Entertainer Ted Danson says you shouldn’t listen to Rush Limbaugh because he’s just an entertainer

“Cheers” was a very funny television show. But it was a damn drama compared to what Joy Behar puts on the air every Monday to Friday night.

Clearly, Cheers star Ted Danson is too stupid to understand the irony of an entertainer involved in politics complaining that another entertainer is involved in politics.

The combination of Joy Behar’s sparkling wit and Ted Danson’s glittering intelligence is a marvel to behold.

Where have all the hurricanes gone, Al?

Contrary to everything they told us during the record high hurricane season of 2005, hurricanes have not gotten more frequent and have not become more intense. It’s just the opposite, in fact.

This is not the kind of news that sets global warming scaremongers’ hearts aflutter:

Contrary to everything they told us during the record high hurricane season of 2005, hurricanes have not gotten more frequent and have not become more intense. It’s just the opposite, in fact.

No hurricanes, Al. Just another beautiful day in paradise.
No hurricanes, Al. Just another beautiful day in paradise.

Here’s how the Florida State University Center for Ocean-Atmosphere Prediction Studies reports the details:

The North Atlantic hurricane season has not produced a storm in over 3-weeks and, if no more develop, the season overall would rank as the slowest since the El Nino year of 1997. Hurricanes Bill and Fred accounted for over 82% of the Accumulated Cyclone Energy [ACE**] — a metric that combines intensity, duration, and frequency of hurricanes and tropical storms during a year. The remaining storms were weak, rather short-lived and unremarkable. Indeed, the Accumulated Cyclone Energy [ACE] of 44 ranks among the slowest during the past half-century.

Sure, say the skeptics, hurricanes may be down in the North Atlantic, but what about the rest of the world. Surely, frequency and intensity have increased elsewhere.

We hate to be bearers of bad news, but no, that’s not the case.

EPA attorneys say Cap-and-Trade won’t work (sounds like half of Obama’s voters)

Two lawyers from the EPA’s San Francisco Regional Office (if they were any further left they’d be in the Pacific Ocean) have spoken out against the Cap-and-Trade bill wending its way through the Congress.

Two lawyers from the EPA’s San Francisco Regional Office (if they were any further left they’d be in the Pacific Ocean) have spoken out against the Cap-and-Trade bill wending its way through the Congress.

In an op-ed piece in today’s Washington Post the two wrote:

What guarantees failure of the proposed climate bills, however, are their provisions for carbon offsets, a concept not used in the acid rain program. Both bills allow all required greenhouse-gas reductions for almost 20 years to be met with carbon offsets rather than actual reductions in use of the capped sources. Offsets — considered indispensable to keeping cap-and-trade affordable — are supposed to be “additional” reductions beyond what is legally required. But experience with offsets in Europe and California has shown that ensuring real “additionality” is not an achievable goal.

Carbon offsets create the illusion of “additional” greenhouse-gas reductions, but we are just getting business as usual. Untrackable shifting of economic activity and perverse incentives such as these are inherent problems for carbon offsets and cannot be solved by certification or verification processes. Since the most flawed offsets will be the cheapest, they will also be the most popular.

In a related story, Nancy Pelosi has introduced legislation authorizing Congress to purchase carbon offsets (from Al Gore, who else) so the two attorneys can be burned at the stake.

The Mystery of Argleton: Google Maps creates town where none exists, won’t explain

Google does many things that are beyond the grasp of mere mortals and this is one of them. Google Maps has placed a town called Argleton in the middle of the English countryside where none exists.

google-map-argleton

Google does many things that are beyond the grasp of mere mortals and this is one of them. Google Maps has placed a town called Argleton in the middle of the English countryside where none exists.

London’s Daily Telegraph tells the strange story and some of the problems it’s caused:

The town appears on Google Maps in the middle of fields close to the M58 motorway, just south of Ormskirk.

Its ‘presence’ means that online businesses that use data from the software have detected it and automatically treated it as a real town in the L39 postcode area.

An internet search for the town now brings up a series of home, job and dating listings for people and places “in Argleton,” as well as websites which help people find its nearest chiropractor and even plan jogging or hiking routes through it. The businesses, people and services listed are real, but are actually based elsewhere in the same postcode area.

Google and the company that supplies its mapping data are unable to explain the presence of the phantom town and are investigating.

Tantalisingly, “Argle” echoes the word “Google,” while the phantom town’s name is also an anagram of “Not Real G,” and “Not Large.”

Here’s the Google Maps page for Argleton. You can switch to satellite view to see the terrain (and no town).

What’s Google up to this time? Any ideas?

Is this a case of remarkably biased reporting? You be the judge, wingnut.

Here, in one remarkable paragraph, Davies clearly demonstrates that liberal media bias is a worldwide phenomenon.

Anne Davies is the Washington correspondent for Rupert Murdoch’s Australian newspapers, so one might assume she has her biases under control.
But, alas, it was not to be.

Here, in one remarkable paragraph, Davies clearly demonstrates that liberal media bias is a worldwide phenomenon:

Fox dominated the news channel ratings. Its top host, Bill O’Reilly, who offers right-wing ideology and belittles liberals, attracted an average 881,000 viewers, while CNN’s award-winning Anderson Cooper, who bills himself as a serious journalist who actually goes to war zones, rated only 211,000 viewers.

Well, that about sums it up. Thanks for putting it all in perspective for us, Anne.

The deification of Barack Obama continues.

Sting says, “He’s sent from God.” Archbishop Gabriel Charles Palmer-Buckle of Ghana said there is “a divine plan behind” Obama’s election. “It’s like the biblical story repeating itself,” the Archbishop said, noting the Old Testament story of Joseph, who became a top government official after being sold into slavery.

As a result, the 1900-page ObamaCare bill will probably be the last piece of legislation ever passed in Congress.

After that, we will all lead our lives based on the wisdom handed down in The Ten Commandments According To Barack Obama.

Verily.

Lost amid the exciting news that the American economy is roaring back to life and that the Obama administration is creating jobs like nobody’s business is the most important job of all – that of deposed Honduran President Manuel Zelaya.

Under increasing pressure from the Obama administration to violate its own constitution, Zelaya’s opponents have agreed to a U.S.-brokered deal that will return the legally-ousted would-be dictator to power four months after a coup forced him to leave the country.

We can only hope that this job, like most of the other jobs created by Obama’s so-called stimulus, is just a temporary one.

CDC Report: Liberals kill more black people than the Ku Klux Klan

According to numbers from statistics provided by the Guttmacher Institute, a pro-abortion group, 1,784 blacks are aborted each day. Dr. Alveda King, niece of slain civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. said, “… abortion has done what the Klan only dreamed of.”

black genocideOh, Obama! Say it ain’t so!

A new report from the U.S. Center for Disease Control reports that abortion killed at least 203,991 blacks in the 36 states and two cities (New York City and the District of Columbia) that reported abortions by race in 2005. Contrast this with the Tuskegee Institute’s famous report that said 3,437 lynchings of African Americans occurred between 1882 and 1968 and troubling genocidal questions begin bubbling to the surface.

Abortion kills more black Americans than the other seven leading causes of death (heart disease, cancer, strokes, accidents, diabetes, homicide, and chronic lower respiratory diseases ) combined, according to data collected by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for 2005, the latest year for which the abortion numbers are available.

When asked to comment on this report, Dr. Freda Bush, a black, pro-life obstetrician and gynecologist said, “I would like for them to explain why there’s such a significant proportion of their (Planned Parenthood) clinics that are located in minority communities.

White Liberals respond, “We like black people. We just don’t like so many of them.”

The response of Congressional Black Caucus, NAACP, Urban League, and the National Action Committee of Al Sharpton was a collective, “We’ve got our piece of the pie, why should we share it?”

Sir David King, who was once chief scientific advisor to Prime Ministers Tony Blair and Gordon Brown, is nothing if not inconsistent realistic.

Here’s what he now says about global warming alarmism:

“When people overstate happenings that aren’t necessarily climate change-related, or set up as almost certainties things that are difficult to establish scientifically, it distracts from the science we do understand. The danger is they can be accused of scaremongering. Also, we can all become described as kind of left-wing greens.”
– Sir David King, October 30, 2009

Really, Sir David? You seem to have changed your tune in the last year.

“If all the ice on Greenland were to melt, sea level would rise by seven metres. Is that likely to happen? Well I was saying six years ago unlikely [but] I’m afraid that that’s having to be revised… 80 percent of our human population lives within less than a one metre rise of sea level so imagine the destabilisation of our geopolitical system with a sea level rise of the order of one or two metres. And that is on the cards I’m afraid.”

Welcome to reality, Sir David. Perhaps you could bring a few of your friends next time you visit.

We don’t want to say people don’t like the Vice President, but his popularity has plunged so low that he barely outscores gonorrhea.

The Washington Examiner reports:

Vice President Joe Biden’s favorable rating has fallen to 42 percent in a new Gallup poll, down from a high of 59 percent just after last year’s election. Biden’s unfavorable rating in the new poll is 40 percent, up from 29 percent last November. (Eighteen percent of those surveyed say they have no opinion of Biden.)

Biden’s average favorable rating during his time in office so far is 45 percent — well below the average 65 percent favorable rating for Vice President Dick Cheney during Cheney’s first year in office. Vice President Al Gore’s favorable rating during his first year, 55 percent, was also higher than Biden’s. (Gallup did not measure vice presidential popularity before Gore.)

Biden’s rating has fallen most dramatically among independents. Last November, 55 percent of them had a favorable impression of Biden. Now, it’s 32 percent. Biden’s favorable rating among Democrats is 73 percent, down from 88 percent last December, and among Republicans it is 18 percent, down from 33 percent last year.

On the other hand, Biden is still very popular among columnists and bloggers in need of punch lines.

“It’s like playing chess with a monkey,” said one diplomat close to the talks. “You get them to checkmate, and then they swallow the king.”

Two points:

First, if an American diplomat had uttered those words, he would immediately be removed from his position and forced to apologize for comparing the fine, upstanding mullahs to monkeys.

Second, the idiot Europeans obviously haven’t tried America’s super successful approach. Just give them a big, wide grin and a hearty handshake and insult your own country.

French government now giving away newspapers to buy loyal readers

The French government Tuesday detailed plans of a project called “My Free Newspaper,” under which 18- to 24-year-olds will be offered a free, yearlong subscription to a newspaper of their choice.

A rough translation of the headline: President Obama thinks this would be a good way to control the media
A rough translation of the headline: "President Obama thinks this would be a good way to control the media"

Earlier this year, Democrat Senator Ben Cardin introduced a bill to help struggling newspapers by allowing them to restructure as nonprofits giving them a boatload of tax breaks. Ahhh, but the French government has one-upped Cardin.

Naturally, the story is reported by the New York Times, which would, of course, be one of the primary beneficiaries if a similar plan were to be adopted in the United States:

Newspapers have tried many things to stave off a seemingly relentless decline in readers. Now France is pushing forward with a novel approach: giving away papers to young readers in an effort to turn them into regular customers.

The government Tuesday detailed plans of a project called “My Free Newspaper,” under which 18- to 24-year-olds will be offered a free, yearlong subscription to a newspaper of their choice.

“Winning back young readers is essential for the financial survival of the press, and for its civic dimension,” the culture minister, Frédéric Mitterrand, said.

The project is one of a number of measures, including direct financial subsidies, announced by the government last winter, after a study of the problems facing the newspaper industry.

About 60 publications are participating in the new project. In addition to papers like Le Monde and Le Figaro, they include a variety of local publications, as well as the Paris-based International Herald Tribune, the global edition of The New York Times. Even L’Équipe, a popular sports daily, is taking part.

Where the hell are the Democrats on this issue? C’mon, man, we want our free newspapers. We already have our free food, free rent, free cars, and free cell phones.

It’s a right. We’re pretty sure it’s in the Constitution. Isn’t that what they meant when they talked about freedom of the press?
