Is Al Franken going conservative? He’s condemning the FCC’s net neutrality regulations

How unpopular are the FCC’s new net neutrality regulations? Even liberal Senator Al Franken objects to this outrageous power grab. He took to the floor of the Senate to deliver a speech that sounded more like “Mr Smith Goes To Washington” than “Saturday Night Live.

How unpopular are the FCC’s new net neutrality regulations? Even liberal Senator Al Franken objects to this outrageous power grab.

He took to the floor of the Senate to deliver a speech that sounded more like “Mr Smith Goes To Washington” than “Saturday Night Live.” He lambasted Federal Communications Commission Chairman Julius Genachows’ proposed regulations.

“I sincerely hope that the FCC will make significant improvements before then,” Franken said, “and that each of the Commissioners will think long and hard before they vote to approve a proposal that could actually make things worse for all Americans.”

Hey, here’s an idea, Al. How about if the United States Senate actually takes its Constitutional responsibilities seriously and slaps down this bureaucratic fiat.

Nah, what are we talking about? That’s just crazy talk.

Barney Frank says not allowing gays and straights to shower together is discrimination, dammit!

Ol’ Barney says that it would be discrimination if gays and straights are not allowed to shower together. Think of it as his own personal “Don’t Ask, Don’t Drop The Soap” policy.

A true story from the Editor’s past: A kid from France transferred to my high school. How a kid from France ended up in that godforsaken corner of California I don’t know, but that’s neither here nor there. Frenchy Boy was in my gym class. He got an erection every day in the showers. As a result, he had no friends and I began developing an intense Francophobia.

With that as background, let’s move on to the Barney Frank story.

Ol’ Barney says that it would be discrimination if gays and straights are not allowed to shower together. Think of it as his own personal “Don’t Ask, Don’t Drop The Soap” policy.

“To accept the principle that homosexuals can’t shower with other people is a degree of discrimination that goes far beyond this. We don’t get ourselves drycleaned. We tend to take showers when we go to the gym; when we play sports,” Frank said.

Note to Congressman Frank: Playing grab ass is not considered a sport.

New Zealand scientists run smack dab into reality: There ain’t no global warming

New Zealand National Institute of Water & Atmospheric Research has been forced to retract their phony temperature numbers for the past century. No warming has occurred in NZ since 1960.

New Zealand, home of the stunning glaciers and the soaring Southern Alps and eco-wackos galore. Yeah, that New Zealand, the pristine country whose scientists just came to a very inconvenient conclusion.

new zealand southern alps
New Zealand's Southern Alps are not threatened by global warming. Neither is anything else.

The Scoop New Zealand has the recalibrated reality:

New Zealand National Institute of Water & Atmospheric Research has been forced to retract their phony temperature numbers for the past century. No warming has occurred in NZ since 1960.

NIWA has abandoned the official national temperature record and created a new one following sustained pressure from the NZ Climate Science Coalition and the Climate Conversation Group.

Does anyone have any idea if it would contribute to global warming if we tarred and feathered Al Gore?

Al Sharpton ends the year on a high note: “Imagine the arrogance of allowing people to say what they want”

Al Sharpton continued his on-going jihad against Rush Limbaugh. He wants government regulations to stop the world’s highest rated talk show host from saying those horrible things Sharpton imagines that he says.

You put Al Sharpton in front of a camera with Ed Schultz and it’s inevitable that something stupid will be said (again).

Sharpton didn’t disappoint in his remarkably unsuccessful, yet on-going jihad against Rush Limbaugh. He wants government regulations to stop the world’s highest rated talk show host from saying those horrible things Sharpton imagines that he says.

Sharpton: Well, first of all, we’re not talking about censorship. We’re talking about standards. [R-i-i-i-g-h-t.] And there are already standards in place. We’re saying those standards ought to include those that in an explicit or even an implicit way practice racism or sexism or homophobia on the airwaves. And can you imagine the arrogance of saying federally-regulated airwaves should not be subjected to federal public hearings, so they should just grant licenses, allow people to say what they want?

Just wondering, Al, would those new regulations stop you and Ed Schultz from saying the things you say?

Nah, we didn’t think so.

Behold the U.S. Postal Service’s new 44-cent stamp. It features the strong, manly features of Ronaldus Magnus.

The Washington Times has the details:

Former first lady Nancy Reagan helped unveil the design of the Ronald Reagan Centennial postage stamp during a ceremony Monday at the Reagan presidential library in Simi Valley, Calif.

The stamp features a close-up of the 40th president’s face with his Santa Barbara ranch in the background.

The Ventura County Star reports the stamp will go on sale Feb. 10, four days after what would have been Ronald Reagan’s 100th birthday.

We hear that the Postal Service is also introducing a new Barney Frank design. It will be the first stamp that licks you.

Prominent southern Democrat switches to Republican party. Prominent young southern black Democrat.

One Democrat after another has been switching to the Republican party in the South. Of course, the spurned Democrats dismiss them as mere rednecks. That argument becomes a bit problematic when it comes to the latest defection, Hall County Commissioner Ashley Bell. If we’re not mistaken, he’s black.

The Gainesville Times has details of the switcheroo:

“I always thought of myself as a conservative,” Bell said. “After I got elected, I realized I was more conservative than I thought, when actually having to make tough decisions about what to do with people’s tax dollars and being a steward of public trust.”

ashley bell black republican
Ashley Bell just became one of those redneck Republicans

Bell said he feels the Democratic Party has become more liberal in recent years, making the Republican Party a better match for his ideals.”It’s a large party and I definitely fit comfortably in the conservative wing of the Republican Party,” Bell said.

While considering the move, Bell sought the advice of people from both parties, who told him to go where he feels most comfortable.

“I have no reservations, and I’m 100 percent comfortable with changing my party affiliation to the party that reflects the way I feel about government and the role government should play in our lives, which is one of less intrusion,” Bell said.

Welcome aboard, Ashley. Glad to have you. Just make sure you’re ready for Joe Biden to announce that you’re neither clean nor good-looking nor articulate.

Obama now officially living like a czar. Check out these White House Christmas photos.

The people at the White House have not yet heard the news that there’s a bit of a recession going. As a result, the Obamas continue to live lifestyles reminiscent of the czars. The only thing missing is a nice little collection of Fabergé eggs.

The people at the White House have not yet heard the news that there’s a bit of a recession going. As a result, the Obamas continue to live lifestyles reminiscent of the czars. The only thing missing is a nice little collection of Fabergé eggs.

Take, for example, the way the White House was decorated for Christmas. A couple weeks ago we had the story of hundreds of employees taking more than four days to decorate the White House Christmas tree. Silly us. We assumed that “the White House Christmas tree” meant there was one White House Christmas tree. But no. The White House has a friggin’ forest of Christmas trees. It’s just this side of an environmental disaster. And that’s just the beginning of the Obama’s ostentatious display of conspicuous consumption.

Here’s how Time Magazine describes it:

Inside Obama’s White House: a replica White House (made of gingerbread), a marzipan version of dog Bo and more Christmas trees than you can count.

The president’s Washington home has been elaborately outfitted for the holidays, with this year’s theme being “Simple Gifts.” Some of the decor is absolutely tiny. Inside the 350-pound, white chocolate-covered gingerbread replica White House is a miniature reproduction of the East Room (containing chocolate furniture), and there’s even a mini White House garden (also made of marzipan).

But dog Bo is the true star of this year’s Christmas decorations. Besides the marzipan Bo, there is another Bo replica made of 40,000 twisted black and white pipe cleaners.

Even though the theme is “Simple Gifts,” much of the decoration throughout the White House is anything but simple, including the numerous Christmas trees throughout as well as large stone urns filled with birch, beech and crystal branches.

The theme is “Simple Gifts” and yet they have a friggin’ forest of Christmas trees and a 350-pound white chocolate-covered gingerbread replica of the White House complete with a marzipan version of the President’s dog? Call us crazy, but that seems to be just about as far away from the concept of a simple gift as is possible.

Don’t look now, but the Obamas aren’t even in Washington, DC to enjoy this excess of excess. Why, in the middle of the Obama recession, are we pissing away this kind of money to decorate their home when they’re halfway around the world in freakin’ Hawaii for Christmas?

Top 10 theories about what caused that horrible smell at the U.N.

What was that horrible smell at the U.N. this week? Whatever it was it closed down the U.N.’s New York headquarters today and — for a few hours at least — minimized the damage the organization was likely to cause had it stayed open.

What was that horrible smell at the U.N. last week? Whatever it was it closed down the U.N.’s New York headquarters and — for a few hours at least — minimized the damage the organization was likely to cause had it stayed open.

Reuters reports offensive olfactory ooziness:

rosie-odonnell
From the look on Rosie O'Donnell's face, you'll know why she's Reason #10

The U.N. Security Council and General Assembly were evacuated on Tuesday due to a “suspicious odor,” a U.N. spokesman said.

… Spokesman Farhan Haq said the evacuation was a precautionary measure. “We are currently trying to identify the odor with local authorities,” he said.

Both the Security Council and the General Assembly had scheduled meetings on Tuesday, which were delayed by the evacuation.

Late reports say it may have been a broken sewer main, but we have ten other theories about the source of the odor:

  1. No big deal. It was the same stench of corruption always found at the U.N.
  2. Lingering odor left behind by Muammar Gaddafi’s camel
  3. After marathon BS session members of the UN Security Council discover that their shit does, in fact, stink.
  4. You know what they say about who “smelt it.”
  5. Sniff, sniff. Smells like another $2 billion being pissed away.
  6. Hugo Chavez said the smell is either the remnants of George W. Bush’s fiery rhetoric or a burrito he had last night at Chipotle.
  7. Badges? Kofi Annan don’t need to stinkin’ badges.
  8. The entire General Assembly was supposed to be hypnotized by secret agents into believing they were “Smart Fellers,” but the translators screwed up.
  9. Due to a translation problem, the Secretion Council held its meeting in the wrong room.
  10. In a totally unrelated story, Rosie O’Donnell had Mexican room service just two blocks away.

Progress against the Progressives: Majority of U.S. voters now think ObamaCare will be overturned

Last week a federal judge ruled ObamaCare unconstitutional. This week Rasmussen reports that a majority of U.S. voters now think the legislative abomination will be overturned.

Last week a federal judge ruled ObamaCare unconstitutional. This week Rasmussen reports that a majority of U.S. voters now think the legislative abomination will be overturned.

obamacare-posterNancy Pelosi was right. We had to pass the bill in order to find out what was in it. And now that we’ve found out, we don’t like it.

Rasmussen reports on the turn of the American voter:

For the first time since Democrats in Congress passed the health care bill in March, a majority of U.S. voters believe the measure is likely to be repealed.
A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 52% of Likely U.S. Voters think it is at least somewhat likely that the health care plan will be repealed. Thirty-three percent (33%) view repeal as unlikely. Those figures include 16% who believe repeal is Very Likely and 5% who believe it is Not at All Likely.

The number who view repeal as Likely is up from 47% last month and from 38% in early April. Belief that the plan is likely to be repealed has been hovering in the 40% range in surveys since April but began to rise in late October.

It’s all good. Well, at least until you remember that this all depends on the gutless Republicans actually doing what they said they were going to do.

Aw, crap, now we’re depressed again.

About that environmental disaster in the Gulf of Mexico. Never mind.

Remember when the Gusher in the Gulf started spewing oil? How they said it was going to be the worst environmental disaster in history? Never mind.

Remember when the Gusher in the Gulf started spewing oil? How they said it was going to be the worst environmental disaster in history? When they it was going to destroy all wildlife in the Gulf? When they said that the waters of the Gulf would become one giant dead zone?

Never mind.

The Weekly Standard has an update the lunatic left would rather you skipped:

obama-oil-spill-2
The oil spill did far more long-term damage to Obama's approval rating than it did to the Gulf

The ecosystem of the Gulf itself turns out to have suffered remarkably little damage from the continuous gushing of oil into the water from April 20 till July 15, when the leaking well was capped. One group of scientists rated the health of the Gulf’s ecology at 71 on a scale of 100 before the spill and 65 in October. By mid-August, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) was having trouble finding spilled oil …
NOAA explained one reason for this in a report in August: “It is well known that bacteria that break down the dispersed and weathered surface oil are abundant in the Gulf of Mexico in large part because of the warm water, the favorable nutrient and oxygen levels, and the fact that oil regularly enters the Gulf of Mexico through natural seeps.” In other words, the organisms that normally live off the Gulf’s large natural seepage of oil into the water multiplied extremely rapidly and went on a feeding frenzy. Another 25 percent of the spilled oil—the lightest and most toxic part—simply evaporated at the surface or dissolved quickly.

Damage to wildlife, too, was relatively sparse.

Environmentalists responded by saying, “Yeah, but…yeah, but…yeah, but….”

Lobster tacos, an IHateTheMedia.com Christmas tradition

We’ll also observe the day with our own unique IHateTheMedia.com Christmas traditions:

The Editor will once again leer at the Administrator’s 20-year old daughter’s friends while fantasizing that they see him as something other than a dirty old man. The Administrator will play his annual game of grab ass with the Editor’s wife. And both wives will observe it all while shaking their heads and wondering, “What the hell is wrong with those two?”

After dinner the Administrator will say, “C’mon, we’re smart guys. Let’s come up with an idea that will make us a million dollars” and the Editor will respond with the seasonal, “Shut up. I’m trying to watch football.”

Ahhh, tradition. It truly is the glue that holds society together.

We wish you and your family and friends a wonderful Christmas.

See you on Monday.

Attorney General admits that Obama policies have radicalized terrorists

Attorney General Eric Holder points the finger of blame at Barack Obama

ABC News has the Attorney General’s blunt admission:

“It is one of the things that keeps me up at night,” Holder said. “You didn’t worry about this even two years ago — about individuals, about Americans, to the extent that we now do. And — that is of — of great concern.”

“The threat has changed from simply worrying about foreigners coming here, to worrying about people in the United States, American citizens — raised here, born here, and who for whatever reason, have decided that they are going to become radicalized and take up arms against the nation in which they were born,” he said.

Now hold on just a darn minute, Mr. Attorney General. We thought the administration’s official position was that George Bush’s flawed policies had caused terrorism. Yet now you’re saying that radicalized American terrorists have become a problem in the last two years?

Let’s see, now who’s been President for the last two years.

Hey, that’s Barack Obama, isn’t it?

Spread the word: Eric Holder thinks his boss is the new Bushitler.

Global warming update: Summer snow strikes Australia

THONGS and board shorts gave way to beanies and scarves yesterday as summer gave way to a wintry blast of snow and icy temperatures in Australia’s southeast.

You read about those record cold temperatures hitting Europe and the northern United States and you say, “Well, sure, but winter’s just a few days away so it’s not that strange.”

australia-snow
This looks like one of those "What's wrong with this picture?" pictures from back in grade school

Hmmm. Then how do you explain snow in Australia a few days away from summer?

News.com.au has the frigid factoids:

THONGS and board shorts gave way to beanies and scarves yesterday as summer gave way to a wintry blast of snow and icy temperatures in the country’s southeast.

While the bitter freeze in Europe continues, Victoria and NSW have had a cold snap of their own, with off-season ski slopes transformed into winter wonderlands.

About 30cm of snow fell at Perisher in NSW yesterday, while Victoria’s Mount Hotham received a 10cm dusting on Sunday.

Charlotte’s Pass in the NSW Snowy Mountains also received a 10cm sprinkling of snow, prompting would-be bushwalkers to don clothing more suitable for skiing.

It was surprising to see the Kosciuszko Chalet Hotel blanketed with snow at this time of year, resort manager Michelle Lovius told The Australian yesterday.

“I’m sitting inside in my scarf and beanie,” she said.

“When you walk in it, it’s up past your ankles and it’s just started snowing heavily again.”

Will the environmentalists admit that they were wrong? That’ll be a cold day in hell. And in Australia.

Barney Frank insists gays aren’t girlie, says “I left my purse at home”

In other words, Barney Frank says, “Gays aren’t girlie. Oh, by the way, I left my purse at home” and Chris Matthews thinks, “Oooh, I wonder if it was the mauve one with the sequins.”

Please allow us to summarize this odd clip in one sentence:

A guy who told a national TV audience that he gets a tingle up his leg every time he hears Barack Obama speak interviews the guy who’s boyfriend ran a gay prostitution ring out of his basement.

In other words, Barney Frank says, “Gays aren’t girlie. Oh, by the way, I left my purse at home” and Chris Matthews thinks, “Oooh, I wonder if it was the mauve one with the sequins.”

In other other words, Barney Frank proves that gays aren’t girlie by being far more masculine than the guy who’s interviewing him.

It’s year-end wrap-up time here at IHateTheMedia.com, ladies and gentlemen. And the winner of the award for “Strangest Newspaper Retraction of 2010” goes to the Fresno Bee for this very odd one about a high school wrestling match.

A detailed clarification of the “butt drag”

butt drag
Don't Ask, Dont Tell: This is what the Butt-Drag looks like in action

A front-page story Sunday about a Buchanan High School wrestler accused of sexual battery said the “butt drag” maneuver involves a wrestler putting fingers in his rival’s anus to get leverage. There’s no formal definition of the move, but coaches say it involves grabbing the butt cheek of a rival. Coaches vary on how often anal penetration occurs, but they say that it should never be intentional. The move does not involve skin-on-skin contact; the wrestler practicing the move is pushing his fingers against his opponent’s uniform.

In addition, stories about the case on Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday incorrectly said the wrestler had been expelled. He has been suspended pending an expulsion hearing.

“The wrestler practicing the move is pushing his fingers against his opponent’s uniform.”

You mean they actually practice this?

On ABC’s World News tonight, Diane Sawyer sat down with Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano to talk about the possibility of a terror attack over the holidays.

And Napolitano, doing her best to keep us all feeling cozy and warm, said it’s almost a year-round operation:

“What I say to the American people is that… thousands of people are working 24/7, 364 days a year to keep the American people safe.”

Got that? Homeland Security is keeping us safe 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 364 days a year. With that in mind, here are some photos of TSA agents on Day 365.

November: Michelle Obama announces plan to add salad bars to 6000 schools.
December: al-Qaeda announces plan to poison salad bars.

The First Lady announced her plan to put salad bars in 6,000 American schools. Now comes word that al Qaeda is plotting to poison salad bars.

Is Michelle Obama working with the terrorists to kill American children?

Last month the First Lady announced her multi-billion dollar plan grand plan to put salad bars in 6,000 American schools.

Now comes word from CBS that salad bars may be the next target of terrorists. The former Tiffany network said it has confirmed “credible” threats that terrorists want to target salad bars and buffets by spiking the greens with deadly poisons such as ricin and cyanide.

CBS News reports:

In online propaganda al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula has praised the cargo attack, part of what it called “Operation Hemorrhage.”

The propaganda says in part, “…attacking the enemy with smaller but more frequent operations“ to ”add a heavy economic burden to an already faltering economy.”

Manuals and videos on jihadist websites explain how to easy it is to make both poisons.

“Initially it would look very much like food poisoning,” said St. John’s University professor of pharmaceutical sciences Dr. Susan Ford.

She showed how little of each poison could be fatal by putting a small amount of poison in cups.

That incompetent Bush administration only emphasized the three R’s: readin’, ‘ritin, ‘rithmetic. Leave it to the Obama administration to add a fourth one: ricin.

Larry King ends it all: The post mortem of his final show you won’t see anywhere else

It was a rare “I love the media” moment. Every once in a while they get one right, like this week when CNN mercy-killed the Larry King Show after twenty-five years.

The end came fifteen years after it should have, but better late than never.

Sprinkled in with the cheap shots at conservatives that viewers have come to expect from a CNN special were some fine moments. Regis and Donald Trump unintentionally brought attention to the elephant in the room (see 10:23 of the video) Regis said, “Why is he leaving?” and Trump responded, “Yes, what the hell is going on here?” The unspoken truth is, of course, that Larry wasn’t leaving – he was unceremoniously booted out the door due to years of dismal ratings.

Also notable, King said (18:05 of the video), “We’ll be back with America’s best news anchors” before being joined by Katie Couric, Diane Sawyer, Barbara Walters and Brian Williams. Not a one of them from CNN, the self-labeled “Worldwide Leader in News” and “Most Trusted Name in News.” Some people believe it was a subtle dig from Larry at the network that fired him, but let’s face it, Larry ain’t that sharp.

Unfortunately, they didn’t have room on the show for everyone. Guests we would like to have seen who were not invited include Sean Hannity, who did as much to make CNN’s nine o’clock hour as irrelevant as King himself, and the baseball instructor Larry hired for his kids, Hector “I had sex with Larry’s wife, in his bed, while watching him on TV” Penate.

To see Larry’s emotional, teary goodbye, watch the final 30 seconds.

Will the media make fun of him like they do Republican leader John Boehner? Yeah, right.

Not exactly WikiLeaks: Robert Gibbs reveals that Joe Biden doesn’t know what he’s talking about

It’s no state secret that Joe Biden is dumb as a box of rocks. Need proof? When was the last time you saw a White House Press Secretary stand up and do damage control by announcing that the Vice President didn’t know what he was talking about.

It’s no state secret that Joe Biden is dumb as a box of rocks. Need proof? When was the last time you saw a White House Press Secretary stand up and do damage control by announcing that the Vice President didn’t know what he was talking about.

Politico.com has details of Washington’s worst kept secret:

White House press secretary Robert Gibbs sought to clear up Vice President Biden’s comments on U.S. troop levels in Afghanistan on Monday, arguing that the rebuilding nation will follow a similar path that Iraq did.

Biden said Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press” that “we’re going to be totally out of there come hell or high water by 2014.”

What Biden meant to say, Gibbs argued, was that the “combat role” in Afghanistan would end by 2014.

“I would point you to what was decided in Lisbon just a few weeks ago, that we will, much like we have in Iraq, transfer primary security of Afghanistan to the Afghans, as NATO and ISAF agreed, by the end of 2014, which would – which would end our combat – our combat commitment in Afghanistan,” Gibbs told reporters.

Pressed on whether troops will be completely gone, Gibbs said, “I think what the vice president was discussing was our combat role.”

Translation: “C’mon, guys. It’s bad enough that I have to stand up here and take heat for my boss’ incompetence. Do I really need to cover for the Vice Idiot, too? They don’t pay me enough for this.”

Muslim student offended because teacher said the word “ham” in class

TypicallySpanish.com has this report of political correctness run amok:

The parents of a Muslim boy who attends a secondary school in La Línea, Cádiz province, have reported their son’s teacher for an incident in the boy’s geography class which the child said caused him offence as a Muslim.

The teacher, with more than 20 years in the profession, was explaining to the class how the cold climate in Trevélez, Granada province, aided in the curing of the village’s most famous local product, jamón serrano. The boy told his teacher that hearing the word ‘ham’ in class was offensive to him because of his religion and asked his geography teacher to stop referring to the product which caused him offence.

El Mundo newspaper reports that the boy’s parents then reported the teacher to both the National Police and to the courts. It’s understood that an internal investigation is also underway by the education authority in Cádiz province.

Mmmmm, ham. It puts the fat in fatwa.

Napolitano said the day before this interview that the Brits have come up with no evidence to indicate that the plot was aimed at the United States, but what the hell. Shouldn’t a guy with the title Director of National Intelligence know about a major terror bust just carried out by our top ally?

Even Sawyer is stunned by the fact that he doesn’t.

Don’t bother asking 60 Minutes’ Andy Rooney for anything for your school, church or charity. He won’t give it to you. But since the octogenarian curmudgeon is a good liberal, we assume he’d be ok with the government taking something from everyone else.

By the way, nice time of year to clarify your lack of charity, Andy.

Chinese runner does perfect impression of Harry Reid

Just like ol’ Harry, this Chinese runner ignores long-standing rules, attempts to strongarm the opposition, makes a mockery of the process and pisses off all his competitors. The only real difference is that Harry won his race.

Porkapalooza: Democrats out-pork Republicans by a 50-to-1 margin

Let’s see what was on the Democrat menu last week. Mmmmm, looks like pork, more pork and if we’re not mistaken, still more pork.

Let’s see what was on the Democrat menu last week. Mmmmm, looks like pork, more pork and if we’re not mistaken, still more pork.

Byron York exposes the facts in the pages of The Washington Examiner:

Republicans put a bullet between the eyes of the huge Democrats pork monster

Press coverage of the budget frenzy on Capitol Hill has suggested that pork-barrel earmark spending is still a bipartisan problem, that after months of self-righteous rhetoric about fiscal discipline, Republicans and Democrats remain equal-opportunity earmarkers.

It’s not true. A new analysis by a group of federal-spending watchdogs shows a striking imbalance between the parties when it comes to earmark requests. Democrats remain raging spenders, while Republicans have made enormous strides in cleaning up their act.

In the Senate, the GOP made only one-third as many earmark requests as Democrats for 2011, and in the House, Republicans have nearly given up earmarking altogether — while Democrats roll on.

… In the 2011 House budget, the groups found that House Democrats requested 18,189 earmarks, which would cost the taxpayers a total of $51.7 billion, while House Republicans requested just 241 earmarks, for a total of $1 billion.

So when you hear Democrat apologists utter the words, “They all do it,” rest assured that the “all” refers to Democrats.
