CNN demonstrates why its ratings are in the toilet, airs graphic diarrhea scene

Today’s headlines on CNN: Bombs found in house … students protest tuition hikes … Jeff Daniels has diarrhea … and CNN wonders why its ratings are in the dumper.

Today’s headlines on CNN: Bombs found in house … students protest tuition hikes … Jeff Daniels has diarrhea … and CNN wonders why its ratings are in the dumper.

Somebody screwed up at CNN. We assume some video editor was watching Dumb & Dumber instead of paying attention to what he was supposed to be doing. The result? A disgusting scene from the raunchy comedy showed up in the middle of a CNN story about, well, we’re not really sure what it was about because, after all, it was CNN and we weren’t paying attention, either.

It can happen. We have a friend who had a brief brush with notoriety back in the late 60s when he was a videotape editor at a TV station in Southern California. Late one night he made the mistake of hitting the wrong button while watching porn at work, sending a graphic scene out over the air.

The bad news? He got fired. The good news? He became famous when Johnny Carson mentioned it in his opening monologue a few nights later.

Political Correctness Alert! Professional journalists now consider term “illegal immigrant” to be offensive

Professional journalists have been put on notice: Illegal immigrants are no longer to be called illegal immigrants. Because, we assume, accurate reporting has now taken a back seat to political correctness.

A group of young undocumented Democrats expresses its heartfelt gratitude for America's hospitality

The Culture & Media Institute reports:

The Society for Professional Journalists (SPJ)’s Diversity Committee has announced that it will be launching a year-long campaign to educate journalists about the hurtfulness of phrases like “illegal immigrant,” which is the term currently preferred by the influential AP Stylebook.

The label “remains offensive to Latinos, and especially Mexicans, and to the fundamentals of American jurisprudence,” wrote Leo E. Laurence, a member of the SPJ Diversity Committee and the editor the San Diego News Service.

Although the article doesn’t say what the new preferred term should be, we assume it will be “undocumented Democrat.”

Please note that we have never used the term “illegal immigrant” here at IHateTheMedia.com. We prefer the term “illegal alien” because the term “illegal immigrant” is too friggin’ wishy washy for us.

In related news, IHateTheMedia.com announced today that it has founded a new group called The Society for Unprofessional Journalists & Bloggers Who Work In Their Underwear. It will have no Diversity Committee, but it will meet every Friday afternoon to drink beer and make fun of the priggish political correctness of the Society of Professional Journalists.

Cancún can’t: The failure of the global warming scam summed up in four quotes

We’re pretty confident that U.N. corruptocrats will fly home from Cancún and produce a stack of reports thick enough to kill off every tree in Bavaria, but all you really need to know can be found in the following four quotes.

cold-cancun
Delegates at the UN's Cancun meeting experienced record low temperatures in the Mexican resort

Ben Webster in The Times UK:
The climate change conference in Cancún has ended with failure to set a target date for the reduction of carbon emissions. The Mexican hosts persuaded 192 out of 193 countries to accept the “Cancún agreement” by the simple trick of aiming for the lowest common denominator — the agreement was secured by deferring decisions on all of the most contentious issues.

Nitin Sethi in The Economic Times of India:
Under the new Cancun deal, each country will be allowed to offer whatever it wishes to pledge for emission reductions on its own volition. There shall be no cumulative target to reach. No one shall ask if the individual targets are collectively adequate or not. The new regime will only check if the pledges have been acted upon or not. Rich countries, including the US, will offer emission reduction targets and others, such as India, will offer their mitigation actions as part of a new deal which can be said to be defined by the bottoms up approach. Under the agreement India will get off easy. Because it let others off easy as well.

Walter Russell Mead in The American Interest:
That is the big news out of Cancun; the green agenda has fallen into a UN black hole and for now at least it cannot get out. The “success” of Cancun is a best case scenario from the skeptic’s point of view. The cost of funding endless UN gabfests in exotic tourist locations (next up: South Africa in 2012) is trivial compared to the cost of any serious efforts to deal with carbon emissions on the scale current scientific theory suggests would be needed. Bureaucrats will dance, journalists will spin and carbon will spew, and the greens will be unable to escape this dysfunctional UN process for years and maybe decades to come.

Ronald Bailey in Reason Online:
The United Nation’s climate change conference here in Cancun came to an end at around 4 a.m. this morning. It would be cynical to call it a bribe, but the Cancun agreements were largely reached because the rich countries continued their vague promises to hand over $100 billion in climate aid annually to poor countries beginning in 2020.

Obama doesn’t like the left to compare politicians to Nazis. Especially if he’s the politician.

Now that Keith Olbermann has compared Obama to the Nazis, he’s decided that those comparisons are verboten.

We’ve been racking our brain and we just can’t recall President Obama complaining when his left wing cohorts called George Bush a Nazi. But now, now that Keith Olbermann has compared Obama to the Nazis, he’s decided that those comparisons are verboten.

obama-nazi
Don't blame us. Keith Olbermann said it.

Politico.com has the tale of Obama’s displeasure:

White House press secretary Robert Gibbs advised the liberal commenter Keith Olbermann on Monday to refrain from using comparisons to Nazi Germany after the MSNBC host likened President Obama’s deal on tax cuts to Nazi appeasement.

“Whenever you compare anything to what the Nazis did, if you ever get to that point in your speech, stop, because nothing does, and hopefully, God willing, nothing ever will,” Gibbs told reporters.

Asked if Obama heard Olbermann’s “special comment,” Gibbs replied, “I doubt the president heard that.”

Olbermann was reportedly devastated by the news that the President doesn’t tune in to catch his nightly therapy session.

“The President doesn’t watch my show? But I went to an Ivy League-ish school. I read James Thurber on the air every Friday. I was once fired by Rupert Murdoch. I say ‘good night and good luck’ at the end of my show just like Edward R. Murrow. The only conclusion I can draw from this unwarranted rejection is that Obama really is a Nazi.”

Congratulations to Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi. They’ve united the American people in one thing – their complete disdain for Congress.

congress-approval-rating-gallup

Gallup.com has the devastating details:

Americans’ assessment of Congress has hit a new low, with 13% saying they approve of the way Congress is handling its job. The 83% disapproval rating is also the worst Gallup has measured in more than 30 years of tracking congressional job performance.

The prior low approval rating for Congress was 14% in July 2008 when the United States was dealing with record-high gas prices and the economy was in recession.

Congratulations to Harry and Nancy. They say that records were made to be broken, so it’s nice to see that you guys were able to beat your own previous low. But we think you’re just getting started. If you can just cram this Omnibus Spending Bill through Congress, we have a feeling you can set another new record next month.

Hypocrisy at its finest: Julian Assange asks British judge to keep his address secret

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange tried to hide his bail address from the public in an astonishing move for the man responsible for leaking thousands of diplomatic secrets.

This is not just your ordinary, run of the mill hypocrisy. No, this is world class hypocrisy on a scale rarely seen.

Suddenly, when it comes to his home address, Julian Assange believes in secrets

The Daily Mail UK has the story:

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange tried to hide his bail address from the public in an astonishing move for the man responsible for leaking thousands of diplomatic secrets.

Assange’s lawyers argued that the location – a 10-bedroom stately home – should not be disclosed on grounds of privacy during yesterday’s hearing at City of Westminster Magistrates’ Court.

But the move was dismissed by District Judge Howard Riddle, who ruled not to reveal the address would conflict with Assange’s commitment to open justice.

The judge insisted the address – Captain Vaughan Smith’s Ellingham Hall on the Norfolk/Suffolk border – was read out in open court as usual.

Poetic justice.

Robert Gibbs says he believes Congress will read the entire 1924-page Omnibus spending bill, reporters laugh

CBS News’ Mark Knoller asked White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs if he really thought members of Congress would read the 1924-page Omnibus Obamabus Spending Bill. The White House Press corps laughed at his ludicrous answer.

Knoller: This 1924-pages. Do you worry that this could gum up the works a bit?
Gibbs: I just think it means a lot of people will be up late reading between now and, say, the 22nd or 23rd.
Knoller: Who is gonna read that?
Gibbs: As I noticed during the healthcare debate, that is a big thing. I assume, I assume many members up on Capitol Hill.
Knoller: Really?
(Laughter)
Gibbs: I take ‘em at their word. I take ‘em at their word.

It is impossible – absolutely impossible – to believe that anyone in the White House press corps still takes this guy seriously.

Huckabee rips Chris Matthews: “I’d rather be a fat, effective, conservative governor than a talk show host with no viewers”

Mike Huckabee, a former fat man himself, did not take kindly to Chris Matthews’ comments about Chris Christie being too fat to be President. Not kindly at all.

“If Governor Christie somehow decides he wants to lose weight, he can. I’m thinking that talk show host — not matter how much he wants to — can’t change the meanness and the callousness of his own character.

So I’d rather be in Governor Christie’s shoes — an effective governor doing a good job, proving that solid, conservative governing principles really do work even in a state like New Jersey than I can a person whose talk show probably gets about as many viewers as Governor Christie will shake hands with on any given day in New Jersey.”

Huckabee exaggerates. Matthews’ show doesn’t get anywhere near that many viewers.

George Obama, the President's brother, stands in front of his Nairobi hovel while waiting to be kept by his brother

United Press International has the updated update:

The first family attended a Christmas fundraising event for the Children’s National Medical Center in Washington Sunday night.

President Obama, first lady Michelle Obama and their daughters Malia and Sasha were greeted by children dressed as Santa’s elves when they arrived at the National Building Museum for the “Christmas in Washington” fundraiser taped by Turner Network Television for a Dec. 17 airing.

Obama wished everyone a “Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays,” recounted the Christmas story in the New Testament and urged people to think of others during holiday season.

“We are called to love each other as we love ourselves. We are our brother’s keeper and our sister’s keeper. It’s a message that guides my Christian faith,” he said.

Last we heard, Obama’s illegal alien Auntie Zeituni is still living in public housing in Boston and his brother George is still living in a 60-square foot hovel in the slums of Nairobi, Kenya.

Ahh, yes, Christmas. That time of year when socialists demonstrate that when they say “We are our brother’s keeper,” what they really mean is, “When I say ‘we,’ I mean everyone but me.”

It figures, doesn’t it? Michael Moore puts up bail for WikiLeaks’ Julian Assange

michael-moore
C'mon, admit it. You're not convinced that Michael Moore isn't really Sean Penn in a fat suit.

Oh, wait, we spoke too soon. Michael Moore just took to the pages of the Daily Kos to explain his actions:

Yesterday, in the Westminster Magistrates Court in London, the lawyers for WikiLeaks co-founder Julian Assange presented to the judge a document from me stating that I have put up $20,000 of my own money to help bail Mr. Assange out of jail.

Furthermore, I am publicly offering the assistance of my website, my servers, my domain names and anything else I can do to keep WikiLeaks alive and thriving as it continues its work to expose the crimes that were concocted in secret and carried out in our name and with our tax dollars.

We were taken to war in Iraq on a lie. Hundreds of thousands are now dead. Just imagine if the men who planned this war crime back in 2002 had had a WikiLeaks to deal with. They might not have been able to pull it off. The only reason they thought they could get away with it was because they had a guaranteed cloak of secrecy. That guarantee has now been ripped from them, and I hope they are never able to operate in secret again.

So why is WikiLeaks, after performing such an important public service, under such vicious attack? Because they have outed and embarrassed those who have covered up the truth. The assault on them has been over the top.

Now if only Hugo Chavez can be worked into this story somehow, our lives will be complete.

Question of the Day: If Tuvalu is being swallowed by rising tides, why is oceanfront real estate so expensive?

The prime minister of Tuvalu, Apisai Ielemia, said rich Westerners were allowing his nation to perish due to global warming. Well, then why are home prices up?

Eero Iloniemi is the managing editor of Nykypäivä, a Finnish newspaper. He went to the U.N.’s Cancun global warming shindig and asked a very inconvenient question.

arizona-desert
And if you believe the Tuvaloons, we have some oceanfront land in Arizona we'd like to sell you
Iloniemi’s reports the results of his inconvenient query:

The prime minister of Tuvalu, Apisai Ielemia, said rich Westerners were allowing his nation to perish. He showed a group of journalists, me among them, a video of floods that threaten to wash his tiny Pacific island nation to the sea…
‘Mr Prime Minister. In view of the impending deluge, how much have land prices fallen on Tuvalu?‘ I stammered.

For some reason my question completely silenced the room packed with environmental press. After what I will charitably call an inquisitive stare, the prime minister gave his longwinded answer full of long-term projections of rising ocean levels. To be fair, he concluded with a simple declaration: ‘Land prices have not been affected.’

This baffles me. The Tuvaluans have experienced the very floods Ielemia had just shown us. If the ocean is encroaching the island, surely it would make sense to sell all your land, at any price, while you still have some. This should cause a dramatic drop in land value as the market gets flooded (no pun intended)…

The story gets even more baffling when one looks at the Maldives. Remember, this is the tiny nation in the middle of the Indian Ocean where the government held an underwater cabinet meeting in November 2009 to emphasise the imminent peril of climate change-induced rises in the ocean levels. But in the Maldives, too, land prices are holding.

This does bring up the question we asked several months ago:

If Al Gore really expects sea levels to rise, why did he buy an oceanfront estate in California?

10 Che Guevara quotes the left would rather not talk about

Next time your kid comes home in a Che Guevara T-shirt, ask him if he knows what the Cuban murderer of Cubans actually stood for. Sit him down, strip the gauze of ignorance from his eyes and have him read these Guevara quotes.

Then burn the damn T-shirt.

1. “Crazy with fury I will stain my rifle red while slaughtering any enemy that falls in my hands! My nostrils dilate while savoring the acrid odor of gunpowder and blood. With the deaths of my enemies I prepare my being for the sacred fight and join the triumphant proletariat with a bestial howl!”

che guevara quotes
The only good Che Guevara is a dead Che Guevara

2. “Blind hate against the enemy creates a forceful impulse that cracks the boundaries of natural human limitations, transforming the soldier in an effective, selective and cold killing machine. A people without hate cannot triumph against the adversary.”

3. “To send men to the firing squad, judicial proof is unnecessary … These procedures are an archaic bourgeois detail. This is a revolution!”

4. “A revolutionary must become a cold killing machine motivated by pure hate. We must create the pedagogy of the The Wall!” The Wall is a reference to the wall where Che’s enemies stood before his firing squads.

5. “I am not Christ or a philanthropist, old lady, I am all the contrary of a Christ … I fight for the things I believe in, with all the weapons at my disposal and try to leave the other man dead so that I don’t get nailed to a cross or any other place.”

6. “If any person has a good word for the previous government that is good enough for me to have him shot.”

7. Che wanted the result of the Cuban missile crisis to be an atomic war. “What we affirm is that we must proceed along the path of liberation even if this costs millions of atomic victims.”

8. “In fact, if Christ himself stood in my way, I, like Nietzsche, would not hesitate to squish him like a worm.”

9. “Let me say, at the risk of seeming ridiculous, that the true revolutionary is guided by great feelings of love.”

10. “It’s a sad thing not to have friends, but it is even sadder not to have enemies.”

Life imitates Seinfeld: California jail agrees to recognize prisoner’s Seinfeldian religious beliefs

What the hell. If people believe nonsense like Kwanzaa and Scientology and that crap Reverend Wright spews, why not Festivus?

The San Jose Mercury News has the religious revelations:

An Orange County inmate who disliked salami got special meals after declaring his religious belief in the Festivus holiday celebrated on the television show “Seinfeld.”

The Orange County Register reports Monday that 38-year-old convicted drug dealer Malcolm Alarmo King asked for kosher meals at the Theo Lacy jail to maintain his healthy physique.

But sheriff’s officials reserve kosher meals for inmates with a religious need.
Judge Derek G. Johnson demanded a religious reason for King to receive the meals and defense attorney Fred Thiagarajah cited his client’s devotion to Festivus — a holiday celebrated on “Seinfeld” with an aluminum pole and the airing of grievances.

Yeah, Festivus. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

Janet Napolitano announces that 28,468,855 Mexicans are untrustworthy

Janet Napolitano’s been busy lately – very busy – conducting personal interviews with every Mexican citizen. And when she was done, she proudly announced that 84,000,000 of them are trustworthy.

Janet Napolitano’s been busy lately – very busy – conducting personal interviews with every Mexicans citizen. And when she was done, she proudly announced that 84,000,000 of them are trustworthy enough to be given special “trusted traveler” status, allowing them to breeze through American airports with virtually no security checks.

What the Secretary of Homeland Security didn’t mention was that the total population of Mexico is 112,468,855 which means that she considers 28,468,855 Mexican citizens untrustworthy. That’s 28.3% of the nation’s population.

Be very careful here, Ms.Napolitano. You’re treading dangerously close to profiling.

mexican-trusted-traveler
Junk? We don't need to feel your stinkin' junk.

JudicialWatch.org has the derogatory details:

As violent drug cartels take over Mexico and expand their criminal enterprises north, the United States has signed a “trusted traveler” agreement that allows pre-screened Mexican airline passengers to bypass lengthy airport security checkpoints.

The foreigners will get “trusted traveler cards” with fingerprints and other biometric data and they must answer customs declarations questions on touch-screen kiosks before leaving airport inspection areas. Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano claims it’s a way to enhance information sharing and mutual security in the face of “ever-evolving, multinational threats.”

About 84 million Mexicans are expected to qualify for the trusted traveler program, according to Mexico’s Interior Ministry Secretary, who signed the agreement on behalf of his country this week. Celebrating the festive occasion, the Mexican government official assured that the new accord will facilitate the U.S. entry of business travelers and tourists who are key factors in economic development, growth of trade and cultural exchange.

Mexicans will get the perk through the U.S. government’s Global Entry Program, which allows participants to obtain security clearance by presenting a “machine-readable” passport or resident card at airport “Global Entry kiosks.”

The machines issue the foreign travelers a transaction receipt and directions to baggage claim and the exit into the United States. Applying is easy. Candidates fill out an online application, provide valid identification and answer a few questions from a Customs and Border Protection officer.

We have one simple question about this new policy:

Why are 75% of all Mexicans considered trustworthy enough to breeze through customs and security, but 99.99% of all Americans are considered so untrustworthy that they have to get their junk touched just to get on an airplane?

Stimulus money over easy: $141,002 to send Montana students to study Chinese dinosaur eggs

The National Science Foundation gave a $141,002 federal stimulus grant to Montana State University to fund a six-week, student trip to Hangzhou, China, to study dinosaur eggs and other fossils.

The Washington Examiner called this the Outrage of the Day. We can’t disagree.

"These are dinosaur eggs, class. They look like rocks. Now let's go explore Chinese culture."

WHO: The National Science Foundation
WHAT: Gave a $141,002 federal stimulus grant to Montana State University to fund a six-week, student trip to Hangzhou, China, to study dinosaur eggs and other fossils.
WHY IT’S AN OUTRAGE: The students found ample time to experience Chinese culture and explore on taxpayers’ money, but the dinosaur eggs did not hatch any new jobs

We would assume that the phrase “experience Chinese culture” includes a little Schezwan Pork, pot stickers and combo fried rice washed down with a couple bottles of Tsingtao beer. Maybe more than a couple. After all, a day studying Chinese dinosaur eggs is exhausting.

President Obama signed the First Lady’s child nutrition bill into law on Monday morning and Michelle Obama took to the microphone to say a few words about childhood obesity and, of course, the state of the socialist state.

“When our kids spend so much of their time each day in school, and when many children get up to half their daily calories from school meals, it’s clear that we as a nation have a responsibility to meet as well. We can’t just leave it up to the parents. I think that parents have a right to expect that their efforts at home won’t be undone each day in the school cafeteria or in the vending machine in the hallway. I think that our parents have a right to expect that their kids will be served fresh, healthy food that meets high nutritional standards.”

The Fight of the Week: Condoleezza Rice knocks out Katie Couric in the first round

An interview with former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and perky, ratings-challenged news anchor Katie Couric – had been a fight, it would have been stopped in the first round.

About the only time we watch HBO is for the fights, but much to our surprise we found out that the cable network has a series called “HBO History Makers.”

If this episode of the series – an interview with former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and perky, ratings-challenged news anchor Katie Couric – had been a fight, it would have been stopped in the first round.

Couric asked Rice about the war in Iraq. She led with her chin and a false premise when she said, “Documentaries have been made about how intelligence was incorrectly analyzed and cherry-picked to build an argument for war, and memos from that time do suggest that officials knew there was a small chance of actually finding weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.”

Rice proceeded to pummel Couric with a combination of lefts and rights and knock-out punches from every direction. Couric never knew what hit her.

Our favorite moment? When Rice started talking about Saddam Hussein’s use of poisonous gas and Couric jumped in to say, “Oh, yeah, he used those chemical weapons against the Kurds….”

Too little, too late, Katie. You’d already been counted out.

Now you’ve done it, Chris Matthews. You’ve gone and pissed off Neil Cavuto.

Matthews said Chris Christie couldn’t be president because he was too fat. Matthews points out that if we can have a black president and if both parties can put up creditable female candidates, then the concept of a guy who shops for his suits at Ed’s Big & Tall Shop shouldn’t surprise anyone.

OK, well, he didn’t exactly put it that way, but that’s what we heard.

He also didn’t say, “Chris Matthews is a pathetic schumuck,” but we heard that, too.

Considering the ratings of their respective networks, we assume more people heard Matthews’ comments on Cavuto’s Fox show than heard the original comments on MSNBC.

What’s the logic behind teachers and college professors getting tenure? Are there any other professions that get tenure?

We’re asking. Start telling.

Federal judge says ObamaCare is unconstitutional, Nancy Pelosi says, “Are you serious? Are you serious?”

On Monday, U.S. District Judge Henry Hudson ruled that the government can’t force you to buy health insurance. Previously, Nancy Pelosi didn’t think this was a serious issue.

Our headline is actually in reverse chronological order. As you’ll see in this story.

On Monday, U.S. District Judge Henry Hudson ruled that the government can’t force you to buy health insurance. In other words, ObamaCare is unconstitutional.

With that in mind, you may recall the incident last October when a reporter asked House Speaker Nancy Pelosi if she could pinpoint the part of the Constitution that authorized Congress to mandate that all Americans purchase healthcare insurance.

Reporter: “Madam Speaker, where specifically does the Constitution grant Congress the authority to enact an individual health insurance mandate?

Pelosi: “Are you serious? Are you serious?”

Reporter: “Yes, yes I am.”

Don’t look now, Nancy hon, but we’re pretty sure Judge Hudson is serious, too.
