Woe is Al. The Goracle has been nailed with another inconvenient untruth by epidemiologist Paul Reiter. Mosquitos.
There's nothing worse than hearing the buzzing of a mosquito in the middle of the night. Except maybe the droning of Al Gore.
Woe is Al. The Goracle has been nailed with another inconvenient untruth by epidemiologist Paul Reiter. Here’s how the Spectator UK reports the buzz:
I am a scientist, not a climatologist, so I don’t dabble in climatology. My speciality is the epidemiology of mosquito-borne diseases. As the film [An Inconvenient Truth] began, I knew Mr Gore would get to mosquitoes: they’re a favourite with climate-change activists. When he got to them, it was all I feared.
In his serious voice, Mr Gore presented a nifty animation, a band of little mosquitoes fluttering their way up the slopes of a snow-capped mountain, and he repeated the old line: Nairobi used to be ‘above the mosquito line, the limit at which mosquitoes can survive, but now…’ Those little mosquitoes kept climbing.
The truth? Nairobi means ‘the place of cool waters’ in the Masai language. The town grew up around a camp, set up in 1899 during the construction of a railway, the famous ‘Lunatic Express’. There certainly was water there — and mosquitoes. From the start, the place was plagued with malaria, so much so that a few years later doctors tried to have the whole town moved to a healthier place. By 1927, the disease had become such a plague in the ‘White Highlands’ that £40,000 (equivalent to about £350,000 today) was earmarked for malaria control. The authorities understood the root of the problem: forest clearance had created the perfect breeding places for mosquitoes. The disease was present as high as 2,500m above sea level; the mosquitoes were observed at 3,000m. And Nairobi? 1,680m.
Al, there’s a mosquito on your face. Let us slap it.
Tennessee Democrat Bart Gordon had $1.2 million in cash-on-hand in his last FEC filing. His Republican challengers? Only one of them had any cash on hand at that filing and that was a mere $13,731.
The blue dogs are running, but not for election
But the latest one to announce his retirement should give all Democrats reason to worry about the 2010 elections.
Tennessee Democrat Bart Gordon had $1.2 million in cash-on-hand in his last FEC filing. His Republican challengers? Only one of them had any cash on hand at that filing and that was a mere $13,731.
When an incumbent Democrat with a big pile of cash on hand decides that its time to retire, it must send a shiver down the spines of other Democrats.
Mustn’t it?
(Yeah, we know that wasn’t our cleverest closing line, but we’ve never used the word “mustn’t” before and this seemed like a good time to do it.)
Earlier this week, Gawkercalled congressman Jason Chaffetz a self-hating weirdo, an asshole, a probable closet case, and the son of Kitty Dukakis. He is not the son of Kitty Dukakis. We regret the error.
The folks at Gawker.com are not ones to mince words. Here are some of the unminced words they used in a recent heartfelt retraction.
Earlier this week, we called congressman Jason Chaffetz a self-hating weirdo, an asshole, a probable closet case, and the son of Kitty Dukakis. He is not the son of Kitty Dukakis. We regret the error.
Rape and torture. Abuse. Denial of basic rights of an adherent to Islam. Are these allegations of American military treatment of terror suspects in Gitmo?
Are these allegations of American military treatment of terror suspects in Gitmo? Or tales from Abu Ghraib? Neither.
Dr. Ramin Pourandarjani, the latest victim of Iranian terror and American media indifference, if not compliance.
Rape and torture. Abuse. Denial of basic rights of an adherent to Islam.
Are these allegations of American military treatment of terror suspects in Gitmo? Or tales from Abu Ghraib?
Neither.
These are reports about the horrible conditions of prisoners brought to light by a heroic Iranian doctor that, unless you read the Wall Street Journal, you’ve never heard about. You probably haven’t heard of the name of the latest martyr to the cause of a free Iran either, a cause the American government and media has chosen to bury.
The young Iranian doctor named Ramin Pourandarjani defied the regime by refusing to sign death certificates and dared to report on the conditions in the prison, which included tales of rape and murder.
Pourandarjani mysteriously ended up dead. The Iranian government said it was a car accident. And then heart attack. And then a suicide.
“I sent off my young, healthy and beautiful son to military service, and I got his dead body back,” says his mother, Ruhangiz Pourandarjani, who lives in the northwest city of Tabriz. “Anyone who says he committed suicide is lying and should be afraid of God.”
Maybe if an American had been in charge of Tehran’s torture jail Dr. Pourandarjani would still be alive today. His tales of torture would have certainly been front page news in newspapers and leading stories on television.
CBS has done everything possible to tarnish its reputation over the last 43 years. And nothing demonstrates that more clearly than the contrast between the simple, classic Christmas promo it produced in 1966 to the tacky one it produced this year.
1966: Season’s Greetings
2009: Frosty the Inappropriate Snowman
We believe it’s important to sit back during at this time of year and reflect upon the meaning of the holiday season. And, of course, to reflect upon why we hate the media.
CBS, the network that once proudly called itself “The Tiffany Network” has done everything possible to tarnish its reputation over the last 43 years. And nothing demonstrates that more clearly than the contrast between the simple, classic Christmas promo it produced in 1966 to the tacky one it produced this year.
Who the hell thought it would be a good idea to put the adult content of “How I Met Your Mother” with the classic children’s images of “Frosty the Snowman?”
The White House Christmas tree is decorated with ornaments adorned with photos of Mao Tse-Tung, a transvestite named–and, no, we are not making this up–Heada Lettuce, and the traditional picture of The Greatest President In History on Mount Rushmore.
Ahhh, the Holidays. Eggnog, mistletoe, a commie dictator, a transvestite, and an egomaniac.
What madness is this, you say? Well, according to BigGovernment.com, the White House Christmas tree is decorated with ornaments adorned with photos of Mao Tse-Tung, a transvestite named–and, no, we are not making this up–Heada Lettuce, and the traditional picture of The Greatest President In History on Mount Rushmore.
It seems that the madman designer Simon Doonan, who the Obamas put in charge of decorating the tree, decided to be naughty rather than nice. He decked the halls and decorated the aforementioned tree with the equally aforementioned images.
Leave it to this White House to come up with this lovely new Christmas tradition. Kind of chokes you up, doesn’t it?
When it comes to the subject of Barack Obama, communists are starting to sound just like conservatives.
Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez called President Obama "arrogant" and "undemocratic"
When it comes to the subject of Barack Obama, communists are starting to sound just like conservatives.
The Associated Press had this report on Cuba’s reaction to President Obama’s performance at the UN Climate Conference:
Cuba’s foreign minister called President Barack Obama an “imperial and arrogant” liar Monday for his conduct at the U.N. climate conference, a reflection of the communist island’s increasingly fiery verbal attacks on the U.S. government.
Bruno Rodriguez spent an hour and a half lambasting Obama’s behavior in Copenhagen, telling a news conference, “at this summit, there was only imperial, arrogant Obama, who does not listen, who imposes his positions and even threatens developing countries.”
He called the summit “a fallacy, a farce” and said Washington used back-room deals and strong-arm tactics to foist on the world a deal that he labeled “undemocratic” and “suicidal” because it urges – but does not require – major polluters to make deeper emissions cuts.
Rodriguez also said Cuba and other poor nations have refused to recognize the agreement because they weren’t permitted to participate in its development.
Arrogant? Didn’t let others participate? Doesn’t listen? Backroom deals?
House Minority Leader Mitch McConnell called President Obama "arrogant" and "undemocratic"
Hey, you communist son of a bitch, nobody describes our president that way. Except that Rodriguez sounds like he’s pulling a Joe Biden by copying comments by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell about ObamaCare “negotiations.”
The Wall Street Journal reported:
“It was quite arrogant: ‘We know best. You all sit down and shut up—meaning the American people. And Republicans, we don’t need to deal with you. You just sit down and shut up and we’ll take care of this for you.’ Very arrogant,” McConnell said of Democrats. “The President and the leadership said, ‘Make history.’ Well, that’s what you talk about when you don’t have the polls on your side. And of course, a lot of things that have happened in history have not been good.”
…The rushed, secretive way that a bill this destructive and unpopular is being forced on the country shows that “reform” has devolved into the raw exercise of political power for the single purpose of permanently expanding the American entitlement state. An increasing roll of leaders in health care and business are looking on aghast at a bill that is so large and convoluted that no one can truly understand it, as Finance Chairman Max Baucus admitted on the floor last week. The only goal is to ram it into law while the political window is still open, and clean up the mess later.
We say give this guy another Nobel Peace Prize. Anyone who can unify communists and conservatives really deserves one.
For the second straight day, the Rasmussen Reportsupdate shows the highest level of Strong Disapproval yet recorded for this President. So much for passing healthcare helping him
Just yesterday, Democrats were saying that the healthcare vote would cause their approval numbers to soar. Hmmmm. Might be time to rethink that theory.
The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Tuesday shows that 25% of the nation’s voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as President. Forty-six percent (46%) Strongly Disapprove giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -21 That’s the lowest Approval Index rating yet recorded for this President.
Fifty-three percent (53%) of men Strongly Disapprove along with 39% of women. Most African-American voters (58%) Strongly Approve while most white voters (53%) Strongly Disapprove.
Seventy-four percent (74%) of Republicans Strongly Disapprove as do 52% of unaffiliated voters. Forty-seven percent (47%) of Democrats Strongly Approve.
For the second straight day, the update shows the highest level of Strong Disapproval yet recorded for this President. That negative rating had never topped 42% before yesterday. However, it has risen dramatically since the Senate found 60 votes to move forward with the proposed health care reform legislation. Most voters (55%) oppose the health care legislation and senior citizens are even more likely than younger voters to dislike the plan.
In the words of Roy Rogers and Dale Evans, happy trails to you, President Obama, ‘til we meet again.
No one’s ever accused Wikipedia of being impartial nor even particularly accurate. But Lawrence Solomon’s story in the National Post reveals how one global warming cultist, William Connolley, ingle-handedly twisted the truth in more than 5,000 Wikipedia articles on global warming.
Rule of Life #1: Never trust a pony-tailed scientist who carries a teddy bear in his backpack
No one’s ever accused Wikipedia of being impartial nor even particularly accurate. But Lawrence Solomon’s story in the National Post reveals how one global warming cultist, William Connolley, (PHOTO, RIGHT) single-handedly twisted the truth in more than 5,000 Wikipedia articles on global warming:
Connolley took control of all things climate in the most used information source the world has ever known – Wikipedia. Starting in February 2003, just when opposition to the claims of the band members were beginning to gel, Connolley set to work on the Wikipedia site. He rewrote Wikipedia’s articles on global warming, on the greenhouse effect, on the instrumental temperature record, on the urban heat island, on climate models, on global cooling. On Feb. 14, he began to erase the Little Ice Age; on Aug.11, the Medieval Warm Period. In October, he turned his attention to the hockey stick graph. He rewrote articles on the politics of global warming and on the scientists who were skeptical of the band. Richard Lindzen and Fred Singer, two of the world’s most distinguished climate scientists, were among his early targets, followed by others that the band especially hated, such as Willie Soon and Sallie Baliunas of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, authorities on the Medieval Warm Period.
All told, Connolley created or rewrote 5,428 unique Wikipedia articles. His control over Wikipedia was greater still, however, through the role he obtained at Wikipedia as a website administrator, which allowed him to act with virtual impunity. When Connolley didn’t like the subject of a certain article, he removed it — more than 500 articles of various descriptions disappeared at his hand. When he disapproved of the arguments that others were making, he often had them barred — over 2,000 Wikipedia contributors who ran afoul of him found themselves blocked from making further contributions. Acolytes whose writing conformed to Connolley’s global warming views, in contrast, were rewarded with Wikipedia’s blessings. In these ways, Connolley turned Wikipedia into the missionary wing of the global warming movement.
Who is Connolley? Here’s what Wikipedia says about him:
Connolley holds a Bachelor of Arts in mathematics and Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Oxford for his work on numerical analysis. Connolley has authored and co-authored many articles in the field of climatological research.
Connolley served as a parish councillor in the village of Coton (near Cambridge, England) until May 2007. He stood as a Green Party candidate for either South Cambridgeshire District Council or Cambridgeshire County Council every year from 2001 to 2005.
Of course, Connolley probably wrote his own Wikipedia bio, so we have no idea if any of it is true.
The prices for bronze busts of Candidate Obama and President Obama have fallen even farther and faster than Rachel Maddow’s ratings. The Barack Obama busts, which were advertised for $899 as recently as December 2, can now be yours for just $199.
Give the artist credit. He perfectly captured the arrogant tilt of Obama's chin.
Bad news for collectors of Barack Obama art. The bottom has fallen out of the market.

In retail parlance, it’s a giant doorbuster sale! All inventory must go! Everything is marked to sell! No offer will be refused! Next thing you know, they’ll be advertising Buy One, Get One Free!
$199? We say wait a couple more weeks. After Christmas, these things will be cheap enough to use a stocking stuffers next Christmas.
And years from now they’ll be sentimental reminders of that brief period of time in American history when people went nuts and made a completely unqualified socialist their President.
Oh, how you’ll sit back and laugh at the memories.
Rasmussen shows what happens when a pompous politician forces an unpopular healthcare program down the throats of the American people. Hope this guy has a good lobbying job lined up, because he’s going to need it come November, 2010.

If news reports are to be believed, Copenhagen is a Danish word that means “You’re screwed.” That’s the only way to interpret these conflicting news reports.
Think of yourself as the polar bear, tenuously clinging to life on a dying planet. Waaaaa.
If news reports are to be believed, Copenhagen is a Danish word that means “You’re screwed.” That’s the only way to interpret these conflicting news reports.
The Guardian UK reports the results of the two-week Copenhagen circle jerk:
After eight draft texts and all-day talks between 115 world leaders, it was left to Barack Obama and Wen Jiabao, the Chinese premier, to broker a political agreement. The so-called Copenhagen accord “recognises” the scientific case for keeping temperature rises to no more than 2C but does not contain commitments to emissions reductions to achieve that goal.
Hold on just a darn sec. Haven’t we been told that a two degree rise in temps would wreak devastation the world over?
Prior to Copenhagen, here’s how Reuters answered the question “What happens if temperatures rise by 2 celsius?”
Hundreds of millions of people would be exposed to increased stress on water supplies, according to the IPCC in its last major report in 2007, based on research by 2,500 experts. It says more people would suffer from malnutrition, some infectious diseases and there would be more deaths from heatwaves, floods and droughts. Up to 30 percent of species of animals and plants would be at increasing risk of extinction. Coral reefs would be damaged. Cereals production would decline in tropical areas but, in one benefit, would improve nearer the poles. Coasts would suffer increased damage from floods and storms.
Now if that hasn’t scared the bejeebers out of you, the Yale Climate Media Forum will:
The Real Climate scientist bloggers strongly articulate that cautionary view: “We feel compelled to note that even a ‘moderate’ warming of 2 degrees C stands a strong chance of provoking drought and storm responses that could challenge civilized society, leading potentially to the conflict and suffering that go with failed states and mass migrations.”
MIT climate scientist Kerry Emanuel said in an e-mail exchange with The Yale Forum that 2 degrees is a “delicate compromise between what is desirable and what may be feasible.” He said there is bound to be debate on such a big issue.
“Any number much above 1 degree involves a gamble, and the odds become less and less favorable as the temperature goes up,” Emanuel wrote.
The Yale Climate Media Forum’s was just getting started:
James McCarthy, professor of biological oceanography at Harvard University and the current President of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, said that the closer the planet comes to a global average rise of 2 degrees Celsius, the less likely we are to be able to avoid climbing to even higher temperatures.
“As we approach 2 degrees, many models suggest that tipping points will be reached with respect to summer sea ice and these large masses of glacial ice,” McCarthy told The Yale Forum in an e-mail interview. “Either will result in strong reinforcing (positive) climate feedbacks, not to mention dramatic changes in the Arctic ecosystem and enhanced sea level rise.”
Models also suggest that feedback cycles could afflict both the tundra – where scientists fear a massive carbon release – and the Amazon forest ecosystem, which could rapidly dry up, McCarthy noted.
So on one hand, they want us to believe that a 2-degree rise in temperatures will seal our doom. On the other hand, they want us to believe that the world’s leaders just agreed to a 2-degree rise in temperatures.
Back in the horse and buggy days, before the invention of the internal combustion engine, scientists feared that the world would end up being buried in horse manure. Now, after two weeks of Copenhagen, everyone should realize that we’re far more likely to end up being buried in bullshit.
Our hearts go out to Rachel Maddow. She starts this report by attempting to glorify the accomplishments of President Obama in Copenhagen, but ends it shaken by the reality of a report of Obama’s failures by Andrea Mitchell.
Our hearts go out to Rachel Maddow. She starts this report by attempting to glorify the accomplishments of President Obama in Copenhagen, but ends it seeming almost shaken by reality.
What caused the sudden change of heart? A report by NBC Foreign Correspondent Andrea Mitchell, who gives a remarkably honest review of Obama’s failures at the Copenhagen circle jerk.
It’s no wonder Maddow was surprised. Because there’s certainly no reason to think Obama would fail in Copenhagen when he’s been so successful in everything else he’s done.
This photo of Air Force One returning President Obama to Andrews Air Force Base from Copenhagen clearly demonstrates the power of our president to lower temperatures.

Russia has accused British climate researchers of picking and choosing temperature data from Russian weather stations. Oddly enough, they picked only data that supported anthropogenic global warming and ignored any data that inconveniently disagreed with their dandy little theory.
Here’s another story for delegates to ignore at the Copenhagen Global Warming & Interational Bribery Conference:
Russia has accused British climate researchers of picking and choosing temperature data from Russian weather stations. Oddly enough, they picked only data that supported anthropogenic global warming and ignored any data that inconveniently disagreed with their dandy little theory.
According to the Russians, the British “scientists” only used data from urban weather stations and intentionally deleted colder rural stations.
The science is settled! The science is settled! The science is settled!

Joe Lieberman was speaking on the Senate floor when he was cut off by Al Franken. Lieberman was both amazed and amused, John McCain was pissed, saying he’d never seen this happen in his 20 years in the senate.
Welcome to democracy, Democrat-style. America’s favorite leftist party is in such a rush to get ObamaCare to a vote that they’re now violating long-standing Senate rules in order to do so.

POP’s website has just made this exciting announcement: “After dozens of submissions and thousands of votes, we’re pleased to announce the winners of the Public Option Please art contest.”
A public advocacy group called “Public Option Please” held an art contest. They wanted a poster that best promotes ObamaCare’s public option.

Wait no longer propaganda art fans, because here it is. The big winner. It doesn’t take a lot of brainpower to figure out the symbolism. It clearly communicates the left’s mindset that all life begins and ends in Washington, DC.
That, of course, is just the opposite of what we believe.
If we had entered the contest, our painting would have been slightly different. It would have shown a giant vacuum in Washington, DC with its tentacles extending to every community in America, sucking dollar bills to and from the nation’s capital.
He is the first black president. The first superman president. The first God president. The first immortal president. The first intergalactic president. He is Barack Hussein Obama.
This Pew survey goes a long way toward explaining why Democrats continue to believe in Hope and Change and ObamaCare and, for that matter, anything that comes out of this president’s mouth.
"Did Bill Ayers really write the President's books? Is Barack Obama a Muslim? Where was the President born? Will ObamaCare bankrupt us?"
Break out the Ouija Board and find out if they believe in the tooth fairy, unicorns and Santa Claus (no, no Santa Claus. He’s a symbol of Christmas, that racist, sexist, homophobic holiday celebrated by intolerant Christians).
Here’s the story of a new Pew Research study from Byron York in the Washington Examiner:
“Conservatives and Republicans report fewer experiences than liberals or Democrats communicating with the dead, seeing ghosts and consulting fortunetellers or psychics,” the Pew study says. For example, 21 percent of Republicans report that they have been in touch with someone who is dead, while 36 percent of Democrats say they have done so. Eleven percent of Republicans say they have seen a ghost, while 21 percent of Democrats say so. And nine percent of Republicans say they have consulted a fortuneteller, while 22 percent of Democrats have.
There’s more. Seventeen percent of Republicans say they believe in reincarnation, while 30 percent of Democrats do. Fourteen percent of Republicans say they believe in astrology, while 31 percent of Democrats do. Fifteen percent of Republicans say they view yoga as a spiritual practice, while 31 percent of Democrats do. Seventeen percent of Republicans say they believe in spiritual energy, while 30 percent of Democrats do.
Have you ever been to Taos, New Mexico? They’ve built up this phony marketing mystique about how “spiritual” the place is. The tour guides say things like, “You can just feeeeeeel the spiritual nature of the land.”
Want to know what we felt when we were there? Cold. Freezing ass cold. And the spirit guide wanted us to stand around outside in the freezing ass spiritual cold when we wanted to go inside and get a steaming hot cup of real world joe.
Sorry, we got off point.
The point was, this Pew survey goes a long way toward explaining why Democrats continue to believe in Hope and Change and ObamaCare and, for that matter, anything that comes out of this president’s mouth.
