Chris Matthews looks as if his parents were just killed in a horrible car crash

This is a laughfest extraordinaire. Chris Matthews tells the crew at MSNBC’s Morning Joe that polls show Scott Brown is going to win. The sadsack look on his face is classic.

This is a laughfest extraordinaire. Chris Matthews tells the crew at MSNBC’s Morning Joe that polls show Scott Brown is going to win. The sadsack look on his face is classic.

There’s also a great moment at about the :45 mark when Matthews reveals that the latest polls show a double digit lead for Brown.

“Oh, my god,” says one unidentified voice.

Could have been Joe Scarborough. Could have been his sidekick, Mika Mxyzptlk. We couldn’t tell.

Be brave, MSNBC, be brave.

Chris Matthews has officially run out of reasons to criticize Sarah Palin. Now he’s criticizing her handwriting.

We decided to test Matthews’ unusual theory by comparing Palin’s autograph to President Obama’s. Since Matthews would undoubtedly say that Palin is far less intelligent than Obama, that difference should be clearly demonstrated in the “cipherability” of their signatures. Is it?

Just as you can see Russia from Alaska, you can see Chris Matthews’ envy from across the street. As NewsBusters.org reports the story:

“She’s got to be smarter than this,” argued Matthews despite complaining moments later about how the former governor gives autographs: “She doesn’t write the book, and then she scribbles some indecipherable sign on the book as a signature.”

Is Matthews really contending that clarity of signature correlates to intelligence?

sarah-autograph

barack-autograph

Hmmmm. Debatable as to which one has the more legible signature and therefore, according to Matthews, the greater intelligence. But our money’s on Palin. So just for good measure, we decided to compare their hurriedly scrawled initials, too.
barack-palin-initials

We’d have to say it’s another toss-up. And therefore, either Palin is just as intelligent as Obama or Matthews is full of something that smells very, very bad.

But there’s one more signature that needs to be throw into this mix just for comparison purposes – that of Chris Matthews himself. Surely, after his comments about Palin’s signature, that of the MSNBC host must be a masterpiece of legibility. Or maybe not.

chris-matthews-autograph-bw

How’s that clarity equals intelligence theory working for you now, Chris?

There are many examples of Palin’s and Obama’s autograph available on the internet, but we could find just one example of the MSNBC host’s autograph. And that leads us to the inescapable conclusion that Matthews’ real complaint is that thousands of people line up to get Palin’s autograph, but no one ever asks for his.

Envy is such an ugly thing, Chris.

Sounding like a wannabe Mussolini, Matthews bemoans the fact that the trains don’t run on time and that we spend all our money on defense rather than upgrading our rail system.

“You know, I don’t understand why this country is so far behind other countries,” Matthews complained. “If you go, if you’re lucky enough to get to Europe, you know my kids talk about getting through the Chunnel, under the English Channel, in a couple of minutes. These kids studying overseas in their third year. The Europeans seem to have fast trains that go 300 miles and hour and we’re chugging along with Amtrak and Acela and we’re still flying around short distances. First you, Mr. Mayor. You’re on the Amtrak route. Why can’t this federal government use the power of the, the workforce we have out there, put ‘em all to work and build a train system in this country or fast rail so we can – and this sounds so pathetic – catch up to Europe and Japan! Why don’t we do that? Catch up to the other major countries?”

“I hate to sound like a lefty” Matthews said “But the fact is we’re spending all this money on our defense programs – McDonnell-Douglas, Boeing…Why can’t we do what other major powers do? Build a modern society. Instead of fighting all the wars supposedly for everybody else?”

At this point Granholm, apparently mesmerized by the brilliance of Matthews discourse and perhaps experiencing her own leg tingle, exclaimed to Matthews “You should run for office!”

Chris Matthews doesn’t want to sound like a lefty? Sorry, Chris, but that train already left the station.

Ouch! Last week Chris Matthews compared Obama to Jimmy Carter, this week to Neville Chamberlain.

Let’s see, which is worse? Being compared to one of the worst American presidents of the 20th century or being compared to one of the worst British prime ministers of the 20th century?

Let’s see, which is worse? Being compared to one of the worst American presidents of the 20th century or being compared to one of the worst British prime ministers of the 20th century?

We have to think about this one for a minute or two.

OK. That’s long enough. We’ve decided it’s worse to be compared to Jimmy Carter than to Neville Chamberlain because at least the British accent sounds sophisticated, but Jimmy Carter sounds like…well…like Jimmy Carter.

Here’s another example of the left turning on Barack Obama. Chris Matthews is upset. And we like that.

Chris Matthews: Will this long deliberation, Anne Kornblut, you’ve got the tough question here to start with. Whip around here. It took three months to make this decision. Will he look smart and deliberate for having taken all this time, or will the dithering shot still being cast in by people like former Vice President Dick Cheney, is that still going to hurt?
Anne Kornblut: The gamble they’re making is that he’ll look smart and he’ll look like the anti-Bush for having thought about it for so long.
Joe Klein: The anti-Bush part is really important because Bush really needed to do a strategy re-evaluation about Iraq six months in there and he never did.
Chris Matthews: Andrea, will it look good if he takes all this time?
Andrea Kramer: I agree. I think it will look good if he takes his time, if taking his time he comes out with something that adds up. If he doesn’t then people will say you took so long and what did you deliver?
David Ignatius: The long period of analysis, very deliberative, robs this of passion. This is, he is going to be a wartime president now, and he has to sell the country on the idea that our young men and women are going to go there, fight and get killed and I think this is not…
Chris Matthews: So, too much Chamberlain and not enough Churchill.
David Ignatius: Well, too much, too much college professor.

Now we just need to put Barack Obama in one of those fancy top hats that Neville Chamberlain used to wear and the image is complete.

PhotoShop, anyone?

Chris Matthews calls West Point “enemy camp” to Obama. That explains a lot.

Yes, the enemy camp. Home of hate speech like “Duty, Honor, Country” and evil stuff like that. And you wonder why the military doesn’t love the President?

(The Matthews bit takes place in the first two minutes of this video clip.)

Brian Griffin (the talking dog): See, I knew it was just a matter of time before somebody would recognize my genius.
Stewie Griffin: Whoa. Take it easy. You’re getting a bigger head than Chris Matthews.
Chris Matthews: The economy’s in the news today, and Congress is considering a minimum wage increase. Live by satellite to talk about, Sen. Harry Reid in Washington. How about it, Sen. Reid, is this the right move during the worst recession since the 1930s?
Harry Reid: Look, if we’re going to get this economy back on track, we have to get more money in the pockets of hard working…

(Talking over each other so that neither is intelligible)

Chris Matthews: Senator, let me finish. My forehead, my rules. Let’s go to Los Angeles. Big actor, played the father in “That 70s Show,” Kurtwood Smith. How’s it going, Kurtwood?
Kurtwood Smith: Good, thanks for having me.

“Me,” Matthews said to his wife at dinner. “Fox wanted me. Not Olbermann. Not Maddow. Me. I’m relevant. I’m somebody. Even if nobody watches me.”

Chris Matthews turned into Sybil, alternating back and forth between snarling maniac and jilted lover, pathetic loser and delusional winner. Here he virtually begs White House correspondent to give him some good news.

Matthews: But Chuck, let me get back to you again. Is there such a thing as an Obama believer? In other words, is there a set of beliefs he holds which can be shared by other politicians of the Democratic Party?

Todd: You know, it’s funny you say that. I think right now you’re seeing an argument on the left take place where you’re seeing some criticism of the President — “Hey, where’s all the change?” So I think this is all trying — I think they’re all trying to figure this out. The White House seems to be about, and this President seems to be about pragmatism and — you know, trying to get something done, trying to figure out a solution in Afghanistan, trying to compromise and get health care through.

But you’re right, there isn’t this core set of principles that were so easy to say and do — “change you can believe in” in 2008. I think he’s struggling to translate that to policy. We’re seeing it, this whole Organizing for America wing of the DNC is struggling to work correctly. I think they haven’t figured it out.

Best damn thing we’ve seen on MSNBC in years.

Matthews: He’s hung back at a point that’s almost driven us crazy. He has let Harry Reid carry the ball.
Fineman: Well, Chris, one of the things…
Matthews: Is that smart?
Fineman: I think it may turn out to be. I’ve been like you, all over cable TV saying, “How come he isn’t out there pounding away at this? He ought to do it like Ronald Reagan and have four points and pound!”
Matthews: Right, right.
Fineman: That’s not Barack Obama.
Matthews: I know.
Fineman: He is…one of his great qualities, whether you like him or not, is patience. And he’s playing a very patient game here.
Matthews: Howard, is he smarter? Howard, is he smarter than us?
Fineman: Of course, he is. Much smarter!

Yes, Chris Matthews undoubtedly has frequent fantasies of Barack Obama pounding. If you know what we mean.

Of course, Matthews attributes The One’s sinking fortunes to “all the crazy stuff of the summer.” You know, crazy stuff like “the tea parties, the birthers, the nutbags out there.”

Unfortunately, guests Charlie Cook of the Cook Political Report and John Harris of the Politico weren’t so eager to agree with Matthews assessment of the situation. It was their unenviable task to tell Matthews that the pole he cited was an outlier and inconsistent with all the other polls.

For the first time in recent memory, Matthews was almost stunned into silence. Which would have almost made his show watchable.

How long until you start following the latest Obama fashion trend?

The One grew one. What about you?
The One grew one. What about you?

When President Obama made his speech in Cairo last week, people noticed something new, something now, something oh-so-Obama.

We’re referring to the wispy, but stylish ‘stache gracing his upper lip. Admittedly, it wasn’t the manliest mustache and it would have been more at home on a 15-year old boy.

Nevertheless, a new wispy mustache craze is sweeping Washington, DC. Everyone wants one because everyone wants to be just like the Greatest President In History. The literati, the glitterati, the cognoscenti. What about you?

It won’t be long before you’re no one without one.

As you can see, the trend is spreading faster than Swine Flu and it’s a lot less deadly.

Next time Joe Biden puts his foot in his mouth, it will just call attention to the brand new Obama on his upper lip.

Another convert to the Church of the Holy Obama

It would seem there’s good reason that President Obama is referred to as “The One”. In another example of media pundits bravely and objectively speaking truth to power, MSNBC’s hard-hitting analysis of Obama’s Cairo speech began with Hardball’s Chris Matthews:

“I think the President’s speech yesterday was the reason we Americans elected him. It was grand. It was positive. Hopeful…But what I liked about the President’s speech in Cairo was that it showed a complete humility…”

Matthews then turned to Newsweek editor Evan Thomas and blurted out one of his grammatically-tortured questions, “Reagan and World War II and the sense of us as the good guys in the world, how are we doing?”

“…Reagan was all about America and you talked about it,” Newsweek Editor Even Thomas said. “Obama is ‘We are above that now. We’re not just parochial, we’re not just chauvinistic, we’re not just provincial.’ I mean in a way Obama’s standing above the country, above the world, he’s sort of God.”

Chris Matthews was quick to agree that he, too, was a true believer.

Hey, wait a minute. Whatever happened to the “separation of church and state” that liberals are always carrying on about? Oh. Guess it all depends on the church.

Olbermann uses understatement for the first time, admits “I’m the a-hole.”

Just when you were beginning to think Keith Olbermann was completely out of touch with reality, he goes and makes sense.

While interviewing new MSNBC host Ed Schultz, Olbermann pigeonholed all the other role players at the network.

“Alright,” Olbermann said, “you’ve got the conundrum all of us have as this thing gets more and more successful. The show’s got to look like a relative of all the other shows right before it and right after it. But not too much. I mean, Chris is the political inside-baseball guy. Rachel is the affable, charming policy wonk. I’m the a-hole. What are you going to be?”

We don’t really know which is more surprising: Olbermann acknowledging his assholishness or his belief (despite ratings evidence to the contrary) that MSNBC is getting “more and more successful.”

Ari Fleischer treats Chris Matthews like Chris Brown treated Rihanna

Chris Matthews misunderestimated former Bush press secretary Ari Fleisher last night on “Hardball.” When the MSNBC host attacked, Fleischer gave him a lesson in verbal pugalistics.

The “Hardball” host had barely said hello when he went on the attack.

“What brings you back?” Matthews challenged. “Is this the return from Elba? Is this the 100 days of Napoleon’s return from Crawford? What is going on with this network of former Bushies — current Bushies, I should say — singing the old song?”

“Well, Chris,” Fleischer responded coolly, “I’m here because you invited me to be here.”

“Oh, yes,” Matthews stammered. “OK.”

It went downhill from there. Every time Matthews attempted to land a body blow, Fleischer dodged it and delivered a stinging punch of his own. He never backed down.

At one point, Fleischer said, “Chris, do you ever not interrupt your guests, or is that all you’d like to do?” Even Matthews’ off-camera crew cracked up.

At various times in the interview, Fleisher called Matthews “disingenuous” and “shameful,” accused him of twisting people’s words, and said “How dare you?”

Enjoy the video, because we don’t think Matthews will invite Fleischer back on Hardball very soon.

Chris Matthews doesn’t want the Democrat Party to be called the Democrat Party

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JR7MphuhEwcChris Matthews is a very sensitive man. He cares about the feelings of others. Especially when the others are Democrats.

In the middle of Thursday night’s Hardball program, Matthews interrupted California Congressman Darrell Issa’s comments on the administration’s massive budget deficit to complain that Issa had referred to the opposition as “the Democrat Party.”

“I think the Democratic Party calls itself the Democratic Party, not the Democrat Party,” Matthews raged. “Do we have to do this every night? Why do people talk like this? Is this just fighting words? They call themselves the Democratic Party. Let’s just call people what they call themselves and stop the Mickey Mouse here. Save that for the stump.”

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fEVmAbxC14gBased on that faulty logic, if Matthews were discussing rap music, he would refer to African-Americans as “niggas” like so many rap artists do. That would be, as Matthews requested, just calling people what they call themselves.

Matthews might want to re-think this concept.

Ooh-la-la. According to police reports (view PDF), Rush Limbaugh is being stalked by a mysterious blonde named Melanie. She’s 30-40 years old, and drives a new, white sedan.

Wait. It’s a woman? Then it might not be Matthews after all.

According to 911 records, the mysterious blonde attempted to follow Rush’s car through the gates of his Palm Beach estate yesterday. She hightailed it before police arrived.

Rush was cool, calm and collected about the whole thing. “I’ll deal with it,” he said in an email to Jose Lambiet, a columnist and blogger for the Palm Beach Post. “Part of the territory.”

That’s all we know. Ten-four, over and out. (We don’t actually know what that means, but we’ve wanted to say it ever since we were kids and watched Broderick Crawford on that old “Highway Patrol” TV show.)

Does Chris Matthews fantasize Obama is Captain Kirk (and he’s a sexy green alien girl)?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lLQM8NKrHuwChris Matthews revealed a little too much about himself on Wednesday night’s Hardball.

“The Conservative Political Action Conference begins its three day meeting tomorrow in Washington,” Matthews stammered, “and take a look at some of the panels being offered. ‘Al Franken and ACORN: How Liberals Are Destroying the American Election System.’ ‘Will Congress Take Your Guns?’ ‘The True Cost of Global Warming Hysteria.’ If you like Star Trek conventions, you’ll love this baby.”

Sounds to us like Chris may have attended a Star Trek convention or two in his time. Probably in costume. If that’s the case, we have a suggestion for him: Try following Spock’s example and use logic once in a while. It could change your life.

Now would someone please put their phaser on stun and shut this guy up?

MSNBC screws up, reacts to Bobby Jindal by saying, “Oh God”

Someone on MSNBC disparagingly muttered “Oh, God” on the air last night as Governor Bobby Jindal of Louisiana approached the camera to give the Republican response to President Obama’s speech. And we don’t think it was because they worship the ground Jindal walks on.

We’ve never been mistaken for Aristotle, but logic tells us Chris Matthews is probably the culprit, since the loquacious host has now developed the remarkable ability to analyze a speech even before it is given.

At the beginning the evening, before Obama had uttered a word, Matthews declared that his speech was “Churchillian.” So it seems only logical that he would bookend the night by panning Jindal’s response in advance.

What caused the outburst? Some observers think the “Oh, God” comment may have slipped out during an unguarded moment of ecstasy while the obviously-smitten Matthews was imagining his man love for the president.

Either that or Keith Olbermann said it when he saw the object of his affection in a mirror.

Obama press secretary misses mood of country, disses Rick Santelli

The Obama administration has been hiring journalists left and right. But Rick Santelli probably shouldn’t bother sending over his resume.

At a White House press conference today, Obama press secretary Robert Gibbs was asked for the president’s reaction to Santelli’s outburst on the floor of the Chicago commodities exchange yesterday. Two things stood out about his answer.

First he said everyone at the White House got a good laugh out of it.

Then he concluded his longer remarks by saying, “I’m sure Mr. Santelli doesn’t know what he’s talking about.”

Every time Obama announces more of his “stimulus” program, the stock market plunges anew, announcing rather clearly that Wall Street thinks it’s Mr. Obama who doesn’t know what he’s talking about.

Rush Limbaugh gave Chris Matthews incurable hydrophobia

Chris Matthews is foaming at the mouth again, driven to a wild-eyed frenzy by Rush Limbaugh. Matthews barraged a recent Republican Hardball guest with these questions about the conservative talk titan:

“Would you live in a country where he wrote the Constitution?”

“Would you live in a country where he wrote our rights? Listed our rights? Where he listed our rights. Would you live, would you live in that country?”

“Is he a sacred cow?”

“Say something, say something wrong, say something nasty about Rush Limbaugh!”

The Center for Disease Control is expected to issue the following statement: Future Hardball guests are advised to get precautionary rabies shots before approaching Chris Matthews.

Chris Matthews could just scratch Obama’s eyes out

Chris Matthews has done everything but carve “C.M. loves B.H.O.” on a tree. Yet the object of his affections repeatedly mentions Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity, but ignores the MSBNC host.

‘You can’t just listen to Rush Limbaugh,” Obama said, “and get things done.”

“With respect to Sean Hannity,” Obama later said, “I didn’t know that he had invited me for a beer. But you know, I will take that under advisement. Generally, his opinion of me does not seem to be very high, but I’m always good for a beer.”

“This bothers me,” Matthews fumed. “What’s the president giving so many shout-outs to conservative radio talk-show hosts? All he talks about is Limbaugh and Sean Hannity…I’m envious. Is this the only way you get this guy’s attention, is to whack him?”

As last week’s Monday night’s press conference demonstrated, Obama likes to talk. A lot. We suspect he knows he’d never get a word in edgewise with the loquacious Matthews.

Fred Astaire and Chris Matthews
Fred Astaire and Chris Matthews

Let us be the first to say it: Come out of the closet, Chris Matthews.

Matthews on-going Obama-erotic comments get stranger and stranger on a nightly basis. Now the host of MSNBC’s Hardball has compared Barack Obama to suave 1940’s dancer and heartthrob Fred Astaire.

“Yeah, he’s Fred Astaire out there,” Matthews enthused. “He is light-hearted, I mean he’s light, he still moves around with incredible alacrity.”

For god’s sake, Chris, this charade you’re living isn’t good for anyone. Just put on a nice, frilly gown and ask Obama for the next dance. Get it over with.
