Iraq’s making progress everywhere except the American media

The results of a new poll conducted by ABC News, the BBC and Japan’s NHK must make editors and reporters around the nation take a big gulp and say, “Didn’t see that comin’.”

It shows big progress everywhere they looked. But you probably won’t read about it anywhere except an editorial in Monday’s Investor’s Business Daily.

Check out these numbers:

85% of Iraqis said their neighborhood security was “good,” up from 62% a year ago and 43% in August of 2007.

Those who support democracy jumped to 64% from just 43% in 2007.

58% feel “very good” or “quite good” about the state of affairs in Iraq. That’s up from just 22% in 2007.

When asked what their main concerns are, war, security and terrorism took a backseat to jobs and prices.

“In short, it sounds like we not only won the war, but the peace as well,” IBD concluded. “And for those who cast a skeptical eye on the idea that any Islamic country could ever be democratized, it turns out the former President Bush is winning that debate too.”

Some results IBD didn’t mention:

96% of Iraqis think John Kerry is a pompous liar. 98% think Harry Reid is a pathetic liar. And 100% of Iraqis think John Murtha is a big, fat liar.

Bernie Madoff would rather be known as a crook than as a Democrat, media agrees.

A tip of the cap to Bernie Madoff, who made off with billions and was a major Democrat contributor
A tip of the cap to Bernie Madoff, who made off with billions and was a major Democrat contributor

Remember Jack Abramoff, the lobbyist who spread money around as if it were peanut butter and Washington, DC were a slice of white bread?

The media felt it was their patriotic duty to expose the recipients of his largess, especially since most of them were Republicans.

Have you seen any headlines announcing that Bernie Madoff, the perpetrator of the biggest Ponzi scheme in history, was a huge Democrat donor? Well, he was. Here’s how OpenSecrets.org reports it:

In total, he and his wife, Ruth, have given $238,200 to federal candidates, parties and committees since 1991, with Democrats getting 88 percent of that. Overall, Madoff and other individuals at his company, Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities, gave $372,100 in campaign contributions since 1991, with 89 percent to Democrats. The firm spent $590,000 on lobbying in the last 11 years, all but $10,000 of it with the lobbying firm of Lent, Scrivner & Roth.

The media demanded that Republican politicians return Abramoff’s donations and his money wasn’t even stolen. When will they begin demanding that Democrat politicians return Madoff’s stolen money?

It says a lot about the current political environment that this guy would confess to being a crook, but keep quiet about being a Democrat.

Although we can’t really say we blame him.

Liberal Nancy Pelosi wants bailout money for liberal San Francisco Chronicle

The front page of the San Francisco Chronicle from the days when it backed America instead of expecting America to back it.
The front page of the San Francisco Chronicle from the days when it backed America instead of expecting America to back it.

There goes Nancy Pelosi again. First she wanted bail-out money to save some mice in the San Francisco wetlands. Now she wants bail-out money to save some rats in the San Francisco media.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Duh) asked Attorney General Eric Holder “to weigh the public benefit of saving The Chronicle and other papers from closure against the agency’s anti-trust mission to guard against anti-competitive behavior.”

She neglected to mention anti-competitive behavior by the government.

According to The San Francisco Gate, Pelosi’s letter said, “We must ensure that our policies enable our news organizations to survive and to engage in the news gathering and analysis that the American people expect.”

Obviously, what Pelosi meant to say is, “We must ensure that our policies enable Democrat-friendly news organizations to survive and to engage in the indoctrination and manipulation that the American people need.

Hey, wait a sec. Where’s our bail-out money? We want to pay ourselves $160,000,000 in bonuses, but there’s not quite enough in the petty cash jar.

LA Times calls the kettle black, says “Conservative talk radio on the wane in California”

The Los Angeles Times looked through a keyhole this week and surveyed the landscape of conservative talk radio in California.

They made gross generalizations, told lies of omission, and distorted reality to prove a point that’s unsupported by the facts. The story would have been far more accurate had it been headlined, “Local radio on the wane in California.”

“The economy’s downturn has depressed ad revenue at stations across the state, thinning the ranks of conservative broadcasters.”

In order to be more accurate, the Times should have said, “The economy’s downturn has depressed ad revenue at stations across the state, thinning the ranks of all local broadcasters and all formats.”

The Times continued:

“(B)ut for all the anti-tax swagger and the occasional stunts by personalities like KFI’s John and Ken, the reality is that conservative talk radio in California is on the wane. The economy’s downturn has depressed ad revenue at stations across the state, thinning the ranks of conservative broadcasters.”

To be more accurate, it should have read, “The economy’s downturn has depressed ad revenue at stations across the state, thinning the ranks of all local broadcasters.””

“For that and other reasons, stations have dropped the shows of at least half a dozen radio personalities and scaled back others, in some cases replacing them with cheaper nationally syndicated programs.”

“Casualties include Mark Larson in San Diego, Larry Elder and John Ziegler in Los Angeles, Melanie Morgan in San Francisco, and Phil Cowen and Mark Williams in Sacramento.”

Oops. Ziegler did leave conservative powerhouse KFI, but was immediately replaced by Kennedy & Suits, two other local conservative talkers.

Contrary to what the Times would have its readers believe, conservative talk radio is faring better than the struggling radio industry in general and certainly better than floundering libtalk radio.

Take the Los Angeles market, for example.

KFI-AM, Rush Limbaugh’s conservative Southern California affiliate, is the dominant talk station in the region. The January 2009 ratings show KFI with a 4.3 share, higher than even its pre-election ratings. It is now the third highest-rated station in the market. It features 11 hours per day of local talk programming and its local morning and afternoon shows have tremendous ratings.

KTLK-AM, Los Angeles’ libtalk station, has a barely measurable 0.6 share, its lowest in the last four months. Far as we can tell, KTLK’s entire schedule is nationally-syndicated.

Let’s review: Conservative talk is booming. Lib talk is evaporating. Local conservative talk radio is booming. Local lib talk radio is non-existent.

We’re used to seeing the liberal Los Angeles Times putting its wagons in a circle to protect its own, but this story would have been more appropriate in the comic section.

Perhaps, just perhaps, this boils down to a case of jealousy on the part of the Times. After all, its circulation has dropped from a peak of 1,100,000 to a current anemic 739,000. It’s shedding sections, pages, employees, and prestige at a remarkable rate.

Which seems to indicate it’s actually liberal media that’s struggling.

The White House is on, but nobody’s home

white_house_darkOutsourcing must be hitting the news media hard. Because you have to go overseas to get any critical or even objective reporting on the Obama administration.

The Daily Mail’s Don Surber is anything but chuffed with The One’s work habits: “Barack Obama is too busy posing for magazine covers to actually do the job to which he was elected.

“There is a price to be paid when a president throws a party every other night, weekends in Chicago or Camp David and poses for magazine cover after magazine cover.

“After 51 days in office, Barack Obama has appointed only 73 people to 1,200 jobs that require Senate confirmation.”

The London Independent reported: “Last week, it was all smiles and handshakes as Gordon Brown and President Barack Obama put on a show of unity in Washington.

“But yesterday, Sir Gus O’Donnell, Britain’s most senior civil servant, exposed transatlantic tension when he protested that Downing Street was finding it ‘unbelievably difficult’ to plan for next month’s G20 summit in London because of problems tracking down senior figures in the US administration. ‘There is nobody there. You cannot believe how difficult it is,’ the Cabinet Secretary told a civil service conference in Gateshead.”

Since the White House seems to be having so much trouble finding enough people to answer the phones, maybe Michelle Obama could invite over some of those homeless people from the soup kitchen. They already know how to work cell phones pretty well.

Obama introduces Alinsky Rule #13: Create successes that cannot be measured

rules for radicals 13Remember the movie “Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark?” Indy found an ancient artifact that had been lost for thousands of years.

Well, slap a snappy fedora on the president and call him Indiana Obama, because he’s discovered socialist Saul Alinsky’s long-lost 13th Rule for Radicals. It is “Create successes that cannot be measured or disproved.”

Presidents used to say, “My plan will create X jobs?” Our new president says, “My plan will create or save X jobs.”

Every time he says it, the compliant media nod enthusiastically, scribble down that day’s number, and hope like hell reporters are among the ones that are saved.

For God’s sake, people, would someone please ask this guy how to measure this new statistical category he’s invented called “Jobs Saved.”

Thanks to this magical new “Jobs Saved” category, Obama can make up any number he damn well pleases. Even if jobs don’t budge an inch in the next four years, he’ll happily announce, “Due to our policies, we have saved 4 million jobs.”

To complete the analogy, Indiana Jones was afraid of snakes. So are we. Especially when they’re in the White House.

75-year old Saudi woman gets 40 lashes, American media get reprieve

Ahhh, the beauty of Sharia Law. Coming soon to a country near you!
Ahhh, the beauty of Sharia Law. Coming soon to a country near you!

For some mysterious reason, this story’s barely made a blip in the news. Guess the American media’s just been too darn busy gushing over Michelle Obama’s arms.

A 75-year-old Saudi Arabian widow has been sentenced to 40 lashes and four months in jail for “mingling” with two young men who were not close relatives. One was her late husband’s nephew and the other was his business partner. Ah, the beauty of Islamic Sharia law.

One can’t help but notice the media’s striking lack of concern for women outside the United States. It’s rare to hear more than a whisper of protest from any print or broadcast media.

And the big name women’s organizations? Silent as Marcelle Marceau despite the fact that they’re always the first to say, “It’s one world. We’re one family of people. We’re all brothers and sisters.” Yet when confronted with horrible abuse in Muslim nations, the typical response is, “We must understand. We must not be so quick to criticize, because its their culture.”

Perhaps those 40 lashes would have been applied better to someone else. Send your nominations to IHateTheMedia.com.

Robert Gibbs drones on, White House reporter drops off

You’re the press secretary for the most powerful man on the planet. You’re in the middle of the greatest financial crisis in generations. Terrorists threaten the future of the world. Under the circumstances, people hang on your every word.

Unless you’re Robert Gibbs, the president’s press secretary. He smirks, he snarls, he smears, but even that isn’t enough to keep reporters from falling into deathlike trances during his daily press briefings.

One member of the White House press corps actually fell asleep yesterday. You can see her over the left shoulder of the reporter asking the question in this video.

It’s still a bit of a mystery who the heavy-lidded journalist may have been, but press corps observers say it appears to be Wall Street Journal reporter Laura Meckler, who is pregnant.

Our first inclination is to say, “Cut her some slack. She’s pregnant.” But upon further reflection, we’d like to amend that to, “Cut her some slack. She was listening to Robert Gibbs.”

Al-Jazeera’s coverage of dictators is more honest than AP’s

This story provides a perfect demonstration of the corruption of the American media.

What else can it be called when Al-Jazeera’s coverage of tinhorn dictators is more honest than the coverage provided by Associated Press.

Just look at the difference in how the two services each covered the recent…uh…election in North Korea:

The AlJazeera.net story:
Kim ‘re-elected’ in N Korea vote

Kim Jong-il, the North Korean leader, has been re-elected to the country’s parliament in elections that have been closely watched for hints as to his possible successor.

In an unsurprising result Kim was re-elected by voters in Constituency 333 with 100 per cent support, the official KCNA news agency said on Monday.

The report said voters renewed their “unshakable determination to devotedly safeguard” the North Korean leader.

The Associated Press story:
North Korean leader Kim re-elected to parliament

Kim Jong Il was unanimously re-elected to North Korea’s rubber-stamp parliament, state media said Monday, in elections closely watched for signs of a political shift or hints the autocratic leader is grooming a successor.

All eligible voters in Constituency No. 333 cast ballots for Kim, renewing their “unshakable determination to devotedly safeguard” the leader, the official Korean Central News Agency said in first results from Sunday’s poll.

Contrast the two headlines: Al-Jazeera put quotation marks around the word “re-elected” in recognition of the fraudulent nature of the “election.” AP, on the other hand, may as well have been reporting that the British Prime minister had been re-elected.

Contrast the second paragraphs: Al-Jazeera refers to Kim’s unanimous election as “unsurprising” (in parens), another acknowledgement of the fraudulent nature of the “election.” AP simply reports that all eligible voters cast ballots for Kim as if that’s a common occurrence in elections.

Shame on Associated Press. They are so consumed by political correctness that they seem incapable of simply saying, “Kim Jong Il is a petty dictator and this election was a fraud.”

The only thing missing from their story was this line:

“Former President Jimmy Carter traveled to Pyongyang to observe the election and certified that it met the highest international standards for honesty and transparency.”

Big Sky Democrat says Obama’s statistics are blue sky

max baucusBuried deep in the Associated Press’ excellent analysis of the president’s economic “stimulus” program was this little gem that most of the media has chosen to ignore.

Senator Max Baucus, a Montana Democrat, challenged Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner last week.

“You created a situation where you cannot be wrong,” the chairman of the Senate Finance Committee said.

“If the economy loses 2 million jobs over the next few years, you can say yes, but it would’ve lost 5.5 million jobs,” Baucus contined. “If we create a million jobs, you can say, well, it would have lost 2.5 million jobs. You’ve given yourself complete leverage where you cannot be wrong, because you can take any scenario and make yourself look correct.”

The natives are restless. The Indians are jumping the reservation. There’s trouble in River City. And AP analyzed it correctly for once.

Obama may reach out to “moderate” Taliban

talibanHere’s the formula: Conservative gives an interview and the media picks every answer to pieces. Liberal gives an interview and even the most ludicrous statement goes unquestioned.

Take, for example, last weekend’s interview with President Obama in the New York Times. Here’s how Reuter’s adoringly reported it:

“U.S. President Barack Obama is open to the idea of reaching out to moderate elements of the Taliban.”

“Obama said that some of the U.S. success in Iraq involved reaching out to Islamic fundamentalists who had been alienated by the tactics of al Qaeda in Iraq.”

We’re still trying to figure out what a moderate Taliban is and wonder why neither the Times nor Reuters asked the question.

Are the moderates the ones in the General Department for the Preservation of Virtue and Prevention of Vice (Amr-bil Maroof Wa Nahi Anil Munkar) who search houses and destroy television sets, radios, cassettes, and photographs?

Or the ones who roam the streets beating those they deem to be violators of Sharia law? The ones behind gender apartheid who force women to wear burqas and ban girls from attending school? The ones who control the opium trade? The ones who perform mass executions in Kabul’s soccer stadium? The ones who destroyed ancient Buddhist statues because they were “blasphemous?”

Moderate Taliban. That’s what’s known as an oxymoron. Like “jumbo shrimp” and “Senate Intelligence Committee.”

AP dispenses healthy, but unexpected dose of reality: Obama plan faltering

associated press logoA just-released Associated Press analysis is a dramatic departure from the liberal claptrap we’ve come to expect from the wire service.

“President Barack Obama offered his domestic-policy proposals as a ‘break from a troubled past.’ But the economic outlook now is more troubled than it was even in January, despite Obama’s bold rhetoric and commitment of more trillions of dollars.”

“And while his personal popularity remains high, some economists and lawmakers are beginning to question whether Obama’s agenda of increased government activism is helping, or hurting, by sowing uncertainty among businesses, investors and consumers that could prolong the recession.”

“Although the administration likes to say it “inherited” the recession and trillion-dollar deficits, the economic wreckage has worsened on Obama’s still-young watch.”

“Every day, the economy is becoming more and more an Obama economy.”

Read the entire analysis. It’s actually honest enough to quote doubting Democrats who are buying neither Obama’s line of reasoning nor line of bull.

President’s “Middle Class Task Force” packed with highly-paid elitists, no middle class

Typical transportation for members of President Obama's Middle Class Task Force
Typical transportation for members of President Obama's Middle Class Task Force

The press trumpets President Obama’s Middle Class Task Force. But they never mention that it’s made up of highly-paid Veep Joe Biden and seven other White House elitists.

Maybe it should be renamed “President Obama’s Vision of What the Middle Class Looks Like Task Force.” Because no one who’s actually a member of the middle class is a member of the Middle Class Task Force.

Middle class is generally defined as anyone earning between $30,000 and $100,000 a year. Yet every member of the Task Force makes at least $150,000, putting them in the top 5% of American wage earners.

For example, Vice President Biden makes $227,000 per year. Council of Economic Advisors chair Christina Romer pulls down $172,000. And Energy Secretary Steven Chu takes home $191,000. And that’s just from their government gigs. Who knows how much they make from other sources.

In order to research the problems of the middle class, perhaps Task Force members can roll down the privacy windows in their limos and speak to their drivers. That’s about as close to middle class as these guys are likely to get.

American media ignores bungling Obama, British media irate

President Obama bungled meetings this week with America’s most important ally. The British are irate about it.

First, Obama unceremoniously returned a bust of Winston Chuchill the Brits had given to President Bush right after 9-11. Then, he snubbed Prime Minister Gordon Brown by deciding he wasn’t important enough to merit a joint press conference. Finally, after Brown was thoughtful enough to present Obama with a beautiful pen holder hand-carved from a plank from a former anti-slavery ship, Obama reciprocated by giving Brown a collection of DVDs.

The Brits are up in arms. Editorial after editorial and article after article has ripped Obama’s trashing of the “special relationship” the two countries share. But the story has been ignored by the adoring American media. For example, a Google News search for “Obama, “British,” and “25 DVDs” turns up a mere 21 stories, including reprints in various publications.

We can’t even say it’s a case of conservative-liberal bias, because a search for “Hillary,” “Europe,” and “reset” turns up 249,000 stories and her gaffe only happened on Friday. No, this is strictly a case of the media protecting its investment in Barack Obama.

But perhaps we shouldn’t really blame the American media. They had plenty of other important stories that needed covering this week. Like Octomom. Has she had anymore kids yet? And Michelle. Is she wearing sleeves today?

Gordon Brown may be rethinking his earlier comments in this video.

Newspaper turns Paul Harvey’s death into criticism of Limbaugh

paul harveyAn editorial in Rochester, New York’s largest newspaper started out as a warm tribute to Paul Harvey ended up as a cold attack on Rush Limbaugh.

The editorial, headlined “Talk radio needs a little more Harvey,” went down hill quickly and contained these gems:

“A lot of word pictures are drawn every day purporting to describe how inflexibly partisan and flat-out angry the world of popular communication has become. But few things tell the tale better than two names.”

“In short, Harvey was the velvet glove. And Limbaugh is the iron fist. Take your pick.”

“Limbaugh is really a politician who campaigns constantly without actually running for office. Harvey was pure radio — a great voice, stories to tell and information to impart. Without the clenched fist.”

Guess we shouldn’t be surprised, because the name of the Gannett newspaper is the Rochester Democrat.

Hillary makes mistakes, Reuters makes excuses

Hillary Clinton
The media searches for Republican gaffes, but searches for excuses for Hillary's gaffes.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton got off to a rocky start in Europe yesterday when she mispronounced the names of her European counterparts and then followed that up by re-writing history.

But never fear. Reuters excused the accident prone Secretary of State’s gaffes with these two paragraphs:

“Clinton has set herself a grueling pace on visits to Egypt, Israel and Brussels soon after touring the Far East, attending dozens of meetings and giving speech after speech, with little time worked into her schedule for sleep.”

“Tiredness appeared to show Friday when she answered questions in front of 500 young Europeans at the European Parliament…”

Chavez to Obama: Be my socialist homeboy

We don't need no stinkin' constitution bigger than this!
We don't need no stinkin' constitution bigger than this! Either do you America.

President Hugo Chavez of Venezuela has just called upon President Obama to help lead the world out of the global recession by joining the project of “21st century socialism” of which Chavez is the self-proclaimed leader.

Speaking to a group of workers in the Venezuelan state of Bolivar, their Dear leader directed this comment to our Dear Leader: “Come with us, align yourself, come with us on the road to socialism. This is the only path. Imagine a socialist revolution in the United States/”

Far-fetched? Not to Chavez: “Nothing is impossible. Who would have thought in the 1980s that the Soviet Union would disappear? Nothing is impossible. Who would have thought in the 1980s that the Soviet Union would disappear? No one,” he said. “That murderous, genocidal empire has to end, and some day there has to come a leader … who interprets the best of a people who also include human beings who suffer, endure, weep and laugh.”

Reporters and anchors in the newsrooms of America must be bewildered. On the one hand, it is music to their ears to hear the call to socialism here in America, coming on so strong and so soon after they collectively installed their president. On the other hand, there aren’t a lot of reporters reporting in Venezuela, now are there?

WSJ article says “Obama’s Radicalism Is Killing the Dow”

dow after obama chart to 03-05-09

Note to White House: don’t let the president see today’s issue of the Wall Street Journal.

Tell him the dog chewed it up. Tell him the delivery boy threw it on the roof. Tell him they’re still drying it out because it got rained on. Come up with any excuse you want, but don’t let him see the paper.

“It’s hard,” Stanford economics professor Michael J. Boskin said, “not to see the continued sell-off on Wall Street and the growing fear on Main Street as a product, at least in part, of the realization that our new president’s policies are designed to radically re-engineer the market-based U.S. economy, not just mitigate the recession and financial crisis.

“The illusion that Barack Obama will lead from the economic center,” the article continued, “has quickly come to an end. Instead of combining the best policies of past Democratic presidents — John Kennedy on taxes, Bill Clinton on welfare reform and a balanced budget, for instance — President Obama is returning to Jimmy Carter’s higher taxes and Mr. Clinton’s draconian defense drawdown.”

Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton and Barack Obama. One who lusted in his heart. One who lusted in the Oval Office. And one who lusted to destroy capitalism.

British newspaper rips Obama again, compares him to “flawed” LBJ

President Obama was excited when he heard he was going to meet the queen, disappointed when he found out it wasn't Elton John.
President Obama was excited when he heard he was going to meet the queen, disappointed when he found out it wasn't Elton John.

Looks like newspapers on the other side of the Atlantic didn’t get that “laudatory coverage only” memo from the White House. The President and everyone around him have been sliced and diced by The Telegraph this week.

The paper’s latest article starts off by reviewing all the president’s gaffes – his poorly thought out choice of gifts, his insulting return of the Churchill bust, his hastily-prepared joint press conference with Gordon Brown. Then things got really nasty:

“Something, suddenly, seems to have made the Obama White House perk up and start to take an interest in the Brits. The Queen has invited the President to tea when he’s here for the G20 in April. And he’s in through the front door of Buckingham Palace faster than a Harley Davidson roaring along Route 66.”

“Note how the coolness of Team Obama disappears when a bit of regal glamour is introduced into the equation. He might not like the Brits, but he can recognise a global superstar when he encounters one. He wants to be associated with her. He’s shameless.”

“If Obama, or someone in his inner circle, had spent two minutes thinking about what present to get Brown then they could easily have come up with something appropriate. He likes books. He loves American history. Get him a signed first edition of a good Robert Dallek book such as the brilliant Flawed Giant on LBJ. Come to think of it, Obama should read it too, if he hasn’t yet, as it reveals a great deal about how a Presidency can go so wrong.”

We’re surprised Obama didn’t schedule tea and crumpets with Prince Charles since they have so much in common:

They both have two kids. Both believe in global warming, yet whip around the world in private jets. And both have domineering wives who make them jump through hoops like trained chihuahuas.

Obama gives lousy gift, pisses off British Prime Minister

President Obama made Prime Minister Brown an offer he could easily refuse.
President Obama made Prime Minister Brown an offer he could easily refuse.

British Prime Minister Brown wanted to make a good first impression in his first meeting with President Obama. So he gave him an ornamental penholder hand-carved from the timbers of a Victorian anti-slave ship once called the HMS President.

President Obama reciprocated by giving Brown a handful of DVDs. Seriously. President Obama gave the prime minister of our closest ally, a nation that reveres the “special relationship” between our two countries, a bunch of DVDs.

In Obama’s defense, they were all classic American films. And they came in a special boxed set. And Michelle was probably up half the night making sure the ribbon looked real pretty. Unfortunately, it turns out Brown isn’t much of a film fan.

Britain’s Daily Mail reports that Brown could have gone to the Blockbuster store down the road from 10 Downing Street and picked up the same DVDs for about $352 (plus tax).

As they say in Hollywood, “Take two.”

And as we say at IHateTheMedia.com, “Aw, crap.”

Angry British journalist labels Michelle Obama “Lady MacBeth”

michelle obama British journalist James Delingpole, a columnist for the Telegraph, is angry about the state of Anglo-American relations. And he lays the blame right square at the designer shod feet of Michelle Obama.

“I was asked for my reaction as a true born Englishman to President Obama’s double insult – first the sending back of the Winston Churchill bust, then his snub to Gordon Brown.”

“Britain’s friendship,” Delingpole continued, “is something Obama will come to regret having dispensed with so lightly. This was not the act of a global statesman, but of a hormonal teenager dismissing her bestest of best BFs for no other reason than that she felt like it and she can, so there.”

“Obama’s judgment,” he concluded, “is pretty dreadful – but this? My favourite theory…was that it was a move calculated to please his Lady Macbeth. At the moment in Britain, we’re still in the “Doesn’t she look fabulous in a designer frock” stage of understanding of Michelle Obama. Gradually, though, we’ll begin to realise that she is every bit the terrifying executive’s wife that Hillary Clinton was. Or, shudder, Cherie Blair.”

We can just imagine the White House response:

“Frock? Michelle’s dress is not a frock. It’s a $10,000 Jason Woo original.”

Tide turning? ABC News nails Obama for healthcare lie

Monica Millay
Photo: Monica Millay

ABC News broke out its thesaurus today in an attempt to say something other than President Obama lied. It appears that after much debate, they decided on the word “mischaracterization.”

“President Obama’s kicking off his health care reform today in the worst possible way: with a mischaracterization of data.”

“’The cost of health care now causes a bankruptcy in America every thirty seconds,’ Obama said at the opening of his White House forum on health care reform. The problem: that claim, based on a 2001 survey, is simply unsupportable.”

According to ABC, Obama’s statistic is the result of an incorrect extrapolation made from a 2005 study. They said the original study called out medical expenses as “a” reason for bankruptcy, not “the” reason. ABC also noted that the study used an extremely broad definition of “medical expenses,” including gambling problems and death of a family member.

Thanks, President Obama. Based on your theory, we’re thinking of introducing a new health plan for all the employees here at IHateTheMedia.com. Benefits will include Jack in the Box tacos and beer and Thursday night poker.

Brit Reporters say Obama doesn’t know difference between England and Uruguay

Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Godron BrownBritish reporters are not happy. Not happy at all. They expected a full press conference after Prime Minister Gordon Brown’s first visit to the Obama White House, but didn’t get one.

“Though there was never any announcement on this side of the Atlantic that there would be a full-blown joint news conference today when British Prime Minister Gordon Brown stops by to meet with President Obama,” USA Today’s The Oval blog reported, “some British journalists are rather cranky this morning about the fact that there won’t be one. Some who flew over with Brown last night thought there would be an Obama-Brown newser, and were surprised to hear when they arrived that there wouldn’t. They see it as a snub.”

“Mr Brown might lament,” The Telegraph said, “that despite the so-called ‘special relationship’ Britain is now getting the same treatment as the president of Uruguay but he need not despair. I’m told there’s a chance he might get drinks with Vice President Joe Biden on Tuesday evening.”

That may be true, but imagine the hysterically funny stories Brown will be able to tell in Parliament on Wednesday morning.

McCain rips everyone on earmarks — Obama, Democrats and Republicans

During the presidential campaign, the compliant liberal press believed every word Barack Obama said. Or at least they pretended they did. They assured us that when their man was elected president, he would do as he promised by eliminating earmarks and emasculating lobbyists.

Oops. Turns out there are 9,000-some earmarks in the “stimulus” bill. And lobbyists go to see the document before members of the House and Senate did.

John McCain doesn’t like it and went ballistic on the floor of the senate yesterday. “If it sounds like I’m angry,” he roared, “it’s because I am.”

His anti-earmark oratory was the kind of speech that’s rarely heard in the Senate. McCain hurled invective at President Obama, Democrats and Republicans and he used words that are equally rare in the Washington, DC gentlemen’s club known as the U.S. Senate.

“I just went through a campaign, Mr. President, where both candidates promised change in Washington, promised change from the wasteful, disgraceful, corrupting practice of earmark, pork-barrel spending,” McCain seethed. “So what are we doing here? Not only business as usual, but an outrageous insult to the American people.”

If the Arizona Republican had shown this kind of fire on the campaign trail, he might be president today.

Watch the entire five-minute video. For once, John McCain seems a lot more like “Mr. Smith goes to Washington” and a lot less like Captain Queeg.

NY Times writer admits “Barack Obama is not who we thought he was”

shockedQuick. Break out the smelling salts. We’re feeling a little weak in the knees. The New York Times has admitted that Barack Obama isn’t who they thought he was.

“But the Obama budget is more than just the sum of its parts. There is, entailed in it, a promiscuous unwillingness to set priorities and accept trade-offs. There is evidence of a party swept up in its own revolutionary fervor — caught up in the self-flattering belief that history has called upon it to solve all problems at once.”

“Those of us who consider ourselves moderates — moderate-conservative, in my case — are forced to confront the reality that Barack Obama is not who we thought he was. His words are responsible; his character is inspiring. But his actions betray a transformational liberalism that should put every centrist on notice.”
