Times of London reports on Michelle Obama’s “falsies”

michelle_falsies There are subtle differences between American English and English English. (More significant differences, apparently, than the subtle differences only President Obama has picked up between German and Austrian.)

That being said, The Times of London has reported on Michelle Obama’s “falsies.” Consider it more evidence of England’s Obama burn-out:

I know, you’re fed up with reading about Michelle Obama. But let me just tempt you towards one last, tiny detail: the First Lady’s falsies. Michelle Obama is normally so natural looking, it’s surprising to find something about her that is so unapologetically fake.

Those eyelashes weren’t even trying to look real.

No, they were full-on, all-out diva lashes, the kind you normally find on D-list celebrities or in drag-act dressing rooms. The allure of the long lash is well-documented. They define and sexualise the gaze, making the eyes appear bigger (and therefore younger). Gazing up at someone through luscious lashes is considered an act of seduction; it’s even entered the vernacular: “you batted your eyelashes at him.”

Given that Mrs Obama’s intention was to seduce Europe, she chose those lashes well, making no attempt to conceal the artifice. She did not, for example, opt for lash extensions which give the most natural finish. These are bonded to the wearer’s own lashes, a painstaking process that nevertheless yields fantastic results. You can choose various degrees of amplification, from just a few extra lashes to a full-on fan. Suzie Lung (tel 07957 771503) does a mean set, or try Vaishaly (020-7224 6088).

Bernard Goldberg supports affirmative action – for conservatives in the newsroom.

Bernard Goldberg, author of A Slobbering Love Affair: The True (And Pathetic) Story of the Torrid Romance Between Barack Obama and the Mainstream Media knows the politics of America’s newsrooms as well as anyone. And that’s why liberals detest him.

“We need newsrooms that not only look like America, but think a little more like America.”

That’s just one quote from the speech he delivered last week at the Richard Nixon Presidential Library in Yorba Linda, California. But there are a lot more where that came from.

Watch the whole speech. If for no other reason than you know that Barney Frank won’t.

LA Times sells front page ad, disguises it as news story

Readers of the L.A. Times know the paper sometimes slants the news and other times reports it very selectively, but now they’re guilty of completely fraudulent news.

The front page of today’s Los Angeles Times features what appears to be a major feature story on a rookie LAPD cop named Ben Sherman. The story breathlessly reports his first day on the job.

Only one problem. Sherman doesn’t exist. He’s the lead character in a new NBC-TV program called “Southland” that premieres tonight. And the article isn’t really an article – it’s a paid advertisement.

The ad isn’t in the Times normal typeface and it’s subtly labeled as an “Advertisement.” But how many readers of the Times will notice the difference?

The Times has come under heavy criticism in the past for blurring the line between editorial and advertising. The decision to adorn the front page with a faux news story that can easily be confused for actual reportage will undoubtedly elicit howls of protest once again.

The Los Angeles Times. All the fiction that’s fit to print.

Latest phony CBS/New York Times poll surveys 69% more Democrats than Republicans

Typical American participating in the latest CBS/New York Times phone poll.
Typical American participating in the latest CBS/New York Times phone poll.

There’s nothing funnier than actually looking at the “internals” of liberal polls. Because they often reveal truths the summaries gloss over.

For example, here’s what the summary of the latest CBS/New York Times says:

Americans have grown more optimistic about the economy and the direction of the country in the 11 weeks since President Obama was inaugurated, suggesting that he is enjoying some success in his critical task of rebuilding the nation’s confidence, according to the latest New York Times/CBS News poll.

It continued:

(J)ust 31 percent of respondents said they had a favorable view of the Republican Party, the lowest in the 25 years the question has been asked in New York Times/CBS News polls.

Now here’s what the summary didn’t tell you. Look deeper into the poll at the demographic breakdown of who was actually questioned and you quickly see how skewed the results are. Who participated in the poll?

39% Democrats
23% Republicans
30% Independents

Say what? 69.6% more Democrats than Republicans? President Obama only got 53% of the vote. In the recent House election in upstate New York a Democrat only got 50% of the vote in a Democrat district.

So how about if you make this closing paragraph the new opening paragraph of the New York Times/CBS poll summary:

“The latest fraudulent CBS/New York Times poll kept questioning Democrats until we got the answers to line up with the story we had already written. Here are the results of that bogus poll.”

Media rushes to condemn gun ownership, ignores more interesting fact about Binghamton gunman

The left wants to know why it was so easy for Jiverly Wong to get guns. We want to know why it was so easy for him to get in the country.
The left wants to know why it was so easy for Jiverly Wong to get guns. We want to know why it was so easy for him to get in the country.

In the media’s rush to condemn gun ownership, they have conveniently overlooked something very interesting about the shooter.

You can find it in this story from Fox News:

(Jiverly) Wong first came to the northwestern New York town some time in the late 1980s or early 1990s, before moving to California, (Police Chief Joseph) Zikuski said. In 1992, Wong was arrested and convicted of fraud.

Police said Wong became an American citizen in November of 1995 and sometime after that left the country. He returned to Los Angeles Dec. 25, 1999, arriving from Tokyo, police said passport records showed.

What the hell is wrong with our immigration policy when a guy who was arrested and convicted of fraud in 1992 can become a citizen in 1995?

National Enquirer says grand jury investigating John Edwards’ misuse of campaign funds

A federal grand jury is looking into misuse of campaign funds by former presidential candidate John “Baby Daddy” Edwards. The North Carolina scam artist allegedly used the money to pay off the mother of his love child. Attorneys will neither confirm nor deny the grand jury investigation.

We know, we know. It’s the Enquirer and you don’t want to believe a word they say. But they were the people who broke this story and hung onto it like a bulldog to a bone.

To review:

Last summer, the NATIONAL ENQUIRER caught Edwards visiting his mistress Rielle Hunter in the Beverly Hills Hilton. After vigorously denying the affair for months, Edwards admitted the affair on national television in August after the ENQUIRER published spy photos of Edwards holding his love child earlier that week.

Edwards has also denied paying either campaign staffer Andrew Young, who claims to be the child’s father or Rielle Hunter, his admitted mistress, any funds from the campaign war chest. Fred Baron, a longtime Edwards supporter, claimed to have provided the hush money. Baron died last fall.

IHateTheMedia.com will neither confirm nor deny that we always thought Edwards was a pathetic poltroon, a bloodsucking parasite, a prating coxcomb, a puny whipster, a canker on society, a carnal cur, a cream-faced loon, a decayed dotant, a jackanapes with scarves.

Thanks to the William-Shakespeare.org “Shakespeare Insult Generator” for their assistance with this story.

UPDATE: Andres Young now says there is a John Edwards and Rielle Hunter sex tape

London Telegraph on Obama: Isn’t it time for him to go home yet?

Uh-oh. The Brits are not true believers.
Uh-oh. The Brits are not true believers.
Rahm Emanuel better start including the London newspapers in his daily phone calls to the media. They’ve been brutal in their assessment of the Obamassiah’s European performance.

Like this, for example, from the London Telegraph:

Barack Obama really does go on a bit

Isn’t it time for him to go home yet? It is good, in theory, that the new President of the United States is taking so much time to tour Europe…But his long stay means that we are hearing rather a lot from him, way too much in fact.

His speeches have long under-delivered, usually leaving a faintly empty sensation in this listener even though I welcomed, moderately, his victory last year as offering the possibility of a fresh start and a boost to confidence.

The Telegraph continued:

His performance at the first press conference in London with Gordon Brown featured moments in which he sparkled – his riff on loving the Queen was a high-point. But most of the serious answers that I listened to were interminable, windy and not very impressive. At points there were pauses so long that it appeared he had simply lost his train of thought.

Today, we were treated to another set-piece Obama speech, and my didn’t he go on a bit? The crowd in Prague was huge, and initially wildly enthusiastic, but what he served up was not any more impressive than his damp squib in Berlin last year…

The Telegraph concluded with this stinging assessment:

The Obamas have handled their trip well and in their public appearances have been a credit to their country. But I’ll wager that within a year or so he’ll be marked down as a wind-bag.

We were surprised to learn that President Obama delivered damp squib in Berlin last year. Perhaps that’s why the Brits are upset. They only got some DVDs and iPods.

UK Guardian: “The question that flummoxed the great orator”

Gordon Brown wondering what the hell Barack Obama is talking about.
Gordon Brown wondering what the hell Barack Obama is talking about.

There is some immense disconnect between American media and British media. While the American media swoons at the feet of Barack Obama, the British media has been writing about his feet of clay.

Here’s the UK Guardian’s scathing review of one of the President’s British news conferences:

Barack Obama, the World’s Greatest Orator (™all news organisations), didn’t exactly cover himself in glory when the BBC’s political editor Nick Robinson asked him a question about who was to blame for the financial crisis. Normally word perfect, Obama ummed, ahed and waffled for the best part of two and a half minutes. Here, John Crace decodes what he was really thinking…

British paper reports “Obama in London” differently than American papers

What's wrong with this picture? Ask the Brits.
What's wrong with this picture? Ask the Brits.
Ouch. The London Daily Mail is going off script. They’re painting an entire different picture of President Obama’s visit to London.

Here’s its scathing point of view:

Allegedly the most charismatic politician in the world, Mr Obama was a disappointment. It sounded as though he had a blocked nose and so his lack of energy may have been a symptom of a cold. Jet lag, too. He probably wished he could have stayed in bed.

He spoke slowly, in a meandering manner. Some might say that he was thoughtful and professorial. Others might call his manner circuitous, even yarny. Am I saying that he was a bore? Oh dear. I find that I possibly am.

And the Daily Mail concluded:

Now (Prime Minister Gordon Brown) placed his hands behind his back and bounced a half inch or so on the balls of his feet, relishing the sound of Solomon Obama’s replies to a few questions from the Press.

Those replies were, as I say, on the chewy side and came out at the speed of an action replay on Match of the Day. So slow, in fact, that at one point a man from the Guardian dropped his tape recorder on the floor. Mr Obama’s best moment was when he was charming about the Queen.

Our old donkey Gordon, by comparison to this American visitor, was for once Mr Eloquent, Mr Quick-Off-The-Mark. Mr Obama had managed to make Mr Brown look good. Another amazing achievement. They left with Mr Obama snaking an arm round his host’s shoulder and ushering him from the room. Very much an ‘I’m in charge’ gesture.

Based on the gushing reports from American newspapers, you might think the British love affair with Obama is so intense that they’re about to overthrow the Queen and put the President on the throne.

Actually, that might not be a bad idea, but it brings up some interesting questions. Would he have to wear the crown? Carry a purse? Would Joe Biden be Vice King?

Europe’s euphoria for Obama cooling

Shock! Horror! Disappointment! The Obamessiah is not who the Europeans thought he was.
Shock! Horror! Disappointment! The Obamessiah is not who the Europeans thought he was.
Barack Obama’s inauguration was held January 21 in Washington, DC. But his coronation was held in Germany way back on July 24, 2008 in Berlin. Now the Europeans’ Obamamania may be cooling.

Here’s how the German magazine Der Spiegel puts it:

Europe was ecstatic when Barack Obama got elected, but the enthusiasm has dampened since he took office in January. On the eve of his first visit to Europe as president, some here are wondering how seriously he takes the Continent.

The Der Spiegel article continued:

When Obama arrives in London on Tuesday for the start of his one-week visit to Europe, he’ll come as a friend, but as one who is still in some ways a stranger. Europe backed his election campaign more enthusiastically than most other parts of the world. But the White House has been too preoccupied coping with domestic crises to devote much attention to this region in the first two months of Obama’s presidency.

And later:

Still, the Obama skeptics in Europe are having a field day. “The notion that Europe is going to rally around this administration is being exploded,” Nile Gardiner, director of the Margaret Thatcher Center for Freedom at the Heritage Foundation, told the Washington Post. Indeed, a feeling of skepticism regarding Obama’s new Afghanistan strategy and his proposals for solving the financial crisis has been making itself felt.

Hillary Clinton read the Der Spiegel article and said, “No problem, Barack. Just take ‘em another one of those reset buttons. They really love those things over there.”

Saudi grand mufti says, “No movies for you. No nothing for you.”

Photo: Chad Rebels
Photo: Chad Rebels

Just weeks after that grand Hollywood delegation visited Iran on a “cultural” exchange, they’ve received bad news from neighboring Saudi Arabia. Movies are now taboo.

As AsiaNews/Agency in Riyadh explained it:

Cinema and theatre are “against Sharia” because they distract people from work and weaken their efforts in achieving progress, said Saudi Arabia’s Grand Mufti Shaikh Abdul Aziz Alu Al Sheikh during a conference on leisure, visual arts and literature attended by students at King Saud University. “Theatrical performance, whether it is a cinema or a song, would generally make an impression that is against Sharia. People need only those (art forms) that are useful to them to change their way of life (in an Islamic manner),” he decreed.

They continued. And so did the nutcase Mufti:

In his address to students at King Saud University, the grand mufti warned against playing chess because it “causes a man to lose his wealth and waste his time.”

Conversely “photography is one of the necessities of life” because it helps in “lectures, [. . .] religious activities [. . .] while maintaining public security.”

“Only the photography of sculptures and models is prohibited,” he said.

Remuneration for poets who attend festivals and cultural events is permissible if their words are good, faultless, without “abusive words or references.”

Finally, the mufti urged students to stay away from cigarettes and avoid reckless driving, especially at night or early morning.

Hold on. He didn’t mention cable TV, did he? Can they watch cable TV Saudi Arabia? If so, we highly recommend Entourage to the Grand Mufti. We’re pretty he’ll like it.

But he might want to watch it with the blinds pulled down.

NY Times buries story that could have buried Obama

The New York Times is making headlines for ignoring news that could have damaged Barack Obama, who as you may have noticed, is a Democrat.

According to the Bulletin, “A lawyer involved with legal action against Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) told a House Judiciary subcommittee on March 19 The New York Times had killed a story in October that would have shown a close link between ACORN, Project Vote and the Obama campaign because it would have been a ‘a game changer.’”

An informant had been providing inside information to The Unofficial Democratic Mouthpiece about ACORN’s election activities and several stories had been written. The articles abruptly stopped when it was revealed that the Obama presidential campaign had sent its maxed-out donor list to ACORN’s Washington, D.C. office as a way to “reach out to the maxed-out donors and solicit donations from them for Get Out the Vote efforts to be run by ACORN.”

In what may have been a rare moment of candor, The Times reporter actually told the informant that editors wanted to kill the story because “it was a game changer.”’

Rep. James Sensenbrenner (R-Wisc.) said the footsie-playing between Obama and ACORN could be a violation of federal election law.

The Times’ Senior Vice President for Corporate Communications, Catherine Mathis, stated in an email, “political considerations played no role in our decisions about how to cover this story or any other story about President Obama.”

Take that for what it’s worth. After all, it comes from the New York Times.

Associated Press calls Obama’s illegal alien aunt “symbol in immigration debate”

Zeituni Onyango's nephew reportedly lives in this public housing project in Washington, DC.
Zeituni Onyango's nephew reportedly lives in this public housing project in Washington, DC.
We were pissed by the time we finished the first paragraph of this Associated Press story on Barack Obama’s Auntie Zeituni Onyango.

“Barack Obama’s Kenyan aunt lost her bid for asylum more than four years ago, and a judge ordered her deported. Instead, Zeituni Onyango stayed, living for years in public housing.”

We read the rest of the story, but everything we need to know about the case was right there in those first thirty words. But in case the sentence was so long and complex that you didn’t understand it, please allow us to summarize.

Illegal alien. Ordered deported. Never left. Lives in public housing.

The Associated Press goes on to call her a “symbol in the immigration debate.” But we don’t understand how any rational human being can figure out what the debate’s about.

Sadly, the rest of Auntie Zeituni’s family appears to be in the same perilous financial condition. Her nephew, the most successful member of her family, also lives in public housing in the Washington, DC area.

32% of younger Americans get their news from satirical sources. No joke.

More and more Americans are getting their news from satirical sources. This is the best news we’ve ever heard.

Here’s how Rasumussen Reports reports their report:

Nearly one-third of Americans under the age of 40 say satirical news-oriented television programs like The Colbert Report and The Daily Show with Jon Stewart are taking the place of traditional news outlets.

Thirty-two percent (32%) of adults ages 30-39 believe this to be true, while 42% disagree, according to a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey.

Thirty percent (30%) of those ages 18-29 say programs like the two Comedy Central shows that feature news reports with a comic twist are replacing traditional news outlets, but 35% disagree and another 35% are not sure.

The only problem these days is trying to figure out if you’re watching news that’s news, news that’s satire, satire that’s news, or satire that’s satire.

It’s a complex world we live in.

NY Times likes Taliban better than tobacco

Big tobacco bad, big Taliban good.
Big tobacco bad, big Taliban good.
It’s always amusing–in a sick sort of way–to see the New York Times put its prejudices on display.

On one hand, the Times doesn’t like Kirsten Gillibrand, New York’s new senator, because they fret that she may be a closet conservative. So the paper ran a front page story attacking her work as an attorney for Philip Morris back in 1996.

On the other hand, the Times has been conspicuously silent when it comes to Anthony Walker, President Obama’s nominee to head the Justice Department’s Civil Division. West defended John Walker Lindh, the American Taliban nabbed in Afghanistan after 9-11.

Our theory is that the Times is upset at the difference in results the two attorneys produced.

“The industry beat back the federal perjury investigation,” the Times said about the tobacco litigation, “a significant legal victory at the time, but not one that Ms. Gillibrand is eager to discuss.”

Lindh, on the other hand, was sent to the Big House for 20 years.

Looks like John Walker Lindh hired the wrong lawyer. And so did President Obama. Lindh might want to start smoking and hire Gillibrand for his appeal.

President Obama daintily holding a beer as if he's at a tea party. Not to be confused with an anti-tax Tea Party.
While the rest of America is scrimping and saving and cutting back on unnecessary expenses, the Obamas are busily hitting the town as often as possible. In office just two months, the president and Mrs. O are already setting new records for socializing, wining and dining.

The New York Times, unofficial mouthpiece of the Democratic party, reports on the first couple’s busy social life outside of the White House: “‘Everywhere you go, you’re wondering whether or not you’ll run into them,’ said Washington’s mayor, Adrian M. Fenty, who has lunched with the president and first lady.”

The Times breathlessly describes the president “sitting courtside recently alongside astonished fans at the Verizon Center as he cheered on the Chicago Bulls…” Then details how the Obamas visited the Kennedy Center (twice!), The Alvin Ailey dance troupe, and “a musical tribute to Senator Edward M. Kennedy.” (The Unsinkable Molly Brown, perhaps?)

The Obamas are also dining out as often as possible, at both upscale restaurants and greasy spoons: Equinox, Bobby Van’s Steakhouse, B. Smith’s, Georgia Brown’s, Ben’s Chili Bowl and Five Guys Burgers and Fries have all fed the prez.

Letitia Baldrige, former White House social secretary to Jackie O, said of the Obamas’ socializing, “It’s a great bank of good will in which they’re making deposits every day.”

Actually, what she meant to say is, “Banking crisis, schmanking crisis. Every day’s a party!”

If you like NPR, you’ll love the “Newspaper Revitalization Act”

Democrat senators are battling to see who can introduce this year’s stupidest proposal. Ben Cardin of Maryland has raced out to an early lead.

His “Newspaper Revitalization Act” would allow papers to convert into not-for-profit entities. Zap. They get big tax breaks. But Cardin justifies his nonsense by saying that the new non-profits would be prohibited from running editorials. You know, like NPR.

Obviously, Cardin’s bill is designed to give deep-pocketed Democrat Daddy Warbucks a chance to turn any paper into a tax-free source of promulgating propaganda.

Sure. Why not? After all, NPR follows that same basic business model and you can see how well it’s remained impartial while sucking at Washington DC’s distended teat.

NY Times’ Krugman turns on Obama & Geithner, rejects latest rescue plan

A breakthrough for economist Paul Krugman?
A breakthrough for economist Paul Krugman?
Lordy, Lordy, Lordy. It’s hand-wringing time in the Big Apple.

Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner’s latest bailout plan is causing a personal crisis of confidence for Paul Krugman, the New York Times’ Nobel-prize winning economist.

The plan is supposed to convince private investors to take up to $1 trillion in toxic assets off the hands of troubled banks.

“This is more than disappointing,” Krugman said in the Times. “In fact it fills me with a sense of despair.”

“It’s as if the president were determined to confirm the growing perception that he and his economic team are out of touch, that their economic vision is clouded by excessively close ties to Wall Street. And by the time Mr. Obama realizes that he needs to change course, his political capital may be gone.”

You know things are bad when we’re not pleased by anything that causes despair in Paul Krugman.

Latest diplomatic gaffe: Obama doesn’t know who the French president is

Napoleon Sarkozy. Or Nicholas Bonaparte. Or some French leader. (Photo credit: azrainman)
Napoleon Sarkozy. Or Nicholas Bonaparte. Or some French leader. (Photo credit: azrainman)
Imagine the outrage in the media if George Bush had mistakenly written a diplomatic letter to the former leader of an ally instead of its current leader. Sadly, but not so surprisingly, that’s exactly what President Obama just did.

The online version of leading French newspaper Le Figaro says President Obama sent a letter to French Jacques Chirac saying that he wants to “work with him” over the next four years.

Oops! Chirac isn’t president of France anymore. Nicolas Sarkozy was elected to that office in May 2007.

Obama’s letter said, “I am certain that we will be able to work together, in the coming four years, in a spirit of peace and friendship to build a safer world.”

Coming just a few days after Obama insulted British Prime Minster Gordon Brown, this is apparently part of a undisclosed plan by Obama to alienate NATO members one-by-one.

In other diplomatic news, President Obama has also sent letters to Russian Czar Nicholas II, English Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli, and German Chancellor Otto Von Bismarck.

We’re still waiting to hear how stupid Barack Obama is for mispronouncing “defibrillator” on the Tonight Show. Guess the story was simply lost in the flood of mainstream reportage of the President’s “Special Olympics” quip.

Is NBC still using this logo? They were the last time anyone actually watched the network.
A couple weeks back, ABCNews.com started a daily web series featuring its correspondents and anchors. They called it “The Fix.”

Last week lawyers from The Washington Post said the newspaper owns the name “The Fix” and slapped a cease and desist order on the network. Turns out Post writer Chris Cillizza uses the title for his Twitter profile and it’s also the name of a blog he’s written for the Post several years.

ABC News gave up without a fight. They caved in like a house in a hurricane. They fought like the French.

According to WebNewser, ABCNews.com is trying now working on new names for its web series.

As MediaBistro asks, “So, what is driving The Washington Post to take this so seriously? And should ABC News give in? After all, ABC News and WaPo often partner on editorial projects most notably the ABC News/Washington Post poll.”

Fact is, the Post probably wouldn’t have bothered with a cease and desist had their title been stolen by NBC. Because no one ever would have seen it if it had been on NBC.

They’ll all get together at the White House, shake hands, and pose for all the photographers.

Oh, wait. They won’t pose for the photographers because the event has been closed to the press.

That’s right, the guy who claimed he was going to head up the most transparent administration in history is shutting the press out of the ceremony in which he’s being honored by the press.
