First deaths attributed directly to global warming

A seven-month-old girl miraculously survived alone for three days after one of her parents shot her in the chest – apparently as part of a bizarre murder-suicide pact blamed on global warming.

Thumbs up, Loteros! If global warming won’t kill people, darn it, they’ll just have to kill themselves.

Our alternate headline for this story was “Al Gore involved in murder-suicide pact.”

The New York Daily News reports the truly tragic result of global warming hysteria:

A seven-month-old girl miraculously survived alone for three days after one of her parents shot her in the chest – apparently as part of a bizarre murder-suicide pact blamed on global warming.

The baby was discovered with a bullet casing in her chest and covered with blood by police in the Argentinean city of Goya, near the bodies of her parents and 2-year-old brother, the Latin American Herald reported Saturday.

Police broke into the home after neighbors complained of a stench coming from the house. The boy was found with a gunshot wound in his back, while his parents died from gunshot wounds to the chest.

The parents, 56-year-old Francisco Lotero and 23-year-old Miriam Coletti, are believed to have been spurred by their fears about global climate change, London’s Telegraph reported.

A letter was found on a table expressing the couple’s anger at the government for not responding to the environmental crisis.

As a result of these tragic and truly needless deaths, we can no longer say Teddy Kennedy’s car has killed more people than global warming has.

So we bid a fond farewell to Lotero family and a great bumper sticker.

October 16, 2009: Moscow mayor promises a winter without snow.
February 23, 2010: Never mind

Remember back in October when the mayor of Moscow proudly announced that Russia had learned to control the weather and that no snow would fall in Moscow this winter?

Remember back in October when the mayor of Moscow proudly announced that Russia had learned to control the weather and that no snow would fall in Moscow this winter?

Here’s how Time Magazine told the wintery tale:

Pigs still can’t fly, but this winter, the mayor of Moscow promises to keep it from snowing. For just a few million dollars, the mayor’s office will hire the Russian Air Force to spray a fine chemical mist over the clouds before they reach the capital, forcing them to dump their snow outside the city. Authorities say this will be a boon for Moscow, which is typically covered with a blanket of snow from November to March. Road crews won’t need to constantly clear the streets, and traffic — and quality of life — will undoubtedly improve.

As the BBC reports, that was then, this is now:

Thousands of snow-clearing machines have been working to dig the Russian capital Moscow out of a record-breaking fall of 63cm (nearly 25 inches).

After a weekend of heavy snow showers, the regional weather centre announced that the previous record of 62cm, set in 1966, had been broken.

…In all, about 15,000 snow-clearing machines were deployed in the city of about 10.5 million people, backed by 8,500 dump trucks and about 5,500 street-sweeping personnel.

Quick. Someone check to see if Al Gore has been in Moscow. This has all the signs of the Gore Effect.

Al Gore shows up at Apple shareholder meeting, becomes a laughingstock

At an Apple shareholder meeting, Al Gore “has become a laughingstock. The glaciers have not melted,” Sheldon said, referring to Gore’s views on global warming.

A billion dollars in the bank and he's still the fat kid who gets picked on by all the cool kids

$1,000,000 to the first reader who can tell us what’s wrong with that headline. Oh, sorry, time’s up.

The answer is, Al Gore didn’t become a laughingstock at the Apple meeting. The guy’s always been a laughingstock.

CNET reports the continuing disintegration of the Gore lore:

The presence of one of the world’s pre-eminent environmentalists at Apple’s shareholder meeting Thursday was the subject of much of the morning’s pointed discussion.

As expected, Apple’s attitude on environmental and sustainability issues was one of the main concerns of the stockholders present Thursday, followed closely by the company’s immense pile of cash. But early harsh comments about former Vice President Al Gore’s record set the tone.

Gore was seated in the first row, along with his six fellow board members, in Apple’s Town Hall auditorium as several stockholders took turns either bashing or praising his high-profile views on climate change.

At the first opportunity for audience participation just several minutes into the proceeding, a longtime and well-known Apple (AAPL) shareholder–some would say gadfly–who introduced himself as Sheldon, stood at the microphone and urged against Gore’s re-election to the board. Gore “has become a laughingstock. The glaciers have not melted,” Sheldon said, referring to Gore’s views on global warming. “If his advice he gives to Apple is as faulty as his views on the environment then he doesn’t need to be re-elected.”

While this attitude might crush the spirit of lesser men, it is not expected to bother Gore. Not being elected is nothing new to him.

Global warming causes smaller trees. Except when it causes larger ones.

The Washington Post wins this week’s Alarmism-In-Action award for blaming global warming for larger trees and smaller trees in the same article.

This is the future of our redwood forests unless we spend trillions of dollars now

It’s well documented that the global warming crowd blames global warming for absolutely everything, no matter how illogical those claims may be.

But the Washington Post wins this week’s Alarmism-In-Action award for blaming global warming for larger trees and smaller trees in the same article.

First the larger trees:

Parker’s data, which showed the trunks gradually fattening over time, indicated that many of the trees were growing two to four times faster than expected. That raised questions about climate change’s impact on the age-old rhythms of U.S. forests.

But enough about those darn larger trees. What about the smaller ones?

In the tropics, however, some studies have seemed to show trees growing more slowly: It might now be too hot for some trees there.

Excellent work, WaPo. Clear some space in the lobby, because we have a feeling that there’s another Pulitzer Prize coming your way very soon.

Global warming causes killer droughts. Except when it doesn’t.

Global warming causes killer droughts. Except when it doesn’t.

got water? Here’s another hilarious “oops“ moment from the people who brought you the global warming scam:

First, from the Guardian UK one year ago this month:

The world’s pre-eminent climate scientists produced a blunt assessment of the impact of global warming on the US yesterday, warning of droughts that could reduce the American south-west to a wasteland and heat waves that could make life impossible even in northern cities.

In an update on the latest science on climate change, the US Congress was told that melting snow pack could lead to severe drought from California to Oklahoma. In the midwest, diminishing rains and shrinking rivers were lowering water levels in the Great Lakes, even to the extent where it could affect shipping.

“With severe drought from California to Oklahoma, a broad swath of the south-west is basically robbed of having a sustainable lifestyle,” said Christopher Field, of the Carnegie Institution for Science. He went on to warn of scorching temperatures in an array of cities. Sacramento in California, for example, could face heatwaves for up to 100 days a year.

“We are close to a threshold in a very large number of American cities where uncomfortable heat waves make cities uninhabitable,” Field told the Senate’s environment and public works committee.

Oops. Here’s a report from ABC News this month:

In the span of just a couple years, the U.S. has gone from very high drought conditions to the lowest amount of drought in the last 10 years, [Doug LeCompte of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association] says. “It’s only a few times, really, in the last century that we’ve had this little of the country in drought. That is unusual.”

But please, we beseech you, remember the words of global warming proponents: Weather is not climate.

And then remember the corollary: Global warming is not reality.

That sound you hear is Al Gore sobbing: Only 35% still believe in man-made global warming

"Nooooooooooooooooooooooo!"

A new Rasmussen study that shows only 35% of Americans still believe in man-made global warming. When you subtract out all the people who make money off this colossal scam, we estimate that the resulting figure is about 2%.

Here are the details from Rasmussen:

Questions continue to mount over the science behind years of studies that say humans are chiefly to blame for global warming. But reflecting a trend that has been going on for more than a year, just 35% of U.S. voters now believe global warming is caused primarily by human activity.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 47% think long-term planetary trends are mostly to blame, down three points from the previous survey in January. Eight percent say there is some other reason, and 10% aren’t sure.

But 56% say President Obama still believes that human activity is the main cause of global warming. That’s the highest finding on that question since last March. The president went to a United Nations summit in Copenhagen in December in hopes of reaching an international agreement that would limit human activities that some scientists say contribute to global warming.

Thirty-five percent? Hell, Al, you could find a higher percentage of people who believe in flying saucers. And with good reason.

Donald Trump thinks Al Gore should be stripped of his fraudulently-obtained Nobel Peace Prize, an opinion that will not endear him to any of Hollywood’s greenies.

Naturally, the love Al Gore in the land of make believe. So a couple more comments like this one and they’ll run the star of television’s “The Apprentice” right out of Tinseltown.

The New York Post reports Trump’s comments:

“With the coldest winter ever recorded, with snow setting record levels up and down the coast, the Nobel committee should take the Nobel Prize back from Al Gore,” the tycoon told members of his Trump National Golf Club in Westchester in a recent speech. “Gore wants us to clean up our factories and plants in order to protect us from global warming, when China and other countries couldn’t care less. It would make us totally noncompetitive in the manufacturing world, and China, Japan and India are laughing at America’s stupidity.” The crowd of 500 stood up and cheered.

Next time you’re out in Hollywood, Donald, maybe you could suggest that Gore return his Oscar, too.

You’d have made a small fortune if you’d been at the thoroughbred horse races in the lovely little town of Naracoorte, South Australia the other day. Because you would have mortgaged your house to get enough money to bet on one horse in the second race.

The Descent of Mann (with apologies to Charles Darwin)

If you want an accurate forecast on global climate change, you need to stick your head somewhere else – like a Michael Mann lecture.

Michael Mann has learned that several feet of snow trumps several years of bullshit

If you want an accurate weather forecast, just stick your head out the window.

If you want an accurate forecast on global climate change, you need to stick your head somewhere else – like a Michael Mann lecture.

Except when frigid temperatures (the result of global warming) and record amounts of snow (also the result of global warming) cancel the performance…uhhhh… the colloquium on climate change.

Mann, Penn State climatologist and lead suspect in the ClimateGate controversy, was slated to tell students at the University of Penn how the world was growing hotter. But according to an email to Instapundit, Mann’s colloquium has been cancelled for the most ironic of reasons:

“Today, Michael Mann was scheduled to give a colloquium on climate change at the University of Pennsylvania, where I am a graduate student. As you may know, Philadelphia has been hit by multiple snowstorms in the past week. Today, for what I am told is the first time since the mid-1990s, the university suspended normal operations due to snow, and his colloquium on climate change has been postponed.”

University officials are currently beseeching Gaia for mercy so that they can re-schedule the lecture.

Bill Nye, the you’re-unpatriotic-if-you-don’t-believe-in-global-warming-science guy

What could possibly make for better entertainment than Rachel Maddow giving a forum to pop science icon Bill Nye on global warming?

What could possibly make for better entertainment than Rachel Maddow giving a forum to pop science icon Bill Nye?

Nye reveals a unique scientific theory that says believing in the science behind global warming is patriotic. And vice versa.

“…there’s more energy in the atmosphere and this is stirring things up,” Nye said. “If you want to get serious about it, these guys claiming that the snow in Washington disproves climate change are almost unpatriotic. It’s really, they’re denying science. So they’re very happy to have the weather forecast be accurate within a few hours, but they’re displeased or un-enchanted by predictions of the world getting warmer. It’s really, it shakes me up.”

We think Rachel Maddow may have said something, too, but we had really kind of checked out by that time.

Global warming causes more snow. Except when it causes less snow. And that’s a scientific fact.

Always remember that whatever it is, it’s caused by global warming. For example, here are two video clips. In the first one, we’re told that global warming causes more snow. In the second one, we’re told that global warming causes less snow.

Global warming causes earthquakes and tsunamis and, apparently, liberal stupidity

Joy Behar and Eve Ensler discuss how global warming causes earthquakes and tsunamis. And while we’re at it, Sarah Palin is stupid.

You can always count on Joy Behar and her guests to say something so stunningly stupid that you find yourself laughing out loud.

Like last night, for example. Eve Ensler, author of “The Vagina Monologues,” visited Behar’s studio to stake her claim on Stupidest Comment of the Year here in early February.

A transcript follows, but let us sum it up for you. Global warming causes earthquakes and tsunamis. And while we’re at it, Sarah Palin is stupid.

Ensler: Well, I just think the idea that she doesn’t believe in global warming is bizarre.
Behar: Every scientist at every note believes in it but Sarah Palin doesn’t believe in it.
Ensler: And I think we just kind of have to walk around the world at this point and look at what is happening to nature and earthquakes and tsunamis.
Behar: Right.
Ensler: And weather changes to just feel it. But I think that idea that she doesn’t believe in global warming and she could actually run for vice president, and we have a country where that is possible, it seems insane.
Behar: It’s unbelievable. It does seem insane and the fact that she has not negated the possibility of running in 2012.
Ensler: But we have. We have negated the possibility of her winning.

100% pure geniuses.

Obama admistration unveils new global warming tracking service during worst blizzard in decades

The Obama administration debuts its new NOAA global warming track service during the worst blizzard in decades.

There are times you just know that God has a sense of humor. Like when the Obama administration debuts its new NOAA global warming track service during the worst blizzard in decades.

CleanSkies.com reveals the chilly details:

Commerce Secretary Gary Locke has proposed the creation of an NOAA Climate Service, an office of the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration that would unify all the agency’s climate science and data.

Locke said the office would integrate the agency’s climate science and services and make them more accessible.

“By providing critical planning information that our businesses and our communities need, NOAA Climate Service will help tackle head-on the challenges of mitigating and adapting to climate change,” said Locke. “In the process, we’ll discover new technologies, build new businesses and create new jobs.”

The office would coordinate data collected by NOAA researchers throughout the world, including predictions about both short- and long-term global changes and information on how U.S. resources can best be used to adapt to climate change and produce renewable energy.

Unfortunately, very few reporters were able to attend Locke’s press conference because two feet of snow had not yet been cleared from the roads around Washington, DC.

Noted global warming expert RFK, Jr. predicted that Washington, DC might never see snow again

The pathetically unprophetic Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. wrote a column last year in which he bemoaned global warming and suggested that children of the future might never see snow again.

Record levels of global warming piled up in Washington, DC this weekend

The pathetically unprophetic Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. wrote a column last year in which he bemoaned global warming and suggested that children of the future might never see snow again.

As this weekend’s mammoth blizzard proves, RFK, Jr. is a highly-qualified global warming expert and fully prepared to serve on the IPCC (in case you didn’t recognize it, that’s what’s known in journalistic circles as sarcasm).

The Washington Examiner reports the chilling details:

Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who flies around on private planes so as to tell larger numbers of people how they must live their lives in order to save the planet, wrote a column last year on the lack of winter weather in Washington, D.C.

In Virginia, the weather also has changed dramatically. Recently arrived residents in the northern suburbs, accustomed to today’s anemic winters, might find it astonishing to learn that there were once ski runs on Ballantrae Hill in McLean, with a rope tow and local ski club. Snow is so scarce today that most Virginia children probably don’t own a sled. But neighbors came to our home at Hickory Hill nearly every winter weekend to ride saucers and Flexible Flyers.

In those days, I recall my uncle, President Kennedy, standing erect as he rode a toboggan in his top coat, never faltering until he slid into the boxwood at the bottom of the hill. Once, my father, Atty. Gen. Robert Kennedy, brought a delegation of visiting Eskimos home from the Justice Department for lunch at our house. They spent the afternoon building a great igloo in the deep snow in our backyard. My brothers and sisters played in the structure for several weeks before it began to melt. On weekend afternoons, we commonly joined hundreds of Georgetown residents for ice skating on Washington’s C&O Canal, which these days rarely freezes enough to safely skate.

Meanwhile, Exxon Mobil and its carbon cronies continue to pour money into think tanks whose purpose is to deceive the American public into believing that global warming is a fantasy.

Throw another log on the fire, RFK, Jr., or all this global warming fantasy will freeze your ass off.

Global warming update: Hypocrite Prince Charles calls opponents liars

Prince Charles isn’t quite the global warming hypocrite Al Gore is. But he’s working on it.

The un-peripatetic prince traveled to Manchester to give a global warming speech aboard the Royal Train, pulled across the British countryside by a pollution-spewing, coal-fired steam locomotive.

Rather than bore you with the details, here are a few quotes ClimateGate.com pulled from the story:

“I have watched with growing dismay and alarm the glee with which the sceptics have leapt upon the recent news stories that question the science that climate change is man-made and suggesting it is nothing more than a myth.”

“Well, if it is but a myth, and the global scientific community is involved in some sort of conspiracy, why is it then that around the globe sea levels are more than six inches higher than they were 100 years ago?”

“This isn’t an opinion – it is a fact.”

“And, ladies and gentlemen please be in no doubt that the evidence of long-term and potentially irreversible changes to our world is utterly overwhelming.”

“But I trust we do all know that these wonderful innovations [steam engines] carried with them a long-term cost that nobody at the time could possibly have foreseen.”

“I don’t know about you, ladies and gentlemen, but I happen to mind very much about the sort of world in which my children and grandchildren – and yours – will be living.”

“For all of them, I believe we have a great responsibility to do the right thing by them and so I, for one, am not prepared to play some sort of Russian roulette with their futures.”

Charles has had a busy year saving the world. He was busted in early 2009 for chartering multiple private jets to fly his entourage to the Amazon for one of his hypocritical global warming lectures. And a few weeks ago he upped the ante by once again chartering private jets fly to the Copenhagen Global Warming Circus & Freak Show.

Prince Charles, King of Hypocrites. Whoever invented the phrase “royal pain in the ass” must have been thinking of this guy.

Headline of the Day: Daughter blames mother for global warming

My daughter complains that I flatulate more often than most individuals. Furthermore, she claims that the gas an individual passes contributes to global warming. I don’t know if I am physically able to keep my gas to myself to go green. Is my daughter really right?

In our role as Media Watchdogs (hey, did we hear laughter out there?) we’ve learned that there are advice columns and then there are advice columns.

The St Louis Post-Dispatch features a medical column by Dr. Paul Donohue in which a recent reader question went, shall we say, over the line.

Dear Dr. Donohue — My daughter complains that I flatulate more often than most individuals. Furthermore, she claims that the gas an individual passes contributes to global warming. I don’t know if I am physically able to keep my gas to myself to go green. Is my daughter really right?

The way we see it, there are only two choices: either she goes green or everyone around her turns green.

The Guardian UK has the story of Rajendra Pachauri, head of the IPCC, which got caught flat out lying about the fate of the world’s glaciers

Rajendra Pachauri
Rajendra Pachauri, chairman of the IPCC and congenital liar

The make believe world of global warming doesn’t work like the rest of the world. Not at all.

In the real world, you get fired from your job if it’s discovered that all the reports you’ve written are nonsense. But in the FantasyLand of global warming, you keep your job and attack those who reveal your perfidy.

The Guardian UK has the story of Rajendra Pachauri, head of the IPCC, which got caught flat out lying about the fate of the world’s glaciers:

The embattled chief of the UN’s climate change body has hit out at his critics and refused to resign or apologise for a damaging mistake in a landmark 2007 report on global warming.

In an exclusive interview with the Guardian, Dr Rajendra Pachauri, chair of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, said it would be hypocritical to apologise for the false claim that Himalayan glaciers could melt away by 2035, because he was not personally responsible for that part of the report. “You can’t expect me to be personally responsible for every word in a 3,000 page report,” he said.

The IPCC issued a statement that expressed regret for the mistake, but Pachauri said a personal apology would be a “populist” step.

“I don’t do too many populist things, that’s why I’m so unpopular with a certain section of society,” he said.

Of course, that “certain section of society” to which Pachauri refers includes all honest people who aren’t ripping off the world’s taxpayers for billions of dollars.

IHateTheMedia.com gets a message from global warming scientist Koko Warner

Koko Warner actually commented on our story, “Latest laughable U.N. global warming claim: 50 million may be displaced by 2010.”

Back in August, 2009 we did an article headlined “Latest laughable U.N. global warming claim: 50 million may be displaced by 2010.”

The scarefest, written by Koko Warner, a senior U.N. researcher at the loftily-named U.N. University Institute for Environment & Human Society, claims 25-50 million people will be become refugees as climate change unleashes more natural disasters and slashes farm output.

Koko actually commented on our story. He said, “Welcome feedback, of course…but I did want to reply that our report is on the conservative side in terms of exploring what kinds of impacts environmental change could have on migration and displacement. We worked with institutions like Columbia University, CARE International, the United Nations High Commission for Refugees, the International Organization for Migration, and many other research and humanitarian organizations on this report. There is a lot more written on the topic if anyone is interested in learning more.”

Got that? Koko has upped the ante. Now he says 50,000,000 displaced people may be a conservative estimate.

With that in mind, we present cartoon pioneer Max Fleischer’s “Koko’s Earth Control” from 1928.

Shocker: Authoritarian Chinese government complains that IPCC censors are too authoritarian

“Amid controversy surrounding the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report on melting glaciers, Xie Zhenhua, Vice-Chairman of China’s National Development and Reform Commission, today urged the UN panel to make the fifth assessment report comprehensive by also citing contrarian views.”

Call this one another nail in the coffin of global warming. The Chinese government, never known for endorsing open communication, has called on the UN’s IPCC to show more tolerance for dissent.

Business Standard reports the duplicitious details:

“Amid controversy surrounding the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report on melting glaciers, Xie Zhenhua, Vice-Chairman of China’s National Development and Reform Commission, today urged the UN panel to make the fifth assessment report comprehensive by also citing contrarian views.”

Is it hypocrisy? Or honesty? Or both?

IPCC Chairman Rajendra Pachauri is only human

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s (IPCC) has gone into full damage control mode after it was revealed that the Himalayan glaciers will not, in fact, be melting by 2035 and that the IPCC knew its prediction that they would was a complete fabrication.

Calls for the resignation of IPCC Chairman Rajendra Pachauri have been made. But Jean-Pascal van Ypersele, the IPCC’s Vice Chairman is looking for some sympathy instead, falling back on  the frequently-used excuse that their mistakes were “only human.”

Golfer Tiger Woods cheated on his wife repeatedly, but he's only human

The UK Telegraph reports:

“Aren’t mistakes human? Even the IPCC is a human institution and I do not know of any human institution that does not make mistakes, so of course it is a regrettable incident that we published that wrong description of the Himalayan glacier,” van Ypersele said.”We are trying to do our best, we are going to reinforce the review procedures so the probability in the next report of such incidents happening is even lower. But to guarantee a zero fault product is probably not possible for any human enterprise,” he said.

Of course, it’s understandable, Mr. van Ypersele. Everyone makes mistakes. It’s just appreciated that you’re trying your best on these life-changing issues. You get an “A” for effort, buddy. But just so you don’t feel like you’re alone in this situation, rest assured that some other prominent people also made the news recently for being human:

According to TheIndian.com, Tiger Woods said, “I’m human, and I’m not perfect.”

And according to TheCount.com, girlfriend-beating singer Chris Brown said, “I’m human and I make mistakes.”

We regret to inform you of the death of two cherished liberal myths

January, 2020: Cuban worker commuting to his job in the tobacco fields

Remarkably cold weather killed twenty-six patients in a Cuban mental hospital this week. It also killed two liberal myths.

The Washington Times reports the deadly details:

Twenty-six patients at Cuba’s largest hospital for the mentally ill died this week during a cold snap, the government said Friday.

Human rights leaders cited negligence and a lack of resources as factors in the deaths, and the Health Ministry launched an investigation that it said could lead to criminal proceedings.

A Health Ministry communique read on state television blamed “prolonged low temperatures that fell to 38 degrees Fahrenheit (4 Celsius) in Boyeros,” the neighborhood where Havana’s Psychiatric Hospital is located.

It said most of the deaths were from natural causes such as old age, respiratory infections and complications from chronic diseases including cancer and cardiovascular problems.

The statement came in response to reports from the independent Cuban Commission on Human Rights that at least 24 mental patients died of hypothermia this week, and that the hospital did not do enough to protect them from the cold because of problems such as faulty windows.

It’s so sad when you lose those you hold most dear. Not the patients, the liberal myths.

Liberal Myth #1 – The bizarre claim that Cuba’s healthcare system is superior to America’s. When was the last time you read a story about mental patients dying of hypothermia in the United States, even in climates far colder than Cuba’s?

Liberal Myth #2 – Global warming. For god’s sake, man, if people are freezing to death in tropical climes like Cuba, global warming is the least of our worries.
