Sir Isaac Newton, English physicist, astronomer, mathematician and inventor of the bouffant hairdo
So much for the fantasy that American kids are the world’s most ignorant. According to a new survey, British kids are no geniuses, either.
The BBC reports the dumb details:
One in 10 children thinks the Queen invented the telephone, a survey of children’s science knowledge suggests.
Others gave credit for the invention to Charles Darwin and Noel Edmonds.
One in 20 of the 1,000 pupils polled thought Star Wars character Luke Skywalker or Richard Branson had been the first to set foot on the Moon.
Some 60% of nine- and 10-year-olds thought Sir Isaac Newton discovered fire, the survey for science campaign Birmingham Science City found.
Despite these misconceptions, more children want to win a Nobel prize for science than the X Factor.
The survey of primary and secondary school children in the UK suggests there is some confusion about key scientific achievements.
Just under a half of boys (49%) correctly pinned down gravity as Newton’s ground-breaking discovery, compared with 76% of girls.
Just over a third of boys said Newton discovered fire, while the remaining 16% either said he invented the internet, or discovered the solar system or America.
Stupid Brit kids thought Sir Isaac Newton invented the internet? C’mon, wake up, you little morons. Everyone knows Al Gore invented the internet.
Why, lord a’mighty, these Washington, DC folks spend tax dollars like Monopoly money. Good thing we have an aggressive cost cutter like Barack Obama in the White House.

61% of those under the age of six no longer believe in the Easter Bunny. 49% of those over the age of 18 no longer believe in BarackObama.
There are days when this blogging thing is easy. Like shooting Easter bunnies in a barrel.
Fox News has details on the White House’s latest environmental inanity:
This year’s White House Easter Egg roll will be eggs-actly what the bunny ordered. The environmentally concerned bunny, that is.
A White House announcement Monday said the eggs at this year’s April 5 roll will be made from paperboard that contains no wood fibers from endangered forests, is recyclable and features vegetable-oil based inks and a water-based coating.
What’s more, they’ll come in purple, pink, green and yellow and feature the stamped signatures of both President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama.
Just what every three year old kid wants — a phony autograph of Barack Obama on a phony Easter egg.
Doesn’t that just sum up this administration perfectly?

On a day when the government report that another 36,000 Americans had joined the rolls of the unemployed, National Review caught CNN reporting the story like this:
State unemployment picture brightens
A total of 30 states and Washington, D.C., reported rising unemployment rates in January, down from the number in the previous month, according to a government report released Wednesday.
Jobless rates decreased in nine states, according to the Labor Department’s monthly report on state unemployment. Eleven states reported no change.
Got that?
36,000 people added to the unemployment rolls and 30 states report rising unemployment, yet CNN mysteriously reports that “State unemployment picture brightens.
“Tom Marino’s husband’s sister is carrying his babies. They used his husband’s sperm and a donor egg to conceive their babies through IVF.”
We've been waiting for a good "Gay Catholic Ex-Stripper Awaits Birth of Twins Carried by Husband's Sister" love story
Somedays this blogging stuff is pretty damn easy. Especially when you run across a headline like the one on this story.
The Village Voice reports the stranger than fiction story:
“Tom Marino’s husband’s sister is carrying his babies.
“They used his husband’s sperm and a donor egg to conceive their babies through IVF.
“Previously, they used Tom’s sperm to conceive their now two-year old son-using the same surrogate (the sister) and donor eggs.
“On the outside, Marino is a buttoned up white collar dad who is a regional banking manager, monogamous husband, devout Catholic, former altar boy and former Civil Air Patrol member.
“However, he is also a former exotic dancer and author of Tomorrow May Be Too Late–a very honest and gritty memoir about toxic homosexual love and living a life of debauchery.
“With your audience, Marino can share intimate accounts and devastating real-world incidences about how he spent the last two decades rebuilding his ‘tomorrow’ after a unflattering series of events–including a messy (heterosexual) divorce, one-night-stands, white collar crime, heartbreak, spiritual intervention and the birth of a child-to become a real-life example of a modern American family.”
“A toxic homosexual love affair and living a life of debauchery. ” Big deal. Just sounds like an average day in the office of New York Democrat Eric Massa.
There’s only one way to explain this clip: Chris Matthews is on a mission to prove to the world that he is a complete moron.

The ratings-challenged MSNBC host actually attacked newly-elected Massachusetts Senator Scott Brown for signing a book deal just weeks after being elected.
We learn today that Massachusetts Senator Scott Brown, who’s been a Senator for just 35 days, has a book deal. According to the Wall Street Journal, Brown’s expected to write about his upbringing, his early career, and how he beat Martha Coakley to win his Senate seat. Maybe he can call it It’s Not About the Truck. Just a thought, but didn’t people used to write the memoirs after their careers? This guy’s been in office what, a month?
Oops. Matthews seems to have forgotten a certain president whose first memoir came out before he’d ever run for office and whose second one came out after he’d been in the Senate for just a matter of months.
We missed Rupert Murdoch’s 79th birthday on March 11. He’s still the smartest guy in the room. Still strong like bull. Still driving the liberals crazy.

Former Detroit City Councilwoman Monica Conyers let fly a string of excuses and requests Wednesday, asking Cohn to set aside her guilty plea and consider her children and aging husband, U.S. Rep. John Conyers.
"You can't send me to jail. My husband is a very important Democrat."
“Well, nobody never ‘splained it to me that way,” said the judge, “So let me just set you free.”
Consider that a paraphrase. Because what U.S. District Judge Avern Cohn actually did was send Monica Conyers, a former member of the Detroit City Council, up the proverbial river for 37-months.
MLive.com reports from the detritus that is Detroit:
After months of relative silence following her plea deal, the former Detroit City Councilwoman let fly a string of excuses and requests Wednesday, asking Cohn to set aside her guilty plea and consider her children and aging husband, U.S. Rep. John Conyers.
“I don’t feel I should go to jail for something I didn’t do,” she told Cohn. “And it’s been said that you’re going to make an example of me, and the news media is pressuring you to put me to jail, and I just don’t feel that’s appropriate.”
She also vowed an appeal, a promise she made good on later in the day.
The Detroit Free Press reports Conyers filed a notice of appeal Wednesday afternoon and was appointed representation by the Federal Defender’s Office. Her attorney, Steve Fishman, told the newspaper he would not represent her in the appeal.
Her appeal is a long shot however, as the plea deal she signed in June indicates that if she receives a sentence of five years or less she “waives any right to appeal her conviction or sentence.”
Conyers resigned from the Detroit City Council in June after admitting she accepted cash from Houston-based Synagro Technologies in exchange for her vote on a sludge-hauling contract with the city in 2007.
“I may be guilty of extortion, but I never took a bribe,” she told Cohn.
Well, that just about settles it for us. This woman doesn’t deserve jail time, she deserves a Nobel Peace Prize.

Senator Arlen Specter, Democrat-for-Now from Pennsylvania, is penning a book. But he doesn’t have a title for it. Not yet, anyway.
Help Senator Arlen Specter name his new book
Senator Arlen Specter, Democrat-for-Now from Pennsylvania, is penning a book. But he doesn’t have a title for it. Not yet, anyway.
We assume he’s having trouble for two reasons. First, coming up with a title would be a decisive action that he couldn’t spin into something completely different somewhere down the road. And, second, some unknown political ghostwriter is really putting the book together and Specter will have no idea what it says he said until he reads it.
So we thought we (and you) might be able to help him out with some title ideas. Please note that Benedict Arlen has been eliminated from contention because it was too much of a gimme.
Without further adieu, we proudly present our top seventeen titles for the Senator’s new book:
Old and Yeller
Portrait of Cowardice
The Crime of the Ancient Senator
War and Peace. No, Make that War. No, Peace.
Yeah, Definitely War.
The Strangest Bedfellow
Keystone Cop Out
The Fraud and the Prince
Specter, Sphincter, Tomayto, Tomahto
I Survived Cancer. Then I Became One
Waking Up on the Wrong Side of History … Again
From Whore to Eternity
The World According To TARP
Gullible’s Travels
The Great Ratsby
Origin of the Feces
Red State Badge of Courage
Any other ideas? Feel free to leave them in the comments.
Turns out James Sikes, the driver of San Diego’s so-called runaway Prius, hasn’t been making payments on the Prius, filed for bankruptcy in 2008, has $700,000 in debt, has had several previous vehicles “stolen,” and to top it all off, reportedly operates a sexually-oriented website.
We don’t know if the Prius has trouble stopping or not, but we do know that nothing will stop the cockroaches from crawling out of the woodwork.
Jalopnik.com has the juicy details:
We received an email earlier today from an anonymous tipster who claims James (Jim) Sikes, the driver of the runaway Toyota Prius, was in financial trouble and even behind by five months on his payments for the Prius. If that’s true, it’s potential motivation for wanting to find an out — any out — on paying for the vehicle.
We did some public records searches (thanks to the help of Gawker’s John Cook) and found Sikes and his wife Patty found themselves, like many in the California real estate business, on the bursting side of the real estate bubble last year. The two declared bankruptcy in June of 2008 and have a combined liability of over $700,000 dollars in debt.
Among the list of creditors holding secured claims is none other than Toyota Financial Services for a lease on a 2008 Toyota Prius with 7,200 miles on the odometer. Total value of the lease at the time of bankruptcy was $20,494.
So, with almost three-quarter million dollars in debt there’s obviously the potential for financial motivation here. But, for his part, when we questioned Mr. Sikes over email earlier today, he denied being behind on his Prius payments.
Mr. Sikes also has not shied away from cameras appearing on CNN and numerous other television programs. In each, he’s stated numerous times he’s not going to sue and isn’t looking for any financial remuneration from Toyota other than a new vehicle.
We’ve asked the law firm representing him to furnish us with an up-to-date copy of his Toyota statement and we’ll post that as soon as we receive it — to either debunk this myth or add fuel to any fire.
…
But regardless of what happens with the Sikes case, the bigger issue for Toyota will be every cash-strapped ‘yota-owner looking for an easy out on their loans and leases potentially thinking about doing just this with their car. That’s a lot of potential carnage to wade through.
To inject a completely personal note, IHateTheMedia.com’s editor drove an Audi 25 years ago when they were supposedly prone to uncontrollable sudden acceleration. Today he drives a Toyota that is, of course, supposedly prone to uncontrollable sudden acceleration.
An Ohio inmate who intentionally overdosed on pills hours before his scheduled execution has returned to prison and is on suicide watch.
We nominate Jack Kevorkian to be the state of Ohio’s new death row doctor
You just can’t make this stuff up. No one would believe it. Luckily, Fox News was there to record the insane details:
Officials say an Ohio inmate who intentionally overdosed on pills hours before his scheduled execution has returned to prison and is on suicide watch.
Prisons spokeswoman Julie Walburn says 43-year-old Lawrence Reynolds Jr., who admitted taking an overdose of medication prescribed to him, arrived at the Ohio State Penitentiary in Youngstown shortly after noon on Tuesday.
Walburn says Reynolds is isolated from other inmates and under constant observation.
Reynolds was treated at a Youngstown hospital after he was found unconscious in his death row cell Sunday night.
The type of drug he used and why it was prescribed aren’t being disclosed. How he accumulated the pills is under investigation.
Reynolds’ execution for the 1994 murder of his neighbor near Akron has been rescheduled to next week.
In summation: a guy who is hours away from being executed tries to kill himself. The state spends thousands of tax dollars to save his worthless life so they can turn around and spend millions of additional tax dollars to execute him.
Abraham Lincoln said, “You can fool all the people some of the time, you can even fool some of the people all of the time, but you cannot fool all of the people all of the time.” But if only 50% of the people think Barack Obama is an idiot, he’s still managing to fool the other 50%.

RealClearPolitics.com reveals the details:
Tongue-in-cheek, the President remarked that his staff did not spare him the wrath of his correspondents – selecting a representative portion of 10 letters for him to read when he returns to the White House residence at night.
“I will tell you, that my staff is very even-handed, because about half of these letters call me an idiot!” Mr Obama said overnight, chuckling at his own joke during a rally in Saint Louis, Missouri.
IHateTheMedia.com surveyed its readers and discovered that 50% agree and called Obama an idiot.
However, 27% called him a Kenyan, 13% called him a Communist, 9% called him completely unqualified, and 1% called him a completely unqualified idiot Kenyan Communist.

Well, let’s give Andrea Mitchell credit. She says what she thinks and thinks what she says. Of course, she oozes liberalism, which sounds horribly unpleasant.

Here’s a quick clip in which the so-called reporter openly shills for ObamaCare with Congressman Elijah Cummings because, well, just because the President needs it, damn it.
Mitchell: Bottom line, what happens if you don’t get health care for this president is, this is really all-or-nothing for the sense of his power, his legacy, he’s invested so much in this, in this first year. You’ve got to get this for him.
Cummings: Andrea, I agree with you a million percent.
“Gimme an O, gimme a B, gimme an A, gimme an M, gimme an A. What does it spell? Bankruptcy.”
Uh-oh. Sounds like Michigan Democrat Bart Stupak has had it just about up to here with promises from Nancy Pelosi the Obama administration. He doesn’t like their attempts to rahm ObamaCare through the House of Representatives. And he doesn’t like the endless series of meetings where nothing is accomplished. Not one little bit.

He explains it all in this hilarious clip with Greta Van Susteren.
Greta: So what happens at these meetings?
Stupak: Nothing, the same people just get up and talk.
We say, man up, Stupak. We’re just as tired of hearing about it as you are.

For example, MSNBC’s Morning Joe show devoted an entire segment to Glenn Beck’s interview with disgraced Democrat Congressman Eric Massa. And it was surprisingly even-handed.

For example, MSNBC’s Morning Joe show devoted an entire segment to Glenn Beck’s interview with disgraced Democrat Congressman Eric Massa. And it was surprisingly even-handed.
“Let me tell you something,” said Morning Joe host Joe Scarborough. “[Beck] was not on his heels. He just, he played straight man and Donny Deutsch, he was, he did it very, very well.
Deutsch agreed saying, “Beck actually helped his brand a lot because he went from the crazy idiot to kind of a good interviewer. You know what I mean? And you know, you couldn’t help but not enjoy Glenn Beck yesterday, speaking from the extreme left.”
First of all, Deutsch doesn’t have to tell us he speaks from the extreme left because he’s a regular guest on MSNBC, so that’s just understood.
Second, nobody knows brands better than former ad genius Deutsch. So when he says Beck helped his brand, you know it’s true.
And third, well, we don’t really have a third point, but we needed to fill a little more space at the bottom of this story.

There. We said it in a lot fewer words than any of the other film critics.

Consider Green Zone convincing evidence that it’s a lot easier to write a screenplay than it is to write history.

Has there ever, in the long history of White House Press Secretaries, been one as smarmy as Robert Gibbs? One who can give such completely vacuous answers to straightforward questions? One who can simultaneously piss off reporters on both ends of the political spectrum and anyone viewing?

Well, we see what it’s led us to, to the fact that one out of eight homes now in America is in foreclosure or delinquency,” Moore said. “One out of eight home and, of course, the millions that don’t have health care and everything else it’s – how do you get yourself out of bed every morning to do this show with just the despair of how – the hope that we all had a year, year and a half ago. And now it’s like, I just feel like the Democrats are – they’re in for an ass-whooping of Biblical proportions in November if they don’t get off the dime and do the job they were sent there to do. I mean that. I mean, it – don’t they see that?
No, seriously, we deserve money for watching this stuff. Send your check today.

It’s nice to see that ol’ Kennedy legacy living on in young Patrick Kennedy. We refer, of course, to the cherished get-shitfaced-before-give-a-speech-in-public legacy.
Young Patrick Kennedy, the last remaining Kennedy in congress, fulfilled his destiny on Tuesday when he gave this angry, slurred, incoherent speech on the floor of the House:
“You want to know why the American public is fit? They’re fit because they’re not seeing their Congress do the work that they’re sent to do. It’s because the press, the press of the United States is not covering the most significant issue of national importance and that’s the laying of lives down in the nation for the service of our country. It’s despicable, the national press corps right now.”

Those poor devils at CNN must wonder why they’re frowned on by the gods of media.
MediaBistro.com has the details of the original news network’s latest humiliation:
Glenn Beck may not have thought much of his interview with former Rep. Eric Massa yesterday — he apologized to his viewers saying, “I think this is the first time I have wasted an hour of your time.”
But the interview, which was Massa’s first national TV interview since his resignation from office Monday, was a ratings hit for Beck. The hour drew 3.41M Total Viewers at 5pmET, and 860,000 in the A25-54 demo. That’s just shy of network-leading Bill O’Reilly who pulled 3.5M at 8pmET (925K in the demo.)
But Massa did not have the same pull for CNN. His second interview, with Larry King at 9pmET, drew just 669K Total Viewers (169K in the demo) — fourth place for the hour among the cable news nets after Sean Hannity on FNC, Rachel Maddow on MSNBC, and Joy Behar on HLN.
Good lord. You interview the guy who is arguably the biggest headline maker of the day and you finish behind Rachel Maddow and Joy Behar? Depressing.
King’s response?
“Is it Tuesday yet? I like Tuesdays because that’s shuffleboard night here at the home.”
