any more popular than he was before he came to the state,” said Brad Coker, managing director at Mason-Dixon Polling & Research.

Based on Obama’s campaign successes in Virginia, Pennsylvania and Massachusetts, we eagerly anticipate his campaign tour prior to the November elections.

Go, Barack, go.

Juan Williams predicts Obama landslide. Is he insane or clairvoyant?

63% of voters think congress sucks, shouldn’t be re-elected

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 63% of likely voters believe, generally speaking, that it would be better for the country if most incumbents in Congress were defeated this November.

John Murtha (D-Hell), one incumbent who isn't worried about voter wrath this November

Vote the bums out. That’s the clear message being sent by most American voters. And they’re looking straight at congress when they say it.

Rasmussen tells the terrifying tale for incumbents:

Most voters think the country would be better off if the majority of the current Congress wasn’t reelected this November, and their confidence in their own congressman continues to fall.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 63% of likely voters believe, generally speaking, that it would be better for the country if most incumbents in Congress were defeated this November.
Just 19% disagree and say it would be better if most congressional incumbents were reelected. Another 18% aren’t sure.

The Political Class strongly rejects these views, however. While 78% of Mainstream voters say it would be better for the country if most of the current Congress was turned out of office, 89% of the Political Class think it would be better if most were reelected.

Political class. Two words that are increasing contradictory.

Rasmussen poll: Harry Reid now losing to four Republicans, a Whig and a Druid

Businessman Danny Tarkanian now leads Reid 47% to 39%. Sue Lowden, ex-chairman of the Nevada Republican Party, holds a 45% to 39% lead on the Senate majority leader, while former Assemblywoman Sharron Angle earns 44% of the vote to Reid’s 40%.

OK, we made up the part about the Whig and the Druid. But since everyone who’s even thinking about getting into the Nevada senate race now outpolls Reid, we suspect a Whig and a Druid would also be favored over Reid.

Here’s how Rasmussen reports Reid’s imminent retirement:

Businessman Danny Tarkanian now leads Reid 47% to 39%. Sue Lowden, ex-chairman of the Nevada Republican Party, holds a 45% to 39% lead on the Senate majority leader, while former Assemblywoman Sharron Angle earns 44% of the vote to Reid’s 40%.

Nevada Lieutenant Governor Brian Krolicki, another Republican who is now reportedly considering entering the race, barely edges Reid 44% to 41%. A judge in December dismissed an indictment against Krolicki alleging that he mishandled money while serving as state treasurer. Krolicki charged that the indictment was politically motivated.

And now we bid a fond farewell to the soft spoken Reid with Roy Rogers’ and Dale Evans’ rendition of Happy Trails To You.

As Casey Kasem might have said on American Top 40, “This one’s goin’ out to Harry Reid in Las Vegas, Nevada.”
