John B. Miller, a scientist for the U.S National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration spoke at a global warming rally and eco-wacko extravaganza back in October 2009. That’s where he announced that the “master variable” of climate change is population control. Oh, we beg your pardon. Not just population control, but population reduction.
I’d be remiss, as a scientist who studied this, if I didn’t mention the following two things.
The first is that, most importantly, we need to do, as a society, in this country and globally, whatever we can to reduce population. [Cheers, applause] It’s the “master variable” that controls everything [shouts of “That’s right.”].
And what I mean by this is not just in the developing world where it’s a known fact that empowered women have been a proven strategy to make healthier, wealthier and smaller families. [More cheers, more applause] But additionally and especially in our country and other developed countries, we have a population problem, because our per capita emissions are higher than anybody. Yet we continue to have – and this is true in every industrialized country – lots of tax benefits, encouragements to have more and more.
Our whole economic philosophy is based on growth, and growth of our population, and this madness has to end.
We assume that Miller will be the one deciding who stays and who goes and that his name will not be high on the list of those going.
Former U.S. Senator and current candidate for Chicago Mayoral Carol Moseley Braun has refused to release her tax returns. And her reasoning is just so, so Chicago: She doesn’t want to. So there.
Some words just seem to go together. Like red, white and blue. Stars and stripes. Chicago and corruption.
Carol for Chicago: All Braun, no brain
Former U.S. Senator and current candidate for Chicago Mayoral Carol Moseley Braun has refused to release her tax returns. And her reasoning is just so, so Chicago: She doesn’t want to. So there.
The Chicago Tribune has the story:
Mayoral candidate Carol Moseley Braun today said she won’t make her tax returns public before next month’s election.
“Because I don’t want to,” Braun said when asked why she wouldn’t be releasing them in the time before the Feb. 22 election.
Fellow candidates Rahm Emanuel and Gery Chico already have released their tax returns … City Clerk Miguel del Valle, a mayoral candidate, also has released his returns.
We blame it on her parents.
“C’mon, little Carol, eat your spinach.”
“I don’t want to.”
“OK, little Carol. If you don’t want to, you don’t have to.”

The Saudis captured this Israeli spy, but so far he has refused to talk
The Daily Mail UK has details of Israel’s avian James Bond:
A vulture tagged by scientists at Tel Aviv University has strayed into Saudi Arabian territory, where it was promptly arrested on suspicion of being a Mossad spy, Israeli and Saudi media reported Tuesday.
The bird was found in a rural area of the country wearing a transmitter and a leg bracelet bearing the words ‘Tel Aviv University’, according to the reports, which surfaced first in the Israeli daily Ma’ariv.
Although these tags indicate that the bird was part of a long-term research project into migration patters, residents and local reporters told Saudi Arabia’s Al-Weeam newspaper that the matter seemed to be a ‘Zionist plot.’
The accusations went viral, with hundreds of posts on Arabic-language websites and forums claiming that the ‘Zionists’ had trained these birds for espionage.
Please allow us to start a new rumor: The Israelis have also trained a flock of parakeets to fly into Saudi Arabia, sit in the trees and screech at men walking by, “I saw your wife without her burqa. She reminds me of a camel I once rode across the desert.”
Is there nothing too evil for those damn Zionists?
While decoding old Civil War messages is fine and dandy, the highly-trained cryptologists at IHateTheMedia.com have spent thousands of man-hours working on a batch of more recent messages.
A small glass bottle had been in a Vicksburg, Mississippi museum since 1896. It was opened recently and the handwritten message inside was finally decoded by the CIA.
The Telegraph UK has the details:
The glass vial stopped with a cork contained a coded missive to Lt Gen John C Pemberton, who was besieged in the Mississippi city by Union forces led by Ulysses S Grant.
After nearly six weeks people in Vicksburg had resorted to eating cats, dogs and leather, and making soup from wallpaper paste.
The encrypted, six line message was dated July 4, 1863, the date of Pemberton’s surrender, and would have offered no hope to him. It said: “You can expect no help from this side of the river.”
The source of the message is thought to have been Maj Gen John G. Walker, of the Texas Division.
Pemberton had also held out hope that General Joseph E Johnston, and his 32,000 Confederate troops camped south of Vicksburg, would eventually come to his aid, but Walker’s message made clear that was not going to happen.
While decoding old Civil War messages is fine and dandy, the highly-trained cryptologists at IHateTheMedia.com have spent thousands of man-hours working on a batch of more recent messages. We are proud to announce that we have broken the complex code in which they were written.
Social scientists believe the original messages were written by Barry Soetoro, a Kenyan-born double agent, to his evil Hungarian overlord, George Soros.
Original messaage/decoded message
“Hope and change.” “I have no real experience, so this meaningless froth will have to do.”
“Smart power.” “Weak power.”
“I will close Guantanamo.” “I will not close Guantanamo.”
“I will pull the troops out of Iraq within 16 months.” “Except the ones I don’t.”
“I will repeal the Bush tax cuts for people earning $250,000 a year or more.” “I will be in favor of income redistribution until I’m against it.”
“The more people get to know about my national healthcare plan, the more they will love it.” “It will be more popular than gonorrhea, but less popular than genital warts.”
“No more earmarks.” “More earmarks.”
“No more lobbyists in the White House.” “Ignore the word ‘more.’”
“I will secure the Borders.” “And then I will secure the Barnes & Noble.”
“All bills will be posted online for five days so that people can see what is in them.” “On second thought, it’s just a whole bunch of boring legalese, so why bother?”
“I will create 5,000,000 green jobs.” “No one actually knows what a green job is, so maybe I’ll change that to 10,000,000.”
“I will negotiate with our enemies with no preconditions.” “I’m bending over. Be gentle, Mahmoud.”
“I will begin a new relationship with the Muslim world.” “How low should I bow to the King of Saudi Arabia?”
President Obama gave that dandy speech in Cairo. He promised that relations with the Muslim world would be cozier than Barney Frank in a bathhouse. And we’re pretty sure he said he’d usher in an era of dancing girls for us and dancing boys for the Afghanis.

Afghan President Hamid Karzai explains to American reporters that the thing on his head is a traditional Afghan chapeau, not a dunce cap
Hmmm. If that’s the case, then why is Afghan President Hamid Karzai pining away for the good ol’ days of the Bush administration?
The Huffington Post has the details of Hamid’s heartbreak:
Longing for the early years of the Bush administration, Afghan President Hamid Karzai has been consumed by anti-U.S. conspiracy theories, convinced American officials are now working against him, according to a diplomatic cable from the U.S. ambassador to Afghanistan.
The cable was sent in July 2009, which would become the deadliest month for foreign troops since the 2001 invasion. The surge in casualties resulted from an offensive to oust the Taliban in opium-rich Helmand Province, as well as the increasing power of roadside bombs. On July 7, when Amb. Karl Eikenberry met with Karzai, the Afghan president was looking backward rather than forward, wistfully longing for the early days of the Bush administration, which he referred to as a “golden age.”
“Karzai then returned to a familiar theme, his wish for Afghan-U.S. relations to recover the spirit of 2002-04 — a period Karzai sees as a ‘golden age’ in the relationship,” wrote Eikenberry in a July 16 cable obtained by WikiLeaks and published by The New York Times. “He would like for U.S. forces to again be able to drive their humvees through villages, greeted warmly by villagers who would shout, ‘Good morning, Sergeant Thompson.’ Karzai claimed, as he has many times, that his concern over the erosion of public trust in the U.S. was a driving factor in his increasingly strident criticism regarding civilian casualties, night raids and detentions.”
But … but … but … how can this be? Muslims hated Bush. They hated America. They hated the Great Satan worse than anything but Israel.
Why if we didn’t know better we might think the media had misled us.
Say, we like the cut of this Boehner fellow’s jib. He has gumption. Spunk. Balls the size of Michelle’s ass.
Say, we like the cut of this Boehner fellow’s jib. He has gumption. Spunk. Balls the size of Michelle’s ass.
Boehner's response to the Democrats was a hearty, "Cry me a friggin' river, losers."
The Hill has the details:
Incoming House Speaker John Boehner’s office (R-Ohio) pointedly vowed on Tuesday to push ahead with legislation repealing healthcare reform.
Boehner’s office responded to a letter sent by the Senate’s top five Democrats, vowing to block a House bill repealing health reform, with a terse, 65-word note.
Boehner’s office wrote:
Senators Reid, Durbin, Schumer, Murray and Stabenow:
Thank you for reminding us – and the American people – of the backroom deal that you struck behind closed doors with ‘Big Pharma,’ resulting in bigger profits for the drug companies, and higher prescription drug costs for 33 million seniors enrolled in Medicare Part D, at a cost to the taxpayers of $42.6 billion.
The House is going to pass legislation to repeal that now. You’re welcome.
– Speaker-Designate John Boehner’s Press Office
The note comes in response to a letter released on Monday by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s (D-Nev.) office, in which the Democrats promise to block a bill repealing benefits within the healthcare law.
Boehner sealed the envelope with tears from his latest crying jag.
At her final press conference as House Speaker, Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said, “Deficit reduction has been a high priority for us. It is our mantra, pay-as-you-go.” The numbers tell a different story.
The word “shameless” comes to mind. But then so do the words “lying sack of excrement.”
FOX Nation has the details of Nancy Pelosi’s clumsy attempt to rewrite history:
At her final press conference as House Speaker, Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said, “Deficit reduction has been a high priority for us. It is our mantra, pay-as-you-go.”
The numbers tell a different story.
When the Pelosi Democrats took control of Congress on January 4, 2007, the national debt stood at $8,670,596,242,973.04. The last day of the 111th Congress and Pelosi’s Speakership on December 22, 2010 the national debt was $13,858,529,371,601.09 – a roughly $5.2 trillion increase in just four years. Furthermore, the year over year federal deficit has roughly quadrupled during Pelosi’s four years as speaker, from $342 billion in fiscal year 2007 to an estimated $1.6 trillion at the end of fiscal year 2010.
There’s an old saying, Nancy, that history is written by the winners. You, unfortunately, are the loser so you have been officially stripped of the golden quill and magic ink well with which the last decade’s history will be written.

Believe it or not, though, not everyone loves us. In fact, some people hate us. Detest us. Abhor us. So we thought we’d share our favorite hate mail of 2010 as found in comments or sent to our Hate Mail page.
You seem to specialize in farting in buckets.
You people are a bunch of ignorant a-holes.
It’s a sad day when people like you and your writers write such
unabated bullshit… White citizens are the past..,America is now a
mixed country of immigrants who work harder than you do for less
wages… Don’t like it..!?? Too bad!… So just keep your heads up
your asses…,the world wouldn’t want you to change..,that would be
too mature for your caliber of people…
It’s funny how all the stereotypes about crazy republicans are actually true. On this blog you get it all: people talking about how we NEED guns, lots of people puffing out their chests without anything constructive to say, hanging on to religion like it’s something actually tangible. Keep it up guys, it’s funny stuff!
You conservatives are a bunch of hypocritical poosies. You love the hell out of Marco’s immigrant “Cuban exile” story, but then turn around and demonize immigrants and call the Dream Act amnesty … Mother friggin hypocritical … @ Ray you’re a stupid dickhead and your picture is ugly … @Kimmy Queen … F * C K YOOOOOOOOOU! … Bla bla bla liberal this and that
"This site is a real hoot, what a bunch of neanderthalic cretins."
If I was a faithful reader of this site, I would question why someone who I am a fan of would be so misleading. I don’t trust liars and purposely try to keep liars out of my life.
Good show, hypocrites.
You and your bullshit blog are a joke.
Ironically, this site is called “I hate the media,” yet the post employs the worst media tricks to make Obama look bad.
This post was too freaking stupid to warrant a response until the last point … you make me sick.
"I want to harm you ... I will find you and break your legs."
I think ultimately it was a mistake to come here. No one here wants to do anything but sling mud and lies. The moderator seems to be an ass who does not want to admit any of the oppositions points.
Wow. You are really a piece of work (pronounced shit FYI) … I spit it in your face asshole
You are all a bunch of sad, racist little haters who stand against our President because he’s not white. Everything else is smoke and mirrors at the core you hate him because he’s Black. period. End of story.
Fortunately the vast Majority of Americans are better than you and we will continue to grow and prosper while you and the hate you so readily embody will die out like typewriters as a thing of the past.
You all sound like a little KKK Klub to me.
You people are a bunch of ignorant a-holes. Obama has had to fix the MESS left behind by the biggest retard to ever live in the White House. You right wing assholes made a mess and he has to clean it up.
this website is so productive i just cant believe how much it accomplishes. great job everyone, lets just point fingers and bitch
"I disapprove of Obama, yet I hate this website and everything it stands for."
What was once a fun and reasoned respite from the lame-stream, is now a degraded bipolar mess of wingnut vitriol. Such a pity.Love all the Internet Tough Guys on here. So safe hidden behind your keyboard, while you watch Fox News in your bleached white Fruit of the Loom underwear. You’re all so freaking sad.Enough of this site, forever. Proves the racism, sexism, classism, and ignorance, et al that I was afraid was at the core of the mid-terms all along.
Its so funny to see all you delusional conservative Republicans squirm now that you’re out of power (again). Your policies never work, inevitably lead to ruin for the country, and then we Democrats have to take control and make everything right. Why don’t you do everyone on the planet a big favor and just stay out on the golf courses, telling racist jokes to each other and leave the business of running the country to people who know how to do it.
You people are assholes
Here’s a beating dude, and a legit one, if you even remotely, for even a moment, believe the ridiculous right wing propaganda that there is such a thing as “liberal media bias” then you rank as one of stupidest people ever to walk the earth. You obviously don’t even understand the definitions of liberal and conservative, you obviously have no clue what the actual spectrum of political thought and opinion is, and you obviously have no clue about who is actually presenting you the “news,” what their agenda is, what the results of their efforts have been, or what the actual news is that they either report on misleadingly or censor and don’t report on at all or rarely. You are indeed a f**king idiot!
In fact, my point is, that you all should know that I am monitoring this site daily and reading every new comment. The ‘editor’ may be able to block my comments but he/she cannot block my access to viewing this and I am watching very closely for veiled threats.
I am warning all visitors to this site right here and now that if I hear any more veiled threats, I am forwarding them directly to the FBI and DHS, as I have already previously done, and I am ppretty certain the editor knows of which comment(s) I refer to as he/she responded when I noted it.
You have been warned.
As for the people that run this site, I am sure you are aware that if you are served an FBI security certificate you will be unable to warn your posters or discuss that event with *anyone* under threat of federal prosecution.
Keep in mind that the new focus of the DHS is teabagger-terrorists, militia, right-wing hate sites, racist groups and bloggers and gun freaks.
Keep it clean folks, or you may find yourself under the watchful eye of the NSA or the FBI and you will not know it.
Criticism and insults are one thing (guilty myself) but anything remotely resembling a potential threat is going straight to the newly-saved FBI email address in my contacts database.
How about juvenile petty and, trite, for openers?
"Unremarkable prattle would be the purview of the blog’s purveyor and feeble-minded fans."
I would get into the ridiculous assertions the article makes, but I have to question your intellectual capacity given the many errors which make the blog nearly unreadable – it’s not worth the effort it would take to dismiss your hopelessly regressive, outdated, and out of touch arguments. I will accept your money, though – email me if you’re hiring an editor; I could do it in my spare time in the evenings, and I could sure use some new kitchen appliances for my RV.I guess it’s easier to fire off an inaccurate but blistering polemic than to carefully research and flesh out an argument and write thoughtful and meaningful points and counterpoints. It seems like you’re engaging in many of the same practices that cause you to hate ‘the media’ – as long as it’s entertaining, forcefully written using the latest political buzzwords, and you *sound* like you know what you’re talking about because you’re so adamant, that’s more important than actual facts and correctly spelling basic scientific measurements and temperature scales, right?
Not to sound smug or anything…but you are media so do you hate yourself? if so why would you bother showing yourself online…it would only make things worse for you. Also the media if the means through which you convey the message so i guess the question is do you hate the internet? If so why are you online? Whats wrong with you?
So please change your name. You Love the media. If you loved the media you would prescribe to just as rigorous of fact checking you do on liberals and “the liberal media” as you would against the “conservative media.” By endorsing this man and the same propaganda from Fox News you are just as disingenuous and irrational as the socialists and liberals you rail against. It is very sad. Edward R. Murrow hates you. I’m just disappointed by your name. Was hoping this would resemble a more reasonable rational view of events and politics. Enlighten yourselves and read. Read some Emmanuel Kant.
Border fences are terrible things – racist things, really – when they’re built by the United States and Israel. But when they’re built by Greece and Spain, well, that’s a whole different kettle of racists.
Border fences are terrible things – racist things, really – when they’re built by the United States and Israel. But when they’re built by Greece and Spain, well, that’s a whole different kettle of racists.
Spanish Guardia Civil patrolling the border fence between Ceuta and Morocco
The BBC has the story of Greece’s new non-racist, really necessary border fence:
The proposed fence would cover a short section of the Greece-Turkey border in the Orestiada area of north-eastern Greece.
The area has become the main route into Greece for migrants from Africa and Asia with an average of 245 people crossing illegally every day in October 2010, according to Frontex, the EU’s border agency.
The European Commissioner for Home Affairs, Cecilia Malmstroem, has said the numbers are “dramatic”.
In a statement, Mr Papoutsis said Greece could “no longer tolerate this”.
“Greek society has exceeded its limit in its capacity to accommodate illegal immigrants,” he said.
“This is the hard reality and we have an obligation to the Greek citizen to deal with it.”
He said the Greek coastguard would also be upgraded and modernised to tackle illegal migration.
But Greece, it turns out, isn’t the only European nation trying to keep the swarthy masses from its shores. Spain has also built fences to protect its African enclaves of Melilla and Cueta.
What’s that? You didn’t know that Spain still occupied land on the African continent? Neither did we until we began researching this story. Fact is, Spain has occupied Mellila and Ceuta, two cities sitting on the Mediterranean, but otherwise surrounded by Morroco, since the 1500s and refuses to give them up. Consider them the Spanish versions of Gibraltar.
As you might imagine, Spain quickly turns its back on socialism and the brotherhood of man when it comes to Melilla and Ceuta. Just won’t do, you know, to have those North African huddled masses yearning to be free entering Spain through its two African enclaves. So Spain has done what any rational nation would do – they built fences – fences topped with razor wire, which, as you might imagine, is razor sharp. Despite the fact that you’ve never heard a word about these fences, they were first built in the early 1990s and have been strengthened and improved since then in an attempt to restrict illegal immigration.
Yet no one except, perhaps, Morocco and Turkey, stands up at the U.N. to protest these border fences. No, those noisy protests are reserved for the evil, racist Israeli and American border fences and the equally evil, racist Israelis and Americans who deprive undocumented aliens of their rights by building them.
Why if we weren’t such firm believers in the sanctity of the United Nations, we might think there is a little selective outrange going on here.
If we’re not mistaken, new Florida Representative Allen West is going to make the Congressional Black Caucus very nervous. He’ll probably make the Congressional White Caucus nervous, too.
If we’re not mistaken, new Florida Representative Allen West is going to make the Congressional Black Caucus very nervous. He’ll probably make the Congressional White Caucus nervous, too. Oh, what’s that? There is no Congressional White Caucus because that would be raaaacist? Hmmmmm.
Well, nevertheless, he told Fox News’ Chris Wallace that “This liberal progressive agenda is the antithesis of who we are as a nation.”
This, of course, will come as no surprise to anyone except those to promote the liberal-progressive agenda. No matter what caucus they’re in.
If someone tells you there’s been a massive increase in hate crimes against Muslims in New York, remember the old saying, “There are lies, damn lies and statistics.”
If someone tells you there’s been a massive increase in hate crimes against Muslims in New York, remember the old saying, “There are lies, damn lies and statistics.”
Muslims Against Hate, the only group smaller than the Society of French War Heroes
The New York Post has the latest statistics:
Did you hear about the surge in hate crimes in New York? Bias against Muslims is the driving force, proving what a horribly victimized minority they are.
Just kidding.
Hate crimes are up 14 percent across the state, but those against Muslims are a tiny fraction. Of the 683 reported to police in 2009, only 11 targeted Muslims. Yes, 11. In 2008, there were eight.
Compare that with the 251 against Jews, or 37 percent of the total. Anti-black crimes were down slightly, to 144, or 21 percent of the total.
The biggest rise was in crimes against gays, from 70 to 107.
Look for the liberal media to lament the horrid 37.5% increase in hate crimes against Muslims. And look for rational media outlets to note that those crimes increased from an almost invisible eight to a merely miniscule eleven.
Alex Parene of Salon.com claims that the reason George Bush’s book has sold so well is that people just hate him so darn much.
You know the “peak oil” theory espoused by environmentalists? It says the world’s oil reserves have peaked and we’re now faced with an ever dwindling supply.
Unfortunately, there seems to be no such thing as “peak idiocy.” Because MSNBC has what appears to be an endless supply of boneheads they can march out to make inane comments.
Like, for example, Alex Parene of Salon.com, who claims that the reason George Bush’s book has sold so well is that people just hate him so darn much.
The corollary to this theory, we suppose, was that Bill Clinton’s book sold fewer copies because people liked him so darn much.
Upon closer examination it looks like California AB97 bans those pesky trans fats everywhere except public school cafeterias.
First Lady Michelle Antoinette is on the warpath against trans fats. She wants to spend billions of dollars building salad bars in more than 6,000 public schools. Of course, she’s doing it for the chiiiiiildren.
"Mmmmmm. I'd like a big plate of AB-97 exemptions for lunch."
The First Lady should be pleased to know that a new California bill, AB-97, that went into effect on January 1 bans trans fats throughout the state.
Whoa. Wait just a minute, Michelle. Upon closer examination it looks like AB97 bans those pesky trans fats everywhere except public school cafeterias.
The only other exemption is pre-packaged foods. You know, like Twinkies and Doritos and those tasty fruit pies and stuff sold in vending machines, which, if we’re not mistaken, account for a high percentage of the foods sold in public school cafeterias that aren’t served by old ladies wearing hairnets.
This could lead to a smackdown between the First Lady and Governor Moonbeam. And as California residents we can say with a high degree of certainty that we’re pretty sure the First Lady can kick the Governor’s ass.
Of course, we’re also pretty confident that the old ladies in the hairnets can also kick the Governor’s ass.
Here’s AB97 for your reading and dining pleasure. Chow down, kids! Trans fats for everyone!
Even though we know Hartmann is a lunatic lib, we’re still surprised that he would do a TV show for the Russians.
Much to our surprise, former Air America host and left wing lunatic Thom Hartmann is a fan of IHateTheMedia.com. Well, that may be overstating it just a tad, but he is a fan of one particular IHTM story.
Liberal Thom Hartmann loves conservative IHateTheMedia.com. Sort of.
A couple weeks ago we did a story called The Encounter. It was a parody – a tale of an enhanced TSA pat down disguised as softcore porn.
The Encounter got picked up by a lot of other websites and got a lot of attention.
Rich Albeen, the guy who wrote it, is an old friend of the Editor. Rich was amused when he received his own story in an email from another friend. Then he was enraged when someone else was credited as its author at the bottom of that email. Rich’s son was so irked that he took it upon himself to send an email to or leave a comment on every site that carried it without crediting IHateTheMedia.com and his dad.
Now back to Thom Hartmann. Apparently he has a TV show. A writer for that show tracked down the author The Encounter and the following exchange of emails took place:

Hi Mr. Albeen –
I’m a writer for the Big Picture with Thom Hartmann – a TV Show on RT America.
I’ve been trying to track the origin of this piece:
“He grasped me firmly but gently just above my elbow and guided me into a room, his room. Then he quietly shut the door and we were alone…”
And it seems like it traces back to a post your (sic) wrote on IHateMedia.com back in November – is that correct? Or did you get it from someone else as well?Any info would be great.
Thanks,
Sam Sacks

Sam,
I wrote the piece, originally titled The Encounter, for my friend … who owns and runs the website www.ihatethemedia.com.
The piece appeared in November.
(The Editor) and I have been friends for years. I’m a professional writer, and (he) asked me to do a piece on the current spate of TSA complaints for his satiric, parody-ish site. I agreed. It was fun.
I never knew it would have the impact that it evidently has. So, in short, I wrote the piece, it was entertaining, and the rest is, well, as you know.
Does this help?

That’s helps a lot Rich – we really got a kick out of it over here and are thinking about using it in a piece on the show…just wanted to give credit to whoever originally wrote – you.
So thanks for the info.

Here’s what Thom Hartmann’s The Big Picture program did with our story. We appreciate the newly-shorn Hartmann’s outstanding reading (he had just the proper degree of quiver in his voice) and the finely-acted final scene. Of course, it would have been nice if he had actually mentioned IHateTheMedia.com, but you can’t win ’em all.
We’re hit whores here at IHateTheMedia.com and we don’t care if Hartman’s a big lib. Our assumption is that almost anyone, regardless of political leanings, would find The Encounter funny. We’d love to have his lefty viewers come over here and leave their loony comments.
But we did wonder about Thom Hartmann’s TV show. We’d never heard of The Big Picture nor a television network called RT America, so we went to the website indicated on Sam Sacks’ email.
rttvamerica.com immediately refers over to another site, rt.com.
RT.com seemed to have a lot of Russian content, so we went to the bottom of the homepage where we found a copyright that said, “TV-Novosti.”
We googled TV-Novosti and found out that it is the Russian state-owned news agency. Here’s how Wikipedia describes it:
Russian International News Agency (RIA Novosti) is a Russian state-owned news agency based in the capital Moscow.
… By a decree of USSR President Mikhail Gorbachev, “On the Establishment of the Information Agency Novosti,” the Information Agency Novosti (IAN) succeeded APN on July 27, 1990. “To provide information support for the USSR’s state domestic and foreign policies and proceeding from the interests of the democratization of the mass media,” the Novosti Press Agency was renamed the Information Agency Novosti (IAN). IAN’s tasks remained the same – preparing and publishing printed, TV and radio materials in the USSR and abroad; studying public opinion on Soviet foreign and domestic policies in the USSR and abroad.”
So the question is, why does Thom Hartmann, an extreme liberal radio talk show host, do a TV show produced by the Russian state-owned network?
The guy’s radio show has about a dozen listeners on a good day, so we’re not surprised that no American TV network is willing to offer him his own show. (Sure, we know that Rachel Maddow came out of AirAmerica, but she had that lesbian thing working for her. Hartmann doesn’t have that advantage).
Call us naïve, but even though we know Hartmann is a lunatic lib, we’re still surprised that he would do a TV show for the Russians. Obviously, his political philosophy is aligned more closely to that of the leftist dictatorship than it is to that of the American people, but what the hey? Do they not even try to hide it anymore?
Only in America, we suppose, would a failed liberal talk show host be given a TV show on a TV network run by an enemy of America.
Barack Obama is alarmed – alarmed, we tell you – that Pakistan is treating Taliban prisoners harshly instead of giving them all the rights they’re guaranteed under the American constitution.
Hello. Knock, knock, knock. Earth to President Obama. Apparently the Commander In Chief’s experience with Gitmo prisoners was not enough to teach him any real world lessons.
Taliban prisoners in Pakistan. Where's Michael Vick when you need him?
Now he is alarmed – alarmed, we tell you – that Pakistan is treating Taliban prisoners harshly instead of giving them all the rights they’re guaranteed under the American constitution.
The New York Times has the news of the constitutional scholar’s dismay:
The Obama administration is expressing alarm over reports that thousands of political separatists and captured Taliban insurgents have disappeared into the hands of Pakistan’s police and security forces, and that some may have been tortured or killed.
The issue came up in a State Department report to Congress last month that urged Pakistan to address this and other human rights abuses. It threatens to become the latest source of friction in the often tense relationship between the wartime allies.
The concern is over a steady stream of accounts from human rights groups that Pakistan’s security services have rounded up thousands of people over the past decade, mainly in Baluchistan, a vast and restive province far from the fight with the Taliban, and are holding them incommunicado without charges. Some American officials think that the Pakistanis have used the pretext of war to imprison members of the Baluch nationalist opposition that has fought for generations to separate from Pakistan. Some of the so-called disappeared are guerrillas; others are civilians.
“Hundreds of cases are pending in the courts and remain unresolved,” said the Congressionally mandated report that the State Department sent to Capitol Hill on Nov. 23. A Congressional official provided a copy of the eight-page, unclassified document to The New York Times.
Separately, the report also described concerns that the Pakistani military had killed unarmed members of the Taliban, rather than put them on trial.
They killed members of the Taliban rather than put them on trial? Quick. Some alert Eric Holder.
You live under an oppressive leftist dictatorship. You escape. You finally make it to America. You look at the two major parties and decide to join one rather than the other. Why would that be?

Those who've lived under Communism erect statues to Ronald Reagan, not Democrats.
SILive.com has the Republican ramifications:
Many Russian immigrants to the “red borough” of Staten Island are flocking to the Republican Party, saying that the national Democrats’ “socialistic” policies remind them too much of the top-down oligarchy they fled in their native land.
With many of the borough’s Russian arrivees already owning businesses and active in civic organizations, their muscle could help the Island GOP solidify electoral gains made this year, when the party took back congressional and Assembly seats.
Let’s see now. They erect statues honoring Ronald Reagan in the former Communist satellite nations. Those who fled Communist Cuba become Republicans. And those who fled the Communist Soviet Union become Republicans.
Seems to be a trend here. One the American left will never understand.

In the blue corner, fighting out of New York, it’s liberal Rep. Anthony Weiner. And fighting out of Florida, it’s Rep. Debbie Wasserman-Schultz were absolutely helpless.
OK, so it wasn’t actually a fight. But it wasn’t actually a panel discussion, either. Bachmann mopped up the canvas with two of the most obnoxious Democrats in New York, Florida or anywhere else.
By the way, can anyone explain why Smith refers to “Congresswoman” Wasserman-Schultz and “Congressman” Weiner as Congressman and Congresswoman, but uses first names to refer to Kelly and Bachmann.

Gore may wish he could do something else like Punxsutawney Phil – take this embarrassing 2009 prediction down a hole and bury it.
ENS-newswire.com has the details from a mere 13 months ago:
Snow and ice across the planet are melting much faster than anticipated, and the cryosphere – the Earth’s ice and snow cover – is very vulnerable to climate change, finds a new report presented today at the United Nations Climate Summit by former U.S. Vice President Al Gore and Norwegian Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.
Snow cover is diminishing, and glaciers from the Himalayas to the Alps are melting rapidly, with the greatest reductions in the Andes and the Rockies, the report shows.
The study was commissioned by Gore and Støre as they co-chaired the conference Melting Ice: Regional Dramas, Global Wake-Up Call on April 28 in the town of Tromsø in northern Norway. A group of the world’s most knowledgeable climate researchers produced the report, coordinated by the Norwegian Polar Institute.
Your choice is clear, ladies and gentlemen. You can believe Al Gore or you can believe your lyin’ eyes.

Fox News’ total viewers for the year exceeded MSNBC, HLN, and CNN combined. That dominance came primarily at the expense of CNN which lost 29% of its total viewership.
A little decorum is in order, Mr. Murdoch. Please refrain from dancing on your competitors’ graves while the cameras are rolling.
A special message for CNN, MSNBC and HLN
BusinessInsider.com has details of the decimation:
The ratings are out for 2010.
Perhaps not surprisingly Fox News continued its march of dominance through the cablesphere, clocking its second-highest rated year ever in total viewers.
It was also the only news channel to hit the top 10 in cable networks, ranking fourth in Primetime behind USA, ESPN and TNT.
Want some context for that? Fox News’ total viewers for the year exceeded MSNBC, HLN, and CNN combined.
That dominance came primarily at the expense of CNN which lost 29% of its total viewership in 2010 and 34% of its prime time viewers. Yes, you read that right.
MSNBC, meanwhile stayed the course in total day total viewers – it was the only news channel not to drop in that category — but dropped 5% year over year in prime time total viewers and 9% in the prime time demo.
At MSNBC, Keith Olbermann is reportedly figuring out how to staunch the loss of viewers by consulting with the ghost of James Thurber. At CNN, Anderson Cooper knows he’s doomed because he’s starting 2011 by teaming up again with Kathy Griffin to host the annual New Year’s Eve broadcast. And on HLN … well, we really don’t know what’s going on there because like the rest of the American people, we don’t even know what channel they’re on.
You know what we need to make us love Muslims who love death more than life? A Muslim version of the Cosby Show, that’s what. Yup, that’s what CBS News anchorette Katie Couric says:

I also think sort of the chasm, between, or the bigotry expressed against Muslims in this country has been one of the most disturbing stories to surface this year. Of course, a lot of noise was made about the Islamic Center, mosque, down near the World Trade Center, but I think there wasn’t enough sort of careful analysis and evaluation of where this bigotry toward 1.5 billion Muslims worldwide, and how this seething hatred many people feel for all Muslims, which I think is so misdirected, and so wrong — and so disappointing. Maybe we need a Muslim version of The Cosby Show.
I know that sounds crazy, I know that sounds crazy. But The Cosby Show did so much to change attitudes about African-Americans in this country, and I think sometimes people are afraid of what they don’t understand…
But wait, Katie. We thought the liberal position was that racial relations are still terrible in this evil, racist country.
Maybe what we really need is a Muslim version of Chico & The Man. And maybe a Muslim version of Charlie Chan.
Good lord, this woman is stupid. And this is what passes for intellectual discourse in 2011.
If we were giving out awards for the dumbest friggin’ question of 2010, CNN’s Alina Cho would have earned her nomination in the last week of the year.
If we were giving out awards for the dumbest friggin’ question of 2010, CNN’s Alina Cho would have earned her nomination in the last week of the year.
She interviewed Lorena Bobbitt, who wisely decided that the only way she’d ever get another date was to change her name to Lorena Gallo, in a Where Are They Now segment.
In the middle of the interview, Cho asked what may be the dumbest question ever:
“After all these years, are you finally able to laugh about it?”
Remarkably, the former Mrs Bobbitt says she is able to laugh about cutting off her husband’s penis. No word on whether John Wayne Bobbit is laughing yet.
