Turns out Rachel’s upset about what she calls “fake court, off-shore tribunals.” You know, the kind that have been held for hundreds of years, the kind that have been approved by the Supreme Court. In other words, the kind liberals hate most.
Maddow: “That sort of tells you everything you need to know about how the beltway sees the relationship between the Democratic party and the Democratic party’s base …But a Democratic president kicks his base in the teeth on something as fundamental as civil liberties, he puts the nail in coffin of a civil liberties promise he made on his first full day in office and does it on the first day of his reelection effort? The beltway reaction to that is, good move … That’s the difference between Republican politics and Democratic politics.

Libyan rebels have accused NATO of being too slow to act – and asked them to suspend operations unless they “do the job properly.”
We’re not embarrassed to admit that we can’t make up our minds about the war in Libya.
One one hand, we’re tempted to say, “Screw you and the camel you rode in on” to the leader of the Libyan rebels. On the other hand, we’re tempted to say the same thing to President Obama for getting us involved in this fiasco.

Sky News has the inflammatory information:
Libyan rebels have accused NATO of being too slow to act – and asked them to suspend operations unless they “do the job properly”.
Rebel leader Abdel Fattah Younes has complained the alliance takes hours to respond to events on the battlefield because of an overly bureaucratic process.
He claimed the alliance’s inaction was allowing Colonel Muammar Gaddafi’s forces to advance and was letting them kill people in the rebel-held city of Misrata “everyday”.
He said: “NATO is moving very slowly, allowing Gaddafi forces to advance. NATO has become our problem.”
Mr Younes also said if NATO wanted to lift Col Gaddafi’s weeks-long siege in Misrata, it could have done it weeks ago.
NATO took over from a coalition led by the United States, Britain and France on March 31.
So let’s see if we can follow this. First, the Arab League begged NATO to help the Libyan rebels. Then the Arab League condemned NATO for getting involved. Now the leader of the Libyan rebels is complaining that NATO has become the problem instead of the solution.
Oh, yeah, this is all going to turn out well.

The theory behind the strategy was that new elections would help the Liberals pick up more seats in Parliament. Oops.
About two weeks ago the Canadian Liberals pulled off what they thought was a very clever move. They wrangled together enough votes in Parliament to pass a no confidence motion, which forced Conservative Prime Minister Stephen Harper to call for new elections.
The theory behind the strategy was that new elections would help the Liberals pick up more seats in Parliament:

Oops. Reuters reports that the move may backfire:
The Conservatives widened its lead against the opposition Liberals in an opinion poll released on Monday.
The Nanos Research tracking poll of results over three days of surveys put support for the Conservatives at 42.3 percent, up from 40.7 percent in Sunday’s survey. Support for the Liberals slipped to 28.4 percent from 29.4 percent.
Under Canada’s electoral system, a party needs around 40 percent of the vote to win a majority of the 308 seats in the House of Commons in the May 2 federal election.
Let’s get into neither Canadian math, in which 40% equals a majority, nor Reuters English, in which “The Conservatives widened its lead” is proper grammar.
But let’s do get into the fact that Canada’s Liberals forced the nation’s Conservative Prime Minister to call an election in which they will lose seats.
Oh, how we wish American liberals would follow the example set by their Canadian cousins and spend more of their time mastering the art of deficit elections rather than art of deficit spending.

The Bakersfield fire chief in that conservative farming and oil community thought it would be a good idea to remove the American flag from his department’s uniforms.
Bakersfield, California is about two hours and several light years away from IHateTheMedia.com’s intergalactic headquarters.
For some reason, some unknown and unfathomable reason, the fire chief in that conservative farming and oil community thought it would be a good idea to remove the American flag from his department’s uniforms.
As you might well imagine, this did not sit well with either the firefighters or the residents of Buck Owens’ adopted hometown.
As Buck might have said to the fire chief, “You’ve got a tiger by the tail.”
Let’s enjoy a little Buck in honor of this boneheaded Bakersfield decision.

Census Bureau data reveals that most U.S. families headed by illegal immigrants use taxpayer-funded welfare programs on behalf of their American-born anchor babies.
Two of our least favorite words in the English language: anchor baby.
And just to prove that we’re equal opportunity smart asses, two of our least favorite words in the Spanish language: anclaje bebé.

Judicial Watch has the details:
Census Bureau data reveals that most U.S. families headed by illegal immigrants use taxpayer-funded welfare programs on behalf of their American-born anchor babies.
Even before the recession, immigrant households with children used welfare programs at consistently higher rates than natives, according to the extensive census data collected and analyzed by a nonpartisan Washington D.C. group dedicated to researching legal and illegal immigration in the U.S. The results, published this month in a lengthy report, are hardly surprising.
… The study focused on eight major welfare programs that cost the government $517 billion the year they were examined. They include Supplemental Security Income (SSI) for the disabled, Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF), a nutritional program known as Women, Infants and Children (WIC), food stamps, free/reduced school lunch, public housing and health insurance for the poor (Medicaid).
Food assistance and Medicaid are the programs most commonly used by illegal immigrants, mainly on behalf of their American-born children who get automatic citizenship.
We give, they take. From the parasite’s point of view, it’s a symbiotic relationship.

We know it’s still early in the year, but we’re willing to award the prize for Dumbest Environmental PR Stunt of the Year to whoever came up with Pee-On-Earth Day.
That’s right. Mark it on your calendar, folks. June 21 is Pee-On-Earth Day. Here’s how the organization’s website describes it:

Pee-On-Earth Day
June 21 (Dec. 21 in the eastern hemisphere)
Pee-On-Earth Day is a day to bring your urine outside to nourish plants and avoid using water to flush your toilet!
Fertilize plants with your urine’s nitrogen and phosphorus. PEECYCLE either directly or by depositing your contribution in a container you take outside and apply to: - Soil, wood chips or the forest floor (not pavement) - Your composter or compost pile (makes brown leaves and woodchips compost faster)
Or dilute it with 9 parts water to 1 part urine, and pour around plants*
*Dilute or distribute widely: Lots of urine deposited in one spot on your lawn can result in nitrogen burn!
“Why, yes, Mrs. Editor, that is a big jug of pee in the bathroom. Just ignore it. It’s going to be really good for the plants.”
Yeah, like that’s going to fly.
NOTE: Far be it from us to correct the experts at Pee-On-Earth Day, but we think they mean “December 21 in the Southern Hemisphere.”

Remember the good ol’ days when Nobel Peace Prizes were awarded to people who actually lived lives filled with peaceful pursuits? People like the Dalai Lama, Elie Wiesel, and Mother Teresa.
Well, those days are gone. Long gone. More recent Nobel Peace Prizes have gone to unabashed terrorist Yasser Arafat, newly-minted war monger Barack Obama, and Egyptian Presidential hopeful Mohamed ElBaradei.

YNet reveals ElBaradei’s warmongering:
Former International Atomic Energy Agency chief Mohamed ElBaradei, who had previously announced his intetions to run for the presidency of Egypt, said Monday that “if Israel attacked Gaza we would declare war against the Zionist regime.”
In an interview with the Al-Watan newspaper he said: “In case of any future Israeli attack on Gaza — as the next president of Egypt — I will open the Rafah border crossing and will consider different ways to implement the joint Arab defense agreement.”
He also stated that “Israel controls Palestinian soil” adding that that “there has been no tangible breakthrough in reconciliation process because of the imbalance of power in the region — a situation that creates a kind of one way peace.”
“One way peace” sounds like something that occurs immediately prior to a “kinetic military action.”
If this guy doesn’t become President of Egypt, he surely has a future in the Obama administration.

And we quote the Director of Homeland Security when we say, “The border’s not out of control.”
Whether it is or isn’t, we’re pretty sure Janet Napolitano is out of control.
So let’s just ignore those murders, drug dealing, beheadings, kidnappings, shootings, thefts and areas that the government has already declared unsafe for American citizens. Because if Janet Napolitano says the border area is safe, then by god, the border area is safe.
Now let’s sit back for a moment and imagine Napolitano playing the Jack Nicholson role in “A Few Good Men” and screaming, “You can’t handle the truth.”
“Look these are tough times for America. We don’t need a good politician. We need a strong leader. We need to engage this country on the issues that are necessary to secure our prosperity, to get this debt paid off. “
Paul Ryan talked to Fox News’ Chris Wallace on Sunday morning about upcoming Republican budget proposals:
“Senate Democrats have not even passed a bill to prevent a government shutdown. We’ve passed two… I find it kind of ironic that the week we are trying to engage the president, the democrats and the country with an honest debate about our budget with real solutions to fix this country’s problems and prevent a debt crisis, the president’s launching his reelection campaign. Look these are tough times for America. We don’t need a good politician. We need a strong leader. We need to engage this country on the issues that are necessary to secure our prosperity, to get this debt paid off. To get our economy growing right now. We know for a fact that we are giving our children and grandchildren a lower standing of living. And, we don’t need good politics. We don’t need to keep making empty promises to people. We need to engage and fix these problems while they are still under our control.”
Do you think Ryan may have been speaking about himself? Naaaaah.

Voters continue to view the Republican agenda in Congress as more mainstream than the agenda of the Democrats.
Last week Chuck Schumer trotted out the results of the Democrats’ latest focus group and ordered his party’s other senators to begin calling the Republican agenda “extreme” in every other sentence. Now we know why.
Rasmussen has the bad news for Schumer:

Voters continue to view the Republican agenda in Congress as more mainstream than the agenda of the Democrats. But only one-in-four voters think the average member of either party shares the same ideology they do.
A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey of Likely Voters shows that 45% say it would be more accurate to describe the agenda of Republicans in Congress as mainstream, up five points from last month. Thirty-eight percent (38%) say it’s more accurate to describe that agenda as extreme, while 17% more are undecided.
But half of voters (50%) say the Democratic agenda in Congress is extreme, while 37% see it as mainstream, also up five points from a month ago. Another 14% are not sure.
Surely Schumer finds these results disappointing in the extreme.

California Democrat Barbara Boxer has long held the unofficial title of World’s Dumbest Senator. But now it looks like she may have a little competition from Missouri Democrat Claire McCaskill.
McCaskill’s glass was half full, but her brain was half empty when she spoke to the Georgetown University College Democrats on March 28. That’s when she revealed that there’s a silver lining to the recession: The lack of economic activity has reduced those pesky greenhouse gasses.
It does appear, however, that the bullshit and resultant methane emissions were rather heavy that day at Georgetown.

A STARTLED man has told how he found a bullet lying in a York city-centre street.
Tim Stark said he was unloading items into the MOR Music store where he works in Fossgate yesterday morning when he spotted what he believed to be a live .22 bullet gleaming in a puddle.
He said he immediately called police, who came and took it away.
“I have no idea what it was doing there,” he said.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said the bullet had been put into safe storage, and CID had confirmed it was not thought to be connected with any incident currently under investigation.
He asked anyone with any information about the bullet and how it came to be in Fossgate to phone the force on 0845 60 60 47.
In the words of Hardwurkindaddy, who sent us this tip, “Has everyone in the entire friggin’ world LOST THIER MINDS?”
Our point of view? Unless the bullet they found in the street was in a body they found in the street, we’re not even sure what the issue is.

Thousands of Nazi soldiers were using the drug crystal meth by the time the Soviet Union was invaded in 1941.
As our regular readers are well aware, Cops is the Editor’s favorite TV show. His normal life is lived in a peaceful, antiseptic bubble and everything he knows about the horrors of the outside world comes from that outstanding program. And if there’s one thing he’s learned from years of watching Cops, it’s that crystal meth is one bad mofo drug.

Now it turns out that Hitler’s army was whacked out on the stuff 60 years ago.
The News Australia has the story:
The German army’s drug of choice as it overran Poland, Holland, Belgium and France was Pervitin – pills made of methamphetamine, known today as crystal meth.
Thousands of Nazi soldiers were using the drug by the time the Soviet Union was invaded in 1941.
About 200 million Pervitin pills were given to Nazi troops between 1939 and 1945, research by the German Doctors’ Association revealed.
A pharmacologist from the GDA said this week: “The blitzkrieg was fuelled by Pervitin. The idea was to turn ordinary soldiers, sailors and airmen into automatons capable of superhuman performance.”
The downside to the scheme was that many soldiers became addicted to the drug and of no use in any theatre of war.
… In January 1942, a group of 500 troops surrounded by the Red Army was attempting to escape in temperatures of -30C.
The unit’s medical officer wrote: “I decided to give them Pervitin as they began to lie down in the snow wanting to die. After half an hour the men began spontaneously reporting that they felt better.
“They began marching in orderly fashion again, their spirits improved, and they became more alert.”
So thanks to crystal meth, Nazi soldiers were completely alert as they were freezing to death, being slaughtered by the Red Army or captured and sent to Soviet slave camps.
The Editor’s wife might prefer any of those options over watching another episode of Cops. But her taste in television is as questionable as her taste in men.

At least six Afghan insurgents were killed Saturday in an attack on a NATO military base, two of whom were wearing the Muslim full-body women’s burqas.
Taliban transvestites. What other conclusion can be drawn from this report from Afghanistan? None, we tell you. Absolutely none.
UPI (crap, we didn’t even know they were still in business) has the details:

At least six Afghan insurgents were killed Saturday in an attack on a NATO military base near Kabul, military officials said.
Three NATO soldiers were injured in the attack by the guerrillas, two of whom were wearing the Muslim full-body women’s burqas, The Washington Post reported.
The insurgents were armed with Kalashnikov automatic weapons, but didn’t breach the base’s perimeter, NATO said. U.S. military said its forces shot two of the attackers and the others detonated suicide bomb-vests.
The vests were made of a delicate lavender silk with traditional Afghan embroidery. The ensemble was completed with jaunty burqas from the Calvin Klein summer collection. Shoes by Dolce & Gabbana. Dynamite by Alfred Nobel.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (which technically, should be PFTETOA, not PETA) sent a letter to the mayor of San Francisco requesting that the city’s Tenderloin District be renamed the “Tempeh District.”

In case you’re as unfamiliar with tempeh as we were, Mrs Editor confidently states that it’s a traditional Indonesian soy dish. (Looks like all those hours watching the Food Channel have finally paid off.)
NBC Bay Area has the letter and the story:
“I am writing on behalf of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) and our more than 2 million members and supporters, including thousands in the Bay Area, with an idea that could help revitalize the struggling Tenderloin district: rename it the “Tempeh District.” By discarding an outdated moniker that evokes the horrors of the meat trade, you’ll be sending a strong message to progressive businesses and health-conscious residents that this neighborhood is ready for a fresh start.”
The letter goes on to explain how tempeh is healthier and cruelty-free, while tenderloin is full of suffering.
Reiman goes on to offer other suggestions if Tempeh doesn’t have the right ring to it,
“If Tempeh doesn’t excite you, how about Granola Flats or Seitan’s Lair? You could even run a contest to choose a veggie moniker.”
We’d open this contest up to our readers, but we’re pretty sure you lunatics would all come up with names like “Tube Steak Town.”
We’re not gonna go there.

We’re willing to call both sides wacko, but Reuters can’t bring itself to do the same. It only seems to have a problem with one side of this issue and we’re pretty sure you can probably guess which side it is.
Terry Jones, the wacko Christian preacher in Florida, burned a Koran in public the other day. That was followed by wacko Muslims rioting in Afghanistan.
We’re willing to call both sides wacko, but Reuters can’t bring itself to do the same. It only seems to have a problem with one side of this issue and we’re pretty sure you can probably guess which side it is.

In an 859-word article headlined “Ten dead in Afghan Koran burning protests,” the huge European news service refers to Jones as “a radical fundamentalist Christian” and “extremist Christian preacher Terry Jones.” Yet no similar incendiary adjectives were used to describe the Muslim Afghan protesters who rioted in the streets of Kandahar and killed ten people. Quite to the contrary, they are called “deeply religious.”
For example, shouldn’t someone performing a suicide attack be considered extremist? Not to Reuters:
A suicide attack also hit a NATO military base in the capital Kabul, the day after protesters over-ran a U.N. mission in the northern city of Mazar-i-Sharif and killed seven foreign staff, in the deadliest attack on the UN in Afghanistan.
Taliban extremists are transformed into “burkha-clad insurgents” by Reuters:
In Kabul on Saturday, a small group of burkha-clad insurgents attacked a coalition base,

Riot all you want and commit mayhem for days on end, but if you’re Muslim Reuters will not use harsh adjectives to describe you:
A band of around 150 men who had taken to the streets to denounce the Koran burning set tires alight, smashed shops and assaulted an Afghan photographer, Reuters’ witnesses said. Some of the attackers were carrying guns.
The photographer was hit over the head and had his camera taken from him and smashed, by protesters who discussed killing him.
They’re demonstrators, not extremists and certainly not fundamentalists:
Around 5,000 demonstrators flooded into the streets…
The violence was extreme, perhaps, but not those who committed it:
Some were horrified by the extreme violence but not all had sympathy for the foreign dead.
And finally, the article concludes with this:
More volatile protests are possible across deeply religious Afghanistan…
So the way we understand this totally impartial article, Terry Jones is a “radical fundamentalist…extremist” because he burned a Koran in public, but the Afghan rioters who killed ten people, slit at least one throat, injured dozens, and destroyed private property are “deeply religious.”
And that, friends, is what Reuters calls balanced reportage.

Don’t worry about the Muslim Brotherhood. Don’t panic. Don’t freak out. The terrorist organization doesn’t inspire enough Google searches to be a force for ill in Egypt.
Don’t worry about the Muslim Brotherhood. Don’t panic. Don’t freak out. The terrorist organization doesn’t inspire enough Google searches to be a force for ill in Egypt.
At least that’s the theory that some in the military intelligence community would have us believe.

A lot of your tax dollars were wasted by NPR to bring you this report:
Consider the debate raging in Washington, D.C., about the Muslim Brotherhood as the revolution unfolded in Egypt, he [Lt. Col. Reid Sawyer, an Army intelligence officer and head of West Point’s Combating Terrorism Center] says. There were concerns in the U.S. intelligence community that the Muslim Brotherhood, an Islamic political group, might come to power.
“If the decision makers could have understood how little the Muslim Brotherhood was animating the online searches inside of Egypt,” Sawyer continued, “how might it have led to different decisions or different discussions, at least, that were being held in the halls of Washington?”
In other words, few seemed interested enough in the Muslim Brotherhood to search for them on Google. So how much of a role could the group have been playing in day-to-day conversations in Egypt?
It is unfortunate that Al Gore hadn’t invented the internet back in the summer of 1789. Otherwise we could all have been assured that France stood little chance of becoming a military dictatorship. After all, hardly anyone – on or around July 14th of that year – would have had much interest in Googling an obscure little Corsican by the name of Napoleon Bonaparte.
