Good news: We now have so much money that Obama’s spending it to repair Mexican trucks

President Obama decided that the solution to the problem isn’t to ban Mexican trucks from the United States, it’s to spend American tax dollars to upgrade the Mexican trucks.

Problem number one: Thanks to the geniuses who negotiated NAFTA, Mexican trucks are allowed to deliver their payloads in the United States.

mexican-truck-protest
Protest all you want, suckers, the Obama administration ain't listening

Problem number two: Mexico doesn’t have our strict pollution regulations, so its trucks spew ungodly amounts of toxic gasses.

Problem number three: President Obama decided that the solution to the problem isn’t to ban Mexican trucks from the United States, it’s to spend American tax dollars to upgrade the Mexican trucks.

Judicial Watch reports the madness:

In the latest effort to accommodate its cherished trade partner in the south, the U.S. government is paying to upgrade outdated Mexican trucks that hemorrhage illegal amounts of exhaust on their trips north to deliver merchandise.

The Mexican trucks enter the U.S. under a 17-year-old international trade pact known as the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and they’ve created an air pollution crisis. The air quality in border towns has been especially impacted by the exorbitant levels of exhaust released by the Mexican trucks, which also fail to meet American safety standards.

Since the Mexican truckers have no intention of fixing the problem, Uncle Sam has stepped in to save the environment. U.S. taxpayers have picked up the cost to replace old mufflers on dozens of trucks and many more are scheduled to be upgraded by the middle of this year. The unbelievable story was reported this week by an Arizona newspaper that says replacing the old mufflers with new catalytic converters will reduce harmful diesel emissions by up to 30%.

There’s only one thing that would make this story more ludicrous: If we find out that the American government is now paying Mexican truck drivers the difference between what they would make in Mexico and what union truck drivers make in the United States.

Sadly, you wouldn’t be surprised, would you?

Three months are up: Has Jerry Brown solved California’s budget crisis yet?

Last October, gubernatorial candidate Jerry Brown told a crowd of leftist lunatics, “I’m not going to sign any bills until we get the budget solved and that may take me a couple of months.”

Jerrry Brown was sworn in as California governor on January 3. So it’s time to check in on the Honorable Governor Moonbeam.

Last October, gubernatorial candidate Jerry Brown told a crowd of leftist lunatics, “I’m not going to sign any bills until we get the budget solved and that may take me a couple of months.”

As we said at the time, “Note that he said it may take him a couple of months. This guy’s such an economic wizard that he may just get the whole thing wrapped up in a couple weeks. With a little luck, maybe just a day or two.”

How’s that little budget problem going, Jerry? Solved it yet? What’s that? You want to raise taxes to solve the problem but can’t get the Republicans to cooperate? And you want to cut spending but can’t get the Democrats to cooperate?

Maybe you should California residents an exit fee at the Arizona, Nevada and Oregon borders as they flee the state. That should balance the budget in no time at all.

You elected him, California. You’re getting what you deserve.

Good news: Iceland’s penis museum finally gets its hands on a human specimen

We’re not sure which news is the most disturbing – the fact that Iceland has a penis museum or that someone donated their organ to it.

We’re not sure which news is the most disturbing – the fact that Iceland has a penis museum or that someone donated their organ to it.

The Associated Press has the flaccid facts:

In life, Pall Arason sought attention. In death, he is getting it: The 95-year-old Icelander’s pickled penis will be the main attraction in one of his country’s most bizarre museums.

penis-museum
This is either Iceland's penis museum or Iceland's hat rack museum. We're not sure which.

Sigurdur Hjartarson, who runs the Phallological Museum in the tiny Icelandic fishing town of Husavik, said Arason’s organ will help round out the unusual institution’s extensive collection of phalluses from whales, seals, bears and other mammals.

Hjartarson should be glad he lives in Iceland. If the museum were located in a warmer climate, he’d need a larger erection…uhhh…facility for his penises. Shrinkage, you know.

Highlights of the museum’s collection include a 170-centimeter (67-inch) sperm whale penis preserved in formaldehyde, lampshades made from bull testicles and what the museum described as an “unusually big” penis bone from a Canadian walrus.

Hjartarson, 69, said his interest in what he calls “phallology” began when, as a youngster in rural Iceland, he was given a whip made from a bull’s penis to help him herd cattle. Later, when he worked at a school near a whaling station, colleagues brought him whale penises as gifts.

“That was how it started. I opened this museum 15 years ago with 62 specimens,” he said. Now, with the addition of Arason’s organ, he has 276, many suspended in formaldehyde or dried and mounted on the walls.

If we’re not mistaken, this is the world’s largest collection of dicks outside of the United States Congress.

Rand Paul invokes Ayn Rand at Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee hearing

What’s not to like about Rand Paul? Here’s 2:56 of the newly-minted senator expressing the libertarian point of view on the nation’s idiotic new light bulb restrictions.

We admit we’re not the smartest guys in the world, which is why this thought never occurred to us until we watched this video clip. Ron Paul, a follower of Ayn Rand, obviously named his son after the libertarian philosopher and author. Duh.

What’s not to like about Rand Paul? Here’s 2:56 of the newly-minted senator expressing the libertarian point of view on the nation’s idiotic new light bulb restrictions.

“I would propose that we spend more time expanding our choices and less time banning light bulbs,” he concludes. “My amendment would make the energy efficiency standards consistent with choice and with a free society and would make them voluntary.”

Slowly they turned: Missouri’s Democrat attorney general joins lawsuit against ObamaCare

Missouri’s Democratic attorney general broke with his party on Monday and urged a federal judge to invalidate the central provision of the new health care law.

71% of the state voted against implementing ObamaCare last year. And the attorney general is running for reelection next year. Far be it from us to suggest that he jumped ship to preserve his own career, but…

Republican turned Democrat Chris Koster felt a little ill as he watched the election results in November

The New York Times ruefully reports the story:

Missouri’s Democratic attorney general broke with his party on Monday and urged a federal judge to invalidate the central provision of the new health care law.

The filing of the brief by Attorney General Chris Koster, a onetime Republican state legislator who switched to the Democratic Party in 2007, underscores the act’s political tenuousness in a critical Midwestern swing state.

Mr. Koster’s action followed months of pressure from state Republicans that he join attorneys general from other states who are challenging the constitutionality of the law.

Rather than join the litigation, however, Mr. Koster chose to file a “friend of the court” brief in the United States Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit, in Atlanta, which is reviewing one of five challenges to the act that have moved into the midlevel appellate courts.

Koster felt the earthquake in November, now he’s simply trying to get out of the way before the tsunami hits.

International Monetary Fund says Obama lacks “credible strategy” to stop mounting public debt

The IMF is worried that the geniuses in the Obama administration have no rational strategy to stop our piling up public debt that may trigger another worldwide economic crisis.

When the profligate leftists at the International Monetary Fund start to worry about a nation’s economy, you know there’s a problem.

money-hole
The black hole that is the American economy

But worried they are. Worried that the geniuses in the Obama administration have no rational strategy to stop our piling up public debt and that the policies they do have may trigger another worldwide economic crisis.

Financial Times has the depressing details:

In an unusually stern rebuke to its largest shareholder, the IMF said the US was the only advanced economy to be increasing its underlying budget deficit in 2011 at a time when its economy was growing fast enough to reduce borrowing.

To meet the 2010 pledge by the Group of 20 countries for all advanced economies – except Japan – to halve their deficits by 2013, the US would need to implement tougher austerity measures than in any two-year period since records began in 1960, the IMF said. In its twice-yearly Fiscal Monitor, the IMF added that on its current plans the US would join Japan as the only country with rising public debt in 2016, creating a risk for the global economy.

Carlo Cottarelli, head of fiscal affairs at the Fund, said: “It is a risk that if it materialises would have very important consequences … for the rest of the world. So it is important that the US undertakes fiscal adjustment in a way sooner rather than later.”

The only problem with the IMF’s assessment is that it ignores the distinct possibility that the Obama administration wants to trigger another global meltdown.

No?

Formerly well-known actress Kathleen Turner angry that Republicans want to defund Planned Parenthood

Our first thought on watching this video was, “Who?” Then we remembered when a young, slim, hot Kathleen Turner starred in movies like Body Heat and Romancing the Stone.

Our second thought was, “Wow. Get fat, lose career.”

Our third thought was, “Lay off the cigarettes, honey.”

Our fourth thought was, “We’re having trouble placing Kathleen’s accent. What country is she from?”

And our fifth and final thought was, “What’s with the hostess bimbo ending the interview with, ‘Love you’?”

But putting all that aside, turns out Kathleen Turner is very upset that those dastardly Republicans want to strip federal funding from that well-know abortion mill, Planned Parenthood. So she showed up on Good Morning America to explain what “most women in America” believe.

You’re excused now, Kathleen. Please return to obscurity.

Bobby Ghosh and Chuck Todd: Ignorance x ignorance = another typical day at MSNBC

Turns out mainstream journalists aren’t fighting the Judeo-Christian worldview – they simply don’t have a clue what “Judeo-Christian” means.

Many people wonder why mainstream journalists seem to be at war with Western civilization. Now we have the answer. Turns out they aren’t fighting the Judeo-Christian worldview – they simply don’t have a clue what “Judeo-Christian” means.

Chuck Todd, filling in for Chris Matthews on MSNBC’s Hardball, interviewed Time Magazine’s World Editor Bobby Ghosh, who tried to make excuses for Muslim murder rampages in the wake of the Florida Koran burning by explaining that burning the Koran is more “inflammatory” than burning a Bible:

“The Bible is a book written by men. It is acknowledged by Christians that it is written by men. It’s the story of Jesus.”

Actually, only the New Testament is the story of Jesus, Bobby, and the Bible is considered the Word of God, although Christians and Jews are open-minded enough to admit physically putting the words on paper. And by the way, Bobby, the Muslims apparently agree about the Word of God thing, because they borrowed most of the Old Testament for their Koran.

“If you’re a Muslim, the Koran is directly the word of God, not written by man. It is transcribed, it is directly the word of God. That makes it sacred in a way that it’s hard to understand if you’re not Muslim. So the act of burning a Koran is much more… potentially much, much more inflammatory than than if you were to burn a … burn a Bible.”

Naturally, the brain-dead Chuck Todd enthusiastically agreed, repeatedly interjecting the phrase “Directly attacking God, uh-huh, uh-huh” while Ghosh spoke.

While it’s mind-boggling that Time’s World Editor could be this ignorant about Christianity, the religion of one third of the world’s people, and that an American MSNBC reporter could be so uneducated about his own culture, even more mind-boggling is that they used the word “inflammatory” in a discussion about burning Korans and Bibles and didn’t laugh.

Monday: Obama announces reelection bid. Thursday: Poll says only 28% say they share his political views

President Obama this week declared his intention to seek reelection, but just over one-quarter of voters say they share the same political views as the president.

On Monday, President Obama officially threw his hat in the reelection ring and it sounded suspiciously like an old joke.

zombies-for-obama
Moonbats? Zombies? Doesn't matter. Both blocs vote solidly Democrat.

Man: Ask me what makes me so funny.
Woman: What makes you …
Man: Timing.

Because on Thursday Rasmussen released a new poll that made the reelection bid seem a bit quixotic:

President Obama this week declared his intention to seek reelection, but just over one-quarter of voters say they share the same political views as the president.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey of Likely Voters shows that 57% believe the president is more politically liberal than they are, while just nine percent (9%) say he is more conservative. Twenty-eight percent (28%) of voters say their political views are about the same as the president’s.

Of course, that’s just 28% of living voters. Democrat polls show that Obama’s political views are shared by 100% of dead voters, so he’s expected to cruise to an easy reelection victory.

A very John Kerry-like Barack Obama was against raising the debt limit before he was in favor of it. It’s all excusable, of course, because he was against it when George Bush was for it, which is like a Papal dispensation to Democrat flipfloppers.

The Associated Press tells the story of the President’s press secretary twisting himself into knots in an attempt to explain away the Presidential contradiction:

The White House says President Barack Obama regrets his vote as a senator in 2006 against raising the debt limit.

A fight over raising the debt limit is looming, and the White House is trying to explain away the apparent contradiction between Obama’s previous opposition, and his position now that it must be increased.

Press Secretary Jay Carney said Monday that Obama believes his vote was a mistake. He said Obama now realizes that the debt ceiling is too important to be trifled with.

Can we all accept this as an admission that he trifled with it back in 2006?

Seeing through liberal hocus pocus: 61% say enforcing immigration laws would cut poverty

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 61% of Adults say if immigration laws were enforced, there would be less poverty in America.

On one hand, liberals demand that we spend more money on education because they say that is the only path out of poverty. On the other hand, they refuse to enforce border laws and allow the nation to be flooded with poor, uneducated illegal aliens. And on the other other hand, they bemoan the fact that poverty is a terrible problem.

mexico-border-fence
This is what liberals call "climbing out of poverty." It's what conservatives call "skewing the stats."

Yet somehow our morally and intellectually superior liberal cousins never see the inherent conflict between those three issues.

The good news is that the American people see the issues very clearly:

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 61% of Adults say if immigration laws were enforced, there would be less poverty in America. Only 19% disagree with that assessment, while 20% are not sure.

The number of adults who feel there would be less poverty is up 16 points from early July 2007 when only 45% of Americans felt that way. At that time, 32% disagreed.

Seventy-seven percent (77%) of Republicans and 58% of adults not affiliated with either political party feel there would be less poverty if immigration laws were enforced, a view shared by just 48% of Democrats.

… Despite the billions of dollars spent on government anti-poverty programs, a majority of Americans nationwide still believe there are more poor people in the country today than there were 10 years ago. In fact, a plurality (45%) of adults thinks the current government anti-poverty programs actually increase poverty in America.

A majority of Likely U.S. Voters feel that the policies and practices of the federal government encourage illegal immigration. Most voters continue to favor strong sanctions on employers who hire illegal immigrants and landlords who rent to them. Voters also feel strongly that police should check the immigration status of drivers during routine traffic stops.

Fifty percent (50%) of adults say it’s too easy to qualify for welfare in the United States. At the same time, 41% of Americans think it’s too easy to get food stamps in this country now.

Obviously, if you remove 20,000,000 illegal aliens from the poverty rolls in the United States, the stats start to look a lot different and liberal positions on poverty, education, crime and welfare quickly begin falling apart.

Congratulations to Rasmussen for asking the question liberals don’t want asked to the American people for seeing through years of liberal hypocrisy.

How do you say WTF in Urdu?

The BBC has the details:

In a new effort to win hearts and minds in Pakistan, USAID — the development arm of the US government — is donating $20m (£12m) to the country to create a local Urdu version of the show.

The project aims to boost education in Pakistan, where many children have no access to regular schooling.

The show is to be filmed in Lahore and aired later in the year.

“The programme is part of a series of ventures that is aimed at developing the educational infrastructure in the country,” Virginia Morgan, a spokesperson for USAID, told the BBC.

“Education is one of the vital sectors that need help in Pakistan.”

The show will be set in a village in Pakistan — rather than the streets of New York — with roadside tea shop and residents sitting on their verandas.

The remake will star a puppet called Rani, the six-year-old daughter of a peasant farmer, with pigtails and a school uniform, according to Britain’s Guardian newspaper.

We can’t wait to see the hilarious antics of Osama the Grouch, The Zionist Cookie Monster, Bert & Emir, and Kermit the Suicide Bomber.

Alec Baldwin frets: The financial crisis has “crippled” Obama and kept him from “doing any new spending”

You won’t believe this one. Senator Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) and Rep. John Larson (D-Conn.) invited Alec Baldwin to Washington, DC to talk about campaign finance reform. (Unbeknownst to us, the actor has apparently developed an expertise on that subject in between screaming at his young daughter and shooting a ratings-challenged sitcom.)

Baldwin was asked if President Obama has lived up to his expectations. That’s when we learned that poor ol’ Obama just hasn’t been able to spend enough money.

CNS News reports Baldwin’s bizarre theory:

“Well, I mean, I think so because I think that when you come into office and you want to put your mark on things — this is just my opinion, when you want to put your mark on things, you want to be able to spend. And what’s crippled Obama’s administration, as far as I’m concerned, is the financial crisis and it’s prevented him from doing any new spending,” said Baldwin, who publicly supported Obama in the 2008 Presidential election.

“He’s not able –- if the country was as flush as it was under Bill Clinton and he had money — these things cost money — he could have made more of a mark,” said Baldwin. “I think right now he’s had to do a lot of counter-punching; a lot of back peddling. He inherited this crisis from Bush and Paulson. He had to extend the TARP. I think it’s been very difficult for him to spend his whole first term trying to, you know, correct our course financially. I think a second term of Obama, we’ll see a lot more of what we want to see from him.”

Obama and Baldwin are perfect together. One can’t speak without a Teleprompter, the other shouldn’t speak without a script.

TheHill.com reports Brown’s retail therapy:

According to an email from Brown’s scheduler titled, “Outing with Congresswoman Corrine Brown,” staff member Cathy Gass invited Brown’s fellow female Congressional Black Caucus members to join the lawmaker at a boutique in Crystal City, Va. on Wednesday afternoon.

According to the email, which was addressed to “CBC Schedulers,” Brown “would like to invite the woman [sic] CBC Members to go shopping with her at Daniel’s Boutique this afternoon after votes.

Please let me know if your Member is interested and I will inform the Congresswoman.”

Gass also suggests that for members who “would like to share [their] dress size, the boutique can pull some items for them to have available once they arrive.”

For those unfamiliar with the ultra high-end service, pulling clothes that a client might like before they arrive is better known as personal shopping.

According to the shop’s website, Daniel’s Boutique was founded in 1988 and “specializes in wardrobe consulting and custom tailoring.”

A visit to the boutique’s website revealed plenty of the skirt and jacket combinations popular with lawmakers.

Don’t you hate it when you agree with an Iranian madman, Part II: Ahmadinejad sees embarrassing end for Obama

This is the second time in two weeks that we’ve found ourselves agreeing with an Iranian madman about President Obama.

We hope this isn’t the beginning of a trend, but it is the second time in two weeks that we’ve found ourselves agreeing with an Iranian madman. Last week is was Ayatollah Khamenei, this week it’s Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Don't you hate it when a madman makes more sense than your president?

Iran’s FarsNews has the details:

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad blasted the US administration for its deceitful policies, and warned that US President Barack Obama will have to face an end far more embarrassing than what his predecessor, George W. Bush, encountered.

… Stating his interpretation of the Obama policy, Ahmadinejad said that the difference between Bush and Obama lies in the fact that the current US president uses force and at the same time deception and conspiracy unlike Bush who clearly resorted to weapon and military action to save the capitalistic system.

As regards the future of the US administration, the Iranian president stated, “I believe that he (Bush) left the scene of politics with shame, but his successor (Obama) will have to leave the scene of politics with much more shame because of his resort to both force and deception.”

We’re still awaiting Ahmadinejad’s comments on Obama’s foreign policy.

Based on an interview with Hearst Magazines, Barack Obama mistakenly thought he was running for President of his neighborhood Rotary Club instead of President of the United States.

It was, apparently, a huge surprise when he woke up one day in the White House and discovered that he was the most powerful man in the world and bore the burdens that come with that job.

Millions of Americans are eager to help President Obama achieve his dream of walking in the park anonymously

The Columbus Dispatch has the tear-jerking story (more jerk, assuredly, than tears):

“I just miss — I miss being anonymous,” he said at the meeting in the White House. “I miss Saturday morning, rolling out of bed, not shaving, getting into my car with my girls, driving to the supermarket, squeezing the fruit, getting my car washed, taking walks. I can’t take a walk.”

He says he enjoys golf but is not the fanatic that some have portrayed.

“It’s the only excuse I have to get outside for four hours at a stretch,” he said.
His impossible dream: “I just want to go through Central Park (in New York) and watch folks passing by . . . spend the day watching people. I miss that.”

According to the latest polls, there are huge numbers of Americans who can’t wait until his dream comes true.

The American people’s love affair with Barack Obama cooled off a long time ago. Now he’s losing even his most ardent liberal admirers, too.

Rasmussen has details of the downward trajectory:

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Monday shows that 19% of the nation’s voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as president. Thirty-nine percent (39%) Strongly Disapprove, giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -20.

Today’s numbers reflect the lowest level of Strong Approval yet recorded for this president. There has been a sharp decline in enthusiasm among liberal voters.

Currently, just 37% of liberals Strongly Approve of the president’s performance. That’s down from 63% a year ago, 57% at the beginning of 2011, and 52% a week ago. Some liberal commentators have expressed disappointment with the president over the extension of the Bush tax cuts, the military action in Libya, and, most recently, the budget deal to avert a partial shutdown of the federal government. While liberal enthusiasm may be declining, 57% of voters believe the president is more liberal than they are.

As if things aren’t bad enough for the President, he’s going to give a speech to the nation on Wednesday night in which he explains that his solution to the debt crisis is to raise taxes.

In the words of Dandy Don Meredith, “Turn out the lights, the party’s over.”

2010 census reveals truths liberals don’t want to hear

Why are some states growing and other states lagging? Don’t ask the liberals, because they’re busy covering their ears and saying, “La-la-la-la-la-la” to avoid hearing the truths revealed in the 2010 census.

Michael Barone explains the economic facts of life at Investors.com:

cover-ears
Cover your ears, liberals. You're not going to like what the 2010 census has to say.

The eight states with no state income tax grew 18% in the last decade. The other states (including the District of Columbia) grew just 8%.

The 22 states with right-to-work laws grew 15% in the last decade. The other states grew just 6%.

The 16 states where collective bargaining with public employees is not required grew 15% in the last decade. The other states grew 7%.

If we’re not mistaken, this is what’s called a trend.

Meanwhile, Democrat strongholds like California, New York and Illinois are engaged in a race to see which state can be first to declare itself insolvent.

And we believe this is what’s called another trend.

That morning, movie and TV producers can drop off applications for a share of $100 million in annual state tax credits for productions that meet certain requirements and shoot in the state during the year.

What’s the rush? “We will exhaust all $100 million in tax breaks on June 1st,” Amy Lemisch, executive director of the California Film Commission said Friday morning at a commission meeting and breakfast for producers in Los Angeles.

In other words, the entire amount allocated by the state legislature for the year will be spoken for the first day that applications are accepted. Actually, more productions will seek tax breaks than is available for the year on that one day.

The only way this seems to make sense is if the entire state of California is now living in LaLaLand. It’s one giant horror movie produced, directed and inflicted on the state’s residents by Hollywood. None of it is real.

It’s like The Truman Show in real life and if a resident of California can escape to another state, he’ll find out he’s lived their entire life on one big movie set.

Are you overtaxed? 64% of Americans say yes, political class says no

Interesting, isn’t it, that most Americans think they’re overtaxed, but that the political class doesn’t?

Interesting, isn’t it, that most Americans think they’re overtaxed, but that the political class doesn’t?

Rasmussen reports on the taxing situation:

Roughly two-out-of-three voters think Americans are overtaxed, and nearly as many say any federal tax increase should be subject to a vote by the American people. Complicating things for would-be budget cutters, however, is the belief by even more that any changes in Social Security and Medicare also should be voted on by the public.

Funny that those who pay the taxes think they're overburdened, but those who live off the taxes disagree

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 64% of Likely U.S. Voters believe America is overtaxed. Twenty-four percent (24%) disagree, and 11% are undecided.,,

This is virtually unchanged from this time last year.

But the Political Class strongly disagrees. While 79% of Mainstream voters think Americans are overtaxed, 87% of those in the Political Class don’t share that assessment.

Unfortunately, we think the wording of Rasmussen’s question was problematic. “Are Americans overtaxed?” was almost guaranteed to get a different answer than “Are you overtaxed?” Especially within the political class.

The first option allows the respondent to talk about some vague, unidentified, amorphous group. You know, the little people in flyover country who wave the flag and obey the law and work hard for a living.

The second option goes directly to the individual respondent’s wallet. And we’re willing to be that the political class thinks they are personally overtaxed, but that all those other so-called Americans don’t pay their fair share.
