Why squander your presidency on trying to turn an economically moribund feudal backwater into a functioning nation state when you can turn a functioning nation state into an economically moribund feudal backwater?
“Obama’s priorities lie not in the Hindu Kush but in America: Why squander your presidency on trying to turn an economically moribund feudal backwater into a functioning nation state when you can turn a functioning nation state into an economically moribund feudal backwater?”
Michael Moore may hate capitalism, but he’s learned a valuable lesson by making Capitalism. That is, you can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make it drink.
Hey, Michael, how’s the box office for your latest movie?
Michael Moore may hate capitalism, but he’s learned a valuable lesson by making Capitalism. That is, you can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make it drink. Or its Hollywood corollary, you can lead a whore to water, but you can’t make her drink. But we digress.
What Moore has learned is that no one wants to see a film that calls for the destruction of a system that made it possible for that film to be made.
The total box office for “Capitalism” dropped 39% this weekend despite playing in an additional 33 theaters. This weekend’s total box office was a mere $2,700,000 and the total two week take is just $9,095,000.
Think about it this way: At $10 per ticket, that means only 270,000 people saw “Capitalism” this weekend. That works out to 271 people per theater. Figure three showings per day Friday, Saturday and Sunday, that means a sad, sad average of 30 people paid to see each showing of Capitalism.
Of course, this is Hollywood. So a documentary that’s full of lies and distortions that no one want to see, well, that’s surefire Oscar material.

Thomas Friedman of the New York Times thinks Obama should accept the Nobel Peace Prize on behalf of the American military. Hey, wait. Is this April 1?
Ssssssh! Don't tell any of Thomas Friedman's liberal friends that he supports the American military
Thomas Friedman of the New York Times thinks Obama should accept the Nobel Peace Prize on behalf of the American military.
Hey, wait. Is this April 1? Nope. Just checked the calendar and it’s October 14. The only other option is that Friedman has had an extremely rare moment of clarity.
What follows are words you never thought you’d see from Friedman and/or the Times:
Let me begin by thanking the Nobel committee for awarding me this prize, the highest award to which any statesman can aspire. As I said on the day it was announced, ‘I do not feel that I deserve to be in the company of so many of the transformative figures who’ve been honored by this prize.’ Therefore, upon reflection, I cannot accept this award on my behalf at all.
But I will accept it on behalf of the most important peacekeepers in the world for the last century — the men and women of the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps.
I will accept this award on behalf of the American soldiers who landed on Omaha Beach on June 6, 1944, to liberate Europe from the grip of Nazi fascism. I will accept this award on behalf of the American soldiers and sailors who fought on the high seas and forlorn islands in the Pacific to free East Asia from Japanese tyranny in the Second World War.
… Until the words of Isaiah are made true and lasting — and nations never again lift up swords against nations and never learn war anymore — we will need peacekeepers. Lord knows, ours are not perfect, and I have already moved to remedy inexcusable excesses we’ve perpetrated in the war on terrorism.
But have no doubt, those are the exception. If you want to see the true essence of America, visit any U.S. military outpost in Iraq or Afghanistan. You will meet young men and women of every race and religion who work together as one, far from their families, motivated chiefly by their mission to keep the peace and expand the borders of freedom.
So for all these reasons — and so you understand that I will never hesitate to call on American soldiers where necessary to take the field against the enemies of peace, tolerance and liberty — I accept this peace prize on behalf of the men and women of the U.S. military: the world’s most important peacekeepers.
Thomas Friggin’ Friedman supports the U. S. military? Proof positive that there is a God.
It was a very weird, but very consistent day. At the same time NBC has cancelled “Southland” before it ever aired, Barack Obama was given a Nobel Peace Prize prior to accomplishing anything to deserve it.
Southland didn't deserve what it got. Neither did Barack Obama.
It was a very weird, but very consistent day. At the same time NBC has cancelled “Southland” before it ever aired, Barack Obama was given a Nobel Peace Prize prior to accomplishing anything to deserve it.
Jay Leno’s comment on the cancellation story was, “NBC’s ratings aren’t so hot. In fact — and this is true — this week the network canceled the show ‘Southland’ before it even came back on the air. Next thing you know they’ll be canceling shows before writers can even think of them.”
Had Leno done a Nobel Peace Prize version it would have said, “Barack Obama’s approval ratings aren’t so hot. In fact – and this is true – today the Nobel committee gave the President the Nobel Peace Prize before he’s actually accomplished anything. Next thing you know they’ll be giving Presidents awards before they’re even elected.”
What’s that? Obama was nominated two weeks prior to his inauguration? So the prize couldn’t possibly be based on anything he’s done? Hmmmm.
Congratulations, President Obama. We’re sure you’re proud to be take your place alongside other peaceful men like Yassar Arafat.
Al Gore showed up a global warming conference in Wisconsin. Unfortunately for the former Veep, so did Phelim McAleer, who has just produced a documentary that exposes all the lies contained in Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth
Al Gore showed up a global warming conference in Wisconsin. Unfortunately for the former Veep, so did Phelim McAleer, who has just produced a documentary that exposes all the lies contained in Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth.
When Gore tries to deflect and disengage, McAleer has the temerity to challenge him with follow-up questions. Why, the nerve of that cheeky little Limey.
So the organizers did what any self-respecting global warming fanatic would do – they cut off McAleer’s microphone.
Not Evil Just Wrong, McAleer’s documentary, premieres on October 18. We’re sure he’d welcome you and Al Gore to show up and ask questions.
Just try, if you can, to imagine the chagrin suffered by CNN when it has to report a story about Fox News. Even worse, imagine its complete humiliation when it has to stage group discussions about Fox.
Just try, if you can, to imagine the chagrin suffered by CNN when it has to report a story about Fox News. Even worse, imagine its complete humiliation when it has to stage group discussions about Fox.
For example, when the White House declares Fox News to be the enemy. Then imagine the entire panel agreeing with David Gergen and saying that Obama’s attack on Fox News “is a risky strategy and it’s not one I would advocate.”
Luckily, CNN’s embarrassment will be minimized by the fact that no one saw the discussion because all the network’s former viewers now watch Fox.
What was CNN thinking when they did a “fact check” on a Saturday Night Live skit that criticized President Obama? What were they thinking?
Toonces the driving cat doesn’t wear a seatbelt!
What was CNN thinking when they did a “fact check” on a Saturday Night Live skit that criticized President Obama? What were they thinking?
The so-called news network’s absurd “fact check” of a comedy skit has deservedly become the butt of an on-going joke on Twitter.
The basic idea? If CNN is going to fact check the President Obama skit, they must be fact checking other SNL skits, too.
For example:
@DefiantKembro ‘El Nino’ is not Spanish for “the Nino” #CNNFactCheck
@EnasYorl “Wayne’s World” was not really a public access cable show. #CNNfactcheck
@ArielAkiva The superfans were not actually having heart attacks. #cnnfactcheck
@thecomeback After checking every river in America, we have not been able to find a motivational speaker living in a van. #CNNfactcheck
@jeffdobbs: Over half of Saturday Night Live is NOT ON SATURDAY NIGHT for Eastern time zone. Outrage. #CNNFactCheck
@jkfecke In fact, Blue Öyster Cult never included a cowbell player named Gene Frenkle–the musician didn’t exist. #CNNFactCheck
@mikehassinger: This just in: “Toonces the driving cat” not real cat, can’t even DRIVE! #CNNFactCheck
This is citizen journalism at its finest. OK, second finest after a certain smartass political commentary site that modesty prohibits us from mentioning.
Nader’s unintentionally hilarious novel is called “Only the Super-Rich Can Save Us!” No. Seriously. That’s what it’s called. And it’s everything you could hope for from perennial presidential candidate and left wing lunatic.
Who buys this crap? Nader's novel is currently #488 on Amazon's list of bestselling books.
Nader’s unintentionally hilarious novel is called “Only the Super-Rich Can Save Us!” No. Seriously. That’s what it’s called. And it’s everything you could hope for from perennial presidential candidate and left wing lunatic.
First of all, it’s long. 736 ponderous pages long. And it’s all about super-rich lefties banding together to save the world by turning America into a European-style welfare state. (May we suggest that you read it now, while it’s still fiction.)
Here’s how the Wall Street Journal reviews this instant classic:
Here, for instance, is an actual passage from “Only the Super-Rich Can Save Us!”: “As promised, Ted Turner and Phil Donahue had put their heads together to brainstorm about a mascot for the group’s efforts. Ted’s thoughts naturally ran along avian lines, and it wasn’t long before they hit on the idea of a parrot. . . . Patriotic Polly hit the airwaves in fifteen-second spots shown on thousands of stations, and it was an immediate smash.”
The parrot, see, appears on TV and squawks, “Get up! Don’t let America down!” Then there’s an email address for viewers to use to join the movement to redirect America. Which the viewers do, and off we go.
Because that’s what it takes, really, to get America to agree with you, according to Ralph Nader: a parrot, a couple of TV spots, some billionaire’s cash. Why so easy? The premise of the novel is that ordinary people love Ralph Nader’s politics. They all agree with his progressive, left-wing agenda—even though, for some reason, they didn’t vote for him, in huge numbers, in two presidential elections. But with a little Hollywood pixie dust and some community-organizing money, the entire grocery list of left-wing causes from 1960 to 2009 can be enacted. The whole story is presented with such sweet earnestness that it almost seems mean to laugh at it. Almost.
Ahhhh, we’ve missed you, Ralphie. Presidential elections just don’t come around often enough for us to get our fix of Naderisms.
Missouri Democrat Ike Skelton, Chairman of the Armed Services Committee, must have missed his fellow Democrats’ demand for decorum on the floor of the House.
Obviously thinking his microphone had been turned off, he turned to Missouri Republican Todd Akin and said “stick it up your ass.”

We can only hope that Skelton chooses not to demonstrate why Missouri is called “the Show Me State.”
Bill Maher wants President Obama to repeal “don’t ask, don’t tell” regulations just to drive the right wing crazy.
Bill Maher wants President Obama to repeal “don’t ask, don’t tell” regulations just to drive the right wing crazy.
But who are we to paraphrase Maher’s brilliance. Let’s have him explain it in his own words:
“Because here’s the thing about today’s conservatives: They’re not bright. They can’t keep a lot of ideas in their head at once. And by ‘a lot’ I mean ‘two.’ If we can get them all worked up about fighting the gay menace, it will siphon away all that crazy, right wing, town-hall energy from all the other big issues they’ve been fighting.”
Then Bill went what we politely refer to as totally off the deep end.
“Health care and the environment are complicated, but it’s not hard to keep track of the places that God allows you to put your pee-pee. I mean, you can count those places on one hand. And that hand isn’t something you should be using either. A year ago, if you had asked your average wing-nut neighbor what he thought about health care reform, he would have shrugged his shoulders and gone right back to eating his Moon Pie. But he’s pissed-off about it now, why? Because it’s in their nature to be pissed-off. They have a pre-existing condition called the Conniption Fits. The tea-baggers have taught us all an important lesson in modern politics: If you want to be taken seriously, act like a fucking loony-tune.”
Under the circumstances, Bill, we take you very, very seriously.
That’s right. Mrs-O.org is promoting a contest in which you can win $150 for dressing a digital Michelle Obama in the best combination of fashion items.
You could dress her as a fearless First Lady. Or as a hospital Vice President plotting a patient dumping scheme. Dress her for an America-hatin’ Sunday morning in Reverend Wright’s church. Dress her for a date night in New York city at the taxpayer’s expense. Why, the possibilities are virtually endless.
In what can only be considered a major fashion faux pas, the list of fashion items includes neither a burka nor a linebacker uniform.
Frédéric Mitterrand, the French culture minister and the first major political figure to leap to the defense of Roman Polanski, admitted in his autobiography that he paid “young boys” for sex
Never trust a man who poses for photos like Frédéric Mitterrand
Frédéric Mitterrand, the French culture minister and the first major political figure to leap to the defense of Roman Polanski, admitted in his autobiography that he paid “young boys” for sex while he was traveling in Thailand.
Here’s how the Guardian UK reports the story:
Mitterrand’s impassioned comments in support of Polanski, who had initially faces charges of rape, and against an “a frightening America”, were controversial and the French government eventually distanced itself.
But Mitterrand’s critics on the political extreme right and the left have now questioned his suitability for office over his self-confessed penchant for “young boys” in Bangkok.
In his bestselling autobiographical work, The Bad Life, published in 2005, Mitterrand describes travelling round Thailand, confessing: “I got into the habit of paying for boys”.
He wrote of his attraction to young male prostitutes despite knowing “the sordid details” of the sex trade. “All these rituals of the market for youths, the slave market excited me enormously … the abundance of very attractive and immediately available young boys put me in a state of desire.”
We’re tired of all the talk about President Obama and the Nobel Peace Prize. Let’s talk instead about another fine, upstanding black man who has been unfairly denied the same honor for far too long.
Blah, blah, blah. We’re tired of all the talk about President Obama and the Nobel Peace Prize. Let’s talk instead about another fine, upstanding black man who has been unfairly denied the same honor for far too long.
We beg, we beseech, we implore, we demand that the Nobel Prize Committee right this long-standing wrong.
Give the damn award to Rodney King. And give it now.
Is it just us or does Bill O’Reilly get just a little too enthusiastic in telling Michele Bachmann that she and Sarah Palin are very attractive women. Settle down, big fella, settle down.

“After the season in which I hit 37 home runs, I asked Pittsburgh Pirate general manager Branch Rickey for a raise. He refused.
‘I led the league in homers,’ I reminded him.
‘Where did we finish?’ Rickey asked me.
‘Last,’ I replied.
‘Well,’ Rickey said, ‘We can finish last without you.’”
This sounds like one of those “The Pope, a rabbi and an imam were stranded in a boat” jokes, but it’s not. Naturally, it comes from England.
Tripod, a 3-legged cat that has absolutely nothing to do with this story.
This sounds like one of those “The Pope, a rabbi and an imam were stranded in a boat” jokes, but it’s not. Naturally, it comes from England.
Let’s just let the Daily Mail UK explain it:
A gay man tried to poison his lesbian neighbours by putting slug pellets into their curry after he was accused of kidnapping their three-legged cat.
Gary Stewart, 37, had been at loggerheads with Marie Walton and Beverley Sales for months.
But things looked brighter when he made a peace offering of some curry, claiming he had ordered too much from the Indian takeaway.
When the women started to eat, they found the curry studded with slug pellets.
They called the police and Stewart was arrested.
He appeared before magistrates in Manchester where he admitted attempting to poison the two women on September 22.
He denied a further charge of making threats to kill.
Last night it emerged that Miss Walton, a full-time mother, and Miss Sales, a goods vehicle driver, had been the victims of an apparent hate campaign by Stewart at their home in Denton, Manchester.
Stewart is even alleged to have kidnapped the family’s three-legged cat, Amber, and dumped her in a village miles away.
There’s nothing we can add to this story. Absolutely nothing.
When we read that there was a new disaster film called “2012,” we assumed it was about Democrats retaining control of both houses of congress. Luckily, we were wrong.
When we read that there was a new disaster film called “2012,” we assumed it was about Democrats retaining control of both houses of congress.
Luckily, we were wrong.
2012 tells the supposedly terrifying story of a world simultaneously struck by fires, earthquakes, meteor showers and floods. Let’s not forget airplanes crumbling skyscrapers, continents slipping beneath the seas, and highways buckling like roller coasters.
Amazingly, they left out global warming and adult acne.
Directed by Roland Emmerich, the guy behind other over-the-top movies like “Independence Day” and “The Day After Tomorrow,” it stars leftists John Cusack, Danny Glover, Woody Harrelson, and Amanda Peet, plus Thandie Newton, whose politics we don’t know, and Chiwetel Ejiofor, who we’ve never heard of.
One critic said, “The 2012 The Worst is Over Movie Clip that recently found its way online is full of the absurd action and grand special effects … As the clip continues, the delivered action is so over-the-top it almost looks like an cartoon.”
Oh, wait. We’re wrong again.
That was a review of the Obama administration’s first nine months.

Arghhhh. No one ever said pirates were smart.
A group of brilliant Somali pirates stormed what they thought was a defenseless cargo vessel. Imagine their surprise when it turned out to be a heavily-armed French navy ship. Needless to say, the pirates came out second best in the encounter.
Here’s how the BBC reports the story:
French military spokesman Admiral Christophe Prazuck said the pirates attacked in skiffs late at night some 500km (310 miles) off the Somali coast.
But the command and supply ship, the Somme, repelled the attack and chased the pirates, capturing five of them.
…Admiral Prazuck told French TV station La Chaine Info the pirates seemed to be surprised that the navy ship fought back.
“Once they realised they were facing a ship that was responding and was heading towards them, they stopped shooting and attempted to flee,” he said.
“The Somme gave chase and intercepted one of the pirates’ boats. All the weapons had apparently been tossed into the sea and the suspected pirates are now being held on board the Somme.”
You know they’re bad pirates when they get defeated by the French military.

Those cute, cuddly hosts always end up dying for their “noble” cause. (We’ve always hated Mighty Mouse and wished he would have met an untimely end, but we digress.)
Some unknown wit has put together this montage called “How Will He Die?” that lets you guess how each of the unfortunate characters went to meet his maker (and, we assume, 49 cute, furry virgins).
